Those of you who read my reviews know how much I strongly value customer service, and I received dynamic customer service at this store. I came to have items shredded, shipped, as well as to buy shipping boxes, and when I entered, I noticed both Scotty and his co-worker greeting customers by their names. This is important to me because it shows that they have a loyal customer base, speaking to their level of service. Scotty walked me through the process of shredding (I've never done this outside of my office), and assisted me with my boxes. He was also incredibly friendly, and didn't seem the least bit annoyed when the almost 10 lbs of paper I had fell out of my bag and onto the floor. Since I bought so many boxes, Scotty suggested I make a couple trips to my car and held the boxes in-store until I returned. He also, like a true gentleman, helped me with the door as I made my final exit. I like to go where "everybody knows your name", so I'll definitely return to this UPS Store location. UPS is my favorite mailing service and this location is my favorite UPS in the area. Customer service here is stellar--friendly, helpful, and efficient. Note: they also take in USPS packages (and I trust them much more with them than the actual USPS office across the street). There is also a notary public on premises until 4 pm who provides his services without an appointment. I've been to this UPS location many times with mailing, printing, and photocopying experience and have always been very happy with the service I received. I went in today with a very complicated set of orders, including one that required a notary, and was left feeling very relieved with how easy the process turned out to be. I am writing to express my gratitude to Adam and Rich for their assistance at the UPS store at 4200 Wisconsin Ave NW. A little context: I came to their store with a large package that I intended to ship to Italy. The gentleman informed me about size restrictions on international shipping. Then, they told me that their competitor would be more affordable for my particular needs. They let me disassemble my large box, and then they repackaged the contents into multiple small boxes for a reasonable price. Adam and Rich allowed me to carry my boxes over one by one to a nearby competitor to ship from there. All in all, I spent several hours occupying a section of their store. This store is great for fast service. But the manager, a big guy who has been there quite a while, consistently is rude: it's as if he needs to complain about some aspect, however small, of how you are shipping; how you give your address, etc. The rest of the staff, particularly a gent with an Irish (?) are lovely, but the manager needs to figure out that "service industry" means that courtesy includes him: his attitude is enough to ruin anyone's day. read more

These people are the nastiest rudest people ever. Their goal is to NOT help you. They make up their own rules, when returning items they say oh it has to be packed. Oh you have to print the label. Even if your email confirmation says otherwise. Super rude and it seems like they don't give a crap about helping anyone. Someone I know went for a notary and the employee was so irritated at the notary paragraph block saying it wasn't "standard" so he wasn't signing the document I'm a standard way and scribbled out his signature. After going to the UPS on M street, it was a pleasure to return to this UPS store on Wisconsin ave. I went there a few days ago to buy a box and pay for shipping. Pros: 1) I always find parking right across the street on 39th, there's that odd little triangle there and it always has spots. The UPS store is literally right across the street from here. 2) The people are are friendly, professional, competent, and efficient. I'm in and out of here quickly, always. 3) They never frown or make me buy tape for pre-paid packages, as the place on M and 21st did the other day. 4) my bank is nearby and so is the pet store I use, and tenley circle is right up the street so whole foods, restaurants, etc. are right there. Cons: Well, the traffic on wisconsin ave during busy times of the day can be very slow and dc always seem to be doing construction along wisconsin somewhere. read more

Blonde woman at front counter rude and extremely unhelpful. They don't carry regular UPS envelopes and basically told me too bad and "buy one". Not a big deal, but she was so obnoxious and catatonic that I decided to go to FedEx instead. Guess what, they had envelopes and took my money with a smile and thank you. Why are these UPS stores always so poorly run and insanely miserly? Last time I was here , these idiots tried to make be buy an entire roll of tape because I needed one inch of tape to close a tiny gap. I left a custom printing order with the manager in early June, and was told it would take a few weeks. I checked in three weeks later, five weeks later, and seven weeks later; no one ever called me to give me updated information or to say there was a problem, and a message I left wasn't returned. Finally, after almost two months, I called again and the manager told me he was having trouble completing the job. I wasted almost two months on this before cancelling. A bunch of us were sitting in front of the store on Sunday waiting for it to open. The sign on the door like the sign in Google maps said it opens 11 AM. That didn't happen. I called the store around 1 o'clock in the afternoon and the person who answered said they open at 12 noon on Sundays and the information online hasn't been updated. Location has always come through for me and I appreciate the convenience and (mostly) fast and friendly customer service as well as the card collection mentioned in another review. ONE caveat - I took some papers there for shredding and would NOT recommend using them for that (that is the only thing I wouldn't recommend). The cost was crazy - you pay by the pound - and you have to put the papers in yourself, small fistful at a time. I paid over $50 for the pleasure of emptying a large bag of papers. A gentleman who works there helped me put the papers through the slot (covering the locked container) that is the same kind of arrangement most offices have for confidential documents. However, it seemed really onerous and time-consuming to stand there feeding the shred container and my papers were partly on display as we were handling them. I was trying to avoid a trip to the DC transfer station which does free shredding once a month - would not do this again at the UPS store. read more

