I usually enjoy trying new places, but my recent visit to this Applebee's was pretty disappointing. The only thing that was actually good were the appetizers, those came out fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, everything else went downhill from there. The food took a very long time to come out, and when it finally did, it was cold. On top of that, our waitress was really slow and kept forgetting the simple things we politely asked for. It just made the whole experience frustrating instead of enjoyable. When we told our waitress about our food she told us she will bring us the manager. She came by we explained to her about our food and she gave us a small refund... She got menus and immediately told us, she wasn't sitting anyone in the dinning room anymore...? Ummmm, ok? She said we could either sit in the bar area, or out in the patio. We glanced in the bar area, a loud game was playing on the tv, and even louder, drunk guys were watching the game. We went to the patio, and as soon as we opened the door, noticed everyone there had dogs. There were at least 6 dogs out there, and some started barking at us. I'm allergic to dogs. We went back to the girl and told her we couldn't sit out there with the dogs, as I was allergic. She made no effort to sit us inside or anything. She just looked at us with a blank stare. Last Friday night my friends and I made a tactical error or the best decision of our lives. We ate a handful of m*gical mushrooms and experienced the entire spectrum of human emotion inside the Yucca Valley Applebee's. First let me describe the ambience. This Applebee's is seriously dark sided. The walls are plastered with children. Yes, children. Some disturbed human being decided it was a good idea to create a photo collage of the local high school class of 2014 and plaster it on the walls. Life size children stare at you from every wall, faces permanently frozen in what I can only imagine to be anguish, while you try to eat your 2 for $25 chicken tenders. The carpet is a graveyard of croutons and sadness. The bathrooms are void of joy and toilet seat covers. Four television screens all play the same channel--a synchronized dance of terror. The children seem to know what you're walking into as you pass them on the walls. "Go back while you still can," they plead with their eyes. But we didn't listen. Now to the food. Filled with neon drinks and chicken wings seasoned in pulverized Cheetos, the Applebee's menu is less of a menu than it is a pamphlet on the dangers of late stage capitalism. In order to feed your family an affordable meal, it can't actually be with real food but a distant relative of it. The burger tastes like suffering. The broccoli comes out soft and seasoned in what tastes like human tears. The chicken tenders are hard and vaguely threatening. And the cocktails are an afront to god's green earth and taste like Fabuloso cleaning solution but are only $6! Now if you're reading this and wondering...if the Yucca Valley Applebee's ambience and food are truly that bad, then WHY the hell are you giving it a 5 star review...let me explain. The reason I am giving this absolutely cursed Applebee's a 5 star review is because of the staff. The hostess stands like a Charon at the gates of this Applebee's, ready to safely ferry lost souls to the underworld. The kitchen staff are given the absolute bare minimum to work with and still make a perfectly cooked steak and could probably all successfully storm Normandy. Our server very well may be an ancient tree spirit. She is perfect. She even wears little gemstones on her face bellow her eyes ever so gently reminding you there is still beauty in this world. My husband ordered chicken, hot sausage pasta the cook did not drain the grease out of the dish, so he had to send it back again, 2nd time and was done right. Sam was awesome, the other workers were not bein attentive as much. The only good thing that came out of this was our service, if would not been for Sam the meal would have really really SUCKED!! The bill came to with the discount due to the meal, was 34.00. Without discount and hiccup on meal would have been like 55 or so plus tip. Overall, 1 out 10 give Applebees, a 7 out of 10. We had Rosa as our server and she made it very apparent that she was not having a good day and probably should've stayed home. Let's talk about the food though! We ordered the chips and queso which were delicious! It had the perfect amount of peppers and scallions. For my entree I ordered the grilled chicken with broccoli and mashed potatoes. The chicken has such a nice flavor and the mash was oh-so creamy. I really enjoyed it! My husband had the bacon cheeseburger with fries. He said it was excellent and cooked exactly the way he wanted and the fries were super hot and fresh. This was kind of a very disappointing find. To start off, we were originally going there to get soup considering it was 8pm at night and all the restaurants on the streets were either fast food places or pharmacies, it became hard to find a dine-in area with some real solid food. So we decided on applebees -- grabbing to go. We ordered outside and they had us wait in the car and stated that they would bring the food over when it's ready. It was done in a timely manner. On the way back I realized none of the Applebee food containers was able to be sealed properly. This caused a lot of leakages in the bag -- which I panicked considering I ordered soup holding the food in the passenger seat. Then -- as we arrive back I quickly laid the food down and tried to take a look -- everything we ordered was there BESIDES the soup! the only reason we went to this applebee in the first place was FOR the SOUP! I was extremely upset by this, and the fact that the mac and cheese was super watery, seemed like it was just mac and cheese drizzled with honey BBQ sauce smothered on top? the center was dead sweet and the sides were bland, and the whole mac and cheese was extremely watery? Which is kind of disgusting. (Side note: The flavored lemonade is probably the greatest one can ever get -- high recommend pomongrante if you must go there to dine) But as we began to try the other food, it was also weird tasting and all way too salty. Needless to say -- we ended up tossing our $82 worth of food... it was kind of un-eadible. I'll stick to the high desert Applebee's experience though for this review. The restaurant was lightly occupied which gave the impression that a cool draft was passing through it and that the music was a bit louder than it actually was. They played some generic country and rock and perhaps another genre besides those that went unnoticed despite the perceived volume. I guess sometimes I just want the generic experience. Too much control and focus can lead to hysteria, and sometimes I just need to drop the pretense and head into Applebee's for a smoke and a pancake. This time I had the fiesta lime chicken and my hungry-mungry, pregnant partner went for the classic cheeseburger. Both were delicious, in an Italian dressing kind of way. What's wrong with a little saturated fat and high fructose corn syrup? I'll tell you what, there was a server in there who's Chotchkies flair was positively infectious. Just to look upon her tiny smiling self was to shed a bit of life's malaise. I've NEVER had ribs this dried out, so disappointed. I also ordered boneless wings, assuming that they were chicken, but I have no idea what the meat was!
