For some reason, in whatever I was looking at, this was flagged as a queer/gay bar. I think it's because some nights, they have drag. But we came in on a Friday night, and it was not the queer vibe. Felt like your typical sports bar with food. They had a bball game playing on the screen which, given my exhausted state, drew my eyes there and made me sort of zone out (because, bright and shiny and things moving on it lol). It felt...very straight. I'm honestly not sure where I saw that this was flagged as a gay bar, and maybe it's gayer during drag nights. Service was friendly, and maybe next time we'll try the food (which looks good) or sit at a table, but I think given the expectations, we were a bit disappointed that there wasn't even nary a rainbow flag to be seen. So, I don't even know where these expectations came from, and it might be an unfair one, so I'm still giving this place 5 stars. Such a great stop! Would have easily driven by it if it weren't for a recommendation. Good for drinks and delicious food! It's a locals spot for sure, but we weren't made to feel uncomfortable or out of place. If you're in the area, I highly recommend you stop here! I'd rate it about 3.5 stars. It was decent for what it was in the area. It was very busy on a Saturday night, but we managed to get seated within 20 minutes. Their table turnover is quick, and it's clear that the staff are on top of it. In the meantime, we were able to grab some beers at the bar. They have a good selection of beers on tap. While I didn't try their cocktails, nothing from the cocktail menu sounded particularly appealing to me. We shared the duck confit nachos, which was probably the best thing that we got. I got the beets and farro and added crispy chicken - big mistake. The chicken was really hard to chew because it was overly crisped, and the bowl itself was overly doused in sauce/dressing. My friends seemed to enjoy their burger and chicken Caesar salad, but they were pretty standard and not anything out of the ordinary. Verdict - decent option for the area, but have to adjust your expectations. read more

My friends and I were heading up to Joshua Tree for the weekend and were looking for a place to stop by for lunch. We decided to check out this location which is in the town before Joshua Tree. It's located in an area off the main road next to the VCA Animal Hospital on Twentynine Palms Outerhighway S. There's a parking lot with ample stalls. The interior was quite fun which a ton of paintings around the restaurant. There's a wall dedicated to a specific long haired cat which I think is the owner's cat? Maybe? There was a pool table and photobooth for customers to pay to play/use. I got their Shrimps & Grits as it seemed liked a nice unique dish. The presentation looked beautiful! I wasn't very impressed by the taste of the dish, though. There didn't seemed to be enough flavor in the grits in my opinion compared to other places I've been. There didn't seem to be any cheese which I thought this dish was known for. Or maybe the cheese was the white thing on my grits (peep pic)? The shrimp had wonderful flavor which I wish translated into the grits as well. My boyfriend and friend got their Breakfast Burger which had a double patty with a sunny side up egg which was delicious! Lots of flavor from the chipotle mayo. It was definitely a messy dish, haha! Another friend got their Crispy Chicken Sandwich which was VERY crispy. I only got to try the skin of the chicken rather than dark meat, but it looked as if she really enjoyed it. It was just enough for her to finish everything as well! We all shared a 12 piece buffalo wings which were really tiny... for the price it was for the size we got, it was kind of sad. But the wings were really crispy without them being drenched in buffalo sauce which I was kind of worried about, thankfully! Overall, this place was an a relatively good stop by restaurant. There wasn't much of a "wow" aspect for all of us, but we had a really good meal. The drinks, though, were really cheap in comparison to city prices. P.S. We were in town the weekend before Christmas and came in on a Sunday. It wasn't very crowded the night we were there. The atmosphere and decor were really cool. So many fun things to look at on the walls. We shared a burger and it was delicious. We had fun with the photo booth too. This was our favorite restaurant/bar in the area. My girlfriend and I did a girls trip to Joshua Tree last summer and stopped into this place for lunch one day. I'm not going to lie I wasn't expecting the food to be good because we initially just came in for drinks. We sat at the bar, the bartender was super cool and friendly. He gave great recommendations, my girlfriend got the vanilla French toast with no toppings and it was still really delicious. I ordered the shrimp and grits per the bartender's recommendation; and man he didn't steer me wrong. I was hesitant only because I'm originally from Louisiana and I'm super picky about shrimp and grits. But this was a pleasant surprise, it definitely is not like traditional New Orleans shrimp and grits, but their take on it is absolutely delicious. It was full of flavor and those grits were heavenly. The overall vibe of this place is super funky, they have great drinks and again the food was surprisingly delicious. We made our 3rd trip to the Tiny Pony last weekend, and we love it more than ever. Food and drinks were excellent, as with our previous visits! We always get the lemon pepper wings (yum), we tried the nachos with boar, and the frozen painkillers off the bar menu are the perfect treat. In particular this visit, the staff really stood out. We arrived during a busy time, they were seating quickly and were so attentive and kind. We were just two by a rambunctious table of 12ish, and it was clear they wanted us to have a good experience too. We love the vibe at this bar. We'll keep coming back every time we escape from LA. Fun spot! Very unassuming from the outside, but surprisingly lively inside. Has dive bar vibes, but the fries and bbq burger were good (yes in that order). The server was really nice but then really hard to get their attention after our food came (for water, sauce, etc.). A DJ went on at 9:30pm and he was great! It seemed like they might have been short-staffed that day. We were so hungry by the time the food came that I forgot to snap a photo. Ordered the Chicken Sandwich, decent, but the slaw on it didn't have any kick or tang to it. $15 à la carte, the portion felt a bit small. Ordered The Tiny Pony Fries, the highlight of the meal, great flavor, and the ranch and chipotle dips were tasty. Also ordered the Veggie Biscuits and Gravy. Biscuits were large, fluffy, and delicious, eggs were cooked just right. The gravy was a bit bland, though that might be because we're used to sausage gravy adding more depth. I always come to Tiny Pony when I am in the high desert. Not just because they have the best merch, but because it's such a welcoming place. The food is always solid and way more interesting than normal pub fare. They also have great DJ nights. Tonight I had Greyson as a server and he was fantastic. Super attentive, friendly, and knowledgable about the menu. I would highly recommend Tiny Pony to anyone coming through town for a townie vibe, in a great way. Oh! And they upgraded the outside area since I was there last. It now has amazing heaters that make being outside in the winter, no big deal! And it looks super nice out there too. read more

