Pros: The frozen fries and canned, heated sauerkraut were serviceable. Service was OK and we didn't get food poisoning. Cons: Tables are sticky. Heffeweitzen was flat and odd tasting. Kasespatzle was mushy and not traditional (cheese goop used instead of butter and cheese). Brats tasted fine but lacked a natural casing and grilled exterior. read more

First-let me start with how disappointed I was to find that the menu changed. My family used to visit this restaurant annually, and to visit and find that majority of their authentic German cuisine items were removed was so disappointing. Now onto the experience: friends and I were sat at a table after waiting for 40 minutes-no big deal, we knew there was going to be a wait. But when we were sat, it took a while for a server to greet us, meanwhile people who were sat after us were greeted, and received drinks and appetizers. Eventually, a nice older woman saw that we were sitting and waiting and asked if we were OK, and I voiced that we haven't been greeted yet when the manager walked up to her. She began to tell him that we hadn't been greeted yet, but she wasn't even able to get a word out before he scolded her in front of many guests on the floor. My friends and I were appalled. She walked off, seemingly a bit embarrassed, and the manager comes over, and stands next to our table-doesn't face us, doesn't make eye contact or anything, and says that his name was Maurice, that he was the manager, and that he'd be with us in a minute. So there were sat, still, no drinks, and we were in talks of going somewhere else when a nice woman came and took our drink orders. Since we had waited a while,we knew what we wanted to eat and We placed our appetizer and dinner order as well. Our drinks were delivered, and a couple minutes after, the manager returned to the table, same as before-kind of standing away from the table, not facing us, and not making eye contact with us. He began to ask for our order when we told him that our order had already been taken, and he exclaimed out loudly and repeatedly "oh, thank God, thank God" as if waiting on us was going to be the end of the world. Fortunately, the woman was able to finish our dinner service, and we thanked her for being pleasant. All we wanted was to be served at all. And the fact that the manager was proud to call himself a manager and behave so inappropriately towards an employee and to guests is concerning. It's evident he creates a hostile working environment. Husband and I had been wanting to try this place for a while... especially since everytime we crave good German food we drive to Helen. I guess we are still driving to Helen. The menu is extremely lacking... we were looking forward to a menu with many German choices. There was only like 6 sandwhich choices, 2 of which were American style burgers. No appetizers... unless you want to pay $15 dollars for a pretzel... you heard that right... $15 dollars for a pretzel! Stupidly, we hit the bakery on the way out. The cookies... yuck! This place is super cute!!!! Total order came to $60 Also beware they had a 4% uncharge on their check if you pay with card. Additionally we spent $24 on the bakery items (will post later) As we arrived we were immediately greeted and sat promptly by the manager. We was sat at a dirty table and has crumbs and drink rings on the table. One thing I like is that their protocol is to bring waters immediately to the table which is wonderful. Not to long after our waters our actually server came to the table and we shared that the table was dirty and wiped it for us. We decided to order the potato pancakes and I ordered a mango IPA to celebrate a whole year without alcohol after getting permission from my doctor to have a beer! :) Anyways, the potato pancakes were delicious, crispy and seasoned on the outside with a soft pillowy inside. The sour cream was plain as most places usually are but I always suggest a herby sour cream...I guess that is the chef in me. The applesauce was actually a cranberry applesauce and it was pretty great! My wife said she doesn't usually eat potato pancakes with applesauce but she did with this one. After that our server came to take our dinner order. We both ordered the chicken zitrone which means lemon. We both asked for extra lemon butter sauce also instead of the vegetables that came with it we decided to change it. I ordered it with the mashed potatoes and my wife ordered it with german potato sauce. Now let me tell you all now so you are not fooled. Our server NEVER told us nor did the menu tell us it was a $1 up-charge for extra sauce and for the german potato salad. And let me tell you how AMAZING the sauce was! WELL....it wasn't. It was nothing of "lemon butter sauce. If you look really hard it looks like its olive oil with capers sunk down in the bottom and thats EXACTLY how it tasted. It was oil and damn capers. No such thing as a lemon butter sauce. So you can imagine my frustration seeing $2 up charges on my check for sauce that was really olive oil with capers. So as bad as that sounds...it gets worse. Now being in the food Industry for 17 years I have always been taught you need to do 3 minutes, 3 bites and then check on your table....our server did no such thing. We only seen him twice. To place our app order and our dinner meal. We had to ask another server for boxes and the check. We spoke to the manager and there was not much he did for us either. This cute little German restaurant on the corner is kind of unassuming, but so inviting. This was my second visit and each time the service has been attentive, fun and genuinely kind. The bartender Cody was so patient and helpful as we made our choices. We really only went in for a beer or two, but ended up sharing the Jägerschnitzel with German potato salad and spaetzle. It was good and they even split it on 2 plates for us. The schnitzel was thin and breaded nicely, but I wish there had been a lot more mushroom gravy. The star of the show was the Oktoberfest beer! It was delicious and not too malty. This place is perfect for a relaxing beer or quick fun bite to eat. They can also accommodate larger parties if you need that. They have a whole bakery section as well with pies, cakes and cookies, but I'll have to try that next time. read more

