South African wines with depth! Reds in VA can be extremely basic, but this VA grown SA grape is delicious! We went on a Sat about an hour or so before closing and had no lines, excellent service and delicious wines with a detailed charcuterie board. The grounds are less impressive than some VA wineries, but the service and accent (if you meet the owner) add to the whole experience. This is one of my new favorites. Close to Richmond, great depth of flavor wines, and fabulous service. Infact, we sat at a table and each tasting was brought to us. (They are redoing the tasting room.) While the bathroom reviews are not wrong, (a bit sketch now).... New ones are in the works. So glad I found a great Red in Va!!

Visited several wineries this day but this one was my favorite. The personal tasting experience was great. Dion ( sorry if I misspelled) was very attentive and friendly! He presented us some exceptional and unique wines. The grounds were very nice and relaxing. I really enjoyed the Koi Pond!

It was my first time going to this winery. The owners and workers are from South Africa. They were super funny and very sweet. Be careful that when you park you don't go to "grandpas house" The barn with the wine is closer to where the horse is and it has some table and chairs. We were the first ones there and it's super small but cute. I can't imagine what it's like when it's busy.

Great people and I highly recommend any of the charcuterie boards!! Relaxing place to spend an afternoon.

I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon to try some wines based on the great reviews. As I neared the tasting room, I noticed lots of uncleared tables, and found the same inside. There were 3 of us waiting for assistance and finally a woman showed up. When I heard that they were out of all white and rose wines, I left. It's ununfortunate that I wasn't able to try any wines. It would have been difficult to find a clean table anyway.

    Yummy!

I have been wanting to stop by this winery and I am glad we did. The owner was very knowledgeable, explained each wine well. Smooth, great tasting wine. Nice selection. Good charcuterie board, highly recommend.

This is the most wonderful small family owned winery specializing in South African wines. They have vines both here and in South Africa and have wine dinners and the annual South African festival. Deon and Max are knowledgeable and extremely talented. We have been going there for many years and have never been disappointed.

While in the Richmond area we decided to give Grayhaven a try... The young lady working there was quick to greet us and she was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The venue itself is very rundown, and since they weren't allowing customers inside, I couldn't imagine how tastings and visit will be during inclement weather. The style of wine they make and offer is South African, which I tend to enjoy. The wines we tried that they make were just OK, one was horrible, but that's just our feeling of it - to each their own. We did find a wine they offered, which was imported from another winery in South Africa that we enjoyed, so we stayed and had a glass or two from that bottle. Can't say that we'd return, not much scenery to enjoy while sitting & sipping. The koi pond was decent, but that was about it.

I LOVED this winery. I enjoyed every wine, even the reds. I will visit again. The venue is fashioned after a hobbit abode. It was cute. We sat by the pond and the owner served our tasting. He was very informative and kind. We bought two bottles of wine. One was a Rosé from France and a bottle of their Rendezvous (a red wine). There were a couple of ladies there when we arrived and another couple arrived when we were getting ready to leave.

What a joy! We got to visit this winery on the most beautiful day of the year yet and couldn't have spent it at a better place. We were sat at a table on the deck by the koi pond, surrounded by flowers, and treated to their tasting. Now we're a group with varying wine preferences but there wasn't a wine in the tasting we didn't enjoy. The wines were easy drinking without being forgettable. Can't wait to go back and enjoy another afternoon here!

Really awful fake tasting wine, like if you put raspberry essence in wine. Nice people but small pours in the tasting of not great wine.

Both helpful with tips on what to order from their beer and wine options based off what we told them of our tastes. The grounds and building were very well kept. We chose to sit outside so our kids could run around (6 kids between us and our friend's family). They tried to light a fire for us, but that was the one downfall: all the fuel was wet from recent rain I think, so the fire never really took and we just had smoke for a while and no warmth or flames to enjoy watching. But they tried! We enjoyed all the wines we sampled, and went home with one bottle. All that I tried were dry, well-bodied and smooth. My husband only found the beer so-so, so next time we go he'll probably stick to the wines that he also enjoyed from tasting my flight. The soft pretzels are huge, delicious and delivered hot and fresh. The cheese sauce for dipping them was really tasty and much better than most cheese sauce offered for soft pretzels elsewhere. The staff was very courteous, offering us blankets as it was chilly outside and they saw the fire wasn't thriving. We are only 25 minutes from them, and we'll definitely go back; we were very happy with our visit!

For a 32,000+ square foot mansion (that was originally built as a single family private home) the space is immaculately and meticulously clean and maintained to the highest standard. I did not see a single speck of dust, no cobwebs on the soaring ceilings, or stain on any upholstery. The mansion also did not feel austere or cavernous despite its size; on the contrary, it is absolutely bursting with some of the most beautiful, unique, and at times strange but wonderful decor. For example, the game room has both billiards as well as an extensive and exotic big game taxidermy collection, whereas the adjacent two-story library boasts a hand carved fireplace and a spiral wrought iron staircase. I spent most of my evening exploring every room and trying to take in as much as possible. The multitude of staff who serviced our event were both warm in their interactions as well as discreet when necessary. The in-house catering was also very good. We had a tortellini station, a raw bar, breads and spreads, as well as passed hors d'oeuvres and a dessert station, and I enjoyed everything I tried. My only regret is that Dover Hall doesn't seem to do open house hours or guided tours, because I would love to be able to return and see more of this remarkable building.

A safety concern that I hope the venue addresses in the near future.

And I've tried some of their wine at Rassawek Vineyard at a wine festival years ago, so I decided to pop in! It's tucked away in the woods, down a dirt road, with an uneven gravel parking area with steep slopes. I got stuck twice, my car's wheels just spun in the driveway. I think they should pave the paths to and from the house and the parking lot. It was a mess. I walked down the dirt path, climbed a couples steps to the porch, and came to a modest house, part of which was remodeled into a tasting room. Very small. Very plain. The dining room was sparse and set up with one table for guests to sit, but the interior and surroundings were nondescript. Except for the invasion of stink bugs that lined the perimeter of the ceiling, no other interesting decor. I was pretty turned off by the insects everywhere. There was a sliding door which lead to an enclosed, (I think it was enclosed) sunroom/balcony and there were a few guests out there. The view was basically "the woods". The bathroom was down a hall, where I saw a closet used for wine storage, and the stairs were set up as a makeshift gift "shop". Definitely not one of the more fancy places to have a flight of wines. The gentleman serving the flight was polite and nice enough, $12 for the tasting. Here are the wines I tried: 2024 Sauvignon Blanc, (reds) Naked Norton, 2023 Merlot, 2020 Petit Verdot. While these wines were fine, I wasn't overly impressed. I checked out and didn't purchase anything, but it was pleasant to sit and experience this small, very casual, homey style winery, but I've no desire to return.
