The show was so entertaining and beautifully done, our kids were completely captivated the entire time, which made the experience even more special for us as parents. The energy, music, dancing, and performances really brought the whole night to life and created such a fun atmosphere. The food was served buffet style and there was truly something for everyone. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and delicious, with a great variety of options for both adults and kids. This ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. This is the main restaurant at Westin Lagunamar Vacation Club. Since it is not an all inclusive resort, guests have options to eat at other nearby restaurants. However, we found that for the price this restaurant does a very good job with the service, food, and entertainment. Prices are consistent with other hotel restaurants, especially for the buffet. However, considering the food quality and service it is within reason. The best value are some of dinner theme nights. We have gone to Mayan Night this year. Last year we went to the Seafood on the Beach night. However, I found that for Taco night the prices were too high. Since you can go an across the street at La Isla for more than half the price. Not only is the food fresh and tasty, the service is excellent. When I asked our main waiter what is Mayan food, he took me to the buffet and explained which foods are traditionally Mayan and how they were historically prepared. There were other foods that were more Mexican than Mayan and though delicious wasn't what I was looking to experience that night. As I wandered around the buffet area trying to determine what I was going to eat, more than 1 server asked if they could help me. I just couldn't decide since there were a lot of food options. For families with big appetites, the buffet nights are a deal. It's also an experience with the entertainment. I enjoyed both Mayan night and Seafood night because of them. The entertainment is consistent with those you find at other high end establishments that we have paid more than double the prices. Last year the fire show on the beach was fantastic. This year the Mayan performers were equally entertaining. We were seated very close to the entertainers which was a big plus. What Oceano is lacking is modern decor to compete with the new swanky restaurants that have been opening up in the hotel zone area. The wheat toast with eggs and guacamole was disappointing the bread looked toasted but was soggy and low quality. My daughter's "plain" Greek yogurt wasn't cold and tasted sweet instead of tangy. We stayed at the Westin and dined here on two occasions. One night, we ordered from the dinner menu--steak and a seafood pasta--both of which were delicious. I requested my steak medium, but it arrived medium rare. That was fine, as I enjoy both. Great service! However, the complimentary bread was very dry and bland. We also returned for the themed taco night. Although it was more expensive, the buffet offered a wide selection, and everything we tried was excellent. We especially loved the desserts--particularly the macaroons. Again, the bread was dry. The evening featured a mariachi band and dancers, which added a lively and festive atmosphere. We loved it! For this current experience you order one piece of meat and then get unlimited access to the buffet for the sides, salads, two soups, and a collection of bread & desserts for $700 pesos per person. For the amount of food we got and overall quality, this was a terrific first night dinner at the resort. I got the top sirloin, ordered rare but came out medium well. Still pretty good seasoning and fat trim and I hate wasting food by sending it back so not ideal but great enough. My partner got the Angus loin. A nice thick cut of meat, he ordered his medium rare but it was more rare. Did not have much of a flavor outside the meat itself which was again, very good but not the best. The meats came with three sauces: rosemary, mushroom gravy, and chimichurri. Here's where I had high expectations from other reviews but think the actual flavors fell short. Very mediocre, out-of-a-packet gravy and oil+parsley for the chimichurri. The sides were extensive. Nothing blew me away as a I have to have again but i thoroughly enjoyed them all. Couscous salad, bountiful build your own salad bar, corn chowder which was very butter heavy (i mean, i like it but that was a prominent flavor, several versions of potatoes (one with bacon!), and lots of rolls. Dessert was me and ok. I liked trying all the small bites. Favorite was the tart de limon. With blueberry macaron as a second. We had live music from a man playing an acoustic guitar and thought it was so good. A lot of Santana, Josh Groban, etc. That and watching the colors change as the sun went away was incredible. Great food option if you're staying in the Westin Lagunamar. We were there for steak night, and also had breakfast there on a couple mornings. Steak night was actually