Tonight I was helped by Gift. He was truly a Godsend. I had a complex job of multiple printed items and faxed documents. I'm currently a furloughed government worker so any act of kindness is greatly appreciated. He handled my print and fax job professionally and with a smile. Great customer service goes a long way. Compared to FedEx the UPS Store is by far better in reasonable prices and services. Each time I visit I'm greeted warmly and the customer service is impeccable. The hours are convenient and you can handle business from copies, fax, scanned documents, shipping/mailing items, and post office (P.O. Boxes) with a real street address. I would recommend this UPS Store to anyone seeking great prices to take care of your business and personal needs. read more

I have made my last visit to this store! I brought my taped up box into the store and noticed that there was about 1" of space that needed to be taped just to make it a little more secure. I was told that I would have to pay $5 for that little piece of tape. Of course I refused and then I was told that I had to sign a paper relieving UPS of responsibility should something go wrong because of my 1" of untaped area! The man that helped me was rude. This is not a good way to keep customers. Fortunately, I have found a wonderfully run store on Bel Pre Rd in Plaza Del Mercado. This store is extremely professional and treat their customers with respect. I asked if I needed a little tape would they make me pay for it and the response was "of course not!" Weird parking lot, very nice staff. I had been dreading taking my too-small Sperry Topsiders to UPS for return to the company. What was I worried about? I guess I thought it would be like the post office, long lines and limited service. Wrong! The girl was super nice and even taped my package shut for me. UPS Stores are franchises. If Kevin Lim owns the franchise, he should be deeply embarrassed by his behavior. If he doesn't, he needs a long talking-to, or perhaps another job. Customer in front of me was misquoted his order - the box he was quoted isn't available any more and the choice he had to take was 5 dollars more. He expected the store to honor their original quote, and in most other situations like this I've been in, they would have. Not Mr Lim. He got into a heated debate with the customer, blamed the other employees, called the customer "a wrong customer", then hid behind not being a native English speaker to justify his behavior. Insulted the customer. He goes away, the two guys working the counter manage to salvage the situation, and are working through handling the guy's order. Lim comes back, reinserts himself, literally pushes the guy who was getting things done out of the way, saying "he's just a trainee" (tho note that the other guy at the counter was not), and starts insulting and p-ing off the customer, again. Rude. Stubborn. Arrogant. Stupid. UPS should care more about the behavior of their franchisees. I mean, it wasn't even my issue, and I was uncomfortable and annoyed. I won't be taking my business back there - there are other shipping storefronts in driving distance. You shouldn't take your business there either. read more

Usually quick enough getting in and out w authorized return drop offs. They will price gouge you on the price of incidental items should you, say, need a bit of tape for affixing a label or such...I guess it's store policy to not allow such help as a courtesy. Re: banners and signs. You can find MUCH better prices elsewhere (and customer service too)! Went with Fedex at 706 Rockville Pike. Staples was also a very good option. Last year was in need of a large banner and signs. Worked up a product on the UPS website. Turned out the cost was more at the Olney store than was showing before entering this as the pickup/print location. Called UPS corprate and was told each store could set their own price for printing services. read more

I made an effort to find this UPS store recently because I have had such great service at so many other UPS stores. I got my business completed there but it was not a happy experience. The person behind the counter definitely exhaled a strong odor of alcohol from his previous night's entertainment. He was tired and had no energy. And he asked his 'clerk' questions that HE should have known. The store was empty and had none of the usual UPS merchandise. Such a disappointment. I wont return there unless desperate. I am a regular customer at the Olney UPS Store and am impressed with their customer service, friendliness, and professionalism (that can be difficult to do when dealing with the public because at times people are just downright rude). Recently I went in to check my box for mail, mask on of course these days, and Sergio recognized me as we exchanged pleasantries, saying "Hey I have something for you." He went in the back and came right back with a letter that hadn't been put into my box! That was amazing to me since he somehow not only recognized me despite the mask, but he also knew my name and box number....and to point out the obvious he went out of his way to get a letter that wasn't yet in my box. Everyone in this UPS store is helpful, pleasant and willing to take time to make sure my packages are secured and shipped as efficiently as possible. Every package I have shipped from there arrived when they said it would. Employees tried to help as best they can, but are not well trained. Asked for simple reduction of picture in color. The end result was a picture that was off center and had a line running through it. When I was there the store also had a couple of large vacuums and cords in the corner taking up the space of about an entire copier. It seemed very dirty. I don't plan to return. I tried dropping off a package that was all taped up, labeled and set to go, and they refused to take it because it was in a shoebox. When my husband and I needed a notary and overnight shipping at the last minute John was incredibly helpful. We walked into the store around 5:00 and he took care of us immediately. We had documents emailed to him and he printed and notarized them and overnighted them efficiently and with great friendliness Definitely will use this store again. read more

