These guys are incompetent at best and scammers at worst. AVOID them. My car was making a weird scraping noise when turning and I could not figure out what it was, ultimate tire told me it was my engine mounts and that it would be $650 to fix it. They said they had to order parts so I had to wait a week... I was desperate so I couldn't wait that long and went to another mechanic, turns out the noise was caused by a COMPLETELY different issue. He fixed it for $325 and the noise has disappeared! Oh and here's the kicker, he looked at my engine mounts and said they were completely fine and didn't need replacement at all! I can only conclude that the ultimate scammers are either grossly incompetent or they are charging people to "fix" stuff that isn't even broken in their cars. They will never get another dime from me! read more

ZERO STARS!!! STAY AWAY!!! THE WORST TIRE REPAIR LOCATION-EVER! RUDE MANAGEMENT, COSTLY FIXING OF THEIR "REPAIRS". Be careful of Shopping Local. This joint has cost me more time and money than a simple set of tires ever should! Wrong sized tires put on my vehicle, cross threading my lug nuts (which Hey, by the way, snap off upon later repair!) and just a poor attitude every single time I spoke with "Nick" the owner. Extremely disappointing. I had a flat tire. I bought two new tires *because I had one flat tire*, not because I like going around buying tires and not being able to drive my car. When I walked up to the counter, holding my infant daughter in my hands, I made it clear that I was driving halfway across the country (700 miles RT). The man at the counter aggressively lectured me about my tire purchase; questioned my sanity and implied that I was mentally incapacitated multiple times. I wanted to believe that he was condescending and dismissive with everyone - maybe an abrasive guy. But he also made a point to be extra affectionate and very dedicated to completing conversations with his regular customers, in my presence. Like, they would try to finish off the conversation and walk out because people (and/or I) was waiting, and he'd revive the conversation with a new topic and follow-up questions. He responded to various questions I asked nonverbally, with facial expressions and hand gestures. I wondered if he had just decided that he did not want to do business with someone like me. Unfortunately, I did not listen to my better judgement, as I was already there and it was a holiday weekend, so I was desperate to get this resolved asap. Additionally, call me sentimental and/or loyal, but I respect business owners who choose to operate, and thrive in the city, despite the surroundings, so I wanted to support them vs going out to Mavis/ Wappingers, as was suggested to me by others who live in the city. I also consulted with my mechanic (via phone, long distance), who also happens to own the vehicle in question with me (my husband). I was getting attitude from the guy at the counter, while he simultaneously refused to look at, or in any way evaluate the tire and how to fix it, without first being paid. So, my decision to purchase (vs fix) was made, in part to avoid the additional fee being added to my bill for evaluating the tire, when I was fairly confident that I would need a new tire anyway. I came back to the store to order tires after speaking to my husband, but I spoke to the guy in the garage (he was at the counter then) about rotating the tires. As my best tires were in the front of the car, I wanted the new tires to go in the front, and the good old tires that were in the front, put in the back. In the back of the car, was the flat tire and the tire with the least amount of tread. I came back the following morning, after getting someone to watch my children. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that I would have to explain all of that over again. I ended up leaving the shop with new tires in the front and both the flat and the low tread tire in the back. They decided to keep both of my better tires, which was surprising considering safety was brought up in the lecture I was given but they didn't do anything to improve the safety of me and my small children, in an emergency situation. I was rushing down the street when I noticed the tire was still flat and called them. The man at the counter answered and said, since they were about to close (Saturday), that they would keep one of my tires for me and put it on the car when they open, the following Tuesday. So, me and my small children, our 700 mile trip, resulted in us not going anywhere or doing anything for several days, while our good old tires are trapped in the shop and I'm out of hundreds of dollars. On Tuesday (final fourth trip), when I got the car back, I was aware that they took the better old tire off and kept it, while leaving me with a less desirable back tire, I had to hurry up and get back on the road, and I didn't want to have any more arguments. Honestly, at that point, I was scared they would do something to jeopardize our safety, as it was obviously not a priority. Summary: Not recommended, especially if you're a black woman. Four trips to the shop to change one flat tire, over a period of several days. I pray that no one else experiences this. So dangerous!!! So frustrating! And maybe it is not all new customers or black women who get this treatment, but I can only speak for my own experience and my four trips to the shop. I may not be very experienced in changing tires, but I suggest going to a shop who won't make you suffer for that so much if you're in a similar position. Good luck. read more

