Having to ship a large fragile electronic item is a scary proposition, especially without the original shipping box. The manager, the employee who created a new shipping container for this item were super helpful, confident, and professional. They understood how ebay under estimates shipping & packaging costs for sellers (a disappointment and learning experience). Not impressed with this location. The staff was not helpful. I wanted to ship my television and the said its a 60/30 chance (yes, I realize that does not add up to 100) of making it there intact. and I should feel "lucky" if it does. I shipped a valuable vintage guitar with this store and there was unfortunately a minor issue - a pickup selection knob was slightly bent - because they packed it too well! They quickly took care of paying for the whole repair and sent me a check for the entire repair cost and my guitar is just fine now. Zach was very helpful and quick to be of service. I have used this place for almost two years and some of their staff can be frustrating yet I have seen some big improvements. Of course there were a few that were always on it. Their fees are consistent with other shipping services especially with all the federal and corporate guidelines they have to follow. I went in to ship a pair of pants to my son and asked if they had the USPS flat-rate envelopes and the guy said "a few". He would not show me what he had but suggested a flat-rate box for $9.00. "The US postal service WILL NOT FORWARD YOUR MAIL from this UPS store once you cancel your mail box here. You have to get the UPS staff to forward your mail, which they did not do for me. I had bills coming I didn't know about that were repeatedly returned to sender. For about 4-5 months, they did not forward one piece of mail. I lost mail, magazines and bills. At the end of the time period, they sent me 3 pieces of junk mail. Horrible experience. I had given them my credit card to forward my mail and they didn't do it. Very disappointed. Plus, I didn't know the USPS would not forward mail from a UPS store. Lesson learned. read more

Terrible experience - witnessed a smirk by an employee get escalated into a full-on profanity yelling match between 3 employees and 2 customers. Was the most ridiculous loss of control over customer service - could have easily been resolved with a simple apology by the employee. F-bombs were thrown back and forth. I use this place often for delivering packages. And when My kiddo was really young the manager ( Dennis) would run out to the car and grab a package from me and so I wouldn't have to disrupt my sleeping baby. Dennis is always very friendly and fast. ( and super knowledgeable) I have dealt with other employees at this store also and they are always fast and pleasant as well. But today Dennis was exceptionally nice, He went above and beyond to help me locate a Package I had dropped off there an hour earlier with another employee. I didn't put a packing slip inside... fearful I would not get my refund for the 2 returned items with only 1 tag , I asked him to do the impossible and find a needle in the hay stack and he came through!!!! he worked with the details I could give him to find the package and add the extra label inside. Thank you Dennis you just saved me $150!! :) I will not forget it! And next time I am unsure I'll make sure to wait around and ask for you specifically:) thanks for saving the day! read more

