Probably the best spot I tried in Cancun, I cam here multiple times. The first time I had grilled chicken wings, cajun style. And it was the best jerk I've ever had. The meat was so juicy and soft with a big portion of rice, beans and plantains. Another time I had the coconut shrimp with fries and it was amazing. I truly felt full afterwards, each piece was big and well marinated with great side sauces. The environment is great as the place is not too far from the beach, and with a good music in the background. Note the prices are little bit expensive compared to what would expect in cancun. But overall its worth it

Really delicious and filling meal. The smoothie was fresh and big enough to share for two people. The breakfast burrito was huge and had a good balance of ingredients. Shrimp tacos were really good although I wasn't expecting so much beans. Service was quick and seating is good when not too busy. Staff answered any questions we had about the menu items. Chill spot for a morning meal and getting energy for the rest of your day.

My first time in Mexico. And somehow I end up staying across the street from this place?!? What luck! I got the shrimp and Mahi burrito and my wife had the shrimp and Mahi tacos. I didn't try hers because hers was kinda like mine. We both got spinach soft shells too. She also got a watermelon vodka drink that was huge. It's a really cool set up and fine outdoor eating. The only real downside is all the people who are not a part of the restaurant trying to sell you cocaine.

Best tacos we had in Cancun, incredible (and large) classic margarita. Laid back vibes, just steps outside of the very crazy hotel district. You can build your own tacos/burrito. I got surf and turf tacos, my husband got jerk chicken. Both were seasoned to perfection. Staff was friendly, attentive and engaging.

I came here here for breakfast with my friend while we were staying in Cancun, and the surfing burrito definitely hit the spot. We both ordered custom breakfast burritos, which were absolutely packed and so delicious. Interestingly, when we were there, they were out of both of the original, and the whole wheat wraps, so we had to go with the flavored ones. We also shared one of the smoothies, which was absolutely delicious. It comes in a 1L jar, which is quite large, so the two of us were able to share it. The spot is quite cute, they definitely small, and has basically three bar style tables with stools. We didn't have any issues finding seats, though I could see this place getting quite busy. The music was also excellent and a total vibe. I have to take off one star because their credit card machine was not working at the time so we had to pay in cash.

Saw this spot on Triple D and when we planned a trip to Cancun, I put it on my list. If you're in the hotel zone, it's right in there and easy to get to by city bus or walking (if you're close). As others said, it's got three small tables outside and it's next to a circle k (think mini mart/ gas station store). Service was friendly and the menu is in pesos. They do take credit cards. Be prepared for a bit of a wait on food. Margarita was huge and refreshing on a hot, humid day. It's worth a trip,

First time in cancun and this place by far gave us the "mexican" food taste we were looking for. After a few hiccups at tourist dumps in the hotel zone. Finally picked the right spot! Food was so good we went two days in a row I wish I was rich I would fly down to it weekly. Great service great staff amazing food. I would never disrespect this place and call it a hole in the wall. This tiny spot is HUGE in everything they offer. Everything made cook to order and from scratch!

TLDR : Great food, nice service and refreshing drinks Surfin Burrito was a the only joint we ended up repeating during our 4 day stay in cancun. This place is small and has community style 3 long tables to be shared. With a local Mexican joint feeling Surfin Burrito did not disappoint. Their burritos were great, the shrimp ceviche was amazing and the nachos were ok.

super, super small shack, barely any place to sit. bf and i got lucky. came around 5pm new years eve you order and pay first. service is kind of slow. food is delicious though, just unpretentious, casual tacos/burritos. if you wanna use the bathroom, you'd have to walk through the kitchen where you'll witness behind the scenes. it's clear that the kitchen doesn't prep ahead of time and makes food fresh. bf and i ordered a lime margarita but ended up getting served a passionfruit margarita. we also ordered a fried "catch of the day." turns out the catch of the day was nothing because when we got our tacos, there wasn't any meat. but it took my boyfriend and i a while to realize that because the tacos was covered in sauces and veggies (still tasty tho). we told the waiter who then brought over tacos with the actual catch of the day (fish). but funny enough, still don't know exactly what fish we ate since we weren't told what it was and couldn't be bothered to ask again.

Food was fantastic, husband actually wants to hit it again before we leave town!! He had the red burrito (chipotle) steak and chicken with habanero sauce! I had the Quesobarrio that was awesome as well! The drinks were also good Barbie Mezacali and the jagerbomb. Service was quick and helpful.. and the ambiance was fun!

Great little hole in the wall, literally! Great food, plenty of choices for millennials as well as the rest of us! Just three shared tables on the street next to OXXO and Circle K. Great eats and drinks! Great looking blended drinks and cold beers!

