Came here on a weekday in the evening and it looks just like a small house that was converted into a restaurant. There are chairs and tables outside for dining and I'm pretty sure there was a rocking chair close by... haha. This is definitely comfort food, and you will only see one thing that is vegetarian.... The staff was friendly and the service was good. I started out with the Red wine sangria but honestly it tasted like it was store bought. Probably the only this that wasn't good tasting in this entire place. The Prime Rib was amazing. I had the 10 oz and my buddy had the 14 oz. The meat was tender and mine was cooked well and very flavorable. After the Sangria I got one of the local drafts, I forgot what it was called but that complimented the steak a lot better than the wine. The tables are kind of close together and it was mainly family groups that were in Swansons. This isn't a place I would bring someone for an intimate date. So today I decided to go to Perry Ga. Walmart for a few needed things and while there have lunch. I don't eat much fast food and the choices are limited. I googled what was near thinking a nice salad would be good when I seen the Swanson. I went to the Yelp site to see what people thought about it and what they served. Mostly great reviews except one in which they mentioned the pot roast was overcooked. So I decided to go try the pot roasting at the Swanson. The Swanson is a beautiful old southern house with a rap around porch turned into a restaurant. Upon entering it was bright with light and yellow painted walls with all the old world features you would want to see. I was seated promptly and ordered sweet tea which seemed so appropriate. I ordered the pot roast with green beans and a cup of collard green soup as one of my sides with a nice house side salad. I'm not sure why someone would complain the pot roast was over cooked because I love when it is fall apart fork tender with small potatoes and carrots. Best pot roast ever and they givE you these little weird biscuits that actually taste amazing when I was dipping them in the pot roast gravy. I absolutely fell in love with the collard green soup and had to attempt to make it at home( came out wonderful). Soup had small chunks of ham and sausage with collard greens and navy beans. The waitress was so sweet and attentive I left an extra nice tip and I love a Manager/ owner that walks around and greets customers and checks to make sure everything is ok. I've since been back and had the pork chops, fried okra and Lima beans. Pork chops are battered in a light crispy batter and fried golden brown and juicy. Need I say more? This place is absolutely adorable from the outside and inside! The service was ok for a Saturday night. It was very busy and the waiter was very overwhelmed. They bring out these little biscuits that are gifts from above! They are sooooo good! The catfish was excellent. But nothing compares to that fried chicken! We were in town for my husbands disc golf tournament and decided to eat lunch at the Swanson! Rachel was a doll and made sure we would make it back to our tournament on time. I got the shrimp and catfish with cheese grits and a salad! Cheese grits are immaculate!! Shrimp could have more breading and catfish less cornmeal! My husband ordered the collard green soup and of course I had to try it! It was mouth watering especially with those little biscuits!! Mmmm! We ended up in Perry as a result of fleeing Hurricane Milton. We are from Iowa and were in Florida for only a week before the hurricane developed. When we got to town we wandered around the very cute downtown area where we saw the Swanson. The ambiance is pleasant and welcoming. The tables have clean white table cloths. The space is open and not crowded. The service was very good and the staff was very friendly. The food was very good and the prices were very reasonable. As we stood waiting to be seated I saw a staff member carefully giving each piece of silverware a final wipe before wrapping them in a white cloth napkin. That impressed me! read more

Some owners just ruin a great tasting restaurant with beautiful and attentive service, by treating MOST staff like handpicked maids while dismissing and excusing her family, who worked along side the regular servers & acted as though "they can't get fired". From other reliable servers in this industry; mixed with my own, first and only interaction which made a huge impact on my perspective of how The Swanson runs their establishment. As a respected veteran in the food service & table waiting business, we know how to play the part, right? Big beautiful smiles, the friendliest of welcoming you can get back home, and top star quality of service. We have tattoos, we cover them. We have piercings, they all get taken out before we even walk in the door. Same uniform shirts, same uniform shoes, same uniform smiles. My experience working there was very