We stayed at the Westin and dined here on two occasions. One night, we ordered from the dinner menu--steak and a seafood pasta--both of which were delicious. I requested my steak medium, but it arrived medium rare. That was fine, as I enjoy both. Great service! However, the complimentary bread was very dry and bland. We also returned for the themed taco night. Although it was more expensive, the buffet offered a wide selection, and everything we tried was excellent. We especially loved the desserts--particularly the macaroons. Again, the bread was dry. The evening featured a mariachi band and dancers, which added a lively and festive atmosphere. We loved it! Oh and a piñata for the kids.

Scraped off my egg. Bread was soggy

The wheat toast with eggs and guacamole was disappointing the bread looked toasted but was soggy and low quality. My daughter's "plain" Greek yogurt wasn't cold and tasted sweet instead of tangy. The server seemed rushed and unwelcoming. Not a great first breakfast experience, and we won't be eating here again.

3.5 rounded up because the servers were friendly, there was live music, we had beautiful views at the end of the patio, and the overall value of the meal Came here for steak night (now on Thursdays). For this current experience you order one piece of meat and then get unlimited access to the buffet for the sides, salads, two soups, and a collection of bread & desserts for $700 pesos per person. For the amount of food we got and overall quality, this was a terrific first night dinner at the resort. I got the top sirloin, ordered rare but came out medium well. Still pretty good seasoning and fat trim and I hate wasting food by sending it back so not ideal but great enough. My partner got the Angus loin. A nice thick cut of meat, he ordered his medium rare but it was more rare. Did not have much of a flavor outside the meat itself which was again, very good but not the best. The meats came with three sauces: rosemary, mushroom gravy, and chimichurri. Here's where I had high expectations from other reviews but think the actual flavors fell short. Very mediocre, out-of-a-packet gravy and oil+parsley for the chimichurri. The sides were extensive. Nothing blew me away as a I have to have again but i thoroughly enjoyed them all. Couscous salad, bountiful build your own salad bar, corn chowder which was very butter heavy (i mean, i like it but that was a prominent flavor, several versions of potatoes (one with bacon!), and lots of rolls. Dessert was me and ok. I liked trying all the small bites. Favorite was the tart de limon. With blueberry macaron as a second. We had live music from a man playing an acoustic guitar and thought it was so good. A lot of Santana, Josh Groban, etc. That and watching the colors change as the sun went away was incredible. So overall, great time. Would do again for ~$50 per person.

Great food option if you're staying in the Westin Lagunamar. We were there for steak night, and also had breakfast there on a couple mornings. Steak night was actually really good and the sauces were great. The chimichurri and the balsamic were especially good. We liked the side buffet that you can get while you're waiting for the steak, good options. The breakfast buffet was really good. We liked the regular american breakfast options and also the mexican options. The standout for my wife was the amazing hot chocolate.

    Pumpkin soup- very different

We stayed at the Westin for a week in Feb 2018. We ate at Oceano about every morning for their breakfast buffet. We also ate here for the regular dinner once, the Mayan Night, and the Steak Night. Breakfast buffet: pretty good and if you are an owner you get 20% off so it was around $20 USD for all you can eat and unlimited mimosas and bloody Mary's. They also have juices at the buffet that are good- try the green one! You can also order made to order omelettes, eggs, Mexican breakfast dishes, etc. Coffee and other beverages are included as well. Dinner menu: you also can get the owner discount here. The dishes were HUGE and really good. We tried salads, soups, entrees and dessert. I got a chicken dish with a whitish sauce with fruit and nuts in the rice- very tasty. The asparagus soup was good too. My boyfriend got one of the salads for an appetizer and it was huge- could have been a meal. My mom got the filet and it was very big and she loved it. For dessert I did the ice cream which was also good. Mayan Night- this is really more about the show. I enjoyed the show, the dinner to me was ok. My boyfriend loved the food though. The dinner is buffet style. No drinks included. No discounts. Steak Night- you get to choose a steak and then the rest is the buffet. No drinks included. This was OK. I got the ribeye and I regretted it. The filet is huge and the ribeye in comparison doesn't look as good. The ribeye was very thin. The buffet part was pretty good though. No discounts. The servers at this restaurant are always very nice and accommodating! Sometimes it's slow getting a server's help, especially on the special dinner nights, but otherwise no complaints.

