What will be the most memorable part of your tour is the drama that existed in the times peppered nicely with the history. The question comes first to lure you in, then the history and then the intriguing twist at the end to leave you prompts in your head to easily recall the history. After 6 years since my original walking tour, I took my wife on both the Colonial and Civil War walking tours in Williamsburg. We had Trish for both tours, whose knowledge of the local history and insights had only improved since my first visit. We really enjoyed both tours and might go again for her Christmas tour. We took the colonial tour at 10:00 am on a Monday morning to get my wife the "lay of the land" in Williamsburg. She enjoyed the historic information about many of the buildings on her your. Trish was able to ask questions we and the others in the tour had. Prior to visiting a local museum, I had no idea that Williamsburg was involved in the civil war. Trish explained the city's role in the Peninsula Campaign. She also told us stories that are apparently not very well known outside the local history community. Don't waste your time in any other tours in Williamsburg and just schedule one with Trish. read more

We had our tour on 3/8/2019 with Trish & did a 1.5 hour historical walking tour. Trish was a wonder with so much knowledge & fun anecdotes of the area! She took the time to find out what we were interested in, & what we already knew, & built upon her tour to truly make it One-of-a-Kind! We had a 9 YO daughter who loves American Girl & the Felicity story & Trish even incorporated parts of Felicity to engage with our daughter, which only caused my daughter's ho hum face to light up with excitement! Trish does talk fast, so have your caffeinated game face on ready to learn as she pours the facts in. She even mentions a story her Indian relations told of Pocahontas that is not in the history books, which I won't give away here so you'll have to take her tour. By the way, we signed up for the tour VERY last minute the night before. I'm sure this wasn't ideal for WWT planning purposes, but she was ready & willing to host us the following morning. The WALK ABOUT HISTORY TOUR with Trish was an excellent choice as first time visitors. Trish provided us with an overview of Colonial Williamsburg in about two hours or so as we walked the historic city center. A wealth of information, she made sure to cover the history of the region, including that of the European Colonists and Native American inhabitants. Her stories about historical figures made Colonial Williamsburg come alive. (At first, I thought CW would be Disneyland-like, but surprisingly, it wasn't. It truly is a "living museum".) We especially appreciated her enthusiasm, passion and willingness to be a resource, which is invaluable to me as an history teacher. Future reference: Due to the uncomfortably hot weather, I think we'll visit with the grandchild during the holidays or perhaps in the spring next time. Additionally, if Trish is available for private tours, I think we will inquire about this. She really is engaging. read more

On a beautiful fall day my wife and I took this tour and we were fortunate to be the only ones during the 12:30 slot. We were pleasantly greeted by Trish who was our tour guide. If you are an American History enthusiast Trish is someone to have a good conversation. HIGHLY RECOMMEND We took the night ghost walking tour with 2 adults and 2 boys aged 13. It was fantastic. We didn't have time to do a big historical tour. This was our only tour we had time for while visiting Williamsburg. Our guide new this and gave us so much history information. The kids weren't bored because of all the ghostly tails. I think they were all true but my husband remains a skeptic. The tour is prompt and last about 1-1/2 hours. If going to Williamsburg this a must do. FUN FOR ALL! read more

A friend and I did the historical walking tour on our first full day there over Memorial Day weekend. Between the two of us we have done many tours to get ourselves acclimated when visiting a new city/area and we both agreed this one of our best ever! I wish I was positive about our guides name (I believe it was Michael?). He was absolutely amazing. He managed to cater slightly to the interests of all 3 groups of people on the tour while still managing to share loads of historical facts and keep us out of the hot sun! I requested a private tour for seven which focused exclusively on the African American history and life in Colonial Williamsburg. Was a little concerned about the presentation because the group included a professor of African and African American history and participants who are pretty knowledgeable about black history. Needless to say, the concern was unnecessary. Our guide, Trish, proved to have done her homework and then some. She was more than prepared to not only give the standard stories of who lived where and their duties as slaves or free people of color, she also had the background stories of who but the what and where and how the black population came to be in Williamsburg. She even touched on the history of West Africa and, according to the professor, did an admirable job. Did I mention she was also quite personable? I would certainly recommend this tour--especially if you are not familiar with this aspect of Colonial Williamsburg. It is time visitors became aware that the city would not have been built or functioned without its black population. read more
