I love the look of The Tap. It is sophisticated, a place where a grown up would have a beer. Always have a good experience, and the pizza is excellent. Sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive even though it was busy. I told him what I like and he made several on-point recommendations. I tried one of the in-house beers and it was perfect for fall. Smoky and just rich enough. Recommended. Most of the food here is underwhelming. I stick with the Finney restaurants because they have the quality I expect and deliver across the board. read more

Service: it was quick, to the point, and everyone was fairly friendly. Quickly seated, even on a busy night. Even the door person was friendly! One caveat/event though: we were seated outside, which is dog-friendly (A+). However, the door person furiously petted someone's dog. If you can imagine, a floof of this dog's hair (the dog looked liked the adorable, famous collie, Stains from an old show), landed on me while I was eating. Not so good. Food: wife ordered a chicken wrap. This was decent. I figured the testament of such an Americana themed Brewery would be a simple endeavor like the beer cheese burger; why not!? The fries itself were cold and D.O.A of flavor. The burger was really burnt on the bottom, charred. That all being said, if someone was checking food before it went out, they either did not look at mine or thought that was what good looks like. Recommendation to owners/PR person/etc. if something is placed on the menu, make sure it is served/cooked appropriately the first time. Otherwise, maybe just take it off the menu if it is too complicated. I would go back again, if there was a way to know they used some form of quality control. Until then, save your $$. read more

The place I went for lunch did not serve alcoholic beverages and I was in the mood for a beer, so I decided to stop in here. Let me tell you that this is a beer snob's paradise. Pretty much any style you're looking for, they have it. And they have several beers of their own, brewed on the premises. The first one I got was called "Midnight Fuel". It is an incredible coffee stout, which is probably my favorite kind of beer. It was very smooth. The second one I got was the Founders Backwoods Bastard Scottish Ale. Now normally I love Founders Beer. They are a great brewery from Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was not a fan of this one. It tasted like a Bourbon Barrel Brewed Beer, and I'm not a bourbon drinker, so normally I avoid those. But if you like those, I'm sure you'd like that. It was definitely strong. Given my experiment failed on the Founders, I opted to go with a familiar favorite for my last one, another great Michigan Beer, a Bell's Two-Hearted Ale from Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo. It never disappoints. I also had a cup of their chicken noodle soup, which was their soup of the day. It was pretty good. They had a decent looking food menu, I just wasn't really hungry. And my service was most excellent. If I lived in Bloomington, this would definitely be a frequent hang out. Highly recommended! read more

Now here are the reasons for each star: B.E.E.E.R. This place is a big tap house with beer from everywhere across the country, arguably the best town in the country and absolutely the best Big 10 school in the country. (Notice: Food does not come into the equation as they don't have a kitchen, just beer.) This tap house has a big open space with TV's everywhere. Would be an excellent spot to watch the game if you can't make it into Assembly Hall. Staff was extremely friendly and laid back. I mean c'mon it's a bunch of college kids serving quality ass beer! Here's the kicker: You can order delivery from just about any place in btown and they will literally bring it up to your table inside. So if you want mother bears and about 30 taps to choose from, you found your spot! Wish this place was here before I graduated! Be back soon! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Bloomington by far. There's a location in Indianapolis as well that I have heard is really popular! The atmosphere is casual but still remains a nice restaurant. The beer list is long, and the menu describes each one by color, taste, and alcohol content. It was super helpful to decide which drinks to pick! We ended up ordering 4 flights to sample and then each picked one to drink a full size of. I recommend the Brickyard Brew! I went back a week later to get a growler full of it, it was so delicious. The food is also super yummy at an excellent price. We ordered an appetizer, fries, and a pizza all to split. Basically it is higher quality bar food! This is a must visit for when parents or relatives come into town! read more

I hope this place turns out to be a hit. It's beautiful inside and comes with a great view of the square through huge plate glass windows. Definitely one of my go-to locations when I want to grab a beverage. Their selection on draft is pretty expansive, and will help accommodate everyone's taste buds or moods. I like that they do change it up based on the season, not just with their beers but their menu also has new monthly specials. Prices are pretty reasonable for a place that is definitely a level up from your "college bar", and their food is also pretty on par as well. Something about their pizza just keeps me coming back as well, I think it's because it's cooked fresh and has a really light and thin crust. Their burgers are also good, and they have a creative selection that rotates as well. Just a heads up that their seating is "seat yourself", so you may want to make sure that if you have a big group during prime meal hours you get there a little early to call dibs on a table. They also do trivia on various weekdays (I think on Tuesdays for sure), which is always a fun time. read more

I have visited this location a few times now with different company and well all really enjoyed it. The menu has a great selection from a cheese board to unique and delicious sandwiches. My favorites are the pulled pork sandwich and the firecracker shrimp tacos. Sooo good. The appetizers are large enough to feed 4 people and we love the tap tops and tap fries! Unfortunately have had an experience with 3 (in a row!) rude staff members not able to take 30 seconds to check on an UberEats order....which I waited over 1 hour (after "your order is ready") on. Soooooo not great. I understand being short staffed, but customer need to treated like customers and not misbehaving children. I am literally just looking for the status of the thing I purchased... I am very impressed with this place! I do not remember this on my previous trips down to Bloomington. The setup is awesome with the band stage on top of the bar. We stopped by the tap after looking for some local places to grab some drinks and dinner and seeing just how much they had on tap (appropriate)! We pretty much ordered that most decadent items we could find and tried a few drinks. I had a mead by New Day which was excellent (always love new days ciders/meads!) and husband tried an inhouse brew and another local IPA. For Food we had: Fried Pickles - SO good. We could have eaten another order of these The Potato Chip "Nachos" - Good, very rich (as one would imagine) but yes, we did finish them. Great bar food BBQ Pork Sandwich: Also very tasty, a nice sweet/tart bbq sauce which was good. Service was pretty good, our server got really busy at one point so we did wait awhile to order a second round (we probably would have gotten more drinks if it was quicker, but what can you do, she was basically running). I also wish there was something other than hightops because I am short..but oh well! Good value, good food, and great draft selection. read more