Drove by and decided to stop in for a pretzel and it was amazing! Giant pretzel with mustard and cheese sauce which were both delicious. The cheese had almost a jalapeño taste to it which made it so good. Inside was super cute and the staff was very nice. Stopped in at The Village Corner while visiting friends in Atlanta. Since 2 of us are from the Tampa area, this reminded us of something we have back home. We ordered a cheese plate and our waiter didnt know what they actually were, only one we were aware of as a Port Wine cheese. It didn;t really matter, they were all delicious as was the fruit. Charcuterie, Weinerschnitzel and sausages were the food of the day and we gorged ourselves to the point of needing to take things home. We al left with full bellies and happy hearts. First time trying this place out. I sat at the bar and ordered a drink and received a few samples to top it. My food came out before I could even finish my drink! The service was very fast, easy-going and everyone working was nice. The bartender I had was named Rip, solid guy. He always made sure that I had a drink before my last one was empty and even let me have a few samples of some of the beer that I haven't tried from here. Decided to stop by while I was exploring the area. First off, parking is plenty and very easy. It is on the corner of an intersection so it's really easy to access. Staff members are great, very friendly and straightforward. This place has a bakery as well as a bar and a restaurant. I decided to sit at the bar. Service is quick and efficient. I ordered Sauerbraten, spätzle, Waldorf salad, and a honeyweizen. The beer was good, a little too much head though. The sauerbraten had a really good vinegar-forward taste, but the beef was a little dry. I was hoping it will have more of a brisket-like texture, but asking for extra gravy helped with the texture. The gravy was delicious, but a little on the lighter color side. I asked for my dessert to go. I ordered the goat cheese cheesecake, and it is delicious. I'm not sure about the crust though, because it is a little crumbly, but oh my goodness, such great flavor read more

The Village Corner in Stone Mountain Georgia is a great spot for good food and good times so it makes a perfect party location to celebrate Oktoberfest or any other time. This place is also a bakery so they have a lot of great baked goods and desserts. I really enjoyed my sauerbraten and chicken in wine sauce I had during my two visits. The German food here is good but not always great. I did find the beer selection here to be up to par so that was a good experience. SERVICE: When we arrived, the neighboring table complained that they had ordered an hour ago and no food or update on the status was provided by their waitress. Their food finally came shortly after we ordered ours. The gentleman waiting on us was very friendly and stopped by throughout the meal to make sure we were okay. FOOD: Our Beer Cheese Pretzel arrived within 10 minutes, piping hot and delicious. For entrees, we ordered the Rouladen (a German stuffed beef roll with sour cream gravy) and a Jaeger Schnitzel (breaded pork cutlet with red wine mushroom gravy). I usually see these with brown mushroom gravy. My brother really liked his rouladen, but I thought the schnitzel was just okay. Both meals came with a side of Bavarian spaetzel and red cabbage, which was good. BAKERY: (4.5 Stars) The onsite bakery was the highlight for me. They had a nice selection of cake, which could be purchased whole or by the slice, cookies, and other assorted treats. The staff working in this area were fun and expeditious with filling the orders. Coming out of Stone Mountain Park and saw this little gem just on a corner while sitting at the red light. Unanimous decision - "turn in." A bit quiet for what I think of for a German restaurant but what it lacked in festive atmosphere it made up for in quality of food and excellent waitstaff. Giant pretzel was a great start then sausage and schnitzels for the table. Flavors were all spot on. Only negative was the up charge to switch out sides. Hated I don't save room for dessert because they looked great. Prices not bad in the $17-$20 range per entree. read more

The Village Corner is good, and one of the few German restaurants in the Atlanta area. I had the jaegar schnitzel, red cabbage, and spaetzle (see pic). The schnitzel was good, the spaetzle was okay, and the red cabbage was the highlight of my dinner. My friend had the bratwurst with side of spaetzle, which he enjoyed. The server was not too friendly, which is surprising as most restaurants are doing everything they can to make customers happy during the pandemic. We have been coming here over the years and have been happy with the food. The interior is super cool old school German style, which is really neat. Parking is ample but be careful getting in/out of the busy street out front. Stone Mountain park is just up the street and today we hiked about 8 miles inside the park and were hungry for some good food. The Village Corner accomplished that. Enjoy! read more

