Wow! What a great little cafe! We were heading home from Galveston and got here about 11:00. It was a debate whether to order the Frito chili pie--which looked delicious!--or breakfast. Breakfast won out. My husband had the Boxcar, 2 eggs, meat, hashbrowns, and toast. I got the Breakfast Bowl, with gravy. It's homestyle potatoes, crumbled sausage, cheese, and scrambled eggs, all piled in a little skillet. Of course, I got gravy to pour over the top. It was really really good! The tables can be moved together for larger groups but are generally 4 tops The space is a bit smaller so I imagine it can get busy, but tables are turned over quickly Food: The food is solid - nothing fancy and exactly what you'd expect. Went to enjoy the catfish last Saturday night as a family, my son ordered a chicken salad sandwich in white bread... food arrives and there is mold on 1/2 of the sandwich bread noticeable mold..... we sent it back and got a fresh bread but. That's it!!!!??? No apologies from a a manager no we'll take care Of the charge for the sandwich, so my son was only able to stomach eating 1/2 of it before being just disgusted!!!! We have lived in the area for 2 years and I had wanted to stop to eat here. DON'T The food was horrible, the service was bad. I ordered turkey with mash potatoes and gravy on toast. I wish I had taken a picture. It was cold, the turkey was slices from a deli it seems, the gravy was watered down, they did not give me the mash potatoes. They too were cold. I rate the food 3 stars but do not order the baked potato. I believe they heat up leftover potatoes in the microwave making them dry and hard. The chicken fried steak and gravy was great! The reason for my 2 star rating is the dirty dining room and the NASTY HORRIBLE carpet floors. It looks like the owner has checked out and doesn't care. Everything is dirty! Even inside the pie display case. If you ask for ketchup, make sure it has been refrigerated because the bottle I got was rancid and could make someone seriously sick. Convenient off/on access from I-45. We were seated immediately. Cory was friendly and attentive. My wife had the Breakfast Bowl and I had The Western. Food quantity was extraordinary - neither of us could finish our meal - but the best part was quality. Quality of food . My wife and I both ordered breakfast. Our eggs were cold as was our orders of bacon which was also burnt . We sent the bacon back and our waitress just put the same two orders of burnt bacon in the microwave to warm them up . We were seated across from the kitchen so we could see what she was doing . My wife's pancakes were so cold that the butter wouldn't even melt on them . Also there was a bug crawling on the top pancake . I am very disappointed in the food that was served. It was obvious that the hash browns that were served with my Boxcar menu were overly cooked. so crispy I could not even cut them with a fork or a knife. The bacon was anything but crispy. I was not able to chew it and digest it to say the least. The eggs were ok. I ordered regular white bread toast and was served the Texas size toast, I attempted to eat what I could but just had to say something to the waitress about it. She suggested that She send in another order??? What?? I would trust this cook to cook me another of the same thing?? We had eaten there before and I ordered a baked potato. I could not find the potato due to all the sour cream that was thrown on it. The chicken and dumplings we ate there on another occasion had little to NO chicken to say the least. Popped in to grab some fried green tomatoes and maybe other items to eat dinner with my grandma as we were in town. The service was really exceptional, the restaurant was very clean and the food was prepared promptly. I enjoyed the food myself, I did feel that the grease may have been a little too high as some of the fried food was a little too crispy and the batter a little too thick. Then again it just may be a difference between regional deep frying styles. We thought the prices were exceptionally fair. They were so super kind and my grandmother as she doesn't get out of the home often, really love the fried green tomatoes. My kiddo really enjoyed the fried pickles and I enjoyed it all. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mixed veggies and green beans. Those veggies were delicious and I am not the kind of person who gives a lot of thought to veggies. I think they must have had a lot of butter. They were very tasty. The green beans were a bit soggy, but still tasty with small bits of bacon, but the bacon was soft, so I wasn't crazy about that. The chicken breast came with a cup of gravy on the side. I like it, it was like a bechamel sauce with some pepper and nutmeg flavor to it. Then I ordered a coconut pie that I loved! I will come back for sure. We came on a Saturday for lunch to make time for the next soccer game for my oldest son. The ambiance felt very calm and relaxing, not a cold and modern place. Stopped by here couple days ago for breakfast it was fantastic... Biscuits & Gravy w sausage was spot on. I got the Engineer Plat 3 eggs, bacon, & sausage added a English Muffin only $8 plus,$2 for muffin! Daughter got the Chicken & Waffles at $12, she love it... waffles were great. Kids meal good portions and $5.50. Can't wait to go back this Saturday for there Catfish. went for lunch 12/05/2025 and it was horrible we lived in conroe for many years and we considered it our favorite place for fried catfish. we mover 2 years ago and if we were ever there on a friday or saturday we made it a point to stop and eat the all-you-could -eat fried catfish. on this friday we stopped and ordered our trust y fried catfish, the onion rings and coleslaw.......plate came out super quick "this told me the fish was sitting" and first bite was totally cold and i could not even bite thru it. sent it back after explain ing what the problem was. well the next plate was at least hot but the catfish has been changed. maybe cheaper vendor. fish was tough and flavor not the same. we have eaten this dish many dozens of times so i can make this statement. i used to consider there onion rings as good as mels in tomball. these were sooooo heavy battered and the little sliver of onion was hidden inside. they were totally horrible. only saving grace was to cold slaw was good. i have never not gotten a refill on the catfish. this terrible meal made me want to just leave. before i left i ask to talk to the manager and told her of the problem. she blamed it on the lady cook and said she was having a bad day. she should have been sent home or better yet" fired". this cook has cost the 2 long time clients. bigger problem goes past the cook because many things have been allowed to change that surely management instituted. crappy catfish and the cement coated onion rings. good luck to you in the future because you are going to need it!!! read more

