We stopped by last evening for the first time, and oh my goodness... what a great experience!! Food was fantastic (we had the bourbon burger and the breaded tenderloin). The breaded tenderloin was so large, we had enough leftovers for dinner this evening... it fed both of us. So good! There was live music... also very enjoyable! Server was very friendly and did a great job. They're only a 35 minute drive up the road from us. We had no idea. We'll be back for sure. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. read more

Hoosier Bar & Grill is good. We went this evening to escape move-in week insanity in Bloomington. I had the "famous" pork tenderloin sandwich and a delicious Bell's Two-Hearted Ale on tap. My dinner dates had the pulled pork and the BLT. All of us were happy with our food. The service was what really stood out. Our server was delightful. She was friendly and helpful and when we told her we hadn't been there before she let us know what her favorite menu items were, and filled us in on their weekly events and specials. My brother-in-law was in town for a visit and had heard about Hoosier pork tenderloin sandwiches. My husband and I decided to give him an authentic Hoosier experience and take him to Hoosier Bar & Grill. I'd been to the Hoosier Bar & Grill with my gal group awhile back and had loved it. When we walked in, my BIL loved the ambiance. If we'd had time, he would have challenged us to a game of pool. He said several times, "now this is a REAL bar!" All of us had breaded tenderloin sandwiches and a beer. The food was excellent, flavorful and juicy with a crusty crust. And the portions were huge. I was not the only one who took part of her tenderloin home for lunch the next day! Our food came out hot and cleary freshly cooked. Our waitress (wish I could give her a shoutout but forgot to get her name) was attentive without being overly so and cheerful and welcoming. My wife and I stopped here on the way back from a trip to southern Indiana. We had a taste for Pork Tenderloin and this place did not disappoint! The Pork Tenderloin sandwiches here are huge, tender and flavorful. The fries were good too. The atmosphere here is typical "bar and grill"...large televisions, a bar, gaming machines, etc. Service was good but we felt bad for the server because he was the only one there. read more

The food was pretty okay. Not bad, the sandwich I got came out a bit cold. The coleslaw was good and the french fries were as well. I enjoyed the BLT and my friend had the grilled chicken sandwich. The service wasn't great. We saw some people came in and the waitress didn't come out so they got up and left. It is very dark in the restaurant and the bathroom smelled like dirty feet. I've always loved the what use to be the signature Reuben sandwich. What we got tonight was such a disappointment. Instead of Swiss cheese it was white American or something else. The sandwich wasn't grilled & wasn't the usual hearty marbled rye/pumpernickel. It's sad to see these changes in what the previous owner worked so hard to prefect & pass on fall completely short of. The restaurant itself needs a little remodeling to look nice. It has potential. The food is good and fairly priced. Not to mention the portions are huge. There is two sides to this restaurant: bar and family. Alcohol is not allowed on the family side. The bar seating is almost tripled that of family seating. I would recommend sitting on the bar side if you are 21, even if you aren't drinking alcohol. The service on that side is a lot faster than family seating (which i have experienced in the past). I have never experienced such bad service. I went here after a long day to enjoy dinner and a drink. Walked in, sat down and waited for service. After 5-10 mins a waitress comes to the table and asks what we'd like. I ordered a water and a whiskey and she refused to serve me! She said she could only offer me water because she thought I already had too much to drink... wtf? I wasn't being loud, I definitely had not been drinking, hadn't even had a single drink all day. She hadn't even been to our table yet but already had made some sort of judgment? What kind of bar chases off paying customers for no reason? Ruined my evening, thanks. read more

I am so glad I found this place. I have lived in Bloomington for only 4 years, originally from South East Michigan. I could not find a good hole in the wall bar like Michigan, until now. This place has the best food and a nice beer selection. I like to come on Fridays for the $6 Tenderloin sandwich with fries or upgrade to Onion rings for a $1. The best part though is the bartender, Ron. I ordered a pitcher of beer. He was so awesome because he put the pitcher in the fridge to stay cold while I drank my glass. Then when my glass got low, he refilled it for me. How sweet is that?!? read more

Their food is good but the staff and manager are not friendly and I was cused out by the manager WADE and the waiter CONNOR. These two guys called me names and I will never go back. I've been here once before the new ownership, and three times since the new ownership and COVID took over. The first time, I got the tenderloin. That thing was so huge you could order a spare bun and toppings and split the meat and it would still spill over the bun. Fast forward about a year: bar changed hands and the COVID was running the rules. I stopped with my mom and we both had the tenderloins. I expected your standard portion fare. NOPE! STILL HUGE! The third visit was a few weeks later, my husband and kids joined me. I got the fish sandwich, expecting something of the McDonald's variety... I got a whole filet of pollock on a hoagie bun. My husband ordered the club, which is a triple decker texas toast sandwhich with ham and turkey. Both of my kids got the burger kids meal, when they came out with the burgers my kids eyes became as big as dinner plates due to the sheer size of them, needless to say, they had doggy boxes. We also got the mushrooms with Cajun Ranch (highly recommend this sauce for EVERYTHING) and Bosco Sticks to share, also really good. The last time we visited is the reason for the long lost 5th star. We both ordered the chicken sandwich, i asked for grilled, he asked for crispy with buffalo sauce. The chicken was dry, the buns were wet, he got an extra crispy GRILLED chicken and no sauces at all. The wait time was so long this time around that he was already running late to get back to work so he just ate it so we could get back. We also had a long wait for service all around that day. They had gotten a little busy toward the end of our visit, but we had been there during busy days before and still had reasonable wait times when it came to asking for our check or to place our orders. Still, this is a restaurant I HIGHLY recommend. The staff is friendly and engaging. The food is HUGE, so when you pay $10 for a burger, you get a $10 burger (BK, take notes). They have paper menus due to COVID that you are welcome to take with you to place future call ahead take out orders. The staff are masked up and ask that patrons mask while not at their seats. After every guest leaves a staff member comes to the table to clean and disinfect it. Seating is at 50% capacity currently. We have not dined in at peak times, nor on game days, nor have we really utilized the bar, however the bar side has many tvs and a large projection screen so I can only imagine that game days are an event. read more

Tenderloin and Ribs are amongst their specialties. Have visited a few times and it was always mildly busy. Bar tenders were always attentive, humorous and down to earth. One time, I was with a friend reminiscing when the bartender nicely cut us off. We were a little shocked and reminded of how much we had and what that would look like if we were driving. The food is usually pretty good, and the prices aren't bad They have half priced appetizers on Tuesday after 4:00, except for their wings. However, some of the staff (including management) are often rude, and the service often leaves a lot to be desired. When I was in there last Tuesday, a man at the bar (beside myself and my friend, but we weren't with him) complained about his steak. The manager, Wade, and Konor, a member of the waitstaff confronted the man. At that point Konor pointed his finger at my friend and called her an effing bi*ch, saying that she's always causing trouble. To be clear, she frequents Hoosier's rarely, and has never caused trouble. The staff there is very cliquish, and will bar people they don't like for almost nothing. Hoosier has been my neighborhood bar for years, but I can no longer tolerate this behavior. This didn't happen when Lorna owned it, but she sold it about a year ago, and this is the result. read more