Surprisingly, this place was pretty good. I've heard it was so so. I'm shocked that it has been in business for 46 years. I overhead another waiter say that The Village Corner started out as a bakery then evolved into the restaurant side. It has definitely been around from what I can remember as a little girl visiting the area (Stone Mountain). I had the reuban sandwich; it was a sizable sandwich. I don't think I specified that I wanted the German potato salad substitute, but that was what came out at the higher of the two side options. Meh. But it was a nice stray from the usual fries. The reuban was super messy to consume, but delectable with its flavors and textures. Instead of swiss cheese, it was a saucy cheddar cheese of sorts and sauerkraut. The hubs choose the German sausage plate which you're able to choose two. We ended up with the knockwurst and frikadellen. I really liked the knockwurst as the texture was really soft, almost butter-like. Though the flavors were mild, it tasted really good. The frikadellen was them most different with it being a hamburger of sorts. This had much more aromas and flavors, it also had more sodium. There were also a heaping mound of sauerkraut, German mustard, and a bit of (crispy) potatoes. These both were pretty tasteful dishes. The food would be a 3 1/2 to 4 star experience. Though Reese, our waiter, was friendly, I just don't appreciate the slight sly deception of upcharging. If you recommend something, then just say it. We def needed more water at the end of our meal too so there goes the rounding up of my review. read more

Stopped in after a long hike up and around Stone Mountain. One of the few German restaurants I've seen around the Atlanta area. There is a bakery on one side with the restaurant on the other. They brew their own been and pour generous amounts for about $5. We sat at the bar and the bartender was willing to pour samples. We split the 2 person meat platter which came with pretty much everything for $30. The sausages were all good, as was the potato and the sauerkraut. We didn't try the bakery so I cant speak to it, but at least it looked good. No disappointments and decent food for someplace so far out of town. read more

To be fair, food is good here, we swing by when we visit the Stone Mountain. But services have always been subpar. And today, we realized how much they nickel and dime their customers. We were charged for hot water because apparently it takes energy to boil (but not for ice?), and they charge an extra 3.99% for credit card usage when they probably get charged 2%+ for it. We spoke with the managers about the charge for hot water and they kept on saying this is how we do things, that even though no other restaurant charges for hot water they would. Five stars for a delicious casual German restaurant with a solid beer list and a great patio. My husband and I were in the mood for German food and beer and The Village Corner had good reviews. It also had a large (dog friendly!) patio that was very pleasant. As far as drinks, we ordered the beer flight, a glass of banana beer and a glass of Croatian wine. The Solstice Lager was exceptional: subtly sweet with a great yeast flavor. We also really liked the banana beer. I loved that they had Croatian wine too and I enjoyed its pleasantly sour flavor. For food, we had the potato pancakes with salmon. The salmon was really good but the potato pancakes were just okay for me. For mains, I had the rouladen, which is thin sliced beef rolled around onions and pickles. It was solid! I'd never seen a dish like it before and it was fun to try. I got the red cabbage and German potato salad as my sides and they were very good. For dessert, you go inside and order separately from the dessert counter. They had a ton of good stuff and I had a great gingerbread cookie. Our server was just okay and didn't refill our waters but I could overlook this in light of everything else. Spent the afternoon exploring Stone Mountain. We stopped in here for lunch. The decor is is pretty, lots of dark wood, definitely makes you feel you're in another country. My daughter said that it has a "homey" feel. We ordered the big pretzel. I'm usually not a fan of them because they seem dry and freezer burnt. Not this one! Everything was so good. I had the German Sausage Plate,my friend had the Gruyere Spaetzel and my daughter had the Schnitzel. Our server was awesome and I wish I had gotten his name. I had extremely high hopes for The Village Corner because I enjoy German food, pastries and beer. The outdoor atmosphere was chill and with appropriate spacing. Not sure if they were low staffed or this was the normal time to order your drinks and food but it took us 30+ minutes to get our drinks ordered and another 20 minutes to order our food and volume of customers didn't warrant this kind of wait. Hopefully they were just low staffed and this isn't normal. If this is normal maybe just order drinks and expect that your there for hours without food or drink refills. I expect a lot from a claimed authentic German based restaurant regarding their brats, sauerkraut and schnitzel. Unfortunately I was disappointed in the kraut, felt like it came out of a jar and lacked flavor. The Jaeger schnitzel was a bit skimpy on the cut and the mushroom gravy was not authentic German gravy. They saved themselves with the bratwurst and knockwurt, they were really good with flavor plus the mustards went well with the sausage plate. The pastries were really good! The only thing related to Germany about this restaurant was the name. We ate here for lunch and from the start, should have walked out. The restaurant is in desperate need of renovations to the outside with chipping paint and lose floorboards, and to the bizarre decor inside (strange to have an 8 foot Mr Potato-head, from Toy Story, blow up doll inside of the dining room full of dusty picnic baskets lining the walls). Table cloths were obviously dirty as well and needed to be washed. We ordered two waters, potato pancakes, the pretzel, and Deutsche Platte für zwei (German platter for two). The water came out with a bit of floating paper in it which should've been our second warning . The potato pancakes were both saturated in oil and burned, and were served with a side of cranberry apple sauce (strange taste) and sour cream. The pretzel was quite hard and dry and served with honey mustard that had a large curly hair on top. The actual main dish for two that my wife and I shared was quite dreadful. It contained potatos (very undercooked and raw), sauerkraut straight from a jar, bratwurst (only decent food on the plate), a strange smoked sausage, a knockwurst that smelled poor, a Frikadellen that was undercooked, a very bland small schnitzel, and two mustards (honey mustard and an actually decent stone ground mustard) The pictures online are nothing like what was being served to us, and this restaurant is an insult to Bavaria and German cuisine as a whole. Service was mediocre and unfriendly. We definitely will not return here. I would recommend that anyone who wants a great dining experience eat at a different village corner. read more

