It's fine for a quick bite to eat if you're in the area or on the golf course, but it's pretty underwhelming honestly. Service was nice though, and the ambience was OK. I have to say there are better places to eat in the area. read more

My wife and I came here for a rare date night around 5:15 p.m. on a Friday, and unfortunately, it turned into a frustrating experience. The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there, yet it took a long time just to get our drink and food order taken. Our appetizers came out quickly and were good, but that's where things went downhill. After that, we waited about 45 minutes for our main course while watching several tables who arrived after us order and receive their food. We were seated right by the service counter and saw food coming out nonstop, which made it even more frustrating. The couple next to us got their meals within 15 minutes of ordering, despite arriving after us. When I finally asked about our food, the waitress seemed under the influence of something and told us it would be out soon. Shortly after another server informed us that due to a "new system," our order had never even been sent to the kitchen. After waiting over an hour, we were asked to place our order again -- at that point, we decided to leave. I can't believe that no one noticed that we had not received our food but had been there the longest. We ended up going to another resturant close by, Snake Bite, where we were in and out in 35 minutes with great service, despite it being just as busy. I've had good lunch experiences here before, but this dinner service was extremely disappointing. Hard to justify coming back in the evening after this. read more

Fantastic for a casual breakfast. Massive outdoor patio with a beautiful view of the golf course and the hills behind it. Very inexpensive and nice people working there. My breakfast was a good size portion. I asked for salsa with my eggs. They brought me some delicious homemade salsa. Highly recommend. Very convenient big parking lot and such a pleasant environment. Went for breakfast. Disappointed. Took a while to arrive and was almost cold. My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito, it was on the small side. Said it wasn't bad. I had eggs with toast and avocado as a sub for the bacon. Breakfast potatoes were lukewarm. A little on the hard side. The eggs were cold. Only 1 slice of toast. The waitress didn't check in on us once she delivered the food. There was only one other table that was full so there was no excuses not to check in with us. read more

Sandy has been our Sunday morning waitress for some time now and we would like to acknowledge her as our favorite in the Desert. We dine our frequently and have seen the best and probably the worst in service staff. The food and atmosphere at the Roost are very good but what really sells us on a restaurant is the service. Every couple of years we have a family vacation to Yucca Valley and rent a home near the golf course. I've been to The Roost twice now. Both times the food and the service were very good. Try the breakfast burrito, they make their own salsa. We've been there on weekday mornings so the inside was pretty quiet. Relaxing with a view of the Golf Course. There is a shaded outdoor area that says dogs are welcome. Price is right, food is good, the people are friendly. Perfect spot for breakfast. read more

It's our first time visiting Joshua Tree. After driving around the park & enjoying the view for almost 4 hours, we decided to have a nice dinner. Not just burger or Fastfood, someplace where we could sit down and enjoy the food. Found The Roost on Yelp & It didn't disappoint!!! We ate outside facing the golf course & a nice view of the mountains. The food was Great!!! We had Caesar's salad, a full slab of ribs that we split (comes with macaroni salad & beans), vanilla cheesecake to cleanse the palate plus the margarita & the beer .... All for only $50!!! Delicious prime rib! The owner is super nice and friendly. She takes the time to socialize with her customers. Angela was so helpful and sweet. She provided great service. Gorgeous spot and amazing Friday night experience. If you go make sure to call ahead and get a reservation. I went in for my 730 reservation on Friday. Showed up at 715 and they were able to seat and serve me right away. If you go Friday you definitely have to get the prime rib dinner for $30. It was a little pricey but so good! My best meal in the area that weekend. They had an amazing singer and guitar playing there, incredible sunset over the course and the service was quick and friendly. I got the key lime cheesecake for dessert which was the best key lime dessert I've had but was expensive for a the tiny piece I got. read more

