Great place to have breakfast when the weather is nice. There's a great view, staff is friendly and prompt, and food is pretty good. The only issue I've ever had here is that some people come to brunch, have a few mimosas, and lose their inside voice. It's not the restaurants fault but it can be annoying. read more

I had lunch here with two girlfriends yesterday and it was a spectacular experience. The greeter as we entered the building, Angela, was cheerful and helpful and was so patient when we asked her to take photos of us. We got there early and toured the gardens...oh so beautiful! Having lunch at The Veranda is an experience. Our server, Conner, was not only knowledgeable but had a great sense of humor! My sandwich was excellent and so were the homemade potato chips that accompanied them. The desserts were heavenly as well. Set aside a day...it's a bit of a drive from most of San Diego...enjoy the gardens, take in the beauty, and embrace the slow pace of a leisurely lunch offering one of the most spectacular views around! Magical! Took my folks (in their 90's) and other family members for brunch, and to celebrate a few of our birthdays. We all could not get over the hospitality of everyone we encountered. Enthusiastically greeted by a woman in the parking lot who radioed into the restaurant to make sure our table was ready, then happily agreed to take a few family pix out front. We were seated on the veranda at a table with the most beautiful view of the heart-shaped lake and manicured lawns. All the tables are outside and have picture perfect views (maybe a dozen tables total, so reservations are a MUST!) Menu is totally reasonable ($10-14) and portions are large. Enjoyed my avocado omelet. I think they get the avocado from trees on site. After brunch they brought out 3 free little ice cream desserts with a lit candle for each person celebrating a birthday in our party. Their potatoes are the most crispy, non-oily(not kidding), most delicious French fry like morsels. Addictive! After lunch, we considered walking the tropical gardens, (discounted if you dine there) but with the 90+ degree unseasonable heat, and elderly parents, decided not to. But the GM, Dan came by and introduced himself and offered to take 5 of us on a personal garden tour via his golf-cart! My mom is still raving about it today, how lovely the experience was. His parents created this fantasy like estate, and it has only been open to the public a couple of years. They are a hidden gem, and completely worth the trip. It is a family business, and they are really passionate about treating you like a guest. I boxed up half my omelet to go, and when I got home, saw that they also put a cold bottle of water inside. Excellent brunch, excellent service and an excellent view. We had several items including the "burrito" which was fabulous. The French Toast was good, but I preferred the waffle. A side of bacon is a must. All portions were huge, but of very high quality. The mimosas were the best I've had and should not be missed. The service was very professional and just what we needed to enjoy a wonderful afternoon gazing at the beautiful lake. We have been coming to the Veranda for five years and have always been delighted with the food, but our last visit was a disappointment. 4 of us ordered Benedicts and all 4 were substantially overcooked, which ruins the whole reason for ordering Benedicts. also the potatoes were undercooked so the center was raw. I don't know what changed but a huge disappointment since it's a drive to get there. I hope they take my suggestion as I mentioned these issues before we left as the grounds are so beautiful. read more

Good food - the breakfast eggrolls and the crepe appetizers were simply AMAZING. Only 4 stars though because the service seems way too fancy. I know it's a wedding venue too, but there's too much "country club" about it. Our waitress was extremely rehearsed and it came off like she was acting. For patio seating during the lunch hour, it felt more appropriate to have more casual wait staff. They also put flowers in everything and rainbow sprinkles on the dessert which seemed too cruise ship to me. If you have great food, no need to make it fancy! Anyhoo - good spot if you're taking people who like "tradition" here. The grounds are bery nice and the view from the Beverly Manor are nice. Best suited to an older crowd though. read more

Visited this place recently. Absolutely beautiful and so peaceful to have brunch. Every seat has a spectacular view. The food was delish and I love that the prices are reasonable! Our server was very kind and gave us good food recommendations. Only hiccup was that we weren't offered a free entrance to tour the gardens. We thought we would've been offered it since we saw that our server offered the table next to us, and she charged us. It was still a good deal but wondered why she gave them and not us. The gardens were so beautiful and my daughter loved every minute of it. After walking around, we sat in a quiet shaded area and just enjoyed the view and enjoyed the quietness of it all. This is one of my local favorites. I frequent here quite often either as a personal getaway, or to have business lunch meals to have a close-out to commemorate a good business deal. I'd say, I average attendance on a quarterly basis for at least 5 years; probably longer. My last visit was a few months ago and this review is long overdue. I did notice the menu changed during COVID and I will miss the brussel sprouts appetizer (it was the best!). Location wise, I loved it. The one thing that's different than other restaurants is the availability of the manager; oftentimes I get checked in by the manager at other restaurants to see if things are going well. But this restaurant doesn't really have that. This one time, I saw a family there that I know to be unpleasant (eh hem The Grahams is what I'll call them). I understand business is business and the restaurant accepts clients of all backgrounds, but I wish there was a complaint department to ask if there was a blacklist. Or I wish I could have asked to see a manager as a courtesy. They make remarks on a personal note that qualify for EEO and work-place-violence complaints at a work/employer level. Their reputation for shouting matches in a parking lot precedes them too. I want so much to prevent a scene at such a nice establishment. I wish, I could tell the manager the potential habits of this clientele and that they are known to "send back food" (I witnessed it done at this restaurant). I wish I had a way to tell them they will lose money because the customer will send food back (at no fault of the server or cook either). Restaurant still gets a 5. They have no control over the customers that reserve to dine here. But I just wished I had a way, as a responsible returning customer, to let management know. read more

