We decided to stay at the resort for lunch. The place is a small poolside restaurant. The server was very nice. The guava margarita was excellent. We waited around 45 min to get our appetizer likely because they were busy filling all the hotel to go orders. The server gave us a complimentary guacamole to compensate. Gave Duna Sports Bar a shot when in Cancun, in Westin Lagunamar Resort. The atmosphere a service was good and food options as well. They have great burgers and the Shrimp Quesadilla was off the hook. We ordered room service a couple of times and everything was great except for the Jalapeño poppers. When ordering online it says they come stuffed w/ ground beef, wrapped in bacon, and pepper jack cheese sauce. They sound delicious, but that's NOT what we got. No, plain poppers w/ cream cheese inside and no dressing or sauce for dipping at all. That's like Hot Wings w/ no sauce and no blue cheese or ranch dressing. I couldn't let this go, I called up to complain and they offered another item. I know I am not the only one to complain, but if you don't have it, then take it off the website menu. We ended getting a shrimp quesadilla for the inconvenience, so they made the Wifey happy. I bet if they actually had what was described, they would have been delicious. Inside The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas & Spa in Cancun is Duna Sports Bar. We landed this evening at 5:15 pm and by the time we got our luggage, the shuttle dropped us off, our room was assigned and we were in casual clothes, it was already 9:10 pm. Why not just stay onsite and walk to this venue? It was a no brainer. To begin with, Duno ran out of Corona Extra on a Saturday night! What? Pacifico 4.5% became the saviour...to tee up our meal. Lagunamar Chicken Wings - served with vegetables and ranch dressing, Cajun spices and Buffalo sauce Pastor Tacos - pork served with grilled pineapple, onions, coriander and red and green Mexican sauce King's Burger - served with 2 eight ounce pieces of Angus beef, lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese + onion rings Simply said, the food was bland; sauces exempted. Hamburger was delicious but the margaritas we ordered tasted like they were virgin. We asked the waiter where the tequila was and asked for more tequila. We found out that they only pour 1.5 ounces of tequila in each margarita. So if you go, ask for an additional ounce. An extra ounce makes a difference so just do it. read more

The staff is fantastic. Hard working team that keeps things moving (although the food can be a slow). Ambiance is lacking - essentially a zero character airport bar. Food was pretty mediocre and expensive. I'd recommend sticking to the Mexican options, although my son had the hot dog and that actually looked pretty good (and big too). Good TVs for watching American sports / international soccer, if that's of interest. Be prepared to pay prices that would be high in any sports bar in the States. read more

I decided to just walk around Cancun during the day then enjoy room service. I ordered pizza, chicken fingers, salad, hamburger, ub sandwich, piña colado and Miami Vice - which is a mixture of piña colada and strawberry Margarita...... sooooo good and refreshing! Lemon meringue pie, chocolate mousse, and carrotcake and chocolate cake. Pizza- 3/5 the pizza needed to be cooked more. I don't like light-skinned pizza. Plus, 1 pepperoni per slice. Oh no. Will not order again. Chicken fingers and French fries- 4.5/5 decent meal chicken tenders could be a little bigger but I had two meals from it so there was a lot. Fries were delicious! Salad 6/5 So yummy Ceasar salad! What more can I say? It was yummy and so delicious ! Yum! Hamburger with fries 3.5/5 no cheese like I like it. Flame broiled perfection. The bun was huge! Bigger than the hamburger so I tried to trim it off but the lettuce was coming off too. I need my lettuce, lol. Finally got the bread off with keeping myettuce intact. The burger was grilled and so tasty. You could tell it was nonhormonal cows. The meat tasted a little sweet as non hormonal organic meat does. Desserts were all good! Will patronize again! read more

We came here a few times during our stay because it was in our hotel. And it was more affordable that the other on-site restaurant. Service was always suuuuuper slow. The food was decent enough. Tasty and what was expected. Not spectacular. They are the restaurant that provides poolside and bar service in the pool areas as well. Terrible. After long day of travel we wanted to stay on-property to have our first meal of the day, and it was late. We were seated immediately but then the wait began. Someone finally came to the table 15 minutes later and we ordered drinks and food- since we had so much time to review the menu. 20 minutes later drinks finally arrived, nothing fancy, a margarita and can of beer. Drinks gone, no reorder as no one ever came back. Food comes 15 minutes later and we order second round while server captive. Fried fish tacos - bad- fried fish on greasy tortillas, cold and over cooked, no garnish just bad fish and tortillas. Our order of ceviche had no protein! How is it ceviche without fish/shrimp/squid?? They brought chips and salsa that were inedible, fried to a crisp, swimming in grease, nasty. Took us 90 minutes and wasted $100+, will not return. Much better options a few steps off the hotel's property. Don't know about the other restaurants on Westins property but this one is awful. read more