cut-throat, high stress, high preferences, what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant. Created friends within conversation with guests, turning them into Swanson regulars. I truly had the best experience working at the Swanson.. that is until after 5+ months of working there, I had the gracious opportunity to meet the owner, Kim Sheridan. She was very friendly and gave warm smiles and hellos at first, but unfortunately when several workers had walked away, she very quickly dropped her smile and in a harsh tone, accusing me of stealing, claiming I had stolen a salad, which her grandson, Chandler Stewar, made for me even after I said I wasn't hungry, and I didn't want it. Ignoring my protest and actual use of the word "No", it was made anyways and he wrote my name on it with bold, black letters. Her grandson, the cook, claimed it sitting there "waiting for me". She in turn looked into the computer system, see it hadn't been rung up. That's odd, right? So yes of course, I'd create my own assumptions. A simple question, assuming Chandler Stewart was correct and the salad was indeed mine "waiting on me" but not in the system, that could've been inquired, even queried. Instead Mis. Kim Sheridan, boldly accused me of stealing from her company, being irresponsible with the cooks time spent that could be "make food for people who can actually pay it", and even went as far as picking apart every single detail of my physical appearance with disgust, from the color of my hair, my makeup wasn't "classy enough", AND without letting me atleast try and defend myself against a stealing accusation, to tell her I didn't want or ask for a salad I knew I wasn't going to eat, with tears in my eyes hearing the way I look as a person was, hearing how far down she was putting me, in front of her husband no doubt who heard everything, I was fired on spot. My coworkers after hearing and some witnessing the whole thing, some of the nicest people ive ever worked with, cried with me and hugged me. Saying how sorry and cruel her words and actions were. Never EVER felt so disrespected and torn apart like I did in those mere 5 minutes. So yeah guys, if these kinds of people you want to work FOR not with, go for it. We were just in town overnight on a road trip and happened on this historic building with a beautifully arranged restaurant in a former home. From start to finish it was a lovely experience. This is a casual environment; reasonably priced with high quality food. Joshua, our server, greeted us warmly as we sat down. He was extremely polite and provided knowledgable suggestions. Hubby had the beef tips; I splurged and had the fried chicken which is cooked to order so the chicken is moist but it is not greasy at all. Beautiful building, and they attempted to accommodate our larger party. Everything we tasted, from the fried green tomatoes to the biscuits to the chicken n dumplings was so SALTY! Much of the food was overdone and one of our children had an issue with their food being burned. Instead of just removing the meal from the ticket, they refused and stated they would bring him something different. They did try. The desserts were lacking depth and flavor altogether. Basically a mass making of cheap ingredients to suffice their Sunday crowd. I will say the fried chicken was crispy but because it was so salty, you couldn't enjoy it. The big male eaters in our crew did not clean a single plate which says a lot of the seasoning of the food considering they were all extremely hungry on the way in. Went to The Swanson in Perry Ga. On recommendation of a friend of my daughter . We had never been downtown Perry before this trip . The Restaurant sits on a Street Corner and is a very nice Old House made into a charming and inviting place to visit and eat . The Staff Greet you at the Door with Southern Charm and Hospitality ! The Food was more than we expected . Very delicious, tasty and seasoned just right . Our Waitress Angel did a superb job from beginning to end . The cost was modest in comparison to most Restaurants now days . We were impressed and plan to make it one of our favorite places to go in the future. My family stopped here while traveling last week and it was the best meal we had on our entire trip! The town in general was adorable and we will definitely be back to explore the little shops. The house that The Swanson is inside is lovely and has a great story (you'll have to read the front of the menu!). The menu is full of southern home-cookin' options at reasonable prices. My family loved everything we had. My parents especially enjoyed the pear salad and I especially enjoyed the deviled eggs and little biscuits. Even the pickles are homemade - and they're great too! I'm not sure if the area has any pandemic related mandates currently, but all employees were wearing masks and customers were spaced apart within the restaurant (we had our own room for a while).