As I drove up to this place, I wasn't really sure they were open. It was a random Thursday (during the pandemic) in the late afternoon. I walked into the main building not sure if I had walked into the right place and saw a little cafeteria-looking food stand type of place with a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. It's important to note that this place is also the restaurant for the golf club it seems and probably caters mostly to golfers. With that said, the guy at the front was super nice, super helpful, and was happy to explain some items on the menu. I got the BLT with an iced tea (unfortunately sweetened as that's all they had - speaking of, they need unsweetened iced tea!). When the sandwich arrived to my table outside, it looked like a BLT my mom would make at home with a side of macaroni salad. Let me tell ya, that BLT brought me right back to those summer afternoons eating my homemade sandwich on the front patio as I was still soaked from playing around in the front lawn sprinklers. In short, it was so good that I had to order another BLT. The mac salad was great too! What really makes this place is eating. your food sitting under the shaded patio, just looking out into the lush greens of the golf resort and the mountains in the background dotted by Joshua Trees. Great prices and great service. This humble place isn't anything fancy but it sure was a nice little gem in the middle of the desert. read more

We tried their New Years dinner for two and as others have stated, the prime rib was amazing. The facility is very casual, but everything was served at the right temperature and tasted good. Tim, our server, was attentive and kind enough to take a photo of us with my camera and also to pose for a picture to post here. Very pleasant patio dinning experience while overlooking the golf course!‍‍ They offer a ClEAN & CASUAL environment, and great tasting food too! However, there are no servers to take your order during breakfast & lunch so you must order at the counter, and they'll bring it to your table... but don't let that fool you on the quality of their food! Note, it's definitely NOT an overrated snack bar, as mentioned in a previous misleading review! Whoever wrote that obviously didn't bother to take a look at the menu or order anything other than a bag of chips, because seriously, how many snack bars have they been to that offer filet mignon or prime rib? Delicious as always! We love coming to The Roost for dinner. It's easily one of the nicest restaurants in town and definitely has the best ambiance. It's beautiful to look out onto the golf course no matter what time of year! We happened to swing by for dinner tonight and we're lucky enough to have Tim as our server. He is always helpful, kind and patient as we try to decide what we want to order! The service was top notch- our cocktails were refreshing on this warm evening and the food delish! 5/2/19 The Roost is awesome. I didn't know what to expect, given it's at a golf course in Yucca Valley but the reviews were good and they don't lie. We came with 3 families on our way to camping in Joshua Tree. It was a Thursday night. We sat out on the patio, staring at the lovely view. There was a GREAT jazz band, such an unexpected delight. The 4 kids were so happy walking along the walkways on the course, looking at bugs and making up dances. Perfect setting. There was a varied menu, something for everyone. I split the special gumbo and a patty melt with the hubs. He liked the gumbo but I LOVED the patty melt. So good. Other adults had burgers or tuna melts, all good stuff. Kids were happy except with the nachos which were lifeless and tasteless. The only miss. Nice local beer menu and the prices were spectacular for what you get. The service was perfect given that we had such a big party. Our server was super sweet and on the ball. I highly recommend this place. read more

I could have had four Carl's Jr. dinners for the price of the prime rib I ate tonight. I could have also sat in my car and enjoyed the ambiance of my car stereo that only plays Miles Davis since the CD is stuck inside and won't come out but I stopped at the Roost since it's Friday night prime rib. I ate it so fast without chewing it enough and wondered if I was going to have to give myself the Hiemlich maneuver. I had a gin and tonic. I would have also had a glass of wine from the extensive selection but as we head towards the holidays, I knew that was a no no. This is a locals place. A man next to me let out an expletive and I gave him a withering teacher look. I could hear him apologize under his breath (they don't call Yucca Valley a great place to retire for nothing). The chef has some mad cooking skills. He's not the guy who is going to come out and chat you up, but since it looks like he's cooking on a George Foreman grill, you can't blame him for not taking his eyes off the food. Honestly, I don't know how he makes his magic in that tiny area they call a kitchen. The bread pudding never made it home so I'll always wonder how it would have tasted warmed with the caramel sauce. I ate it cold in the car and it was still pretty tasty. I like this place not just for the food but for the view. Since the High Desert is pretty dry, this is one of the only places you can look upon green grass (it's a golf course),. I could have had four burger dinners in place of this one amazing meal but I'm sure glad I went for the prime rib instead. read more
