Every time I move somewhere all I can do is hope for the best in terms of bottle shops. Namely, that the owner(s) is actually knowledgeable on craft beer, so that they can consistently order good stuff. I have to say, this place truly knows what it's doing. Since moving here there have been all kinds of crazy top-tier drops: Cantillon, rarer 3F's, Fidens, Trillium, in addition to ongoing deliveries of highly rated beers (you're practically guaranteed to find a handful of beers rated 4.2+ on Untappd any time you walk in here). There's a good mix of local and non-local beers as well. I find it can be detrimental to focus TOO much on local beer. I also think they've nailed the size, both in terms of inventory and physical space, because product seems to move at an ideal pace. I've rarely come across too-old beer, which happens quite often in many beer shops. This is THE place to get beer in the area. read more

The only downside to me was that their build your own six pack area was pretty weak when I visited. I would have liked to pick up a few different VA beers instead of a 6-pack of one kind. I was in an enormous funk when I stepped into Corks & Kegs one night. I thought my time in Richmond was ending prematurely, and I was filled with all the emotions. But I had beer errands to run before a visit to my home state, so I forced myself to walk in and attempt to create a mixed 6-pack. Instead, I just stared at the display listlessly. At that point, one of the managers found me and took over the 6-pack formation. I then asked about good local sours and he picked up a few outstanding bottles without much direction. [One of which I immediately opened upon arriving home to numb my brain.] While paying, I blurted out my life story and he patiently listened and was just all around really empathetic! [Thank you!] Good news: My life sorted itself, I'm now a permanent Virginia resident, and I wouldn't hesitate to return to Corks & Kegs for my beer needs in the future. This is my "go to" wine and beer stop if I'm bringing a hostess gift to a dinner party! The wine selection is moderate so you won't be overwhelmed. They also conveniently sell nifty wine bags that are priced right, I bought 3 cute gift sacks! There is a fair representation of imported wines from various countries. I bought a 2016 Shiraz from Riebeek Cellars from Swartland/South Africa and I can't wait to try it! It boasts a smoky, spicy flavor with a hint of fruit so I'm firing up the grill and cracking this baby open! I also selected a Portuguese red table wine, Terras D'el Rei from the Alentejano region that is promising! The man at the counter was helpful while I perused the wines, offering tips and suggestions. To round out my choices, I got a couple of rosés (one for me and one for a gift), a Chardonnay and a Pinot Grigio. Check out the sale rack! You can find some great wines at bargain prices! I also was in the market for some pony beers, I like the Coronitas or the 7 oz. Rolling Rocks (I know, not a beer connoisseur) but they didn't carry them. Bummer. They did however have a great selection of craft beer, local and otherwise, that my hubby loved! He loves trying all kinds of brews, although he's a Guinness man foremost. I was referred to this place as having a great variety of craft beers and they did not disappoint. It is not that hard to find, it is in a small shopping plaza near Publix. Upon walking in they have a huge selection of beers by the 4 and six pack as well as a big variety of wines. They also sell some cigars as well. The staff is very helpful. I asked the staff to recommend 4-5 New England IPAs and they immediately recommended some and even some that they had just tried recently. They have a cooler section and beers on the shelf as well. Prices are pretty normal for craft beers and I like supporting a local business. read more

Hubs & I happened upon C&K a few years back on a trip through VA. We're nothing if we're not very big craft beer fans so we did our research & found this gem. We've been stopping ever since. They have an absolutely wonderful selection of great craft beers, as well as some incredible local beers. The staff is very helpful (hey, they like good beer too!) & gave us some awesome recomendations. My favorite locals are Blue Mountain Dark Hollow (found 2 types there), Three Notch'd Brewing Killer Angel, & Commonwealth's Big Papi. Absolutely excellent beers not available by me. I have been into Corks and Kegs a few times in the past and it's time to write them a review! They are located in a strip mall right off Three Chopt Rd. They have plenty of parking and are very convenient. They have a huge selection of craft beers, ciders and wine. In fact, they proclaim they have 1000's of unique bottles and I believe them!! I can get stuff here that I can't buy anywhere else in Richmond! So what was so special about this visit? Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout just released their 2018 vintage and Corks and Kegs was hosting a vertical tasting!!!!!! What is a vertical tasting? It's when you try the same beer but from different years in ascending order. In one sitting, we sampled KBS from 2014 up through 2018. It was magical! 5 years of beers! You could tell the differences that come with aging the beer so well. 2014 was so mellow and less acidic. Very interesting and cool. And huge shout out to the C&K staff!!! Joey the owner has turned this place into the ideal bottle shop -- he's always hustling to secure beers that would have been unheard of in RVA just a year ago -- Foam, Bissell Bro's, Equilibrium, Frost, Jackie Os (even the BA stuff) and tired hands. The whole staff knows how to make personalized recommendations, plus there are dogs for days -- my kids always ask to go to "the daddy juice store" so they can pet some pups and snag a lollipop in the process. When I first moved to Richmond a while back, one of my first goals was to find a good beer store. As luck would have it, the day I closed on my house, I just happened to drive by Corks & Kegs. I stopped in and it was exactly what I was looking for. Richmond is a great beer city, and as a beer store, Corks & Kegs is about as good as it gets. It has a tremendous selection, and very smart and nice folks working at the store. The last time I stopped in, someone made a recommendation to me in passing, based solely on the other beers I was carrying. I'm honestly drinking that beer right now, and it's tremendous. Corks and Kegs has a great selection of craft beer and wine in a strip mall on Patterson Avenue. We try to come here and see what we can't get in North Carolina and the staff is always really helpful. They always ask if there is anything in particular we are looking for and make an effort to help you. They also sell growlers that you can get filled with a few types of beer and you can save $4 on the yelp app by checking in online on a growler fill. The beers are sorted by style and then some are chilled in the refrigerated section. There are also wines from all over the world and are sorted by grape varietal. During our most recent trip, the employee told us that The Veil Brewing Co had just opened on Saturday 4/16/16 and he recommended we head there to check them out. He was right because it was brand new and the beer was amazing. The space was also phenomenal and the master brewer Adam was there selling beer. Great selection of beer, just okay on the wine. Still, definitely better than going across the street to Martin's. Walking through their beer selection is almost like walking through a wine shop - they have a lot of great 22oz bombers. Definitely where I go to treat myself with a good local or global brew. My favorite part of the place though (besides the tastings, of course, because everyone likes free beer) is the fact that they have a March beer madness. Before march begins you can fill out your beer bracket and based off of blind tastings of two beers a day they select winners. The person with the most beers correct on the bracket gets a gift card. The selection might be good, but their phone service leaves a bit to be desired. Ordered kegs for a fundraising event, wasn't exactly 100% sure my kegs would be there (I was calling 10 days out). Found out the day before (was calling with a different question) that they don't provide keg tubs, only outdoor bags (whatever those are). Was like pulling teeth to find out where I can get one (turns out Home Depot). Service wasn't terrible, but I'm not thrilled either. Maybe when I walk into the store they'll be more hospitable. read more

