Very poor service. Sign was not clear about happy hour, tried to order an old fashion, which was simple syrup and bitters. Even offered to pay for an extra shot of Buffalo Trace, which was ignored. My husband and I went here for dinner based on the menu they had online. The actual menu they are serving is different and actually provided by the restaurant next door - a change perhaps due to Covid. The experience was fine but had we known of the actual menu before driving here and sitting down we probably would have gone elsewhere. My food was fine. I got a pasta and salad, and my husband got a stromboli. Servings were enormous - I was hungry and probably only managed to get through a quarter of my dish, if that. I suppose the proximity to the college means lots of university folks coming in looking for good deals on food. I didn't find this place particularly memorable, but if this is a convenient location to you and you're just looking for some basic fare then this hits the spot. read more

I visited with a group of six on a Saturday night and it was not busy at all. I started with the rockfish tenders, which were tasty. For my entree I had a burger with blue cheese and bacon. Unfortunately, I can't recall the name of the burger; it was tasty yet average. I also had half of a Stockyard burger, which had coleslaw and brisket. I definitely enjoyed the Stockyard more than the other burger. The cafe has a good selection of beers. Staff is friendly and attentive. Great atmosphere walking in, although slow on a Sunday evening, the ambience of the place is perfect for a University hot spot. Brick walls, dark wood, Edison light fixtures and the bar's about 60 feet long with their liquor illuminated from below. Perfect! I tried their Flying Dog fruit punch sour beer which was so refreshing after driving around the Colonial Parkway and exploring the historic trifecta Williamsburg- Yorktown and Jamestown area. Paired well with Italian Chicken Philly and the Stromboli we shared. Good tunes playing plus sports on multiple TV's and Star Wars on another. Wow! It had been quite a while since we'd stopped into the Greenleaf. There have been so many new places in recent years but feeling nostalgic, we decided to stop by and were shocked to see the amazing transformation from grungy college bar to classy brew pub! One of our favorite things of the past, was the extensive tap selection. Now, there are even more to choose from including many local brews from Aleworks and VBC. Service was excellent and portion sizes were large. We were impressed by the large selection of loaded fries (we chose the steak version) and many options for burger and sandwiches (we had the Reuben). Both items were large enough to share and still leave a bit behind. Note - Greenleaf has many TV monitors so is a great place to watch a sporting event. read more

Ok so I don't normally give 5 stars, not easily anyway. My first time, and everything was excellent. Greeted by Courtney, seated by Courtney and then waited on by Courtney. She did an amazing job. Her service skills are "point on", and her recommendations were true to form. We started with Bloody Mary's and they were made with a local mix, no stolid but that's OK. Absolute worked in a pinch. We ordered the saganaki and fried pickles. Both were stellar, and the pita for saganaki was very fresh. I ordered the Texas Reuben it came with fries and I have to say, one of the best Reuben's I've had recently. Best in Williamsburg by far. The wife and kid split the wedge salad with shrimp, it was huge and the shrimp were nice size shrimp and there were at least 8 shrimp total. We visited Green Pauls Deli on 12/26/2023 for lunch. It was a disappointing experience. We grabbed a menu, found a table, decided what we wanted and then went to the cash register to order and pay. We ordered three items that arrived at different times after waiting a considerable amount of time. Food quality was basic and the service level was poor for a restaurant. They need to revamp the venue and hire more staff. read more

This renovation of the Green Leafe really upped its atmosphere. All the bartenders are dressed in classy vest ensembles, and the bar itself looks beautiful. It doesn't have the sports bar feel like College Delly, Paul's, or Brickhouse has. The food itself is great for a college students. Cheap and huge portions especially when you've already had a couple of drinks. My 3 friends and I had the Greek fries. Although I am a sucker for pickled and salty food, my friends are not. There's fresh avocados, a loooot of sour cream, tomatoes, a loooot of cheese, and the best part - FRIES. The quality of the food was above average for 11pm on a Friday night. Drink prices are average, so definitely a good place to go if you're looking to spend only a little. read more

Wow, this is one AMAZING place! We are from Indy and are on a visit to move my sister to Harrisonburg. Decided to make a day trip to Williamsburg and found this amazing place on Yelp. We are SO impressed. Beautiful inside, extremely friendly staff, great specials and prices. The food.... wow the food was INCREDIBLE!!!! We had the pretzel basket, my sister had Mac n cheese and my mom and I split the Kitty Hawk burger which was on special- came with TONS of yummy fries, perfect meal to split. I was apprehensive about this new and improved Leafe because I loved the old dive bar Leafe from my student days, but I was pleasantly surprised! The food we had was delicious, and very reasonably priced given the massive portions. My wife and I thought we'd split the wings, fried pickles, poutine, and a salad, and that was WAY too much (the poutine came out in a pie plate!), so be warned. That said, It was all very good. The poutine came loaded with roasted lamb and gravy and tons of cheese, and the buffalo wings were well-sauced and still crispy, with plenty of juicy meat on them. The drink menu is extensive. The Leafe used to be known for its huge selection of beers, but that had sort of fallen away, so it's nice to see them going back in that direction. Plenty of interesting, off-the-beaten path beers, like the nice tart Belgian fruit beer I had. Service was good, all the staff were very friendly and attentive. I will say that we got there around 8:15 in a weekday just before Christmas, so it wasn't very busy. I'd expect it to be more packed if you're there later at night, especially when students are in town. It was a little jarring at first to see the new decor, but I think they did a great job keeping the spirit of the old Green Leafe and updating it. There's still plenty of wood and brick and stained glass, but now the bar is better lit and the floor is no longer sticky! All told, I'm looking forward to coming back next time I visit Williamsburg! Highly recommended if you're looking for a nice place near campus or CW to get a beer and bite to eat. read more

