Went here when my wife wanted to use her free birthday breakfast coupon (if you download their app, and put in your birthday, you get a free breakfast every year!). She got the Bears choice breakfast with scrambled eggs, ham and pancakes. I got the Bobs Big Bear Burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce Wrapped. With green beans and bacon. The burger is 10 oz! More than 1/2 pound. It was all very yummy and the service was great. They make everything to order so expect a wait for your food. Be patient.

I stopped here for dinner on the way to Joshua Tree and was glad that I did! The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We ordered the tri-tip and the California burger. My advice would be to order a little more rare than what you're looking for because they overcooked it a bit. We ordered beer and wine, both of which unfortunately came out in hot glasses as if they had just been removed from the dishwasher, but they were otherwise good. Our server was friendly and helpful, and the diner was well air-conditioned. If you want a casual dinner with good portions for lower prices in an expensive area, this is the place!

I have been to Black Bear Diner in other locations before. The menu was more memorable than the foods because it looked exactly like a newspaper. Anyways, we ordered fried chicken steak, tri-tip, Joe's omelet, and The volcano. Originally, I wanted the corned beef hash, but the waitress came back and said they didnt have it. I switched to The volcano. Everyone's else foods came out except for mine. It took a really long time for my foods to get delivered. It was their mistake for not having it. So they should have priority my order, but i guess they didnt. Other customers at other tables that came after got their foods. It wasn't that busy so I am not sure why they took so long. Luckily, our server was nice and professional about it. She apologized and checked up on us. The foods were ok. The tri-tip wasn't so tender. Mash potatoe was a bit too salty. The minestrone soup was good. The pancakes were yummy and the biscuits were great. The omelet was ok. No comment on the chicken fried steak since I didnt try it. I m not always in this area so most likely won't be returning.

I came here after lunch, so the restaurant wasn't busy. Still, the service was a bit slow. There's another branch near my home, so I come here pretty often. The food is decent and consistent, but nothing really stands out. Overall, it's an average spot.

Food was awesome, very quick service, and good vibes inside. Brittany was very helpful!! Will be back

Great location next to our motel. Wonderful service, great menu, and good pricing. Breakfast is their strength as we loved it all and then some. Platters are all huge. Next time will return for their prime rib dinner!

Took the kids out for dinner . They had the choice between IHOP and Black Bear Dinner. We are in a town with limited options. So glad they chose The Black Bear diner. Not only are the servers kind and attentive but the food was fresh and delicious . It was like home cooking . I always get hesitant with a chain restaurant but so happy we have this place and decided to try it. The kids got pancakes and chicken fingers which I forgot to get photos of.

Wow, who woulda thunk that in this rather esoteric. Coming at night an hour or so before closing has its perks- fast service and good Is cooked to perfection. Time to close this review down since hubby is eating all the good! Delicious!!

    Health department rating
    Lori M.

We have been occasionally going to the Black Bear diner ever since it opened several years ago, and the experience has always been disappointing. This should be the nicest diner in town and it should be busy. It's a beautiful building and the interior is great, so what's the problem? First of all, what's with the B grade in the window? The San Bernardino health department has found health violations continuously over the last year. That should be the kiss of death to restaurants. In fact I've never seen any restaurant with less than an A rating. So why haven't they cared enough to fix this? Most restaurants who lose their A rating fix it immediately so they can have that health department approval back in their window. Yet this has been in their rating for a year. The food could be so much better. They have a great menu, the prices are fair. . I ordered a steak tonight which looked good, but tasted terrible. The salad was dried iceberg lettuce, pretty inedible. The green beans were so overcooked that they have turned to mush. My husband stopped ordering the regular fries because he said they tasted like wood and now he orders the sweet potato fries with his patty melt. He never finishes that sandwich because it's just not an enjoyable meal. We have waited to be seated for long periods and I have seen other people walk out because they were tired of waiting and they head over to the IHOP next-door. Honestly, the staff looks bored indefinitely not happy to see us. I don't wanna run this place down. I have a soft spot for it and I wish it would succeed. But it just feels like no one cares. This should not be that hard to fix but as it is, I don't know how they stay open. Tonight there were two other customers. Maybe the breakfast crowd is bigger?

