I've been coming to SummerWind Winery for over three years and am proud to be a wine club member. What keeps me coming back isn't just the wine (although the Verdant is my absolute favorite!)--it's the people. The owners are incredibly involved and take the time to get to know their guests. They're welcoming, laid-back, and the kind of people you can laugh and joke around with. Over the years, I've gotten to know many of the regulars by name, and SummerWind truly feels more like a community than a winery. My girlfriends and I never miss bingo night. We love the atmosphere, the people, and spending the evening enjoying great food and wine together. The prizes are fun too--if you're lucky enough to win! Whether it's a glass of wine, food, or the infamous carafe of sangria, it always adds to the excitement. The food is excellent, especially the fig and goat cheese board. Absolutely loved this place!!!! I will definitely go back and have already told several friends. It was only an hour drive from Virginia Beach. Or less. Tables in and outside. The AC felt great. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We sat outside because we thought we might be too loud inside. The tables do have umbrellas for shade. Water is easily accessible. I was surprised at the wines. I normally am not a fan of a lot of VA wines but these were good. I even bought a bottle. The food....outstanding!!! We got the Little Italy board which was plenty for the 4 of us. And also the Pistachio, Honey and Fig Goat Cheese board. Delicious!! And I got some ideas for my next board. They even have options for those non wine drinkers like Sly Clyde Cider. Love that it is local. They have a Wine Club and I got the info but I wish I lived closer. Prices were what you would expect to pay at a winery. But definitely worth it for the experience. My first-ever winery visit was to Summer Wind Winery, and it was everything I hoped it would be. I've always wanted to do something like this, and when my relatives came to town looking for something chill but vibey, my Uncle Daryl found the perfect spot. Even the ride there set the tone it was scenic & peaceful, and full of wide-open fields that felt like a refreshing change. It was the kind of drive that makes you slow down and just enjoy the moment. Once we arrived, the winery itself was stunning bold, beautiful. The wine selection was impressive, and I loved getting to explore different flavors. I figured out which wines I enjoy most, which ones aren't for me, and felt like I had a truly immersive first-time tasting experience. The staff at Summer Wind were amazing knowledgeable, friendly, and patient in answering my questions. Although I didn't get to order food this time, I saw plates coming out of the kitchen that looked absolutely delicious, so that's definitely on my list for next visit. I enjoyed myself so much that I'd love to make this a yearly tradition around this time of year. We visited SWV on a Saturday afternoon. The vineyard has beautiful views. Upon arrival, we were cheerfully welcomed by the staff and presented with flight options. The pear sangria was refreshing. SWV offers a variety of food options which SWV freshly prepares upon ordering. SWV has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio is adorned with colorful umbrellas, tables and chairs with spectacular nature views. The indoor seating is adjacent to the tasting room and well air conditioned. We enjoyed the wine & food at SWV and recommend that you visit SWV for an enjoyable wine tasting experience. read more

What a cute little winery! Headed here on a misty Saturday and can't wait to go on a sunny day to hang out on their large patio or greasy area overlooking the pond! Inside is quaint with a large enclosed porch with seating for about 20. Then the wine bar area has a table for about 8 and a few chairs. The staff was friendly and helpful with first timers and I ended up doing a flight-5 samples for $16-very reasonable. I enjoyed trying a variety of their wines. Husband enjoys glass, which you can buy by either a smaller pour or a large pour. We had already eaten but their food menu looked good and look forward to going back to try some of those. Very charming family owned business! My employees greeted us warmly and continued to display the same attentiveness throughout our dine in. We had their blackberry pear sangria and it was delicious! Stopped at this winery while exploring Smithfield. It's small and quaint, gives a county back yard vibes. There are a few tabla inside, but a sprawling space with benches and stool outside in the lawn. There was live music, and they were dog-friendly - both are a huge plus in my book! We got one white/rose wine tasting and one red wine tasting - they were ok. But their ginger pear sangria was very tasty. We also tried their fig, pistachio, honey goat cheese with baguette, which was amazing! The season flatbread was just meh. All the staff were super friendly and helpful! My gal friends and I had a really lovely time here. We arrived shortly after they opened at noon on a Saturday. We were given menus and got to picking our wines. They have 10 or so wines total and you can inexpensively get a 5-flight of 2oz pours. Staff was great throughout and brought up napkins, little plates, serving spoons, and set up our tabs easily. It was super easy to order and pay and add stuff. The food was amazing!! The house turned winery is pretty and everything was clean and organized. There's only 1 bathroom, so you might have a wait on a busy day. The gingerbread cookie pretzels were so good. The pretzels come out warm and taste really good with the cookie bits and icing drizzle. Goes with a couple of their sweet wines. The not your aunt's fruitcake brie platter was the most interesting as it was covered in figs and dates and such with drizzle all over. It tasted amazing with red wines and good alone. The smoked salmon platter was lighter than I expected. The salmon was served cool and wasn't that Smokey. While I personally didn't like the onions, the rest all went together well. It paired ok with the reds. The burrata winter pear platter was a nice dessert, though the caramel quickly became glue. It was hard to scoop onto anything and was very sweet with the soft pears. It goes with the sweet white and the rose. I made my own charcuterie with salami, olives, sun dried tomatoes, and pimento cheese. This was SO good with the wine! They evidently recently spiced up the pimento and the oil dressing was bit spicy too. I thought the salami was a little fatty, I would have preferred a hard salami. The olives had the pits in them. read more

I give all the stars to the staff and the outdoor venue. It is just so relaxing and beautiful to be outdoor in the open backyard near the water. I also love the à la carte style cheeseboard that you choose your own. Wine enthusiast alert tho, come with friends and good mood, please have no expectation for wine. I tasted all 10 and will pay less than a penny for any bottle. I am being very positive here and try to have no complaint. Virginia wine has decades ahead to go to improve its taste and quality, especially reds. I still love this place for a weekend. read more

I have been coming here somewhat regularly for the past few months. (Once a month or once every other month) and usually my service is great because I come on a Friday when it's not busy. Came in today, ordered my glass of wine and as I'm heading outside with my beverage, an older lady (not sure if it was the owner), asked me if I was by myself, so I said yes. She said, make sure to sit at a smaller table. And I was like ummm ok. As a paying customer, I feel as though I can sit wherever I'm comfortable. It wasn't until later that I overheard they were expecting a party. So that made sense. However as just myself, I wasn't planning on taking up a large amount of space all afternoon. Her comment felt cold and unwelcoming. The wine here is great. I love to get either a flight or just have a glass of my favorite. If you're looking for super sweet wines, this isn't the place. But the wines are tasty, and just what I'm looking for in a dry white or red wine. I will continue to come here as I like the atmosphere but if I experience another cold interaction, I may have to find another local spot, which is sad because I do like to support the local businesses around here. Tried this place today, very nice location. Staff friendly and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. We tried a couple of the flatbreads and they are excellent. I tried the sangria and it was a little too sweet for my taste but still refreshing. My only recommendation is to get rid of the plastic plates, cutlery, and have some salt/pepper on tables. Trying to cut flatbread or other food with cheap plastic cutlery is difficult. But I will be back read more

The wines were nice. They had a band playing which was nice. However the service needs lots of work. They don't have any system to get ordered food or beverages to the correct tables. We ordered a charcuterie tray which took over an hour to get. The dates were awesome but i cant see B going back till they improve the service. The sangria was unusual and not to my taste. The wine and food are absolutely delicious, the staff members are kind and friendly, and the location is beautiful. More recently, we had our wedding at their winery and it was such a wonderful experience. Kim made this wedding planning experience smooth and seamless and the wedding night was absolutely STUNNING.
