REVISED 3/29/25. Jorge The general manager reached out and listened to me personally. I also went back to the restaurant today, and had a fantastic experience. The manager today was super friendly as well as her staff. One of the workers gave my dog a pup cup. This place does still have the best fast food burgers, I would suggest corporate uses a thousand island sauce on their base burgers instead of ketchup. I think it will catch on like it did for IN and Out. Anyways, this place is a gem in the desert. ORIGINAL REVIEW First off the food is fantastic. The burgers are the best fast food burger you can get. The fries are decent. I can't really tell they are cooked in Tallow fat, as they advertise outside of the restaurant. Although, I am usually very happy with this place. I am leaving a one star review because of a manager's actions. Of all the restaurant personnel. the manager (apparently his name is Tim- older guy with a black polo shirt and red stripes on the side) is the one with the attitude. I don't know what I did to piss him off but he was not happy with me from the minute he saw me. I saw him ready to bring my food outside to my table, then handed the food to a girl employee to hand to me. He gave me negative vibes of which, I didn't put 2 and 2 together until, I got a refill on my soda and under his breath he said "this is the 4th time this guys been in here!" Well, I am dining at the restaurants and there are no signs that refills are limited, why is this manager eyeballing me? Usually the manager of a restaurant is THE most courteous and professional employee, but not this guy. When I tried taking a photo of him to complain to corporate, he started hiding in the back (at the grille). I've never had issues at this store before. The managers are always very welcoming and even offer my dog a free pup cup. The only thing I'd expect from this problem manager is probably spit in my food. read more

I was extremely disappointed with the service at my most recent visit. Looking around it was a little busy but no lines or anything plus no drive thru line. Somehow I ended up waiting 30+ minutes for my order that wasn't even complicated!! By the time I even got it, the shake I had gotten was completely melted and unenjoyable with fries anymore (which I was very excited for). I've always loved Steak 'n Shake since I was a kid, went there with family a ton, and then with friends in high school. Ever since they got bought it's felt like Steak 'n Shake has really gone down hill, people expect McDonald's prices even though there were still waiters serving them (the amount of times I've seen people leave little to no tip on an already small bill is horrendous-don't go out to eat if you can't afford to tip!) Anyway, I've accepted Steak 'n Shake just won't be what it used to, but I still crave their chili and shakes, so I wanted to give this one a try. It totally made my day! While it was a condensed version of the Steak 'n Shake I grew up with, the food was really good. My order came out perfectly. All of the staff I interacted with were very kind and helpful. Marlene helped us when we had a question about our order on the self-serve kiosk, and she was so nice. I really hope other Steak 'n Shakes can follow in this one's footsteps. I also hope Steak 'n Shake franchise owners will increase the pay for their employees, this is not traditional fast food, people shouldn't expect McDonald's/Taco Bell prices. Was a really windy day and was prolonging heading back to camp at Joshua tree. Figured cooking & fire would be a no-go at camp so decided to eat in town and spotted this place. I had never heard of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Walked in and it was bright and clean. There are about 4-5 ordering kiosks. Wasn't greeted by any employees and employee interaction was extremely limited for myself and other customers I saw walk in. This might of been a bad thing but they were so efficient that it worked. Placing the order was super easy on the kiosks and our food only took a few minutes. I ordered the #1 combo which was a double cheese burger with fries/drink. I also added a medium onion rings. The burger (while thin) was really really good! Tasted just off the grill at home. No fake taste here. I really loved the skinny fries, they were crispy and tasted great! It reminded me of another chain where a certain number of guys make burgers and hand out peanuts but this burger here tasted sooo much better! Unfortunately, they don't have any locations in the state I live but I would definitely visit again when I'm back in CA (or back east where they are more prevalent). read more
