Nice people with a modest amount of parking. Very busy on a Friday night so get a reservation. I placed it to go order which they told me would take 30 to 40 minutes - it actually took more than an hour. I thought the food was very good, but my friend's salad was not up to her expectations. Her previous salad had been much better, she said.

Was in the Area and found this place on Yelp. So we decided to give it a try. Also ordered the Sqrl Burger whoch was really good. Its a thick patty! You can order through the qr code at the table and they run the food and drinks out. Super random but the music was not what I expected in a good way . Would recommend if ever in the area.

Came here for a Saturday night dinner while visiting JT and let me just start off by saying if you want to come here you 100% should make a reservation in advance!! This place has a large amount of indoor seating and minimal outdoor seating (with space heaters provided) but given how chilly it can get in the desert at night; you almost certainly would prefer to sit indoors. There is plenty of free street parking nearby and our waiters were all polite and friendly. Overall, this place was unfortunately a miss for us. Sqrl Burger 2/5, okay so maybe I've missed something in the burger trend world but why are there no more veggies on burgers?? This came with the meat itself, cheese and pickles (I asked for no onions or bacon). For what this came with, I did feel like it was overpriced. Should I have paid more attention to reading the fine print of this burger? Perhaps! But one does have to wonder what happened to tomatoes and lettuce... Chicken wings 2/5, my friend got this in the Shanghai wings but noted she felt they were too salty

One of the best burgers I've experienced in California- their gluten free buns were hearty and strong ! The merch was sick and the murals inside and out were dope. Great time all around.

Came here based off reviews and I must say this place is amazing. There was live music playing and added to the overall vibe of this place. 5/5 Grnd Sqrl burger - super yummy and well cooked that goes just right with the fries. Must have! 5/5 Finicky Coyote burger - a well balanced veggie burger that was tasty. Place is lively and perfect place of you in the Joshua Tree area. Overall 5/5 go for it!

Yummy gastropub located in Twentynine Palms with phenomenal food options. Visited this place this past Saturday, was able to make an OpenTable reservation earlier that day and I would say that this place was pretty packed for a Saturday. They had a live singer who had an amazing voice. The food was really good and decently priced. We ordered the finicky coyote, the jalla, sqrl burger and grilled cheese, along with the Parmesan and truffle fries. The food was so yummy and totally hit the spot. Would definitely come back here if in the area.

Let me start off by saying the burger was the absolute star of the show. We got the sqrl burger and it was cooked to perfection, it was a melt in your mouth burger! Perfect cheese perfect flavor. A 9 on my scale. Then the fries are just like McDonald's fries. They are perfectly salty, perfect size. Not burnt, not too crisp, exactly what you want from fresh fries. We got 2 flavors of wings (buffalo & Shanghai). The buffalo was classic bar wing flavor. Think about a good bar buffalo wing and this was it. The Shanghai flavor was heavy on the soy sauce and salt, but they will grow on you. Get the deth sauce cause it adds a perfect kick to those salty wings. 10/10 if you come to Joshua tree this is a must stop for - service was great - ambiance was good if you life life music

A nice, casual spot nestled on the corner by the traffic light. Has a decent outside and inside area. Loved our food and the service was quick and friendly. The salad hit the spot with its fresh and crisp veggies and different textures. The wings were good and not spicy, we got the buffalo wings. The fries were a little soggy but we liked that they weren't salty and a decent quantity. They also had a little beer station for when you party too hard and grab water instead of beer to hydrate you which I thought was kind and clever.

Stopped here for a post park bite and brew. We opted to sit outside because the interior smelled very strongly of bleach when we visited. I got the dank salad and while it was generally pretty tasty and I appreciated the nutrient rich components, I found the dressing to be a bit too acidic at times. I did not add any protein to it and had the cheese on the side, so perhaps that helps balance out the acidity. I loved the beets and caramelized nuts on top. Service was very friendly and attentive.

After a hike in JT, my husband and I stopped by grnd sqrl for "linner" (you know, late afternoon lunch/dinner). It was stellar. We had butternut squash, curry, coconut soup to start, followed by lasagna and the house salad, and they were all superlative. I wasn't surprised to read that the chef once worked at Michelin-starred Aquavit in Manhattan. We met the owner, who was super-friendly, and the staff is happy and chatty. Don't miss it!

