Great to work with!! I am currently working with The Printer to print products for my wedding and for my small business. I couldn't be happier. They have clear cut solutions to my questions, easy choices. Their fees for graphic design work are quite reasonable. The shop is located on a busy corner near Adams Morgan (I think, I'm not great with neighborhood boundaries in DC.) It's filled with a mix of old printing presses and new copiers. They have one chair to sit in for people who are waiting. All the other space is work space. That's the kind of people I like to work with: a small local business that is doing high quality work and is all about the work!! They know what they are doing. They have been doing it for a while. I was scrambling to get a print job done, and didn't want to be paying the exorbitant prices that places tend to charge for a decent double-sided full-color job. When I called over, they had me send in my print documents via email, and asked what kind of paper I wanted for the prints. I wasn't sure, so she told me to drop in and choose one, and that she would take care of things fairly quickly. When I got to the place, I felt like I had stepped into a printing shop that knew what they were doing. There was paper everywhere, vintage presses, modern printers, and almost a palpable presence of quality. I got a chance to feel each type of paper that she recommended for the job, chose one, and she ran off a first copy for me to verify and okay. The quality was wonderful, and the printing was unbelievably fast. I was in and out of the place with a decent number of prints in the time it takes to get a drink at starbucks. Wendy is absolutely the best! I designed my own wedding invites in Photoshop, but I needed a professional to print them on the right paper to get the look I wanted (and to not have them look like DIY invites). I visited her store twice to look at sample papers and how each type held the ink. She was extremely patient with me and gave great recommendations to keep my costs down and to get the best quality product. The invites came out beautifully and at less than half the cost of Etsy, Zazzle, or Minted. I had also asked her to order some different color cardstock so I could fold some paper flowers. She ordered it and handed me a stack...and I don't even think she charged me anything additional for it. I returned to have my programs and escort cards done...didn't even have to go in this time. I just told her what I needed in an email with the zipped files, and she knew exactly which paper to use and what settings to use to get the color right. I cannot say enough about Wendy's expertise and professionalism throughout. You will not be disappointed...she is honest, fair, and a real pleasure to work with. I cannot say enough about the positive experience I had with The Printer. I just picked up our wedding invitations from Wendy and they look incredible. Wendy is so helpful and so easy to work with! We had to do some color correction and get several proofs. Wendy was patient as we worked through the various stages. Ginnefine, the designer, did a great job of working with artwork that my friend created. She made some changes and kept me informed throughout the entire process. And when we finally got it right the job was finished in 3 days. The best part of the whole experience? The price! Their prices are incredibly reasonable. I got quotes from Kinkos, Paper-Source, and several other places that were two and three times the price I was charged here. I would definitely recommend The Printer and use them again for other print jobs. Planning a wedding can be stressful at times. I said that was fine; however, I have not received any quotes even though I have emailed her a follow-up email asking for the status of the project. No email or phone call. I thought that I would receive good service due to the five-star reviews but when you get no response from a company that you mailed items to, you get one-star from me. I've just picked up my wedding invitations from Wendy at The Printer, and I am thrilled with them!! I fully agree with the reviewers below--Wendy is incredibly pleasant and easy to work with, and she has been very responsive and patient to the number of tweaks and last-minute changes I had to the invitations. For my purposes, I really could not have found a better place in DC to get my invitations printed. They were significantly less expensive than some of the frou-frou wedding stationers I also looked at, they looked classy and professional, AND I got to support a great local business in my neighborhood! I took a DIY approach to my wedding invitations--I made the design for the exterior and we worked together on the inside text and Wendy also did some photoshopping and design on the image and text. So if you're a DIY bride, this is a particularly awesome place to work with. I am not one of those people that normally writes reviews; I generally kind of assume that good customer service and high quality work should be the norm, even though I am often disappointed. That said, I had to write this because Wendy and the Printer provided such fantastic customer service and incredibly well-done work, she far exceeded even my expectations. My now-husband and I worked with Wendy on three separate print jobs over about 4-5 months in preparation for our wedding. The first was our folder invitation--designed by someone on Etsy, and consisting of an invitation plus four graduated inserts with a continuously linked design that went from insert to insert, and that were all precisely arranged in a tri-fold folder--save the date cards, and envelopes. The nature and layout of the invitation required that the inserts and the invite be precisely cut and that the inks match really well, otherwise it would just look sloppy. I knew the kind of invitation that I wanted, but I did not appreciate how complicated it would be to execute until I already had my heart set on it. Wendy just made it happen, and exactly as I pictured! From my first "cold" phone call to her to ask questions and get a price estimate, to nailing down the specifics of fonts and color and cuts, to the carefully packaged final product she provided exactly on time, Wendy was professional and polite and exacting at every step. Everyone loved our invitations--seriously, people called and texted to say how beautiful they were. The second and third print jobs were even easier experiences. Wendy also printed invitations and envelopes for a post-wedding celebration we had planned for additional guests, wedding programs, menus, place cards, table numbers...everything we needed. And all of it exactly what and how we needed, with no fuss or drama. When (as most weddings do, I've been told) we started to hit our budget as we got closer to the wedding date, Wendy worked with us to make the print jobs less expensive without sacrificing quality. She worked with our schedules when it came to picking up the products and when we needed some items with less lead time than I would have liked to have given her. Because of our schedules, we couldn't always make it to the shop, so Wendy worked with us via phone and email to get the jobs done, and always answered emails and returned calls promptly. In all instances, she was respectful, accommodating, and professional...and her work was literally perfect. By nature, I am pretty detail-oriented and inclined to double check things, but I actually got to the point with the second and third print jobs where I didn't even worry about it. I sent Wendy the files and she printed exactly what I sent her and exactly the way we wanted it. I completely trusted her judgment, and she never disappointed. For all of you who have ever planned a wedding (or any other significant event in your life), you know now what I didn't fully realize in the beginning of this process: it's complicated, it involves an incredible number of moving parts, and the quality of customer service provided by your vendors can literally make your life easier, or make you want to scrap it all and elope! Working with Wendy was honestly the least stressful part of the whole process. In addition, printing can be prohibitively expensive, but Wendy's prices were very competitive, and I would say more than reasonable considering the quality of her work and the consistency of her wonderful customer service. I found out about Wendy and The Printer via a Yelp review, so I am glad to let other people know how happy we were with our decision.
