Total wine has become one of my favorite stores. I love perusing the aisles for new wines to try and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I can be a tad indecisive when it comes to choosing wines because I'm open to almost anything. Although, Rose's are my favorite, I enjoy champagne, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Malbec. I am a self-proclaimed novice wine enthusiast and since my trip to Napa & Sonoma I know good wine when I taste it. My favorite thing about Total Wine is that every time I go I'm able to sample a few things before making purchases. The problem is I go in for one bottle and come out with 3 or more. The good thing is I often share the bottles with friends and family, but it runs my tab UP! I would definitely recommend running to your local total wine and allowing the experts in there to help you discover the best fit wines for you or the best wine to gift to others. read more

All the staff have been helpful... usually if i cant find the beer or wine I am looking for they check their inventory and then other stores if they dont have it. Employees are always friendly, and willing to help you find something; or make suggestions. Prices are very reasonable. In addition to wine, they have a large variety of beer, cocktail mixes, snacks, and gifts. The stores are decent sizes, so give yourself enough time to check out everything that have! read more

So recently I went into total wine I'm 20yr to buy mocktails (glorified soda) and was denied as I'm not 21 which was understandable. The lady checking me out said if my guardian came down then they could purchase it and she would hold the order for me, which made sense as I've come in before to buy mocktails for parties with him. I called my dad and he started heading over (7mins away) then a different man came over and I was informed since I wasn't 21 even my dad couldn't buy the glorified soda since they knew it would be for me which was very shocking as stated above I've come in before and it's never been an issue with him?? Since my dad was seen with me in the parking lot even alone he wasn't able to buy them?? We had to drive out of our way to the only target that had them (which let me buy them no problem) 0/10 my father always comes here for his beers but he's started going to corks and kegs instead. I understand not buying under 21 even soda but being told one thing then another and given the run around was not good. I would highly recommend against coming here try something local instead they have better options anyway! read more

Unfortunately, we used this location for our wedding wines. All of the wine was incorrect. We wanted 12 bottles of white wine and 6 bottles of red wine. They gave us 12 bottles of basic red wine (again, not even the one we ordered) and 6 bottles of 2x as expensive RED wine. Post-wedding, we were confused as to why we had so much leftover wine. Turns out you can't trust them to pull the right stuff. If you do use them, DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING THEY PULL. When we went to return the leftover wine, I expected a bit more sympathy for messing up such an important event. Overall, I am sad and disappointed that this happened on my wedding day. read more

If you're looking for a large selection of wines, Total Wine is your best bet. The store is decided by white wines on the far right by the entrance, red wines on the left, and beer on the far left. Each aisle is then a subcategory of wine, grouped by region or type. Many of the wines have descriptive tags describing the taste, so that makes it very helpful when you're interested in trying something new without any knowledge or recommendations. They also have wines for every price point, so you'll be able to find something within your budget whether you have $6 to spend or $150. My one complaint is that the store is large and somewhat overwhelming but you are completely on your own to browse. I've never been approached by an employee asking if I want any help, and it can be very difficult to track someone down. read more

I like this Total Wine for a random 6-pack. They have pretty good prices and a nice selection. All the staffers have been nice when I've visited. One made a joke about my mom idling standing around while I investigated beers (I am one of those people who checks the reviews of every beer prior to purchase). I don't stop here often since Richmond is lush with amazing breweries and local options, but it's nice for when I want to mix it up with some shelfies. They also sell wine. As you know. But I don't drink wine anymore so I can't tell you anything about that part of the store beyond that they have many bottles of it. read more

On a positive note, Total Wine Westland Plaza has a great selection. The staff have always been friendly, too. If you order online for in-store pick-up, my advice is ALWAYS CHECK YOUR ORDER before you sign their paperwork and leave with your pre-packed cart. Today, I found one of my items was not packed in my cart when I got home. Annoying. It cost me several minutes on the phone with 2 managers before they agreed to deliver the missing item later today. When I order from totalwine.com with Westland Plaza as my pick-up store, I always check "no substitutions" on my vintage selections. Yet I often find Total Wine swaps my selections out for another year. Frustrating! So, keep that in mind and double check your orders before you walk out. Separately, it would be nice if this location hosted classes. Maybe they do, but I've never seen one available online despite being a "grand reserve" member. All in all, this Total Wine (Westland Plaza) has a decent shopping experience in the store. The online order pickup process has room for improvement. read more

Excellent collection, price is reasonable, very friendly customer service. They took back my beer cans as I could not make my trip, also helped me purchasing wines whatever I wanted. They were selling some canned Mojito in small cup which I ignored first, then the taste of it made me turn around and purchase the entire set. It is all about how you treat people. By the way, it seems that they are cheaper than Kroger, you will get people to advise. One guy even gave me an easy leaflet showing meaning of the different terms of the wine. Made my life easy. The leaflet also has the shape and sizes for different glasses for different wines. Very cute. read more

I LOVE Total Wine! Tonight I stopped in to get needed supplies for a dinner party I'm having next week. Great selection of beer and wine, imported and domestic. Prices in every range. I love building my own six pack of beer so that I can try new things. That's how I discovered my new favorite Fischer Amber Ale, product of France. Yum! Bought two bottles of red that I've never tried. I can hardly wait to pop the corks! P.S. Don't expect much help from the staff. They don't ask if you need help and if you have a question, they'll simply refer you to the tags on the shelves for descriptions. They' ve been steadily improving the beer selection here over the past few years and it's really quite phenomenal now. Big selection of domestic craft brew six packs, good import selection and a huge selection of individual bottles. You can "make your own six pack" which is a great way to try new brews. And they even have the cheap macro stuff too if that's your game ;) The staff here has been friendly and made good beer recommendations when I've talked to them. Plenty of parking. read more

