5 stars for a lovely meal and festive environment out in Cancun. Mextreme serves breakfast lunch and dinner and there is a large bar. We had been walking in the area earlier that day and made a plan to come back for dinner. When we arrived there were a lot of people but we were seated immediately. Martin was our waiter and he was great. There were a few large screen TVs playing sports. There was live music. A lot was going on but it really worked. People were enjoying themselves and the wait staff was friendly and talkative. I ordered shrimp fajitas and my husband ordered the mole. He always orders mole. The meals were very good. We ordered a mango margarita and Tecate. The margarita came with a tehine rim. I just wiped it off. That is becoming so popular. I decided to indulge in the banana dessert and I am glad I did. It came with a show. That was fun and the dessert was delicious. We were there earlier in the evening and we saw many couples and families. I've been coming to Cancun 35 years. How did I miss Mextreme??? Such a FUN and affordable venue! Sitting outside, there is literally entertainment everywhere you look. The wait staff forms a conga line to deliver a margarita, carried atop a sombrero! The play tunes and dance around inviting diners to join them. Service is attentive & excellent! The menu has 90% Mexican specialities, but also has pasta, burgers and vegetarian. I was there with friends who had quesadillas & I had chicken enchiladas. Everything was good & portions were big. I just drank water, so cannot comment on the drinks. I had the flan for dessert, which was generous in size & ok. One of my friends had the flaming bananas & said it was so yummy! I had a wonderful experience at Mextreme! The staff were welcoming and the prices are reasonable without added hidden fees. The space is huge and it has both AC and outside seating. We didn't get an opportunity to take pictures of the food but everything was delicious. We had the pancakes, chicken and shrimp omelette, waffles and coffee to drink. read more

【Background】 Sunday, April 27, 2025, ~8:15 PM After flying into Cancun and checking into my hotel, I was hungry for my first meal in Mexico. There weren't too many options near me, but I had Mextreme saved from an article on The Infatuation [1], and a post on the Cancun subreddit also recommended it. So my friends and I decided to visit for dinner. The reviews weren't kidding about the ambiance being (M)extremely lively. The restaurant has outdoor seating with colorful furniture and string lights hanging overhead. Loud music played in the background. Employees walked around the tables, offering huge sombreros for customers to wear while eating. If a table orders drinks, an employee will come out and balance them on their head. The restaurant really focuses on the entertainment factor, and it seemed to be working since it was pretty busy with a good number of customers. 【Food】 Menu: https://en.mextrememexico.com/menu/ I ordered: * Mextreme nachos ($219 MXN) We got nachos for the table. (We ordered this before we found out they bring out complimentary chips and salsa.) The crispy tortilla chips were layered with an assortment of traditional toppings like cheese, beans, guacamole, and jalapeños. Keep in mind that this order doesn't come with any meat protein. Flavorwise, the nachos were typical, but at least the portion was pretty big. * Tikin Xic fillet ($259 MXN) While scanning the menu, I noticed they actually offered Tikin Xic, and I had to try it since it's a pretty famous Yucatan dish [2]. The white fish filet is marinated with achiote and traditional regional spices before being roasted on the grill. It was served with soft bell peppers and tomatoes on top. Sides included a lightly salted mixture of broccoli, carrots, and Mexican squash along with a small mound of rice. I'm not sure if this restaurant prepares the Tikin Xic in the most authentic manner, but the fish was flaky and flavorful, and the vegetables added a nice, healthy feel to the meal. * Daiquiri, mango (forgot to write down the price) If you like sweet drinks, then you'll like the mango daiquiri. The drink wasn't strong, and I could barely taste the alcohol, but I enjoyed the mango flavor and the tajin rim. My friends mentioned their drinks were not strong either, so order a beer if you want something with guaranteed alcohol content. Overall, the food and drinks were good. Mextreme had pretty good prices for the Zona Hotelera. For a party of 4, the total pre-tip cost was $1777 MXN ( ~$91 USD), which was relatively affordable since we each ordered an entree, a water, and a drink and shared the nachos. The dishes would've definitely cost more in America (at least in California). 【Service】 The staff were friendly, especially when trying to persuade random passengers walking by to come into the restaurant. Our waiter was quick in taking our order. However, service went downhill after that since the food and drinks took forever to come out. We all ended up ordering drinks, and it was a bit of a weird experience since they played "Gangnam Style" by Psy while an employee came out and balanced the drinks on his head. I wouldn't say this incident was due to racism but maybe just ignorance since we're not even Korean. The slow service combined with that unusual experience did not leave a good impression. 