Very fun place to go to! They had live music and good drinks and you can bring your own food :)

I find myself hella spoiled by this gin...perfectly crafted and the service is impeccable. The venue itself is a very small "hole in the wall" style, but inside is such a gem. You won't be disappointed. No food, just great drinks w excellent flavor combos.

Gorgeous venue in Scott's addition. Tried the espresso martini (4 stars, A+) and bought a new chocolate spirit to bring home. (Amazing!) Service was wonderful- they answered all of my questions. They said they host book clubs and small events.

Still love this place! Finally did a tour, and that was really cool to learn more about the business and how they process their inventory. Also -- Rain is the best bartender!

Virago is an awesome distillery. I first learned about Virago after receiving a bottle of their Ruby Port Cask finished Rum as a gift. I had high expectations after trying some of their product at home and their tasting room didn't disappoint. Their seasonal menu had fun plays on classic cocktails that highlighted their spirits. Some of my personal favorites were the Hot Shot (which was especially great as it was a cold day) and Madhu Martinez. Be sure to pair your cocktail with a spirit flight so that you can try some of their unique and delicious gins and rums. My personal favorite standalone spirit was their Hibiscus Gin which really highlighted the floral/fruity notes of the Hibiscus. I can only imagine it would go well in a Collins style cocktail.

Came here for a book club night with The Richmond Experience and loved it! They specialize in gins and rums. ***LOCATION*** It's near Hardywood and Richmond SPCA. The outside feels a bit warehouse-y, but don't let this dissuade you from coming in. The inside is so aesthetically pleasing and stunning! ***EXPERIENCE*** I need to take a moment to tell you how beautiful the walls are. Powerful and heroic women are painted on them. (Which matches their name/theme as a whole) The colors are so calming and stunning. Whoever was in charge of interior design understood the assignment! The space is smaller, but comfortably fits about 40 people. We had a smaller menu for our evening, but I loved my piña colada. The highlight of the drink was the decently sized pineapple wedge. I loved the coconut flakes in the drink too. A very tasty and refreshing drink. ***PRICE*** With tip I paid about $17 for my drink. ***BATHROOM*** There are two single bathrooms here. They are very clean and match the stylish theme of the main room. ***CONCLUSION*** I'm looking forward to returning to do a tour of the space and try more of their tasty drinks!

Let's start with locating the place. Signage is minimal so look carefully. The tasting room is cute with a variety of seating choices from the bar to couches to a semi outdoor area. Food is limited but "carby". Always good when drinking. The spirits are an interesting mix. They do several gins and some liqueurs. They aren't bad. Their coffee liqueur is particularly good and low ABV if that's what you are looking for. My major issue with the place was the service. The staff seemed more interested in the iPad than us. Generally when I go to a distillery or winery for a tasting I would like the staff to tell me about what I'm drinking. What makes it special and why I should drink their specific version of whatever. It felt as if we were disrupting her every time we had a question. Not a bad place but they need more attentive staff.

Finally tried Virago for Thursday evening drinks! This place is unique in that it feels quaint and fun but relaxed like a brewery. It's a little hidden and off the beaten path but worth tracking down! The decor is so fun and all the staff were very kind. There is a variety of seating options including lounge seating, bar seating, high top and low top tables for 2 or 4, and a large table to seat a big group. I got the espresso rumtini which was a fun take on an espresso martini and the orange complemented nicely! The drink was $14 which is a more than I prefer to spend for drinks but nice for the overall experience of the place.

Love Virago Spirits! Both the spirts they make and their tasting room. This is a family owned business and you feel welcomed the moment you step in their cozy tasting room. Comfy chairs, bar or table seating and both inside and patio options. The cocktail menu changes seasonally which is a nice touch and I love the beautiful and unique glassware. They make several rums, modern gin and an assortment of limited release liquors like coffee, cherry and chocolate. My favorites are the Four Port Rum and Modern Gin. The Gin is infused with oolong tea givining it an unique flavor profiles and smooth finish

We loved our time here. We were dragged here by family and I'm so glad. They have seasonal drinks that are great, but try the different rums. I'm not much of a shot person, but this is a sipping situation. I found I loved the Rum finished in Cognac Casks. Amazing. In fact, I bought the bottle for a very decent price and it's One of the best cask rums I have ever had. Give them a try if you like Rum!!