I will NEVER come here again & i'd advise others to do the same. Management has the worst attitude and acts as though he's doing you a favor instead of you providing him with business. Very nasty when asked questions, as well as sarcastic & snarky. It took the guy an hour to change a single tire, one not all four. It's clear the worker did not have too much knowledge and instead of someone else coming to do it they all stood around laughing & making jokes. THEY WILL DO GREAT BY YOU. I come from a working class family and have driven lower end cars my whole driving life. I started taking my 2000 VW Passat wagon to them a few years ago. First for new tires, which Nick the owner showed me about 4 different "levels" of tires I could opt for. He called the lowest end ones "black circles with holes in 'em", but said he was more than happy to put those on if I'd like. He didn't try to upsell me anything. He showed me what the options were and gave me all the info he could to help me make my own informed decision. I chose the next level up of tires and they were very affordable to me, someone who makes very little money. i asked him if they did other work on cars and he said they did pretty much everything. Over the years I have taken this car in for various issues. Everything from replacing a section of the exhaust to mysterious check engine problems. Every single time, Nick was extraordinarily helpful and friendly. I'm also used to be being talked down to at garages, because I'm a slender young guy with music gear always in my car. No one there ever made me feel stupid or uncomfortable. They've all been straight up and just helpful. Nick and his people understand that working with a customer in need to help them find the most affordable option that will get them the strongest results is much more valuable than trying to make the quickest, biggest buck. Yes- these guys are no-nonsense and never try to give you some lame song and dance by selling you things that really aren't necessary, which we all know that when it comes to auto repairs/tires, can leave you broke in no time flat! They are straight up with their great prices and you usually deal directly with the owner, Nick. Many people are reluctant to visit this area of Poughkeepsie (shady part of Main St.), but its fine during the day. I work only a few blocks up the road, so I'm totally familiar with the area. Ultimate Tire has been in this same location for a few decades that I'm aware of, personally, and I highly recommend them to anyone. They are quick, fair and yes, "female-friendly". :) read more

Just stopped by for a quick tire repair. I friend recommended this to me and I wasn't disappointed. I received prompt attention and got the repaired tire mounted back on the car for a reasonable price. Don't care much for the neighborhood and the shop wasn't super clean, but if you want good service with good prices, this is the shop for you. read more

I have been a customer of Ultimate Tire for around 20 years, and have nothing but great things to say about them. Maybe the #1 most important thing about them is that they are 100% HONEST!!! There's been many times where they repaired or adjusted something, but could just as easily have sold me something that I didn't need (which would be easy to do, since I know little to nothing about automobiles). But that's NOT what they do and NOT who they are. They only do what truly needs doing, no more no less. They always explain in plain English what the problem is, they show me the parts that do or don't need repair or replacement. They get the job done right, and at a fair and reasonable price. They have earned my 100% trust and my business, and I'll always keep going there for my tire and repair needs. I PROMISE you that if you go there, you will not be disappointed and you'll find that everything that I've said is 100% correct. And I know many, many other very satisfied customers, that would say the exact same things that I've said. In closing, I see some negative reviews here on Yelp and I have absolutely no frick'n idea what, or who they are talking about. That is NOT the Ultimate Tire that I know very, very well. I had been taking my girlfriends and my car to Nick for years and he always did good work and was usually polite. Then one winter we bought a nice new set of snow tires for my girlfriends Rav4 and I asked Nick to just have his guys throw the all seasonals in the spacious trunk because we don't really use the space that much. Fast forward 3 months and I needed to get into the trunk and I come find out that his guys had forced the door closed on the tires hard enough that it broke the latch mechanism. I was upset but not that upset because the guys obviously didn't do it intentionally and I figured Nick would be cool like he always had been, accept some culpability, and we could work something out. Instead he got angry at me for even suggesting that his guys would do that. He said "sometimes things just break." Seems to me a strange coincidence that the one time the trunk breaks in 5 years is the one time it was forced closed onto 4 enormous tires...you form your own opinion from this story. It was 500 dollars worth of damage. He has since lost thousands of dollars of my business and will continue to for a long time. Get it together Nick. read more

Went in for new tires. Very quick, could not have been more than 30 minutes. I actually told the guy how astounded I was. Price wasn't cheap, but it was fair. Also, on an extremely hot day, it's nice to be in a place with powerful AC in the waiting area. The area it's in is a little sketchy, but safe during the day. Highly recommended. read more