One of the reasons I was excited about this hotel; Westin Lagunamar is because of the advertising of wellness and nutritional offerings that distinguishes them from the pack. For this reason I am especially disappointed in the options available particularly at this particular restaurant. My second visit to this restaurant I bit into a chunk of beef or pork in my vegetable quesadilla. It was soaked in grease as well. When I brought it to my waiters attention he informed me he didn't know why the cook hadn't listened to him? No apology, just a suggestion to come back to speak with the manager the next day! I was charged for a chicken quesadilla because vegetable quesadilla wasn't on the menu. When I told him I wanted to pay in pesos he informed me I didn't have that option because they had closed the register an hour early. I proceeded to pay with card and tipped him in cash. This restaurant disgusts me and hands down offered me the WORST Mexican food I've experienced anywhere in the world. Interesting I had this experience while in MEXICO! You been warned, if you have ANY dietary restrictions (religion, preference, allergy) I would caution eating here. Mistakes happen, however, they didn't even acknowledge that it was a issue that they just fed me meat, even worst possibly pork! Ate here for lunch with a few girlfriends while I was on vacation. It was raining outside so we came in to get some lunch! I had a chicken wrap and a Caesar salad both were decent. Nothing amazing but was good enough for lunch. I also had the bloody mary which was okay as well, not my favorite. I went to dinner last night and ordered octopus tacos! We are owners here and have always enjoyed the food here at the resort. Unfortunately our experience here last night was not good. The octopus tacos were extremely dry and chewy. I had to ask a couple of times to get more water and the service was not what I'm used to. The sauce on the octopus tacos tasted like something That came out of a bottle and not unique at all. Hopefully this is not a trend with this restaurant. The ONLY reason to dine at this over-priced "sports" bar is because you are staying at the Westin, the other resort restaurants are closed, and you are too tired to drag your lazy ass out. Been there, done that. Food is mediocre. Pizza had a soft crust, can't even call it thick crust. The flat bread with shrimp and heart of palm was buried under gooey cheese and was soggy. How did the chef include this as a "healthy" choice? Oh, because the version pictured actually looked healthy. The "healthy choice" turkey sandwich was 2slices of a funky, pink, highly-processed meat product on stale bread with tasty avocado. When I asked the waiter if it was turkey or ham he responded, "It's turkey ham!" Then scurried off to disappear until the end of the meal. As a Westin vacation owner (euphemism for time share) I will return to the resort, but will stock up on food for the villa at the Selecto Super Chedraui supermarket. read more

Our first night in Cancun, we decided to eat on property at our resort (Westin Lagunamar). Duna looked like a great place to grab a burger and watch some basketball (since it was March Madness time). We found a booth in the back and ordered drinks which took a long time to arrive. My mom and I ordered a cocktail while my husband ordered a beer. We also ordered a bottle of water. The service just to get the drinks was slow. My mom and I both ordered burgers which I would rate as B- at best. There was a lack of flavor. My husband ordered the pepperoni pizza which he thought was okay, but nothing he would be rushing back to. The food was okay, the service incredibly slow and that is why I would probably only give it 2.5 stars if that was an option. read more

The nachos are fantastic and so are the cocktails. Try the drink called "Miami Vice" it's a mixture of piña colada and strawberry daiquiri, it's so good, you will not regret it! As an attempt to balance out tacos, nachos and piña coladas over the course of the week, today I tried the turkey breast sandwich. To much dismay, I received cold turkey slices, with three thick layers of bread to over compensate. It was quite bland, and I was actually surprised the menu description failed to mention that by turkey breast, they meant cold slices.. The restaurant does not accept cash, so your tab can either be charged to your room or a separate credit card. Unless you are absolutely starving and on your last limb, walk a little farther and get your money's worth. read more

My second spring break at the Westin Villas Laguna Mar. That's how great the beaches are here folks, no joke.... the sugary sand, the turquoise water and free flowing tequila.... it's all that and no worms at the bottom of the bottle..... only grown ups here. So when we come here we really do want to stay "on campus" for the most part, with an occasional excursion, but this being home base.... they should have options that are solid and competitive. Over the last two years, Duna has been the "sports bar" selection of the Westin lineup and to that degree, they do have several flat screens showing international sports like soccer and basketball (March madness abounded), and the menu is large and generous in offerings with attentiveness to those looking for healthy, gluten free and vegetarian options. We've been several times now for both pub food and for more expansive dinners so I have a decent vocabulary of "things tried" by which to review this restaurant. Yesterday was a pub food day: salmon and shrimp tacos, guacamole, calamari etc. Nothing stood out in terms of flavor or creativity-- the salmon tacos were gluten free served on corn tortillas but they were not doubled up, so said tortillas, once wet, pretty much disintegrated making it an unwieldy dish to handle. The shrimp tacos came on flour tortillas and were adorned with caramelized onions. Seemed like a steak topping... not one I would pair with shrimp. The ceviche app was the best offering... a huge portion of shrimp, octopus and what I thought could be snapper adorned with pico de Gallo and avocado..... more than enough for 4 people I would think though just us two finished it off just fine...... the calamari was bland, large and clumsily breaded.... barely touched by the table. The tequila was awesome though. Thank you Don Julio!!!! A bit later during our stay we were forced to go to Duna again as the fancier main restaurant had a "Mexican buffet" night, which we were just not feeling..... more chips and guac?? Nah..... how about a great wine and a perfect steak? We tried this at Duna believing that the kitchens are within throwing distance. Now luckily we ordered the ceviche once again so I indulged freely in this dish but the main was disastrous-- first off the wine list is a mystery. I did not recognize anything on it thus I could not decipher the markup let alone anything I could choose with any conviction. When the entire red wine list does not contain anything from Italy or California but mostly offerings from Argentina, Mexico or Australia...... I'm just not feeling grounded. We chose a middle of the road cab from wherever and ordered a NY strip med rare and a Vascio "flap" steak also medium rare. Maybe this got lost in translation despite me being fluent in Spanish..... both were almost jerky. They came served with steak fries, steamed broccoli and a peppercorn sauce really tasted like concentrated beef broth. Could I have sent it all back?.... sure I could have....... but I'll be on campus for 4 more nights..... better just drink the ok wine, eat what is edible and NOT order steak from here again. Such was the plan. Still.... I love this resort.... the staff is gracious and attentive, the food is decent enough and the accommodations are quite nice.