Not the largest selection of beer and wine you'll ever find, but it is of very high quality and includes some fairly difficult to find labels. Their tags describing the various brews are helpful and pretty accurate. The staff seems fairly knowledgeable with the selection. The "dog milling around" was not OK for me! When I entered the store, the store's dog ran over and jumped on me. A staff person called the dog and put him in his crate, but said "he's just being friendly" instead of an actual apology. I don't think a public establishment should have an untrained and unrestrained dog that jumps on customers. It's not fair to people who are uncomfortable around rambunctious dogs. I have shopped here a number of times before - great selection and knowledgeable staff - but now I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Poor customer service. Called ahead to make sure they had keg and co2 in stock. was told yes. After driving from Glen Allen to their location, they don't even stock co2 for kegerators. Instead I was given a long spiel about how I need to go to arcet to get my tank filled. I finally got tired of hearing the long explanation and left. As I was leaving the clerk told me "f**k you!". They will not be seeing my business for 15 kegs per year. read more

thank you thomas. i always wonder why we've been friends for this long. now i know why. because he took me here one night we were bored and decided to pick up some beer/spirits to tide us over until we went out and turned the town upside down. the place has a great drink selection. i even put myself on the email list even though i don't live in richmond anymore. i picked myself up a 12 pk of stella and made my own 6 pack. thomas got the old staple (the bud lite 12 pack). the lady behind the counter was knowledgable and told me about specials going on in the coming weeks and she had a dog milling about. any place with a dog milling about has to be a great place to shop. you don't see dogs and beer in the same area anymore. read more

Huge beer selection, especially belgian style beers, but they really have something for everyone. Really nice wine selection as well, with some nice ones in the affordable range. As we are often looking for something to go with a weeknight dinner, but do not care for mass market wines found in the grocery stores, this place is perfect. Other pluses: Super-easy to hop in and out, with a great location along Patterson Ave, just west of Three Chopt Rd. Awesome staff, who is willing to chill a bottle for you or help find the right beer or wine for the occasion. Friday evening tastings are nice, too. Also, while prices might be a few cents higher than large stores (seriously, maybe 10 cents per six pack), it is so worth it for the convenience, helpfulness, and way better selection. read more

They even had the blood-orange San Pellegrino - which is not commonly found and scored major points. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and engaging. Only wish we lived closer. Great election but every time i've been in I've been treated like crap. Thought I just caught the guy on a bad day but after going in 3 more times and my wife having the same experience herself we are done. I would much rather go somewhere with not as great selection than come back here and get ignored or yelled at (yes, this guy yelled at me for simply asking how local breweries roll out their products and when to expect them). Great little place to go if you want a quick (sometimes cold depending on the brew) pack of beer you can't find in a grocery store. Amazing selection of 22 ouncers. The employees were awesome and know their stuff, and provided me with some great recommendations. Not a 5 star place due to the lack of selection if you want to make your own sixer, which I tend to do often. The selection varies each visit but not quite the size of other similar-sized beer stores to pick from. Like another reviewer said, check Total Wine for that. I concur that Corks and Kegs has a wonderful selection of beer, however their customer service is atrocious! I ordered kegs from here last year and had a lapse in memory as I had the exact same experience then. I am committed to shop local and do so at every opportunity but I will be researching another option when I next need a keg or a beer recommendation. From the moment I called and was treated rudely to when I arrived to pick up the kegs and was admonished to "return the dolly" after the "customer service" folks sent me to my car with two kegs to unload and load (I am a relatively small female) on my own, the service was just reprehensible. I am so disappointed that I specifically shopped local and small and was treated so poorly. I expected more. read more