Went here yesterday with a group of friends - it was highly recommended to us by some W&M alumni. While the bartender who waited on us was very nice and attentive, he also wiped his nose with his fingers multiple times while waiting on us and while at the bar, which is fine except that I did not see him wash his hands before grabbing several glasses by putting his fingers into the glasses to hold them and then immediately filling them with ice water for someone. He sounded like he may be sick, and that combined with the disregard for food safety ruined the trip for me. We found this cafe by asking a local where to eat lunch away from the tourist area....and we are so glad we did! I ordered the Green Leafe Burrito and my companion ordered the flatbread spinach pizza. When my dish arrived, I was surprised by the amount of food! The burrito was filled with Cajun shrimp, chicken, avocado, pico, cheese, and rice and was also topped with 3 shrimp. It was DELICIOUS! My companion loved her pizza as well. Service was perfect. Best bar in Williamsburg, and one of my favorites of all time, anywhere. It's just the kind of bar I prefer the most: dim, dark wood, a huge selection of beers, incredibly casual, very laid-back. None of this bass-beating, disco-ball-dropping, meat-market bar scenes typical in college towns. When you're drinking at the Leafe, you feel like you're in a bar surrounded by family and friends (and chances are, if you're in school at W&M, you will know just about everyone in there, packed wall-to-wall Thursday - Sunday nights). The beer selection is tops, and I love the fact that they have a nice variety of local beers (although I always laugh out loud when I see Bud listed as local, because of the Busch plant nearby. Ha, I'm chuckling even now). I also love the fact that there is a large selection of microbrews, and definitely appreciated it even as an undergrad all these many years ago -- just because I'm in college it doesn't mean I want to drink Icehouse and Beast, thanks. The Leafe appeals to your more discriminating side, and I like that. The food is actually really good for bar food, too. It definitely won't be receiving Michelin stars any time soon, but I actually liked grabbing dinner there every now and then as a student. And can we talk about the soft pretzel appetizer? This ain't your average swing-on-the-rotating-rack-for-6-months at 7-11 crap: this is a soft, chewy piece of heaven with a spicy, sweet dipping mustard. Get in my bell-eh! Like I said, in the evenings (especially Thursday - Sunday) the place is definitely an overcrowded college bar if you show up any time after 9 or 10 o'clock. So if that's not your thing, go a bit earlier when the service is more attentive and the place is a bit quieter...especially on Leafe's famous Sunday Mug Night, when the college students show up with their brightly colored plastic beer steins for discounted prices on beer. Service was prompt and friendly. I always enjoy the atmosphere here. Tonight I ordered the small plates fried oysters with a chateau st. Michele reisling. The wine and oysters were yummy. The fries (a mound) were limp and soggy and the Cole slaw tasted like mayonnaise with shredded cabbage. I have spent quite a bit of time at this bar during work trips to the burg. It is a great bar with really good food and an interesting and extensive tap list. They also have a good selection of liquors, liqueurs and mixers. Their fish and chips and their fish BLT are the only food items I can vouch for, but they are both seriously good. The fish and chips platter is an unconquerable mountain of food. Their prices for pitchers are quite reasonable and they often have a pretty generous special going on. Tony and I, along with friends went to the Green Leafe Cafe after spending time in Historic Williamsburg. It was a beautiful day but we were ready to sit down and enjoy a drink or two with snacks. We sat at the bar. It took Tony at least 15 minutes to go through the long list of beers (64 draft and 150 bottled) before deciding on a flight of beers - yes, he's a beer snob - or rather, a beer connoisseur. Carol enjoyed the woodpecker cider, Glenn the St George IPA, and I had a glass of wine (half price specials). I rarely drink beer unless I'm sitting at a large table with Maryland steamed crabs in front of me. We shared the artichoke, spinach, and crab dip, which was served in a hearty brown bread - just to tie us over before dinner. It was excellent. I love it when a dip is served in a bread bowl. For a 33 year old in a college town for work... I wouldn't expect anything less than ending up at a college bar. The vibe is pretty chill but you have to know you are walking into a place where the oldest person is probably you. The drinks weren't over-priced and the bartenders were cool and seem to know the people that come in there. They do have a menu, but I was there for drinks. Would love to go back and try though. Based on my bar experience, the only reason this place didn't get a 5 is bc the bathroom could use a reno... They just renovated the restaurant/bar so maybe that will be next.