All-in-all it was worth the inconvenience. Very eclectic menu, warm atmosphere and outstanding service. I started withe the Mango-Tamarind: Lettuce, Indian walnut, mango, blueberries, Cotija cheese, mango-habanero dressing and tamarind billet. Unique and tasty. "Swiss Chicken Enchiladas" for the main course was not what you get at a local Mexican joint -- Four tortillas stuffed with chicken, bathed in a creamy tomatillo sauce with melted cheese and a base of refried black beans. This was a 5-star dish! I couldn't resist ordering a side dish though I didn't need to because the enchiladas were really enough, so I indulged myself with fries: these were not your run of the mill French fries. Porfirio's Potatoes -- French fries with chipotle pepper aioli, parmesan cheese and parsley. Finally, if you like ice cream I highly recommend that you order BOTH offerings: 1) "ICE CREAM TASTING" - Strawberry ice cream, chocolate ice cream from Metate, marzipan ice cream and vanilla from Papantla. Served with grated coconut, chocolate grain, M&M's, Oreo cookies and ice cream cones; and, 2) "PORFIRIO'S MOLECULAR ICE CREAM" - served with cajeta Worcestershire sauce in an ice cream cone. (I know it sounds disgusting right? Nope it worked. The chef is just showing off with this dish)

I took some notes and this is what I thought of the dishes. Xoajacan Imoladas - The mole is perfection. The flautas, superb. Everything in this plate is a symphony of what I would expect from Xoajaca. 9.5/10 Barbacoa Bonemarrow - Barcacoa is on point. The Marrow is Sublime. Together with the accompaniments is superb. I dream of Marrow everyday. This is a 10/10 Yellow fin Tosatadas - Superb!!! One of the best tostadas I have ever had. The microgreens, the sauce and the square Tostada works well all together. 8.8/10 Salmon - Cooked perfectly. The corn is a great accompaniment. The fish is impeccably seasoned. This dish is heaven sent with a 9.8/10 Grilled Octopus - Grilled perfectly, I can tell by the texture. The mash is superb, they used margarine instead of butter and I absolutely love the contrast from the traditional mash. 9.8/10 Mexican Rice - Its pretty good. It does have a nice seafoodish finish. The pepper was actually spicy. Nice and pleasant rice dish. 8/10 Charred Avocado Salad - Grilled avocado is a bit of a wash. It did make it look good on the plate. The dressing is a little weak. Needs a little more zip, some citrus or vinegar would give this salad some justice. Its a little uninspired 7/10 Service is impeccable and attentive and the atmosphere is lovely.

Many of the dishes have strange ingredients that the regular gringo hasn't heard of, which makes this even more exotic! I consider myself a mexican food expert, to some degree, and they're serving dishes that are so inventive, so wild, so fresh, so delicious! The dining area is split between a covered outside area, and seating on the grass overlooking the lagoon. Be careful, there's alligators in there! The service was fantastic- the waiter was patient, spoke English, and made excellent recommendations. I got fish with peppers, octopus ceviche, and some mezcal, followed by a honey and anise Mayan drink. All of which were delicious! My dining companion had a strange pepper with some fish- also nom! But, after debating and reading some reviews, we decided to call (at 7pm) and see if La Buena Barra had any open tables for 7:30. Since Cancún dinner culture generally ramps up after 8, we were in luck and headed to the restaurant. We were warmly greeted by the host team and escorted promptly to a great table outside, overlooking the lagoon and the last bits of sunset in the sky. The ambience of La Buena Barra is amazing, great lighting, ceiling fans to keep a light breeze going, and music that is loud enough to prevent you from hearing conversations at other tables, but still allowed us to talk just fine. Our servers Jonathan and Estefany were the sweetest and most attentive that we experienced during our trip! Excellent food recommendations, even advising against getting a second dessert (due to their size) instead of just letting us spend more money there. Absolutely worthy of 5 star service! Ok- the food: very good, probably some of the more distinct flavors we enjoyed in Cancun. Also a very unique selection of cocktails, delivered in all sorts of unique glasses. BUT truly the best thing we ate was the corn ice cream! It's molded ice cream that looks exactly like an ear of white corn with a ribbon of dulce de leche in the center- honestly the best ice cream I've ever eaten at a restaurant! Prices per person can easily exceed $1000 pesos here depending on what you get, but it's possible to enjoy the experience on a budget. We shared an appetizer (empanadas, highly recommend), shared a large entree (ribeye tacos, comes with 7), a cocktail, side of corn, and dessert- ended up being around $1200 plus tip.

I will say, right off the bat, this place is loud if you're hear during peak meal time. While the mariachi band was a nice added touch, it only exacerbated the already loud dining experience. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic meal, this isn't the place for you. But if you're ok speaking up a bit throughout the meal, do not pass on this restaurant. I opted to try things that I wouldn't easily find at a restaurant, even in Los Angeles where I live. That meant I tried an aztec corn soup for my appetizer (it tasted like liquid corn bread and I say that as a compliment) and then for my main I tried a Molcajete Mixto. It was absolutely amazing. The best way I could explain it is a Mexican bibimbap. Each of the 3 types of meats were grilled perfectly, the special cheese was mild, but had a really great texture to it. The bits of cactus were cooked to perfection where they were soft, but with just the right amount of bite to it. I gobbled that dish up so quickly and considered asking if I could have another one. If I wasn't already stuffed I absolutely would have. It was probably the single best dish I had the entire week I was in Cancun. I've now made it my quest to find somewhere near me where I can get something even remotely comparable. I also appreciate that they had 'kid cocktails.' All 3 of my boys felt so adult sipping on their special mocktails. Our wait staff was a tad out of sorts, they would often say they were going to grab something for us (i.e. a high chair) and then completely dissapear. In the case of the high chair we just ended up finding one ourselves. But I think this issue stemmed from them just being so busy and slightly overstaffed. When they were with us, they were nothing short of fantastic. Honestly, if I ever return to Cancun, I will absolutely be returning here. It was that good. It makes getting the all inclusive package worthwhile. I will, however, avoid going on mariachi night.