really good and the sauces were great. The chimichurri and the balsamic were especially good. Worst guacamole I have ever eaten. The meats were chewy and over cooked. The kicker was they overcharged us by billing the wrong table to our room. They were unapologetic and not empathetic at all. Decided to spend our Thanksgiving dinner at our hotel (Westin Lagunamar) & buffet sounded like it would satisfy all 7 of our different palates, great idea right! It would have been if it wasn't $85/per person! Shame on me for not asking how much the dinner was before we booked it but shame on them for charging that much from their guests (kids were 1/2) even if it was a holiday. The food was mediocre, Turkey & prime rib were moist & tasty but the side dishes were a bit lacking (dry Mac & cheese & stuffing). The emphasis was the charcuterie board & salads and no pumpkin, pecan pie or cranberry sauce. A sure miss in the future for the lack of choices & for the $700+ bill we paid we should have just gone across the street for a steak dinner 2-nights in a row!! We had the breakfast buffet every day here while staying at the Westin Lagunamar. The team working is great. Super nice and helpful. The buffet is fine. Great fruit options, great Mexican options, ok standard fare international breakfast items that you'd find in any 4 star hotel breakfast buffet. Price is still $420 pesos per adult, but the kids ate free (they're under 6, not sure where the cutoff is), so good value for four of us with options for everyone. read more

We stayed at the Westin Lagunamar for 1 week this January. If you're staying at the Westin, it's a great option for breakfast. We only went for breakfast here every day and it was great. The buffet is extensive and quite affordable, and even includes mimosas/all drinks and made to order pancakes, omelettes, eggs of choice, bacon, etc - it really levels up the "buffet" idea. We really liked the oatmeal and fresh juices, and the fruits were always so fresh. We left always full and satisfied and the outside ambience is lovely - open and with a nice breeze/view of the pool and ocean in the back. The only downside is for 1-2 of the days we really had to wait to get our drinks/orders in, and once had to wait ~40 min for our eggs. But the servers are truly kind and we loved Tomas - he is an exceptional human and waiter. Even when he wasn't assigned to our table he would come and check in on us. Roberto & Alonso (I believe) were also very sweet. By our 3rd day they had memorized my family's (very specific) taste & brought everything we needed to the table (drinks/water/condiments/etc), which was so sweet. We truly enjoyed this for an "all you can eat" high quality breakfast. When we come back to Westin we will come here for breakfast! read more

We stayed at the Westin for a week in Feb 2018. We ate at Oceano about every morning for their breakfast buffet. We also ate here for the regular dinner once, the Mayan Night, and the Steak Night. Breakfast buffet: pretty good and if you are an owner you get 20% off so it was around $20 USD for all you can eat and unlimited mimosas and bloody Mary's. They also have juices at the buffet that are good- try the green one! You can also order made to order omelettes, eggs, Mexican breakfast dishes, etc. Coffee and other beverages are included as well. Dinner menu: you also can get the owner discount here. The dishes were HUGE and really good. We tried salads, soups, entrees and dessert. I got a chicken dish with a whitish sauce with fruit and nuts in the rice- very tasty. The asparagus soup was good too. My boyfriend got one of the salads for an appetizer and it was huge- could have been a meal. My mom got the filet and it was very big and she loved it. For dessert I did the ice cream which was also good. Mayan Night- this is really more about the show. I enjoyed the show, the dinner to me was ok. My boyfriend loved the food though. The dinner is buffet style. No drinks included. No discounts. Steak Night- you get to choose a steak and then the rest is the buffet. No drinks included. This was OK. I got the ribeye and I regretted it. The filet is huge and the ribeye in comparison doesn't look as good. The ribeye was very thin. The buffet part was pretty good though. No discounts. We were staying at the Westin Lagunamar and Oceano is the breakfast and dinner restaurant on site. It is also the pricey one.... We ate here first for breakfast on our first morning before we had gone food shopping. I got the breakfast burrito. It was delicious and filling. But I am not sure if it was anything *really* special.... Our second meal was the real stand out. The Mexican buffet on Monday night. This is the bomb dot com. HIGHLY recommend. It is pricier. One set price and the only thing they serve that night. We also got a bottle of wine for the table to share. There is an overwhelming amount of food. A fresh pork taco bar, soups, salads, cold dishes, traditional Mexican dishes, and dessert. SO. MANY. DESSERTS. Om nom nom