We got in and sat around 1240 and had waited a staggering 50 minutes without any food nor anyone coming to check in on us and see if we were doing alright. When we finally questioned our order, it was revealed that one of their cooks quit that morning... To which I feel like you should probably disclose those details to your customers up front don't you think? Long after we were about to leave, she still asked if we can wait 5 minutes more to finish to which finally was the last straw and we walked out. First of all, there is a reason why everyone says Lola is an awesome waitress - it's because it's true! I was trying to decide between the pastrami burger ($16.99) and the chicken pot pie (also $16.99) and without batting an eye she said if you're hungry go with the pastrami burger. I then wanted to test the waters so I said "Okay, how about if we add the prime rib ($27.99) into the mix?" And she said prime rib is the best. Ultimately I wasn't hungry enough for a prime rib meal so went with the pastrami burger which is a smashburger patty with pile of pastrami, grilled onions, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato's & 1000 island served with choice of fries, onion rings, tots or side salad - and I got tots of course which were just as they should be - fantastic! (Side note: Which ever side you get, be sure to get ranch dressing - it's awesome!) The burger was fantastic. It comes cooked led-well and I like mine medium which they will do by request. Girlfriend got the veggie skillet ($18.99) with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, avocado, spinach, home style potatoes & queso blanco - served with 3 eggs and any style toast but she decided to try peanut butter pancakes ($4 upcharge) and her whole meal was absolutely delicious! My low rating is entirely based on the customer service experience within the first few minutes of arriving. I came in with my dog, fully aware that we would need to sit outside. Since most restaurants still have you check in first, I stood at the podium where there was a sign indicating a server would check in guests. After standing there briefly, an employee asked if we wanted to sit on the patio. I said yes, and he responded by telling us to "go up the ramp." Not even in a friendly manner. Me being me I just wanted to verify that I didn't have to check in as it wasn't just myself, my party we're not all with me ..wanting to make sure I was following the correct process, I politely asked if I didn't need to check in first. His response came across as annoyed, basically repeating that he had already told us to go up the ramp. The interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive and rude. There's a difference between being direct and making guests feel unwelcome. I'm usually not someone who leaves negative reviews over one interaction, but both my husband and brother-in-law also noticed the attitude, as they were close enough to hear and it immediately made us uncomfortable enough to leave. Before leaving, I did take a quick look at the patio area and noticed it was very shaded with leaves scattered around from the wind, which didn't make the outdoor dining setup feel especially inviting either. Overall, this was disappointing because I had chosen this spot to celebrate my 30th birthday and was really looking forward to enjoying a big, delicious pancake. Unfortunately, the experience started off on the wrong foot and we decided not to stay.

I knew the burger would be good, this place is your "typical diner" - however, I was actually blown away by it!! Fries and onion rings were delicious too!! Salty, crunchy and perfectly cooked. Ranch sauce was fire too. My BF has been eating at this place for years now, and has nothing but good things to say about this place as well. We can't wait to go back soon and try the Mexican food, as our server recommended trying that cuisine. Based off these experiences and the friendly head nod from the cook as we left - we'll be back and will try something new. I actually look forward to trying breakfast there as well, at some point soon, as I heard the people seated behind us talking how good their waffles and pancakes are. Please try this establishment, I hope you enjoy as much as we did!