Yes yes yes! Thank you!! Fantastic experience here. Ayla took excellent care of us. She is very knowledgeable about all spirits and made great recommendations. She even created a mocktail for my friend. My mom loved her gin drink, called "Snap Me Out of It". It was topped with a snap pea and very refreshing. We also tried "Girl in Red", which was a sweeter gin drink with rhubarb. My mom also had the Virginia Vesper and enjoyed it. I ordered the "Gold Room", which I can honestly say is my favorite drink I have ever had. It is a rum drink with many amazing ingredients, such as saffron, mango, honey and cardamom. This place is very charming inside, with colorful, fun, plush furniture. There is also an outside patio too, that is spacious and relaxed. Excellent vibe and service here. If I lived in Richmond, I would be a regular here. I highly recommend coming here.

I can't believe it took me so long to visit Virago. What a lovely place! Their gin cocktails are top notch. I didn't try their rum cocktails, but I will next time. The atmosphere inside is so warm and welcoming, and the servers were friendly and helpful as well. I ordered the Wild At Heart as my first cocktail. It was fruity and soft and so well crafted. For my second, I teetered between the Coco Verde (a friend loved it) and the Clover Club. I chose the latter, and while it was okay, I definitely preferred the first cocktail more. Virago is such a great place to spend a couple hours with friends. It's spaced out well, not too big, and seemed very clean also. All good things!

My only complaint is that it could have used a little more seasoning or even just a touch of extra salt to really make the flavors pop. There was parking available, but if you come late, you may have difficulty finding a spot. We entered the building and proceeded to the counter to check out what they offered. The staff were pleasant and patient in explaining the various wines and other beverages they offered. The ambiance was chill, as we had visited on a Saturday which also included a food truck onsite and live music. We settled on the nine-sample tasting which was only $20, a great deal in our opinion. It consisted of 3 whites, 1 rose, 4 reds, and one tasting at the end that we could choose the flavor: raspberry or peach; some chose raspberry some peach. There was plenty of seating inside and outside. There was an outdoor covering, in the event of inclement weather, which also housed a fire hearth, good for a fire roaring chilly night of wine tasting. There were also outside open seating with tables. We also noted that folks were bringing their own chairs, which was a good move given that the crowd grew the longer we were there. Our tasting was nice: we were given a metal tray that held our tastings with a paper under that identified each wine and also given a paper with a description of the notes of each wine. It was mix of dry and sweet red and white blends, which was good. We all had a favorite with one clear winner: the last peach wine of the tasting! You could also purchase wine by the glass, bottle, or to go, in addition to wine slushes. They also had snacks such as cheese, crackers, dried meats, perfect for making your own charcuterie board to nibble on with your wine. There were also folks who brought their own snacks. The food truck on site was Cousin's Main Lobster specializing in all things lobster. They had the traditional lobster roll, lobster grilled cheese, lobster quesadilla , lobster tacos, lobster bisque, etc. We ordered the traditional lobster roll with mayo (they also had one with garlic butter and one with Parmesan), lobster quesadilla, lobster tacos, and shrimp tacos. The food was ok, nothing stood out overall. The seafood was fresh and did lack seasoning, but overall, good. The winery also had local artisan items for sale such as jewelry, t-shirts, wine glasses, throw pillows, etc. We also saw that this was a family and dog-friendly winery as there were plenty of both there. The winery overlooked a lake, which was picture perfect. There was a duo playing music under an outside pavilion stage. All in all, a great afternoon sipping wine with friends and family.