Had a really unpleasant interaction with an unprofessional and sarcastic staff member and a defensive and unhelpful store manager. I won't be going back. The short story: I had to return a package to Amazon after its UPS delivery went astray. The package appeared almost a month after it was erroneously reported as delivered and long after Amazon had already refunded my purchase price. When it eventually showed up, I thought the right thing to do would be to return it. Amazon emailed me a shipping label to return it, but I didn't have a printer at home. I assumed it would be easy enough for the UPS Store to print the label out so I walked the box down there. Not so much. An employee directed me to a computer terminal that charged $2.95 a minute to print the label. I didn't have my wallet with me and when I asked if I could simply send the return-label email from my phone for the store to print, she said sure, but she'd "charge me just the same." Leaving aside the fact that I didn't have my wallet, I didn't really feel like paying. After all, I'd already gotten a refund when UPS failed to deliver the package. I figured it was at least worth asking the manager if there was any way he could help. He said no with a sort of gratuitous defensiveness that struck me as a little unbalanced and odd, before telling me, in approximate order: -"thousands of people ask the store to do the same thing every day" (I'm not sure there are even tens of people that come into the store every day. And I don't really care what "thousands of people do.") -it wasn't his problem that UPS hadn't delivered the package before and therefore not his responsibility to help because the store is a franchise. (That may be true, but again, the structure of the store's business relationship with UPS "corporate" didn't really matter to me. And besides, as he acknowledged, it wouldn't cost the store anything to help out.) - the store "only makes a few cents" on packages it ships. (That could be true but also isn't really relevant to me.) - that my problem wasn't with the UPS Store but instead with Amazon. (In point of fact, my "problem" wasn't really with anyone. I'd already gotten a refund weeks ago.) I know isn't the UPS Store's technical responsibility to do anything to make up for UPS' delivery mistake or to facilitate Amazon's getting the misdelivered product back when it did eventually appear. But all of that just sort of missed the point. The real issue is that with no difficulty or cost at all the employee and manager of the store could have simply helped. Along the way they could have made someone's day a little bit easier and garnered some goodwill with a potential future customer. There wasn't another soul in the store and there were three people behind the counter and it would have cost them nothing. So, yeah, it's not that they had any obligation to do anything helpful or kind at all. But that doesn't mean they couldn't have. I live in the neighborhood, but the next time I have to send something, I'll go out of my way to give someone else my business. read more

This is a pretty decent place to send a package, I guess. UPS' rates are the same regardless of which store, so you're gonna have to pay a pretty penny. The staff at this location is quite friendly and they look out for the customer, not the store's or UPS' bottom line. The guy who packed up my computer (and monitor, keyboard etc) packed it all into one box so that it'd be a bit cheaper than shipping the computer and monitor separately. The only drag about this place is parking. It's pretty much non-existent save for the few spaces in front of the store. That's fine if you are shipping something small, but when you have to lug about 50lbs of things you want to be as close as you can to the store. Thankfully I snagged a parking spot right in front and had no problem! Also a few tips: when they pack your stuff, they seem to quote you first for the shipping cost and THEN add in the cost of boxes and stuff. My items cost only $50 to ship but then it was another $25 for all the materials. My advice? Save the boxes and peanuts and bubble wrap when you order things online! Also, if you're packing your own stuff, try to use a box size proportional to what you're shipping. That is, if you're just shipping a camera get a small box and just wrap the item well in bubble wrap. read more

In the past when I've dropped stuff off at UPS I can usually drop them on a side counter and be on my way. Well, apparently not at this location. I came in and very friendly said "hi! The customer service was very good. But I am concerned about the conditions in the store. I believe more should be done to protect the workers and customers from Covid-19. There is no plexiglass up to separate the workers from the customers and though I am glad everyone had their masks on when I came in, I would like to see more done to protect the people in your store. read more

I've gone here multiple times for packaging, passport photos, and dropping off returns and have never had an issue! The staff is friendly, courteous, and nice, especially in comparison to the USPS post office across the street. I would highly recommend them for passport photos, they let me see the photo on the camera and do retakes before printing. (We had some issues because of my shirt color.) read more