The food was truly disappointing. The beignets were very dense and tough. Hard as rocks. The service was incredibly slow. The seats are in the sun until about noon and we were very uncomfortable due to this. Yes the view is beautiful, but at the end of your meal they tell you if you want to go walk around you have to pay $2.50 per person! This is ridiculous considering we just paid for a meal. I would not recommend coming here. Just lousy food in a pretty setting. We were there for a birthday which I let them know, and they didn't do anything special or acknowledge. Sunday lunch on the veranda was exceptional food; Wellington Benedict, prime rib sandwich, avocado omelet, the breakfast egg roll appraiser was large enough for a meal excellent dish. Even thought it was quite warm this past Sunday, the veranda was pleasant, good service and nice cool drinks made for a fine brunch with friends. We had brunch here on Saturday. It is a beautiful setting, on a terrace overlooking the lake and manicured grounds. There are only 14 tables and they are only open for brunch on the weekends and lunch weekdays, so reservations are at a premium and a must have. The service was impeccable. And the food was very good. I had the arugula and berry salad and and with chicken , others in our party opted for the club sandwich on freshly made focaccia , the eggs Benedict and the Belgian waffle. Everyone was happy with their choices. We will definitely make this a must go restaurant when we have guests visiting. read more

My wife and I had lunch at the Veranda on our wedding anniversary on a picture perfect fall day in Fallbrook. We have been to the Grand Tradition for a wedding in the past so we knew what an amazingly picturesque setting this is. It's so beautiful and immaculate Walt Disney himself would have been proud to own it, no kidding. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had the BLAT sandwich with the homemade chips. My wife had the chicken sandwich. The service and the friendly welcome was just top notch, really there is nothing negative to say about the whole experience except the Red Hat ladies down at the end of the veranda could have been quieter. So that's the only reason I gave it an "loud" noise rating as a result. Get a clue girls, if you want to yell at each other do it at home. I would highly recommend eating here and spending some quality time gazing out over the pond and the gardens. It is a bit jarring to drive out of here onto South Mission Rd., like going from heaven back to reality. By the way, if you have time spend the five bucks to tour the new Compass garden. We had just got back from Hawaii on the day we visited and we were totally blown away by the unbelievable beauty of this garden. It's literally world class. My husband and I took my mom and aunt and we loved it. I had the bruschetta and loved every bit of it. My husband had the Caesar salad and loved it. We then had the estate burger and the burger was excellent. My mom had the egg roll with chicken and I tried it and it was the best egg roll I have ever had! We all agreed that it was excellent. My mom and aunt both had 1/2 of a club and they really liked it. For dessert we had the lemon cake, Carmel cake and the torte. All were great! The service was great. No glass went empty and very attentive staff. Manager on duty checked on us as well. The view is amazing! All in all it was a great lunch and we will be going back. read more

Our first time visiting the garden. Very beautiful and clean! Ample parking and the service was wonderful! The food was 4 stars. The coffee and orange juice was really good. We had the kids share the French toast. There's a $2.50 charge for splitting a meal. I opted to split the food myself and the waitress offered to bring an extra plate to avoid the split fee. You can check out the garden and walk around for $2.50 if you had a meal at the restaurant. Otherwise it's $6 or $7 to walk the grounds. They have kids menu and coloring pages. Heating lamps outside which was a nice touch. Our reservation was 9am and was a bit cold. Would definitely come back again and try other items on the menu. read more

We've been to The Veranda a handful of times and each time its been very pleasant. Service is very important to my husband and I and then the food. When you arrive at the mansion there is always someone out front to help you find your way. She checks you in as reservations are usually required and then shows you in. You are seated outside and have a beautiful view of the lake and there is a nice relaxing breeze that comes thru making for a really relaxing experience. The wait staff has always been very nice and quick to serve, accommodating as well. We love the food and wine. The fruits and vegetables are always fresh and ripe and the meals are cooked perfectly. There really isn't any downside to dining here. It's a must try! read more

I couldn't say anything bad about this place. The grounds are so beautiful and the staff are very friendly. They bought us a round of champaign to tell my mother that we are getting married and let us what the grounds for free. Jason did a wonderful job bring us everything we needed. Food was very good as well, it was comfort with elegance... U can't go wrong with that. Out 3rd visit here to eat..decided to take my daughter for her last lunch before she leaves for Air Force bootcamp on Monday. First time for lunch on a weekday. Have reservations for 1pm... Got here at 12:30 and checked in with the front desk. It's already 1:20 and out table is still not ready. Not good when we drove an hour and a half to get here to eat lunch and everyone is hungry. We ate brunch here in a weekend a couple of times and had no problem with getting our table in time. Other than that,the estate is as always, a beautiful setting. Just a little annoyed that we're still sitting here waiting on our table 20 minutes after our reserved time. We just want to eat lunch!!! read more

I do believe it's made to order so don't expect to order and receive your food pronto, but you wouldn't want it to anyway...you want to soak in the view, slow down a bit, and relax! Once the food did show up it was nice and warm and delicious! I got the chicken cordon Bleu sandwich and my hubby got the turkey club! Both delicious! As well as our sides; potato salad and soup!