My husband and I had just bought a mattress and was starving after spending so much time at looking around. This was close by so we stopped in and so glad we did. He had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and okra and I had chicken fried steak with corn and mashed potatoes. It was really good. We cleaned our plates. It was very tasty. The girl that served me and greeted me as I walked in was very sweet and polite. My complaint is the food..who ever they have cooking gotta go. Ordered my 2 year old breakfast. 1 egg, 1 pancake, 1 sausage The pancake wasn't cooked all the way through it was doughy and raw still, the sausage appeared to be cooked decent but appeared a little pink (maybe it was the lighting) eggs, I mean cmon you can't mess up scrambled eggs. I ordered steak fingers, green beans and mash potato. Potatoes were cold inside, and dry no flavor, beans no flavor at all, steak fingers were 3/10. I'm not bashing a small business, but it didn't seem clean inside, the food wasn't good and I wouldn't come back. If you want old folk food go toe Cracker Barrel. read more

I ordered the country potatoes and I was a little disappointed. But other than that, everything was great. The country potatoes were more like hard leftover french fried pieces with a few pieces of onion. I was expecting larger, softer potato pieces and definitely more caramelized onions. Sometimes you just need comfort food and today was one of those days. We've seen this place along 45 but never have made the stop until today. We were cheerfully greeted as we entered and advised to select a widely spread out table for our own. Our server was quick to the table and every request was met with a smile. I went for an open faced roast beef sandwich and asked for extra gravy which turned out to be unnecessary. This was well done. Aptly named as it is located close to a railroad track. This is located in a strip center. There is plenty of parking. The food is good. It's served hot and fresh. The restaurant is kept very clean. It's nicely furnished and has a pleasant casual atmosphere. It's pretty popular for it's breakfasts and it's daily specials, especially catfish night (Fridays). The service is very good. Once you are seated, you won't have to wait long to get your drinks and place your order. The young ladies that serve the food are pretty and very sweet. They are also very competent. I've never had anyone get my order wrong or forget a special request. Their menu offers a good variety without being too long. They offer a good variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I've noticed it's often used for meetings by clubs or companies. It's definitely worth a visit when you are in the area. read more

This time it was quite, not like my first visit at the height of lunch hour, we were able to sit in a booth and noise level was quietly nice. I had the Monday special, chicken fried steak that comes with 2 sides, so I selected green beans and onion rings. My husband ordered the same but with mixed vegetables and fried pickles. I don't ever think I've seen such thick fried pickles, I used a knife to cut them, they were well breaded and juicy. The onion rings were thick on the onion and light on the breading and darn near perfect. The chicken fried steak was cooked well and served with a choice of white or brown gravy.
