Great selection and outstanding customer service in a clean and organized shop. Tony was very helpful as I wanted to purchase a 50 lb sack of grain and he has competitive prices. Original Gravity is a great addition to Richmond and now I can buy grain/hops/yeast locally instead of online. I've been to OG a few times, as we make some cider and wine every once in a while. Nothing fancy, but we like to do some home brewing on occasion. This visit was no different than the others. Quick in an out. They've got a huge selection, and to us novices, it's a little overwhelming. We always just ask at the front, get led straight to what we need - easy as can be. This is my go-to spot for brewing stuff. It's no fuss, and they've got something for every project. My advise, just ask - they know better than you do usually, and it never comes out badly. One last thing - they did move a couple doors down, so if it says CLOSED, just walk around the building. It's about 3 doors to the left if you're looking at the old storefront. read more

Stopped in only to check it out. Was very happy that I did. Ordered a black eye IPA (4 out of 5), not the BEST I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. That had 6 or so other beers on tap. What I really enjoyed, and the reason I stopped were the brewing/wine making supplies. Very nice selection. I ended up getting a basic starter kit for fruit wine price by piece for cheaper that a full, ready to go Amazon kit. Definitely worth the trip to that"other " side of the river. read more

I'm giving the store two stars because I think you can find what you're looking for there to home brew and the store looks well stocked. I'm new to home brewing and my wife and I drove 122 miles to go to Original Gravity specifically to look at buying better equipment than what my original "Kit" came with. We arrived at the store minutes after it opened. We walked down one row of equipment and were engaged by an employee (or owner; I'm really not sure) that asked what we were looking for. I told him that we wanted to look at better quality brewing pots. He motioned toward the wall and said "They're over there" and walked off. I was looking for someone to explain to me what to look for in a pot, why I may want to spend more now to save from making a purchase I may have to replace in months, etc. but we didn't get that. So we simply walked out. Yesterday we drove to Big Dan's Brew Shed in Greensboro, NC and spent $600.00 on equipment and enjoyed every minute we were there. read more

This shop is small, but well stocked. The organization makes it very easy to find what you're looking for. Since I do mead instead of beer I'm not the best judge of their grain or hops inventories, but the yeast is extensive and included both dry and liquid in a variety of strains. It's a bit out of the way for me but this is a great spot to find your fermenting needs. read more

Great place! The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. We have been buying brewing supplies from them for a few years, and we are so excited to see what beers they come up with. So far the violet saison is my favorite! They don't serve food, but they welcome you to get delivery, they have a basket of local menus. read more

Awesome shop. Super well stocked despite it's small appearance, a great variety of products to choose from for any level of brewer. I walked into this store a couple weeks ago. I was interested in brewing my own beer at home, and wanted to get a starter kit. The employees were really friendly, and helped me get exactly what I needed to start my new hobby. Since then, I've pestered them with a couple phone calls asking about the process, and they've been very helpful and kind. I'm so glad that I didn't have to order everything through an online shop that wouldn't really help me out. I'll be a regular customer here. read more
