SO GOOD! The description "old cafeteria style", while technically true, you never had food this good in any cafeteria! Driving North from Florida, we wanted dinner and preferred not fast food, but good food served efficiently. Well we hit that out of the park by ending up at The Oil Lamp. My friend had the chicken & mashed potatoes (these are the real deal!!). I had the beef tips on gravy over mashed potatoes. We shared sides of braised cabbage that had a fair amount of garlic - I will be thinking about it, yes thinking about cabbage - first time for everything. We also shared creamed corn and this is NOT from a can. The corn was so sweet and there was a crunch to it, which only fresh corn can give. Everything looked delicious. I eyed those desserts, but I'd finished my plate and just no more room. I live like 4 hours away, but I'm hoping to time my return trip to return to this gem. This isn't fancy, it's good food that has been cooked by chefs that know how to cook old school. Last note - generous portions. read more

A walk up line like an old cafeteria type where you get your protein and whatever starch or vegetables you want. And seat yourself. Very friendly people and the food was good. read more

Prior to going, I'm not sure why I thought of this place as a "greasy spoon"...it was more of a cafeteria. Much more updated and cleaner than anticipated. Upon entry, you go to the right to get in line and order. There is a sign with daily specials (you can also check out their Facebook page!). Up first are the trays and silverware and then the salad bar. After that are some entrees and sides they dish out for you. We ordered the rib-eye meal which comes with a side and bread but you can add whatever you want! I think it was $29, which at first seemed a little expensive, but my brother and friends assured me was definitely worth it! We also grabbed a drink and some dessert. All of the employees were very kind and welcoming. We went right at 5 on a Thursday evening so there was plenty of seating. The tables were big and there was room for all 10 of us (that's why we went early!) The food...was amazing! The steak was PERFECT. I asked for it medium and it was medium. So tender and flavorful! My brother wasn't lying when he said it was worth it. I also had the loaded mashed potatoes - excellent, biscuit-yummy, and the chocolate peanut butter pie- OH MY! I will definitely be returning to this establishment. We really enjoyed it. read more

Great mom and pop restaurant!!! Home cooked food and friendly service. Would recommend for anyone looking for exactly that. Will 100% go back when passing through the area. read more

Service and hospitality were excellent. We had read how this was great home cooked food so we were disappointed that the ribs were very tough, the shredded beef was without good flavor and the country fried steak was more like meat loaf. Our visit to Perry, Ga would have been better at Cracker Barrel. read more

Food was amazing customer service was lovely and kind. Clean professional and sweet treats galore I wish I had pictures but me and my bf demolished the plates read more

The food was fresh, great tasting, almost too much food for me! They have a lot of choices! The desserts are great! The service was great!

Cold fish, undercooked hushpuppies, overcooked meatloaf and children allowed to run ALL OVER the restaurant. Not Good at ALL. WAY overpriced. $31.00 for 2 simple meals.$3.00 for a bottle of water. Not worth the Hassle of a quiet GOOD meal. read more

Just left the Oil Lamp Restaurant in Perry and as always the meal was great as was the staff. I had the steak tips and gravy over rice, cabbage, okra with tomatoes and onions, corn bread muffin. I am taking my apple nut caramel pie home to have later with a cup of coffee. I am stuffed with good food and ready for a nap when I get home. Give this restaurant a try if you haven't already if you are in the mood for home cooking, you won't be sorry! read more

Great place. Really nice selection cafeteria style service with wonderful, friendly wait staff. Had a great lunch with plenty of food and good dessert choices also. Don't pass it by. read more

We just ate at the Oil Lamp Restaurant on 401 Courtney Hodges Blvd. It's like a little Morrisons or Piccadilly. Southern style food with generous portions. Scott got a huge hamburger steak. I started to get the fried chicken but got the barbecue ribs. The meat was falling off the bone. For veggies we got mashed potatoes, green beans, turnip greens. Lima beans and broccoli cheese rice casserole. Including both drinks and tip it was right at $35 for both of us. Open 11-8. Quick, easy and filling. And a local business. read more

I waited 300 miles all day to have some southern cooking and The Oil Lamp served it up right! It's cafeteria style and being a Yankee I was overwhelmed with the choices. I went with the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, stuffing, turnips, black eyed peas, and pecan pie. It was all really good. And the price was about what you'd pay for dinner somewhere else. The young ladies running the counter and serving the tables were very pleasant and helpful! We were driving to Florida from Indiana and I found this on the map. Glad we made the choice to stop. read more

Ok this isn't going to be on food network anytime soon...........but it should great food at a great price. Family owned, clean excellent value, and super nice people. Its nice to see a place where you can just friggin eat and not have to navigate Achim's Razor. Lots of gravy, gluten, meat, stuff fried, baked, on a steam table and again just drop dead delicious. I'm in Perry almost once a month and they're open reasonable times. If you get a chance to stroll down Gen Courtney Hodges hope your travels take you here. read more