One of my favorite breakfast options in the Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear area. I live in Los…read moreAngeles, so it's great to find a retro, SoCal diner up in the mountains that reminds me of back home. The food portions here are very generous, and the pricing is extremely fair. Just like any diner the menu is very large and has a lot of great options on it. Service was very fast and friendly, and they are true champions with staying on top of the drink refills. There is a large free parking lot right in front so parking is very easy and close. Inside is pretty small, they have about six booths and twice as many counter seats so if it is busy, you may have to wait a little bit, but it will be worth it. For this visit, I chose the Chili Cheese Omelette and really liked it. I wish it would've had less beans and more meat but overall I can't complain because I finished the entire thing. They also do four eggs for their omelettes so it is a bit larger than you will usually get. As mentioned the coffee is great and they will continue the refills the second you need it. It's located in sleepy Running Springs, which is in between Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear. It's less than a 10 minute drive from both locations so it is a really great option for breakfast when visiting. We will be back next time we are visiting the mountains.

What a great little find! I've driven by the place several times over the past 20+ years driving…read moreto/from Vegas and finally stopped for in for breakfast. It was a Saturday morning around 9:30ish and was surprised it wasn't that busy. We found a booth and saw we had to scan a QR code for the menu. OK, I admit, I hate that. Then they had instructions to download the app to place your order. I assume this was put in place for COVID. Finally, a waitress came over and said she'll take our order. Thank goodness! I ordered French Toast with sausage patties, which I totally prefer over links but it's so rare to find them on the menu, and my partner had a breakfast burrito. The food arrived fairly quick and it was perfect. I'm not into fancy breakfast foods so keep is simple and I'm happy. The breakfast burrito was HUGE and my partner wasn't able to finish it. The entire breakfast with coffee was about $40, which I felt was very reasonable by today's standards. We both mentioned how we recently went to famous SoCal fast food hamburger joint (not In-and-Out) and it was $30 for 2 people, and not as good. Our service was super friendly, and we felt welcome there. Along with good food, this might be our regular breakfast stop when driving to Vegas.

The cook/server that helped me was friendly and on top of my food order. I got there at 4:00 AM and he was cooking an order for 6 guys in the back. He grabbed my order, the breakfast sandwich, cooked it up quickly and got me on my way. I took the food to go and forgot to take a photo of it, but it was delicious. Stop by and check. This desert gem out.

Breakfast at Keedy's is always a great idea…read more The menu is deep. You'll definitely find something that you're craving! The service is phenomenal. We always feel well cared for. The food is amazing and delivered surprisingly fast, with no compromise to preparation, presentation or temperature! Keedy's has been doing this very well for decades and have worked out a precise routine for delivering quality, quickly and with a genuinely good attitude! Keedy's opened a second location in 2024 (?) In The Canopy center (near Jefferson @ Ave 52). We enjoyed the experience and the facility is fresh, stylish and again, the service and food quality are both excellent. Of the two locations, we enjoy the nearly 70-year history, tradition and nostalgia factor of the original. Local tips: 1. The back patio appears to be dog-friendly. 2, Parking in front can be congested, but don't give up! Just swing around the back where there are abundant spots. 3. Be sure to check in with the cashier rather than seating yourself. If you have a seating preference, let them know : ) Enjoy!

Went for breakfast over the weekend, April 2026…read more The place was very busy. We didn't have to wait for a table. We sat at the counter. Ordered an egg salad sandwich with fries and a steak sandwich with fries. It took a long time to come out. My boyfriend ordered his steak medium rare and it came out more like medium well. He also said it had no flavor.. The menu said the steak was ribeye, but it didn't seem to be very flavorful. The egg salad sandwich, this was just awful. It tasted like it had been fermented and was inedible. It was clearly going rancid. I did bring this to their attention and they did offer to get me something else but by then I was feeling a little queasy. To be honest, the waiter was not exactly helpful when I told him that it was not edible. Instead of just saying, I'm really sorry. Could we get you something else? He made a few excuses as well. There's no excuses for serving that. We will not be going back. Very disappointed as this place has been there for a long time and was extremely busy when we got there. But the food was not very good at all.