Stopped here when driving back from Joshua Tree since it had great reviews and recommended by locals. There is some street parking and free public parking nearby. The inside has some fun murals (even the bathroom!) and a very relaxed, laid-back vibe. They have a great selection of craft beer (Delly Jonut was really good). The Sqrl burger was delicious. The aioli on the burger hit the spot and it was cooked perfectly. The truffle fries were delicious and crispy. The service was great and everyone was friendly. I would highly recommend if you're in the area!

    Finicky Squirrel burger (Beyond Meat)

We arrived with family after visiting the Joshua Tree National Park. I have to say, there are barely any food options here besides fast food so when I found this place with many good reviews, I was optimistic. We were seated and our drinks were taken immediately. I ordered the Finicky Squirrel which is a beyond burger. After about 20 ish minutes of waiting, our food was brought to us. My patty was crispy. Arugula and guacamole were fresh. Onions were fine, not sautéed which would have been better. Fries were average. As a result, for the area this place was good. But out of all the burger places I have been too in my life, I have had plenty of better ones.

Good liquor selection and Josh lived up to his rep with a big perfect dry and ice cold martini. As good I would have in any restaurants back in dc where I live. I wanted to clink glasses with locals who could tell me about the fun and flaw of growing up in a small town. And I figured that local dive bars would allow me to check off my hopes. Plus, the word on the street was that the Virginian was a local haunt for marines. I wanted to party with marines. Spoiler alert: I did--and it added an extra layer of crisp and pop to my night. On my first night, I went there, by my lonesome, and I was surprised to know that it was a cash-only establishment. This worked to my favor because I did not want to drink too much and then go to my hotel. I did not aim to get a DUI, I just wanted to have fun. When I go alone to a bar, I have a primary objective: to find friends to drink with and talk to. Especially on vacation, I wanted to find an experience that would lead me to a "hangover-like night." I know it might be impossible, for sure, but that does not impede me from trying. And when one tries, one might be successful. I was. I went to put my name on the chalkboard to eventually play pool. I gathered around the others who were waiting for pool. I quickly made friends with a marine. He was not the marine I had my eye on, but he was the one who entertained my advances. Soon after, we went to the bar to get him a drink. One for me too. We were getting shots. The wait was long-loving for it gave him and me the opportunity to connect. Let's call him Lalo. He told me about life as a marine. I told him about my life. He told me that he had found a girl--now his fiancée--on an app called Chispa. Basically, a dating app for Latinx people. I did not think he had found a fiancée, but rather a person he could fall in love with. He was young, you see, and love for marriage seems to be a long game best played by those who are at least in their mid-twenties. Regardless, I will root for those two crazy kids. As we drank and grew closer, Lalo and I just became friendlier and friendlier, which led to friendly hugs. On one particular long and gripping hug, I uttered, "This feels so nice, Lalo." His reply was, "I am glad, Frankie, I am glad." My chosen name is Frankie. His words comforted me because they sounded sincere, and words I had not heard before, within this context. Here in the middle of a desert, I had found comfort in the arms of a marine. I never thought I would, but like I said, I tried, and I was happy to be successful. Soon one of his friends came and requested to leave. Lalo did. I was irked. I wanted him to stay with me for a few more drinks at the Virginian. It did not happen. I got lucky, but my luck did not extend the night. But I did get lucky the next night. I went again after my day at Joshua Tree. It was a Saturday night. The place was full but not so full that it was overwhelming. I saw three young men sitting. There was a stool next to one. They had the build and essence of marines. So, I sat next to one. And again, I made a quick friend. He was from South Dakota. I can't remember his name, so let's call him James. James introduced me to his two friends. One was from the same town I grew up in. Happy coincidence. James and I spoke. He was kind enough to get me a glass of water. The service of the armed forces rings high and small. They were taking shots, one after the other, without restraint. One of James's friends stepped outside and puked. The bartender reprimanded them. He gave them a mop to clean their own mess. Wow, this would not happen in an LA bar, I thought. The marines were put to work. James took the mop and finished for his friend. The bartender inspected the mess and green-lit for them to go. Again, I wanted a marine to stay for my own selfish needs. He did not. He grew and gave me a smile as he went. This bar is a local haunt, but great for visitors. So, if you go to Joshua Tree or a nearby town, don't be shy and stop in here for local color. I got to see small-town vibes at play. It was great, and I met my own personal goal of partying with marines. The Virginian may not be sophisticated, but it is a place to have fun and engage in a way that feels homey yet exciting. Please remember it is cash only but it has ATMs. If you use credit cards, to get by at times, then skip this place.