Sent a package before Christmas. Had it insured. This location cannot seem to have the knowledge or desire to turn in my claim. I have spoken with managers, employees, the elusive owner. They have every thing they need to file the claim, they just don't seem to care. I have cause them in so many lies. I cannot understand how they are able to function with a UPS brand. You can only hope for the best during the Christmas season when it comes to customer service, especially with my experiences at the US Post Office at this time of year. I was pleasantly surprised to find the staff at The UPS Store upbeat when most employees at other stores are seriously worn out from the season. I have relatives throughout the US and the thing I dread most about Christmas is shipping the presents. Even though the store was completely packed when I visited it this morning, I had close to immediate assistance with upwards of 10 packages. The staff was very helpful in getting me in and out of the store and back on the road. I would highly recommend this location to anyone that wants to avoid long lines and unpleasant employees at the post office. I received an item from Amazon in its retail box with no problems with the delivery. I needed to return it and Amazon gave instruction on the handling and packaging of the return which I followed. At UPS store an employee working at the 3470 Olney - Laytonville Rd Olney, MD 20832 UPS location, began to lecture me about the packaging of the item. I told him that this was the method and instructions by Amazon. He then went on to rudely tell me that if it ships this way, I would be liable if the package was damaged in transit. I told him that I would not be liable and I was following Amazon's instruction and he then began to argue and lecture me that I would. He clearly does not know the law of chain of custody. After it is out of my hands, I cannot be responsible for the damage and mishandling the item. I have seen the same rude person lecture and argue with other customers. And they clearly told him that this is the way it was shipped to them and was the same way they were instructed to send it back. He needs to be fired!!!! read more

Is this store under new management? It has become VERY dishonest!!! I have been going to this UPS store for more than 5 years - for packaging, shipping, faxing, notary, etc. I have always had good service there. But I went today to mail a small bag of clothes to my college son in Florida. I was told that a box would be $17. I thought that was pretty high, but that was nothing. I was told that 2 day air (for 5 articles of clothing to Florida) would be $84.00!!! For a total of $101! Of course I left, and went to the post office. There, the box was free, and I sent my package Priority Mail (2 days) for $11.45. That's a difference in price for the exact same service of $90!!! $90!!!! Of course actual UPS does not charge anywhere near this ridiculous pricing. I calculate that this store is marking up about 500% over their costs. I believe I'll notify UPS. Oh and BTW: Guy who was charged because you were told that the staff would have to re-tape your 2 boxes? Yeah, they retaped nothing... they just tossed your boxes directly into the bins to go on the truck, and laughed. Don't be hoodwinked, Olney friends! I would avoid this place at all costs and if you have to go, please watch as they pack up your box and maybe you should use cash. I wouldn't trust the employees here as far as you can throw them. read more

DON'T GO TO THE OLNEY UPS STORE FOR SHREDDING! I just went to the UPS store in Olney to get some documents shredded. I have done this twice before, and each time the person who helped me placed my papers in a locked bin while I was there. Today, after I paid, the salesperson took my bags (3) of paper and placed them behind the counter. The store was busy, so I stepped outside for a few minutes, and when I came into the store, the manager/owner, John Lim, asked what I was waiting for. I told him I wanted the container bags in which I brought my documents so that I could use them again. So, he dumped my papers in a store container (several pieces fell on the floor) and left them there. I told him that I wanted to see the documents placed in a secure bin. He told me, loudly, that no one was going to look at or steal my information! "I'm too busy now, and you can either put your papers in the bin yourself or you can take them home! I'll give you your money back.!" I was shocked at John Lim's outburst! I don't care how busy he was, I didn't deserve to be treated so poorly. His behavior was offensive and bumbling. (Reading the reviews, I see from other comments that it is not so unusual for Mr. Lim and his employees to treat consumers rudely.) The very purpose of taking my financial documents to be shredded is to feel confident that, in this technological age, no one can steal my personal information. Mr. Lim needs to be reminded that shredding is a service that targets identity theft and should not be handled carelessly. I should have been told at the outset that they were too busy to take care of my request in a timely manner, and I could either leave my documents or come back at another time. I packed up my documents and took them to FedEx where the price was the same and the service exemplary! read more

Should have known. I try to give businesses time to correct bad customer service. I had bad, rude service before. Went back for a package drop off and it was good. Just sent my daughter to drop off a box to ship (already paid for online) and the agent was beyond rude. Refused to take a box wrapped in brown paper. My daughter offered to take the brown paper off and was told it had to be a plain brown box. The woman was completely unhelpful and a bad representative for UPS. Never again. read more

I have been to quite a few UPS stores around the country and this one is by far the worst. The manager is rude and they charge way more than they should. For example, I had to get a notary done and he charged me for each signature on the page so the notary ended up being twice as much as expected. Every other UPS store I have been to only charges per stamp/page. I told him this and he insisted that I was wrong for thinking this because he "has been doing notaries this way since [he] was 16." Bottom line? This business will do whatever they can to rip you off and then insist that you are the crazy one for thinking you were charged too much. Stay far away from this place. read more

Today, I went it and noticed new staff was present. My regular guy was not there and I paused to get started. Right away I was greeted by Peter and asked if he could help. I had some copies to make and needed to send out a package. He told me to come over to the island so I can spread out my work. We opened my folder and noticed the copies I needed were separated and stapled together by month. Peter right away grabed a staple remover and asked if I needed everything re- stapled. When he told me it was no extra charge and he would do it for me I was very grateful. While we made the copies we chatted and he explained the owners opened a new office and some staffing changes had occurred. Customer service businesses should take notice. The business owners of this UPS location should be proud to know their business is well managed as they would if they were present.