My family used to live in Stone Mountain. We were going to have a reunion lunch here because it's been years since we've been together and even longer since we've been back to Stone Mountain. So I made a reservation here two months ago. We came from all over - Memphis, Athens, Cleveland, GA. When we arrived at the restaurant, there was a sign at the door that the restaurant was closed for a private event. I was completely stunned. Like I said, I made a reservation two months ago. There was no email, no phone call, or no text telling me that my reservation would not be honored. I spoke to the owner, and all he could manage was a perfunctory "sorry about that". Okay, I did it. I went back to the Village Corner, the renowned German bakery - restaurant - pub at the top end of the historic village in Stone Mountain. And I went back for a proper meal. I looked over the lunch/brunch menu and soon knew what I wanted. It was the chicken in wine sauce. The server, who was very outgoing, told me that I had made a good choice and that she also likes this dish. The chicken was tender and flavorful, the vegetables were nicely prepared, and, for the first time in my life, I enjoyed the spaetzle. In the past, friends and neighbors from the Teutonic world (yes, growing up in Los Angeles, people could safely discuss each other's nationalities and really get into it) would prepare it and it was heavier and doughier. I wasn't convinced on spaetzle. That wasn't the case at Village Corner. The pieces were smaller, tasty, had a nice consistency ... and were quickly gone. I ordered a soft drink to go with the meal. I wanted to mention that these ladies sitting across from me were into their meals. I asked one what nicely presented platter she had ordered, and it was the jaeger schnitzel, a breaded pork loin with accompaniments, and she raved about it and said she likes to come here for that dish. The inside of the restaurant is old-school German, hence similar to eateries you might visit in Leavenworth, WA. It makes for a fun atmosphere. And, since we're at about the 34th parallel, there is also a patio to eat or drink outside. People were indeed using it. I believe that the portion was lunch sized. I was not bogged down, but I always want more food when I like what I've eaten. This isn't new. However, it seemed appropriate and made for a nice lunch. Again, I've been to the Village Corner's bakery a time or two or three, but this time it was to try the eatery for a regular meal. I'm glad I did. Perhaps a person can alternate between regular meal visits and bakery visits, because the desserts are true to form and filling. At the Village Corner, it's all good. read more

We have been here twice to eat. We have been to the bakery many times. The bakery has great bake goods! We ate at the tavern side two weeks ago. Lori got the two sausage meal and I got the Salmon with shrimp. That meal was great. The salmon was grilled perfectly and the shrimp was awesome. Lori love it. We could have eaten a double portion ( I shared). Lori said her meal was very good as well. I got some of her food. The potatoes were good and the red cabbage was good. We started off with the fried potato cakes. That was good. The service was very good. So we went to brunch the following Saturday. Last Saturday. I got the Tex Mex omelet and Lori got the apple pancakes. Very good food. We shared. We are going to return for dinner and brunch and try other items from the menu.