The Tap is one of my favorite restaurants to grab food and watch a game with friends. The atmosphere is really fun and there are plenty of tv's. If you're looking for something to share, definitely start with the tap fries, pretzel sticks with beer cheese, or the fire cracker shrimp. Their fries come with the best house seasoning and you cannot go wrong ordering them as a side either. As for an entree, the mac and cheese burger is sort of legendary among Indiana University students, but I prefer the BBQ mahi tacos. The ingredients are always really fresh and the service is generally good. I will say that it is disappointing that all guests have to be 21 because the food is so great! With that being said, the Tap is the only place that I have ever been asked for two forms of identification although I am well above legal age. While I cannot say enough positive things about this place, I will say that it is on the pricey side for American food. With that in mind, it is still worth visiting in Bloomington. read more

This place was amazing! The service was fast and friendly, and the food was divine. My coworker and I both wanted the burger of the month - The Haystack - but they were out of Gouda so we decided on other items. I ordered the turkey cranberry sandwich instead and really enjoyed it. I used to really enjoy the Tap, they've always had a great selection of beers and good food to boot. Recently, the food at the Tap has seemed to decline in quality. My favorite side/shareable has always been their classic tap fries, however the past few times I've gotten them the fries were semi soggy and the paprika spice was concentrated on the top 1/4 of the dish (poor naked under-fries!). This disappoints me because I love the fun of having four unique dipping sauces to try with my appetizer. Probably won't order the fries as a starter until I see improvement in the side dish version. I also ordered the Fried Green BLT recently and unfortunately the red tomato totally ruined the green one by sogging up the breading and making it fall apart. Also, their bacon is strange. All in all, I still will give the food another try because I used to delight in their tacos and seasonal burgers - maybe I ordered wrong! The venue is very classic beer bar for a college town and its a great place to meet friends because they have something on tap for everyone - even wine and root beer! The Tap is an interesting place best described by the word "okay". The food is okay (the fries are the best thing to order in my opinion), and not too expensive, and service is usually fine, but its biggest draw back is that it's so loud all the time. While trivia can be fun, its definitely not a place to go if you want to hear the other people around you. Which to be fair there is a time and place for that! The beer selection is massive, but it makes me question how fresh all the kegs can be when there are so many on tap at a time. Its really a jack of all trades master of none scenario. Everything is pretty well done, but nothing really stands out as being exceptional. All that being said, the beer they brew themselves is excellent. A large sports bar on the corner of Bloomington's square, lots of high-top seating, beers on tap, and TVs playing all the #sportz. We came in on a gloomy, chilly Saturday morning just before noon. I wouldn't doubt it gets nuts in the evening hours and on major sporting holidays. I ordered the infamous fries and Apple Pie beer. Both were winners! The Apple Pie beer came with a cinnamon-sugar dusted rim and that really added a great taste to it. The fries... wow. Those dipping sauces... omg. One thing I noticed-- that I've started to notice thanks to reading a fellow Yelper's reviews and really began taking recognition of since I'm able-bodied-- is how establishments cater toward those with disabilities. Um. The Tap could probably get into serious loads of trouble considering that the only wheelchair-accessible tables were outside. Seriously, everything was bar height. I'm giving this place five stars because the food is always on point and so is the beer. The Tap brews their own beers and also hosts other ranging though lacking Porters. I'm actually here to talk about the food. My haystack burger was prime and so heavy I had to take it home! Guacomole, bacon, 1/2 burger patty on a toasted brioche bun with tap fries and a delicious spicy mayo sauce on the side. Drool nation. We also had the fried green beans. Yes, order those too. The pork kettle chips I had on instance before and finished those in five minutes. Definitely do those. Tap fries are a classic here. My boyfriend had the shrimp tacos and they were on fire. This is one of my go-to's in Bloomington. Come here if you're trying to avoid the college crowd. Only the big kids come here. read more

I had the Three Floyds of Munster bavarian oktoberfest beer and it was a great accompaniment to my philly beef and cheese sandwich. The fries with the sandwich were salted nicely. Rather generous seating area for lunch, and a few seats outside on the Square. Excellent from start to finish; The beer, the food, the service, all of it was great. Their beer selection was extensive and has diverse enough options to satisfy people of all "beer backgrounds". The food was delicious (also not too pricey, especially considering how expensive Bloomington can be at times), and there are plenty of options. The atmosphere felt very "warm", and the layout is open and, to be completely honest, a tad lovely. The experience wasn't very good. First, I arrived without a mask, as is done in literally every restaurant in Indy, and they refused to seat me. I'd be okay with that, but the bar was completely full, and NO ONE was wearing a mask. So what, they only require a mask for walking 10 ft to your seat? Okay, done, fine. But then the service was atrocious. We had to wait 40 minutes to get our beers. I understand cocktails taking a long time, but Beer? Cmon. The beers were okay at best, nothing very special. Sun King in North Indy is better. Not to mention all of the staff were rude. Plenty of better bars in Bloomington, would certainly not recommend. read more