【Tips】 Be careful of their scam. Since I was paying with my credit card, our waiter brought out a card reader. He automatically gave himself a 15% tip and had the audacity to say that tip wasn't included even though we could clearly see the receipt already had $266.55 MXN next to "Propina." hello from CA! came to this place for breakfast. saw the yelp reviews and came runnin! the yelp directions are different from if you copy and paste the address into maps. just follow the yelp logo and its the big colorful building! they have menus in english and spanish. place was BOMB! fresh fruit and juice options. i had the veggie omelette which was delish. came with savory mushrooms inside and a side of beans and veggies. what really made it unique was the sauces that it came with. my brother ordered the USA pancakes. lol! it came with jam only, so you'd have to ask for butter separate. not sure if they have syrup. he said they were good as well. service was quick and nice (thanks maria!), lots of seating (indoor and outdoor) options. vast food options with everything being super good. i saw reviews of drinks being sweet and i ordered the smoothie, and yes it was super sweet. still drank it up tho, yum yum. i'd recommend coming here if ur in the hotel zone! cheers. read more

There were a lot of show elements (people playing music, getting people to get up and dance, etc) which while nice definitely was a little overwhelming, especially when the actual food service was slow. Emmanuel did a banana foster presentation for us and it was so great. And tasted great. Location is good too...off to the cut so not too populated but walking distance to all the hot spots. We came in a party of 5 after dinner for snacks and drinks. Music was loud (great music selection playing 90s & 2000s hits). If you're looking for a quiet sit down dinner- this is not for you. More like dinner before the night galavanting begins. If you order a margarita they'll provide entertainment for you by carrying it on their heads and making you dance for them when they arrive at your table. Pastor tacos had flavor but no wow factor. Also skip the chicken tacos. Margaritas were okay. We got mango & strawberry with a tajin rim. The syrup ratio to tequila just didn't do it for us. Flew in from Houston and was looking for authentic Mexican and found it here. Every plate was empty when we finished. We started with the nachos which were a nice appetizer. The jalapeños have a kick so be careful! The burrito was seasoned well and tasty, Molcajete was done well. The steak could've been cooked a bit more well but still flavorful as a whole. The batter on the shrimp tacos was light and perfectly fried while the shrimp were fresh and cooked perfectly. Outside of the food, the staff were the highlight. The margaritas are brought out on top of their heads. And I wish I got a picture of them picking diners to come join the limbo line while they carry trays of liquor on their heads. This place is a fun spot to have dinner when in Cancun! They have live music and even had audience participation with salsa dancing, they really know how to entertain you! The staff are all very friendly and the service is fast. A majority of the waiters will bring your drinks on their head and have you grab it from them, which was definitely amusing, and the drinks were MASSIVE! Aside from the entertainment aspect, the food was fine, nothing spectacular. The guacamole could definitely use more salt and more spice. The tacos were fine, I've had much better tacos living in Southern California. The fish tacos were actually pretty good in my opinion definitely the best dish we had there. They play fun music, bring drinks out on the top of their heads, and serve up tasty food! The price is not expensive but not cheap either. Drinks: - Mango margarita: make it a double! They use El Jimador tequila, and if you order multiple margaritas they will bring out the drinks on the top of their head and blast fun music. Pretty impressive! Not cheap though, prices are comparable to the States ($14). Food: - Chips and salsa: complementary, and comes with great salsa. - Al pastor tacos: Comes with 4 tacos. Both the tortilla and meat were pretty try, but the salsa saved the day. I've definitely had better tacos in California. - Skirt steak molcajete: The skirt steak is so good! We had a break in the rain and decided to come down to the lively part of town. The staff here are very kind and attentive. The restaurant is clean and inviting. We ordered a steak burrito and cheese quesadilla with a Cesar salad. The burrito was made to the style we enjoy with all the fillings of rice, beans, sour cream and cheese. The quesadilla was standard and good. The complimentary chips were too greasy and the taste needs to be adjusted. There was some drama with one table but the managers and servers handled it calmly and professionally. We finally got the attention of a waiter (ours had disappeared) and asked if our food was coming soon or if they had forgotten us. He insisted the kitchen was very busy even though the restaurant was mostly empty. He went away and came back five minutes later to tell us they were out of the item I ordered. We decided to leave instead of ordering something else. To cap off the experience, I paid cash and waited. Waited. And waited for the waiter to return with my change. But, he disappeared.
