Stopped again on our trip this year and everything was incredible again! I started with a Caesar salad that was so fresh, crisp, and delicious. The shrimp that came with it were also really good. For my meal I had the red hook roll, which was their traditional lobster roll with a chipotle mayo. Everything from the bread, to the lobster was perfect. While on vacation with my family, my husband and I decided to sneak out of our resort to try a restaurant across the street. The menu at Fred's looked fresh and appealing so it won out. We sat outside on a beautiful mild night next to the water. I'm going to have to say that this restaurant had great food, but my stellar experience comes from the impeccable service we received. Our two servers, Cruz and Mariano were perfection all night. At one point I even tried to pour myself more water and Mariano insisted to assist me with it. The host came by to check on the experience as well and made sure everything was going great. At one point, our chip dish napkin flew off the table and someone came out of nowhere like one of those ball boys at a tennis match to snatch it off the ground! The food was very good as well. We had the tuna tartare to start and the complimentary bread was very good. I had the tuna mignon as my main and my husband had the salmon. We both really enjoyed our dinners. Be warned of the chocolate cake! It can feed a family of 6 and we were not prepared to take that on! Overall, I wish more restaurants took on the exemplary service that Fred's provides. read more

Never have I given a 5 star rating when the food wasn't 5 stars (I'll get back to that). But the service was SO good at this restaurant, that I absolutely had to give it 5 stars. I even asked my husband what he thought it deserved, and he agreed overall experience and service that it deserved 5 stars. From the moment you enter the door you are treated with the utmost respect and courtesy. Greetings by multiple staff members (hostess, servers, management)...chairs being pulled out, napkins in your lap, stand for ladies' purses...they cover it all. The overall ambiance is warm and inviting...I can't believe I didn't take pics of the interior but it was very nice with beautiful accents hanging from the raptors. I even liked the linens which is weird bc...well they're linens. Ok so for the food, I thought the value was great and the taste was pretty good but just not mind blowing. I had the catch of the day which was grouper. It was cooked perfectly and with a pop of lemon was delicious. It was accompanied by grilled corn on the cob which wasn't my favorite. I like corn on the cob but this was just so so. It also had cooled and wasn't hot when I received it so that may also play into it along with the drizzle that was on it. My mom had the salmon which was also very good but she was disappointed with the portion size of her potatoes (appx 3 new potatoes). Again though, the food was good. I wish I had been hungry enough to try their steak options but just wasn't that hungry...so maybe next time. We celebrated my birthday and they brought me out this vanilla cake with cheesecake layers. That was delicious! I'm not even a sweets eater, but I would order this again. They had a nice sparkler in the cake and sang happy birthday to me. Cheesy but cute and I loved it. All in all, I would return here and give a few other options a try. This is our second time at Fred's. We went here for our anniversary lunch. We had a couple of beers and an old fashioned. Crab cake and calamari for appetizers. The crab cake was delish. The calamari was good. For the main meal we had fish n chips and lobster roll. Both were good. They give you a lot of fish. It was good and flavorful. The lobster roll was also flavorful, slightly overcooked but was still enjoyable. The servers, Jorge and Leon, were very friendly and attentive. They brought us a cake and some coconut candies to celebrate our anniversary. This is a place we will visit again. We spent about $140 US including tip. read more