I was visiting the area. I ordered 1 meat plus 3 sides. I received meat, 1 side (black eye peas), cornbread. No cabbage was written on top of the container. I ordered white chicken, turnip, cabbage, and black eye peas. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. Cornbread was a little burned and dry. I will never go there again. The employees seemed nice. read more

This is a great country restaurant with fresh homemade foods. I love the cafeteria style line that you go through to select the items you want. All food is freshly prepared. read more

We used to like this place, but recently, the prices have gone up while the portions have decreased. The amount of meat, especially the sides, is very small. The container for the salad bar is also quite small. Additionally, they charge a 10% fee for to-go orders. read more

By far one of my favorite places to eat! We go every time we are in the area. Turnip greens are amazing! Haven't had anything bad from here. Staff is nice! Old town diner feel. read more

It's just okay nothing to rave about. The food could be a little more seasoned if you ask me. Different choices different days. Desserts are pretty good different cakes and pies made fresh. Even though they are usually packed to oblivion they move the line pretty quick. Little country kitchen feel. read more

Went through Georgia recently and the ladies at the Visitor Center recommended Oil Lamp in Perry. Yum!! So good. Roast beef with all the good sides. When in Perry, Georgia Oil Lamp is excellent. The ladies offered to heat my pie too and add ice cream!! The pie was good on its own. We will definitely be back whenever we are in a Perry again.. read more

Oil Lamp Restaurant - Roast beef, loaded mashed potatoes, green beans, creamed corn, corn bread, and chocolate chip pecan pie, - New American Near Me - Perry, Georgia

I'm not from Georgia, and I was traveling yesterday with a group of co-workers on a business trip. By noon, we were all starved, and since the Oil Lamp was less than a mile up the road, we decided to give it a try. The end result can be described with one word: Outstanding. The Oil Lamp Restaurant serves southern comfort food, and trust me, you will be very comfortable. It's a cafeteria-style place, where you slide your tray from right to left down the line, selecting from a wide range of home-cooked offerings. All the usual favorites are represented, including a killer okra and tomato dish. What really stood out was the service. This place was absolutely bursting at the seams with southern hospitality, and it's obvious that the owners really do care about their customers. That's a far cry from what we often get up north, where food service workers often act like they're doing you a favor just by acknowledging you. Not here though. I invite you to check out the Oil Lamp for lunch someday, and you'll see what I mean about the food and the atmosphere. I rarely give 5-star reviews, but I did today. You've earned every star. read more

Excellent home cooking. Cafeteria style. Lots of choices. The ambiance was a little lacking, but the staff were friendly and helpful read more

I always love small town, cafeteria style dining. This place didn't disappoint. The salad bar was simple but filled with fresh produce and toppings, the hamburger steak was tender. The sides were hot and homemade. And the service was top shelf!! We'll be back!!! read more

This is a good lunch spot . The portions are wonderful and the prices are some the best I seen in awhile. The place is really close knit type of vibe read more

What a nice surprise. I honestly went in with an open mind and low expectations being a cafeteria style restaurant. But I have to admit the ribs and fried chicken were absolutely perfect. Loaded mash potatoes and cheesey steamed broccoli were good compliments. As other reviewers have said, staff was warm and very helpful. Would definitely recommend. read more

You can't visit Perry and not stop here! The food is great, the service is better. It's cafeteria style service, with southern cooked foods! I usually stick to a meat and 2 veggies. The roast beef is probably my favorite, but honestly you can't go wrong with anything. And those rolls! They have a huge selection of pies, and usually a few cakes. I am more of a cake girl, so you gotta get there early to snag some cake. read more

Oh.my.Goodness! What a little piece of heaven on earth. This family-owned cafeteria-style restaurant serving down home food exceeded expectations! The service was caring and attentive, the owner gracious, and THE FoOD... if you are "hankering" for collard greens, pot roast, ribs, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, other favorites, and homemade pies, this is the place. A nice day trip drive from Atlanta or Macon. Or if you're on a road trip going north or south. It's worth the stop. You'll be welcomed. And you'll be happy you came. $10-$20 per person including the pie! See Geri if she's working - she'll take care of you! read more

Great place. They are a meat and three that change daily. Everything has been good. This is a good place to get pie.

This is Southern style cooking. The food is delicious and the staff are courteous. I tend to think they overcook the food. However, the pies are to die for! read more

Driving through stopped for a yummy lunch. Will definitely stop next time we pass through. Friendly people and good food!

Service was great. Sweet tea was great. Turkey dressing and cabbage were too salty for me. Husband enjoyed his food (ham)

The Mennonites own this cafe restaurant, you'll walk the food select what you want and pay at the end per piece selection. The food is like sitting down at grandma's table and you'll like every selection. If your passing Perry and want to fill both your tanks then this is an easy in and out just a few blocks from exit 134 on Courtney Hodges Blvd, around the corner from the North entrance of the acclaimed GA National Fair! read more

Very good! One star off because there were not prices anywhere, and the two people at the register couldn't agree on the price of my dad's food. For sure get the caramel apple pecan pie and carrot soufflé - yum! read more

Delicious and quick dinner stop not far off the interstate. Worth the short drive to avoid "fast food" restaurants.
