On a Tuesday evening the restaurant was busy so I chose to sit at the bar which was about half occupied. I thought the bartender was coming to greet me but instead slammed a bottle of whiskey in front of me, huffed and turned away. I was not greeted or evened acknowledged by this person. I would rate this place as "no stars" but Yelp wouldn't let me. The facility does not have the internal capacity to handle its size. Looked like it was run by a group of college students, all running around like chickens without heads. Twice, they tried to deliver food that we didn't order. It doesn't give me much comfort in expertise of the wait staff. When we finally did see a server, he said that the pizzas ( the bulk/specialty of the menu) were backed up at least 45 minutes to an hour, the kitchen was closing soon after and we needed to be on the other side of town in an hour and a half. This pizza place is just a few steps from the Gettysburg town square. They cook their pizzas in wood-fired ovens. We ordered a pepperoni with mushrooms and caramelized onions. It was delicious! The crust was crispy, and they were not chintzy with the toppings! This place also has items from the BBQ joint that is next door, as well as the ice cream shop that is two-doors down. Perfect place to eat if you are with others who don't want pizza. While we were walking out, we noticed that there are skeeball machines towards the back. Our first visit to the Upper Crust was good and won't be our last. The pepperoni and prosciutto and date pizzas we ordered were delicious. The crust was exceptionally good. The wood-fired taste was subtle, but still there, and the draft IPA I washed it all down with awesome. If I can make a suggestion, I wish they offered some salads and perhaps hot sandwiches to round out their menu. The ambiance is interesting and unique for Gettysburg. The place is cavernous and there are skeeball and basketball arcade games, as well as a full-service bar (stocked with Tanqueray 10, my favorite martini gin). Based on other reviews this is a love / hate place. My experience was fine. Ordered the brisket pizza. Instead of pizza sauce they used BBQ sauce. The meat was sparsely shredded across the pizza so I had no real meat taste. I could live with that though. It was harder to appreciate the crust. It seemed to be wheat flour based and I did not like it as much as others I've had. Had no problems with service or costs. The free games in the back were fun too. Retro warehouse themed wood fired pizza that is delicious and a great atmosphere. Service was pretty quick and our waitress was friendly. We split a pepperoni with hot honey and it was sweet and spicy. The ricotta cheese with the mozzarella was a nice touch. The pepperoni was flavorful. It could have used a bit more pepperoni, but overall it was fantastic. Little tip: let the pizza cool off before eating, the flavors really come out once it's closer to room temp. Went here on a Saturday night with the inlaws. Very interesting space and clearly renovated. Very cool to see the pizza ovens. My kid was a fan of the free games in the back. Ok, I'll be honest, I was a fan of the free skeeball in the back. We all got various pizzas and they were pretty tasty. The service was slow. Slower than it should have been for a mostly empty place. I don't have a problem with things coming out at a different time because it's freshmade pizza but it was just slow. Our server was attentive and helpful. First coming into the restaurant the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, it has a very laid back vibe. There is a game area in the back where you can play some arcade games while you wait. Each time me and family or friends go there it is worse than the last. Absolutely terrible, dry food. The basil on the pizza is ALWAYS burnt to a crisp, as well as the bottom. Someone in our group also tried their Borough BBQ brisket sandwich, which was dry and looked like it was popped into the microwave. Ridiculous prices for horrible food. When we arrived the manager informed us that we couldn't have the private room and our group would have to mingle amongst the screaming kids and game players. Had the worst pizza I have ever had in my life, "the brisket pizza." Crust was terrible, bbq sauce was ungodly sweet, it was so small and they sprinkled about 1 Oz of brisket on top of it, for $20. The waitress asked if I wanted a box, and I said no, it was gross. She asked if I wanted something else, and I said no, thinking she would just remove it from the ticket. No charges us, and no management follow-up. Son's pull pork sandwich looked and tasted like it was pulled from freezer and microwaved, and my wife's salad blah. I finally decided to walk down and check the place out. I was craving pizza and it seemed like it would hit the spot. There were a few people there, but the place was not packed by any means, especially for a Saturday in Gettysburg. I was greeted and seated immediately upon entry, and that's where the good ended... Over the course of 30 minutes I watched people eat, get sat, and orders taken from others that came in after I did, but not one staff member had the courtesy to even ask me what I wanted to drink, let alone take my order. It wasn't until I had finally had enough, stood up and began to walk out when someone behind the counter asked if anyone had taken my order yet. I told him no, and after sitting there for 30 minutes waiting, I wasn't going to wait any longer. If it had been packed, or if they had been short staffed, I could have somewhat understood. But when I sat there and watched them gather behind the counter chatting and fooling around, that obviously was't the case. read more

I don't like to be lied to and this review is purely based on unprofessionalism and not the food. Two of us sat at the bar and placed the pizza order. It was busy to be upfront. 40 minutes later I asked for the status. Bartender walks over to the cash register where they put the orders in and says "oh shit" and runs to the kitchen. I'm thinking she forgot to pick up the food. She comes back and says it will be another 40 minutes because the kitchen is backed up. Which would be an hour and half from when we originally ordered for a very small order. I asked her if she just forgot to put the order in. She says she did not. Meanwhile, I look around and see people that we walked in with eating. Having to wait for another 40 minutes I asked her for the check. I was standing right there watching, and she just pressed one button for the bill on the register. Of course there was no food on it because she never ordered it in the first place. If she did in fact order it she would have had to delete the food and re-paper the bill. I was in the business for many years and I completely understand and have empathy for staff .if you look at my many reviews I am not a complainer and always give the benefit of the doubt. Great, open space. Beautiful pizza ovens made of imported Italian tile. Had the white arugula pie and the sweet and spicy. Husband and I loved both. He felt the one white pie could have been cooked just a minute or two longer, but for me it was just right. We ordered in-person to take our food to go. Pleasant host and food was on time. However, the food is extremely over priced, the games are in pretty bad shape, and unless you're the only ones in the place, you're not going to get to play much since there aren't an overabundance of games. I have trouble reading without my glasses, and never having been here before, asked the curbside for recommendations on which salad to order. I received a snide remark from one the employees that, "there is only one salad on the menu." It's one of kind for this area so I understand the upcharge but it's just pizza. 18$ for a personal pie is steeeeep. My dad (a blaze Stan) gives this a 2.5 in relation to blaze pizza being a 5, do with that information what you will. 4/5 for me, -1 not enuff basil, needed a lot of seasoning.