Was visiting Joshua Tree for a day and wanted to find something local since I didn't come all this way to go to the general fast food options that I could get anywhere else. Found The Tiny Pony after doing some research and it looked pretty good! Although there were definitely some interesting options on the menu, decided to keep it conventional and get The Pony Burger. Well, I did add an egg and some avocado, because whenever you see an option to add an egg to a burger you have to take it! Meat was good, definitely better than your usual burger but nothing overly special. What I was really here for was the Loaded Yuca Fries, which tasted great with the housemade queso and the chipotle aioli side. Service was good, no complaints from me. Very friendly folks here. I actually did like being able to grab water from a tank on the side on my own. I drink a lot of water, so it was easy to refill. Overall, good experience here. For the Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley area, it's a perfectly good establishment to come to. read more

Place has great reviews but it wasn't my favorite experience. My girlfriend and I went and we ordered a Caesar's salad. (It came with no croutons so basically just the lettuce cheese and dressing. I was craving a chicken sandwich. They sell a fried chicken sandwich and a burger. I liked the condiments on the burger option and noticed for $7 you can add grilled chicken to any dish! So I figured hey! Let's order the burger but ask to substitute the burger patties for grilled chicken. (Obviously intending to pay the price for adding it). The waitress said "I don't know how the kitchen would feel about that" .....so confusing. Why would the kitchen care? They offer grilled chicken as an add on. All they have to do is swap out the burger patties. If anything they make more money since I'm paying for both I'd be fine with all of this if the price was reasonable but it's priced a little higher than standard pub fair. I'm fine paying good money for good food. But no croutons. No substitutions even when they offer the substitution as an add on. (I even asked well what if I ordered the chicken on the side and swap the patties myself? How is that different haha) My girlfriend got the quinoa crunch bowl and it was basically just a bowl of lettuce with a hardly visible amount of quinoa. (We almost thought they forgot it but then found the tiniest sprinkle) Overall not lots of options in Joshua Tree so it did the job. But it could use some work on skimping on ingredients and flexibility with customer requests (especially when they're easily doable) read more

This is a lovely and fun place to visit near Joshua Tree National Park, although it gets busy and is pretty dark inside at night. Our group got dinner after visiting the park and enjoyed the different food and drink offerings. The staff was nice to help us move together two tables so we could sit together. They were on it with checking in on our group and keeping us happy. If it's not too cold, enjoy the outdoors area with the cute lights!