Fred's was one of the best places we've eaten at so far that we have been in Cancun. There was a waiter named Abraham that was an incredible waiter. He was so attentive and very prompt that everything we needed. Everybody had a great personality and we're very happy and dancing and just really set the mood for the night. Just in conversation, we mentioned that we had just got married and they came out with a complementary snow cone of Rompope and it was so delicious. it was just the little details that they paid attention to that did it for me.We even saw a little alligator friend come up. Fred's is part of the Anderson Group - a collective of restaurants along the Cancun Hotel strip; After an awesome dining experience at Porfirio's, we thought Fred's would be a quality spot to chow down on some seafood while watching the Mayweather-McGregor fight. We let our waiter know that we would be posted up for a while and were seated with a great view of the projector screen. Our Order Oysters Rockefeller - 0/5 First bite was about the size of a dime; I was a little bummed considering the order was only six oysters, but moved on to the next one. Second bite was much more generous, but I ended up spitting it out due to lack of freshness / poor preparation. I don't know if I've ever spit out food in my entire adult life and I can count on one hand how many times I've sent food back to the kitchen, as I hate wasting food. We declined having the appetizer replaced and my appetite started to go downhill quickly. Salmon & Tuna Tartare - 3/5 Interesting approach to each preparation, not astounding. Al Mojo de Ajo - 1/5 Ordered per the waiter's recommendation - The lobster was fresh and presented nicely. Unfortunately, it was way overcooked. When the waiter checked on us, he was visibly frustrated by how the food had come out. The restaurant manager took my plate back to the kitchen and never returned to the table. Rib Eye Cheeseburger - 3/5 Again, an interesting approach - at first we thought this was ground beef, but quickly realized the steak had basically been masticated and reformed into a patty. For the price, you're better off ordering an actual steak. Classic Mojito - 2/5 We ordered several drinks while watching the fight and both left sober. After taking a Mojito class the day before, I can confirm the drinks were very lightly poured. Mango Sorbet - 3/5 Nothing special Overall...The service started out decent enough. Our waiter seemed genuinely frustrated by factors outside of his control and eventually stopped checking in with us and never asked if I wanted to replace my entree. When we were brought the check, the Oyster's Rockefeller had been deducted, but the lobster had not. When discussing it with the Manager, she was borderline hostel and argumentative, stating I had eaten nearly all of the food. She ended up removing it from the check, but took the liberty of adding a 15% gratuity which was clearly stated on the check as not included. You're way better off going up the street to Fontino's at The Ritz-Carlton if you're looking to drop $100usd+, or better yet, just go into the city and pay $5 for some authentic food away from the tourists. read more

They were a bit snobby. We ordered the seafood platter, it was ok, the lobster and snow crab was overcooked. The oyster were dry and didn't have any brine. The bread that they give you complimentary was good. The guacamole was great, especially with chicharon. The service was good. The reason such low rating is because we booked through open table, and put in that it was our anniversary, when we arrived they even ask if we are celebrating anything special and we said our anniversary. When they said finish we said yes, no congratulations. If you have a celebration do not come here, also seafood platter not worth it. read more

We tried to her advice on the wine and the servers couldn't give us any recommendations or advice and didn't understand what we were after. My family and I stopped at Fred's after checking out of our resort at around noon on a Monday. And we are so happy with our choice! They have free valet parking out front (just for tips) and they take your car to an underground garage right below the restaurant. We felt comfortable leaving our luggage in the car as well. When you walk in the restaurant is very chic, and they have outside seating along the water. We opted to sit outside. The service was amazing and they met our every need immediately! They also took my dad's shellfish and my dairy allergy very seriously and worked around these issues. And the food was delicious! The coconut shrimps were huge, and the burger was so big with delicious fries on the side. My favorite part was the ceviche, which was very refreshing on a hot day! read more

