So I have past this place so many times and wanted to try it bc it looked nice on the outside, this is not the case on the inside. It's dingy looking with a terrible tables that look like they got them second hand at a Chinese buffet. I still had some hope and I always order the basics bc if you can't do that you can't do anything well! I got scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, and pancakes. Eggs looked decent but tasted terrible with a fishy taste like they didn't properly clean their pans or griddle! Sausage was good and so were hash browns. Pancakes were either under cooked or they use something unusual to get them to rise, it was a awkward spongy & mealy in your mouth and they added cinnamon which was interesting but not what I want when I ordered plain pancakes. I am so unimpressed with this place. They have decent food, but when it is served at a place that they don't bother cleaning properly, i.e. walls filthy, marry ketchup to where they don't clean enough and it causes rust, floors, chairs and bathrooms dirty. Not only this but they don't have a hostess. We came in and sat ourselves...others trickled in after and we sat for 10 minutes before service where everyone else were being assisted shortly after. I would never recommend because the 2 times I've been the food wasn't good enough to overcome the cleanliness or service. read more

This is a fine establishment. The location kinda sucks, because it's not really near anything. It is however a GREAT find and a beautiful area. We often take pictures out in front of that water tower out front and the brick front store fronts. The foods good, but what get's me is the service - top notch. The owner is around most of the time, and he is a very gracious man who let's you know that he appreciates your business. That's the kind of thing that makes me support local small business like this vs. the big chains. My fav's are the chicken fried steak and the potato salad. My son likes the burger. Do stay away from the pizza's though - blah - totally tasted like a frozen nightmare! That was a mistake! Some of the food's too greasy for my taste. Diner is what we were looking for and diner is what we got. Cute place where lots of locals eat. I had the grilled pork chops, with green beans and a side salad. The side salad was the usual diner fare, but the pork chop was tasty and the green beans seasoned with bacon. My husband had the double pork chops grilled, a side salad and the onion rings. He loved the onion rings. He finished off with the banana pudding. OK. I had a bite - it was good. We were waited on by friendly Chelsea. The only negative: we came out smelling like fried food. Hey. Breakfast today. Omelets were tasty. Hash browns good. Homemade biscuits great. Nice people. But they cut corners in the wrong ways. Coffee was Folger's (the plastic tub was visible) and weak, in my opinion the worst type of coffee possible. Juice watery and from a jug like you see in government cafeterias. No silverware until after the food came and we asked twice (waiting on the dishwasher). Gravy for the biscuit was not hot. Pancakes almost burned. The food took a long time to arrive. Someone told me about this little gem a few months ago. I had never heard of it before. It's very Conveniently located to my job, but I never knew it was there! A nice variety of comfort foods. Daily specials may include meatloaf or chicken and dumplings. I like the vegetable plate. Green beans with bacon, delicious onion rings and nice crispy fried okra are just a few of the things I've tried. The salads are good with real bacon not bacon bits. The chicken salad is a nice generous portion. Reasonably priced for lunch. Don't order the coffee at lunch time, it's usually what was left from breakfast, but still a great place for lunch. I haven't tried the breakfast menu yet but heard it was pretty good as well. The pies look great but there's never enough room left for dessert. read more

My son was hungry for chicken and dumplings and he used YELP to find this place. And although it wasn't on the regular menu, it was the special the day before. So we inquired if they still had any and the manager hooked us up! My son was very pleased (although, as a good son would say- they weren't quite like mine!). Where do I start?! How about this, the food was so good that we jammed to the music. Good food will make you forget/ignore the music playing like in awesome buffets. GREAT food will have singing along to songs you don't know like at your mom's holiday plates. Friday night, 7pm, hot date with the wife,all-you-can-eat-catfish was the scene. To ensure I gave a honest review, we scooped triple appetizers too and that is where the wonderment began. Cheese sticks were thick, gooey yet NOT fried too hard and the marina sauce was even thicker. Grade A. Fried pickles were thick slices and fried harder than the sticks. Grade B. Fried okra was usual size and regular good as well. Grade B. But you wanna know about the catfish huh? Almost there! The hand-cut French fries were like something from Dives, Diners & Drive-thrus. They weren't heavily seasoned (a cheat code for fries is just heavy salt) and we still destroyed them. Long and fried lightly, we snacked on them like they fresh Lays chips. Grade A+. Even after being full, we kept talking and pulling fries. The hushpuppies could be a separate side dish. Hard on outside but consistent on inside is a difficult task. All SIX of ours were just right. Grade A. The coleslaw is a solid B+ but I didn't have room to eat more than a few bites. It needed a sprinkle of pepper but even THAT is a compliment because I pepper my mom's coleslaw! And finally, the catfish. Being cut into it large bites was a good moves. It essentially made the catfish into a finger food so we gazed into each other eyes while grinning and dipping into tarter, cocktail and ketchup. I'm a fan of lightly fried food and the fish fit the bill. Once again, lightly seasoned so we could taste the fish and not salt/corn meal/etc. Grade A. This is MY new, NEW spot! read more

When it got to us the omelet looked like it was cooked on an unclean pan, i got biscuits and grave with sausage had no flavor and the bottom half of the biscuit was rock hard. Looking for a place with "local" flavor while we're in town. This place popped up on a trip advising web site, and 99% of the reviews are accurate - great food, very friendly staff, reasonable prices and comfortable surroundings. My husband had the chopped steak with fried okra and salad as his sides, I had the Monday night special of chicken fried steak with hand-cut fries and salad. The breading on the chicken fried steak had just the right amount of spice to it (apologizing for my "bland" palate, I'm from the midwest), complimented the creamy gravy well. My husband's quarter pound chopped steak was done to his satisfaction and loaded with onions, he passed on the mushrooms. The brown gravy on the side was the best way to do it. To top it off, he had the peach cobbler, still warm from the oven, and I had the coconut cream pie, both obviously homemade and delectable. Austin our server was attentive and easygoing. She said the fried okra reminded her of how her mom used to make it (and her mom was from Georgia...true southern cooking). Everyone at work raves about this place so I packed up the neighbors and we drove to Conroe, We live in Spring so it's not close the cafe was decorated great for it's concept. They were busy probably 5 to six tables had people. Their appeared to be only one waitress trying to handle all the tables as well as someone coming in every 5 to 10 minutes to eat. We all ordered and I had to try the daily special all you can eat Catfish. The food we ordered took about 20 minutes to arrive everyone really liked their food but no one ever came to check on us once the food was delivered. I waited and waited and waited to order more catfish and was finally able to get some ones attention just as everyone at the table finished their meals. I asked for three to four pieces of catfish and I waited and waited and finally gave up and we asked for the check and someone at our table inquired as to why no more fish was delivered and the waitress said let me check on it. In 1 minute she was back with four pieces of piping hot grease laddened pieces of catfish that had to be cooked in about 30 seconds and then immediately delivered. The first fish was perfect to me the second was really not edible. As you enter the cafe look around if they are busy turn around and leave the server was nice but the owner just over worked her this day. I would not return. read more