nom! Wow. I had to stop myself from continuing to eat! My favorites from the dinner were the salbutes, the pork tacos, and the tres leches cake! Starting around 7pm, they also had a mariachi band walking around the dining area and playing. Fun! The breakfast buffet is awesome! Mxn $420 for breakfast buffet that includes mimosas, bloody Marys, and screwdrivers. I highly recommend it since everywhere else is that expensive for just a meal. There is a lot of variety here and it is very good. Plantains, eggs, omelets, loads of fresh fruit, sweet breads, and more. My favorite fruit was the papaya. The watermelon wasn't as flavorful as in the states. The coffee is so-so. I do recommend the Mexican hot chocolate! I love the cinnamon. Even with the buffet, the servers are very attentive. Out of all our servers, we loved Armando the best. He was talkative and kind. We did order smoothies a la carte and the beef empanadas. I really enjoyed my empanadas. One breakfast, I had a blueberry chia seed almond milk smoothie and the empanadas for mxn $245, which is about USD $14.16. Have a nice relaxing breakfast outside to look at the pool and feel the breeze. They let you hangout after 11:30am even though they close at 11. They now specialize with Wednesday night Steak night and Saturday night Mayan Night with Mayan dance show. If you vacation there you gotta eat at the Oceano. Very disappointed. I visited Oceano because it is a part of the Westin resort where I vacationed. The menu was very limited. I visited this restaurant on 3 occasions to give them a chance to prove me wrong. Service was hot and cold. Some moments the service was great. Other moments absolutely terrible. From being overlooked when waiting for seating (walking right by my guest and I without speaking and assisting someone who came in after me) to cold food that was supposed to be cooked fresh to order. A few times, I sent my meal back and it still came back out wrong. I spoke with another couple and they mentioned that they were given the wrong check on a few instances. The last straw for me was when I checked out of the hotel and found out I was double billed for one of my meals. It took 15 minutes to get the issue resolved at the front desk. Even though the front desk staff was awesome, the guest should not have to encounter an extensive wait while getting an issue resolved. I won't return to this restaurant on my next visit. read more

My family was staying at the resort here so we of course tried the onsite restaurant a few times. The first was for breakfast, which they had a buffet for but seemed a little over priced to us, so we just ordered off the menu, the breakfast burrito for me was nothing special in terms of taste but it was large and filling. We then went back for the Monday night Mexican Buffet. Again pricey, but more of a special event than breakfast. They had a great spread with so many choices. -They had 2 soups, I don't know which one I had, the red one, really good. -A table of bread/pastry type bread, churros with chocolate sauce. -A pork taco station where I you could make the tacos fresh -A table with more authentic dishes that I can't remember the right names for -A table with picky-eater choice (cheese quesadillas, taquitos, build your own tacos -A table full of desserts. We went to the buffet one night and when I saw the bill I thought it was a mistake. $80+ USD for the buffet on Mexican Fiesta Night, for the both of us. Which I personally think is too high. Besides which, the food was terrible. I barely ate any of it. I ate dessert to try to appease my appetite but as for the regular food, I could not eat it. And I love Mexican food. I was so upset I did not even stay for the Mexican Fiesta! I wish they had a better dinner restaurant at Westin LagunaMar. I plan to return to the Westin LagunaMar but will not have dinner there. This review is mainly for their steak night. We are staying at the Westin Lagunamar, which is where the restaurant is located. They have a number if themed nights. We ate at the Monday Mexican themed night, which was really good. The steak night was way better than we thought it would be. I had the filet, which was cooked perfectly and the sauces they provide were also really good. All of the sides and salad items are all you can eat and all of the items I tried were great. We were contemplating going down the street to Ruth's Chris steakhouse and I'm glad we didn't. If you want a great filet and service, you can get it right here. The waiter, Marco, was there checking on us frequently and did a great job. The chef even came out to talk to us, which was a nice touch. The staff are hard working and attentive. We went to Oceano for coffee and dessert. What we received was an experience we will never forget. Our server Marco Jacome was a blessing from above. We ordered Mayan Coffee which was a visual dream. Marco prepared two flambé coffees that words can not describe. Not only was it visually beautiful, but the taste was out of this world.