When it came time to get all of the wine and beer for our recent wedding, we sallied on over to Total Wine. Total Wine is the mecca for booze and bubbles around these parts. They have coupons to boot. COUPONS. By the way, if you can't find it here, it probably doesn't exist. The shelves are chock full of all kinds of alcohol. The staff are always majorly helpful and so is the website. There's a really great alcohol calculator on there to help you figure out how much you need. It seems kind of strange for me to review a wine store, especially a chain like total wine, but I've had some very good experiences there that warrant a review. Within the past two months I have done a large on line order as well as two or three in person visits. Each time, the staff was right on point, the online order was ready to go at the appropriate time and I had no difficulty picking it up and paying for it. Every time we have been there for an in person visit, I have found the staff to be very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful when it came to finding certain wines or certain beers. As a general rule, I tend to favor more locally owned businesses, but when it comes to buying large amounts of wine or beer this place really can't be beat. Large variety, competitive prices, and good service will make them a regular for me. read more

Unsatisfied with my options, I elected to look up nearby stores selling wine and Total Wine popped up. I decided to stop by, and was helped by Alyssa who knew exactly what I was looking for. This place is huge and each aisle is clearly identified by region and type of wine. I was looking for the Fit Vine sauvignon blanc and ended up walking out with a rosé as well. While I didn't ask for assistance, the lady working there seemed very knowledgeable and genuinely happy to help a couple near by locate a new wine to try. I have been to this location 2 times and have had problems at check upon both times. 1st. time the clerk could not apply their Total Wine "Direct Wines" coupon, the 20% was not credited until I had them check. "Only three stars?!" some may say... but let me take you to the dreamland of expensive mistakes where I usually only give two stars! In preparation for a large fundraiser I was overseeing in the beginning of February, I went online to place the order for beer and champagne at Total Wine. (Purchased the wine from costco, slightly better prices!) I spent a handful of my time doing the math to make sure I ordered the right amount and consulted with friends about what selection of beer we should have at the event. After carefully, reviewing what I needed, I placed the order and hit "purchase". I showed up the following day to pick up my order and was surprised when it looked slightly less than what it should have been. I was assured that this was my order and to look over the invoice. In a slight panic, I assumed that I must have made the mistake and decided to go purchase another eight or nine cases of beer. I go home and decide to take a quick nap before I needed to be at the event to oversee the setup. I wake up and have an epiphany. I looked back at my receipt and compared it with the online confirmation to realize that I had been shorted almost 10 cases which equated to roughly $600.00 of beer that had been left off of my order. In this new panic, I showered, jumped in the car and called Total Wine. The representative said to come to the store and we could figure it out. When I got to the store, the two females at customer service were slightly helpful and patient with my slight overreaction but when one of them told me that the order was correct and I was wrong, I thought I was going to loose it. After a few more minutes, I finally heard what I knew had happened, "[they] made a mistake" and left out a third of my order. While I was happy that this was able to be resolved, I was disturbed with the lack of customer service and their them also immediately assuming that I was wrong. That was their first mistake. The second mistake was taking too long to take ownership and apologize. I'll probably order from here again but will carefully review my order and make sure they carefully review what they give me before assuming it is correct. read more

So there are a few things that you will learn about me - 1) If there is a rueben on the menu, I am ordering it 2) If there is eggplant parmesean on the menu, I am ordering it and 3) I LOVE a good deal or a good coupon. The $2 off four or six packs of beer (6.99 or higher, up to 4) basically equals buy-three-get-one-free six packs. The variety means that hubby gets to try new things each time. As far as Richmond beer selections goes this is about as good as it gets. The staff however is terribly uneducated, but the mass selection somewhat outrules that. My advice... do your research online about types of beers you might like and then build your own 6 packs when you arrive. This place is great. I went in looking for wine for my wedding. The manager was so helpful (Cameron I think). He offered advice on liquor as well despite not selling it. I wanted something cheap because I need about 120 bottles so I suggested Barefoot. He didn't try to up sell me and actually offered me advice to save money. He told me if I went to the bottles that were 2 cents more per bottle that he would be able to give me the 10% case discount which wasn't eligible for Barefoot. He also said that he preferred this other brand of wine and would have recommended it anyways. He went ahead and sold me what be thought they might sell out of but told me to call him in a month to get the rest so it wouldn't go bad and I wouldn't have to store it. He was honest with me about how much I needed and didn't try to pull the card that the website does in which it recommends 50% wine so I'd buy more. He suggested larger parties tended to be more evenly split amongst all drinks. So helpful and I look forward to working with him when I go back for the other 80 bottles! read more

I know I'm not a regular in Richmond, but the people who work in this store are not welcoming or friendly like the other Total Wine stores I've visited. There's also only wine and beer at this location and no hard liquor. I guess they're still fighting with the ABC stores in VA but either way, won't buy anything other than a few bottles of wine when in the area. I'll stock up at other locations and then drive to Richmond. Oh, and good news - on the way out, cashier was very friendly but by then, my jaw was already set on face scowl.