Really loved the ambiance at Fred's! The ceviche that is made is really fresh. I had the flamed crispy coconut shrimp. They prepare the sauce for the shrimp in front of you and literally use fire flames to do so. Inside the coconut, they have a few fresh cut vegetables that are meant to be eaten with the shrimp. The restaurant is a bit more on the pricier side, but is nice to go for special occasions and the service here was outstanding and very quick! Really great restaurant and a perfect dinner for our last night. After all the crazy loud restaurants we had been to the first couple of nights, this was a welcome reprieve. The grilled octopus was great and we really liked the caribbean ceviche. For the entree I had the chili flake encrusted fish and my wife had the lobster thermidor. They were both pretty good, but I really liked my fish. The sauce was not too spicy, but had a little bit of a kick. So much flavor in that sauce. We were luckily to have a day without rain to come enjoy Fred's restaurant. This is a wonderful restaurant. The service is impeccable. They were very attentive & always checked in on us. The managers came by to know how we felt about the experience & food and even offered us a coconut treat on a palm tree platter at the end. The servers also acknowledged my husband's birthday with a surprise cake which was so thoughtful. The food was amazing. The pallele was fresh and cooked like in Spain. The ceviche was the same. It was fresh with a good flavor. The lobster bisque was served in a cute black pot and tasted perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant. We got in without a reservation but that is recommended. She also got the lobster and I got the fresh fish, both very delicious. Then got the tiramisu "show" for dessert. They basically unravel the sauce in front of you. Absolutely incredible for our first stop in Cancun, Mexico. There is free valet (but tip for courtesy of course). Upon entering, we were brought out to an outdoor seating which was had a beautiful view. We had the best server ever (I wish I was able to remember his name), but he was incredibly friendly and attentive to our group. Before ordering, we were given a small side of breadsticks with this slightly sweet softened butter. The bun was light and spongey. It tasted really good. All the food items we ordered were pretty delicious - I enjoyed the salmon tacos the most. I've never had salmon tacos paired up with caramelized onions, but it was a really nice and unique flavor. Oyster and octopus apps were quite good. My biggest problem was service. It's almost too much attention to the point of suffocation. The recommendations are the most expensive items on the menu and they're visibly disappointed when you order other items. They also counted the pesos at the end of the meal in front of us to see if we paid the proper amount. The food is consistently delicious, with each dish prepared with perfection, making every meal a memorable experience. Decidedly Mediocre. I was really excited about Fred's because our cab driver recommended it on the way over to the JW Marriott. Photos online looked adorable. I'm giving two stars because I thought the ambience was lovely and refreshing. The service was also very good. The food, however, was decidedly mediocre. Items that were decent but not outstanding... the mussels, and the tuna tartare. The Stone crab legs did not seem fresh. The shrimp cocktail was good, but not outstanding- did not seem fresh but it wasn't old either. The burger was ordered medium rare and was not cooked. We sent it back and the cooked it a bit but it was still under cooked. The manager came over to check on us; he was very nice. But food was just not worth the money. The part that I liked the best was the little coconut gummies that were served as a thank you gift at the end. IDK. I would not go back. Let me start by saying that the manager tried to make everything right while we were there. I ordered a ribeye medium rare. It came out cold, barely had grill marks and much to my amazement they used powdered potatoes for the mashed. Our lobsters were way over cook. Soups were ok, nothing to write home about. We ate at many fine restaurants in Cancun for about half of the cost of Freds and they were pure perfection. I wouldn't visit here again. The manager was nice and wanted to swap meals, it's just not something I do, we paid the full bill and I took just the steak home and cooked it more, it was good. I was very fortunate to be in Cancun with my beautiful girlfriend and a few of her coworkers and even more fortunately, one of her co-workers had been to Cancun just a week earlier. She knew to stay away from the hotel restaurants and simply walk across the street to Fred's seafood restaurant. My girlfriend's friend, Susan made reservations for us at a private table virtually on the beach so close to the water. I love eating Mexican seafood because it's basically very citrus and raw sometimes or grilled with very little seasonings and lots of vegetables. Fred's didn't let me down. We started with the fish, shrimp, and octopus ceviche then moved on to octopus and bone marrow, the Seafood Tower, and finally the massive surf and turf with lots of vegetables. If I ever return again, I'm just getting seafood ceviche and surf and turf because they are huge. Service was slow at times but it was not for lack of effort. You could see that our two servers were overwhelmed why so many tables and multiple requests. They got things to us as fast as they could. There's also a DJ but when we stop by his Booth he wasn't there. The highlight of the evening was the 8 p.m. fireworks. We were told they go off every night. Strongly recommended! read more

Amazing service! I feel like they don't miss a beat and you're attended to as soon as you walk in the door. They have some cool dry ice drinks and keep the environment fun. It's not the same party scene as some of the other restaurants so it's nice that you can actually hear each other and have a conversation. We had calamari for an app and it was super fresh. For the 1st restaurant we'd went to, after we landed in Cancun and settled into the J.W. Marriott we walked across the street from our hotel to dine in seafood heaven! Ceviche was ordered and Cocktails first thing. Have your cell phone w/ya (They use a QR Code for their drink menu) Leila and Sam got the Tequila Breeze in husked green coconut shells. Judy got a Coconut Bourbon drink. Two of us ordered the Crispy Grilled Octopus plates, charred to perfection, and I ordered from the Raw Bar their Stone Crab Claws and I loved their version of a Tarter Sauce! Leila got a Tuna Poke bowl with quinoa that rocked! I'm usually not into quinoa but the citrus in the worked super well with it! The ambiance was just perfect, off the water, city lights in the background, a family adventure just beginning. It was a great night, the manager checked up on us too! The Sistine Chapel of fine dining in Mexico. I came to cancun for the beach, but I will be back again for Fred's kitchen. Undeniably the freshest food in cancun.