The guys that work here are rude, sarcastic, negative and inattentive. I'm not sure what the deal is, but they apparently don't like their jobs or their customers. Steer clear. They have out a bowl of mints, but if your kid takes one, they will say something sarcastic to him. If you give them an e-mail address to add to a shipping record, they will NOT add it, but they won't tell you they didn't. After having a terrible experience with the UPS delivery system, I had given up and accepted my package had been sent back even though it was their mistake, and my sister had lost her money sending it. All six customer agents I spoke with told me I could try calling the UPS Store that shipped it, but told me the stores were franchises, had nothing to do with delivery once shipped, and probably wouldn't be able to do much. I was not expecting this store to do anything when I called and couldn't even blame them. However, to my surprise and gratitude a man named Harry listened to my situation and offered to re-send my package. He ate the cost of re-shipping caused by a failure in the delivery system that neither he nor his store had anything to do with. This was handled with such kindness, decency, class and professionalism. I was so surprised and grateful, especially after my experience with the delivery system. Dude. The staff here are absolute rock stars. HILARIOUS yet professional. I purposefully take my shipping business here (even though it's not the cheapest) because the atmosphere is awesome. It actually brightens my day to come to the UPS on S Lamar. Will do again and again. The overall rating on Yelp for this store is deceivingly low, since it's the best experience i've EVER had with a shipping service. I actually look forward to days where I need to ship something so that I can visit these guys. I even ship things unnecessarily to random addresses just to have the opportunity to interact with the staff at UPS on S Lamar. Just kidding. One time, there was a regional manager on site (and older guy) who absolutely killed the vibe. He really annoyed me, and his underlings - i could tell they were hating it. The people working are always patient with my process, suggesting the cheapest packaging and cheapest rates. have frequented this location and every time I have received terrible customer service. The main two employees at this location - one skinny brown haired Caucasian man and an older heavy set white haired Caucasian man are the most rude people I have ever experienced in my life. Today (out of the many, many times I've been here) I went to drop off a package and the skinny man was already helping a customer so I tried to talk to the other man and the skinny man goes, "Look at my face when you talk to me. The other guy is busy right now." I was so stunned at what he said to me and told him that it is unacceptable to talk to a customer like that and he started accusing me of yelling at the other employee. Thankfully another customer was in the store and with an astonished look on her face she said, "she wasn't yelling." When I told them I ship out all my packages via UPS the older employee looked at me and said, " We're not OWNED by UPS, this is a private business so we're not UPS employees." When I said that he still shouldn't be talking to customers like that he cut me off in the middle of my sentence and proceeded into saying, "We'll let the owner know." Leaving the store the other customer in the store told me that she's experienced poor service in the past and after she saw what happened today she will go out of her way to visit another location. She couldn't believe how the employees talked to me. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced such terrible customer service at this location. I have filed a complaint with the UPS corporate office's Store complaint line. I strongly believe in customer service and believe that every business should hold itself to high standards when offering a service and I think people should complain when they are treated like this. Wow! This place is truly terrible. I had a PREPAID return label emailed to me from my company as I always do. Every ups store I've ever been to just gives me their email address so they can print the label out and off I go. No charge of course...my company has already paid the shipping charge. This guy charged me $3.00 and said that it was for printing out the label and he was going to tape it up better for me..??? It was perfectly sealed!! Didn't need to be 'taped up better'. When I told him that I had NEVER been charged for this service before he said - Well..all the other UPS stores call his store to see what they are doing to remain SO successful. What?? I had a poor experience here many years ago, but it is so close to my house I thought I'd try again. Awful service. Unhelpful and disorganized. It is worth the time and gas to drive down to the UPS store on Wm Cannon and MoPac where you are greeted with a smile and aren't required to fill out paperwork for information stored in the UPS computer system. "WE ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH UPS" This seems to be their mantra, proudly repeated at higher volume levels if you didn't hear it right the first time. My bad experience began more than 3 years ago, when I was attempting to return Uverse equipment. ATT sent me a return box and label and supposedly all that I needed to do was drop it at a UPS location. Easier said than done. The people I dealt with were rude and condescending, and made it clear that they made little to nothing on this process and therefore didn't really care to make any efforts in regard to it. I left the store frustrated and annoyed. I arranged for UPS to pick the package up hassle free, and that was that. My next experience was almost a year later. Last summer, 2012. Once again, a return package through UPS. I was conveniently emailed a return label, was told to tape it to the box, and drop it at a UPS pick-up location. Easy-peasy. I went in to drop off, and the young man behind the counter (I say young man because there was also an older man with long gray hair, as well) yells at me that I need to go wait in the other line. Oops. Okay. So I stand in line grumbling to myself a little bit. And he says, "What are you saying??" And I say that his customer service could use some work. He says, You don't have to come here! You can leave!" O_O "Excuse me," I say, "I am not going anywhere, I came to mail this package.." He says, "You need to leave or I'll call the police!" Ehem. At this point, I am flabbergasted. Never in my life has anyone tried to kick me out of their retail establishment, much less threatened to call the police. All the while, the older man is chiming in and goading the younger one on. An older woman then intervened, I guess a manager, and sent him to the back, where he paced in tight circles, staring me down and making angry gestures until I left (which was not right away). The woman apologized, and took care of my package. Needless to say, I was not pleased. I lodged a complaint with The UPS Store (they are not UPS, they'll tell you too), and swore never to go back again. About 6 months ago, I needed to mail another package through UPS. I had some errands to run up in north Austin, so I stopped by the 183 location. They were polite. They even printed up my label for me with a "no problem". It was nice. But, I live in south Austin. And this store is very close to me. So, today I needed to mail a package. Ehem. "It's been a year," I think, "Surely things are improved." So, I figure I'll give it a shot. My printer is out of ink so I couldn't print a label at home, but hey, they did it for me up north with a "no problem" even. I walk in. A bored looking fellow walks up. I say I have a package to mail, but I don't have a label. He says, "We're not affiliated with UPS." I say, "Can you print a label for me?" He says (yep, you guessed it), "We're not affiliated with UPS."... "Okay... How can I mail this package?" "You can fill out one of those forms there and pay for it." At this point, I know better, I'm not going to argue. I turn around and say that I will not be coming back. And this time I assure you I mean it. If you are "Not affiliated with UPS" as you are so fond of saying there (it was also declared more than once on my previous visits), then STOP USING THEIR NAME. It's in bright shiny letters over your store! I have always had great experiences using UPS. The name implies a level of quality service that is not demonstrated by these individuals. They should change their name to "Dick's Last Resort Packaging". Maybe some folks would be into that. It is certainly not my cup of tea. I've been in service for 20 years. I would have been fired from any job for treating customers that way. More importantly, now that I am self employed, my customers would LEAVE me and tell everyone they know about their experience. I don't really understand how a franchise owned company could allow for this sub-par service to continue for so long, and after so many complaints. This third bad experience for me was enough to waste my time calling UPS themselves and telling them they should be embarrassed to have their good name tarnished by these troglodytes. As well as the UPS Store Complaints (Again. And, apparently they PURGE complaints yearly???). As well as finally writing this "beaming" Yelp review. I recommend that you do not go to this store unless you like being talked down to. The Office Depot right up the street apparently takes UPS packages. I plan to go there from now on. read more

The guy working there told me I had to tape up my package outside on the sidewalk b/c UPS has been sued by people who cut themselves using their own tape dispenser inside the store. Yep, you read that right. So there I am taping up my package on the sidewalk outside the store. PS - I was using a standard tape dispenser. Why I didn't go somewhere else is beyond me. I guess I had already drove myself there and just wanted to get this task done. About a year later I decided to give them another shot, partly b/c this place is near my house and partly b/c I was sure that guy didn't work there anymore. Yet again, a bad experience. The guy actually turned the lights off when I walked in, then went and checked the lock on the front door, then barked at me that he could only do drop offs. Forget it. This time I walked the hell out of there and will NEVER GO BACK. My dignity is worth a drive to a different location. I work really hard and these weirdos don't deserve my business or yours. read more