We were staying at the Westin Lagunamar and Oceano is the breakfast and dinner restaurant on site. It is also the pricey one.... We ate here first for breakfast on our first morning before we had gone food shopping. I got the breakfast burrito. It was delicious and filling. But I am not sure if it was anything *really* special.... Our second meal was the real stand out. The Mexican buffet on Monday night. This is the bomb dot com. HIGHLY recommend. It is pricier. One set price and the only thing they serve that night. We also got a bottle of wine for the table to share. There is an overwhelming amount of food. A fresh pork taco bar, soups, salads, cold dishes, traditional Mexican dishes, and dessert. SO. MANY. DESSERTS. Om nom nom nom! Wow. I had to stop myself from continuing to eat! My favorites from the dinner were the salbutes, the pork tacos, and the tres leches cake! Starting around 7pm, they also had a mariachi band walking around the dining area and playing. Fun! When we go back to Lagunamar (I certainly hope we go back!) I hope we do the Mexican buffet dinner again!

This place had an amazing atmosphere for tourists. A buffet that had such a large variety of food for people looking for "something new." My wife and I are from LA and eat Mexican Food frequently but haven't found tender Barbacoa and corn and Chiles like this before. Also they had a live mariachi band that plays every Monday starting at 7:00PM!

My family and I came here for Mexican night. There was a live Mariachi band, a Mexican food buffet, the food was okay. There were no tacos or tamales. The desserts were delicious. The staff is very friendly.

The grilled fish was delicious, so good that I got it twice. German, our waiter, was very hospitable and friendly and had great dinner recommendations. The food was delicious, everything we eat was so tasty, and we had such a good time that we returned for a second night! You should definitely come to this restaurant if you are visiting the area and hopefully you can get German who was a wonderful waiter. I will say, right off the bat, this place is loud if you're hear during peak meal time. While the mariachi band was a nice added touch, it only exacerbated the already loud dining experience. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic meal, this isn't the place for you. But if you're ok speaking up a bit throughout the meal, do not pass on this restaurant. I opted to try things that I wouldn't easily find at a restaurant, even in Los Angeles where I live. That meant I tried an aztec corn soup for my appetizer (it tasted like liquid corn bread and I say that as a compliment) and then for my main I tried a Molcajete Mixto. It was absolutely amazing. The best way I could explain it is a Mexican bibimbap. Each of the 3 types of meats were grilled perfectly, the special cheese was mild, but had a really great texture to it. The bits of cactus were cooked to perfection where they were soft, but with just the right amount of bite to it. I gobbled that dish up so quickly and considered asking if I could have another one. If I wasn't already stuffed I absolutely would have. It was probably the single best dish I had the entire week I was in Cancun. I've now made it my quest to find somewhere near me where I can get something even remotely comparable. I also appreciate that they had 'kid cocktails.' All 3 of my boys felt so adult sipping on their special mocktails. Our wait staff was a tad out of sorts, they would often say they were going to grab something for us (i.e. a high chair) and then completely dissapear. In the case of the high chair we just ended up finding one ourselves. But I think this issue stemmed from them just being so busy and slightly overstaffed. When they were with us, they were nothing short of fantastic. Honestly, if I ever return to Cancun, I will absolutely be returning here. It was that good. It makes getting the all inclusive package worthwhile. I will, however, avoid going on mariachi night.

All-in-all it was worth the inconvenience. Very eclectic menu, warm atmosphere and outstanding service. I started withe the Mango-Tamarind: Lettuce, Indian walnut, mango, blueberries, Cotija cheese, mango-habanero dressing and tamarind billet. Unique and tasty. "Swiss Chicken Enchiladas" for the main course was not what you get at a local Mexican joint -- Four tortillas stuffed with chicken, bathed in a creamy tomatillo sauce with melted cheese and a base of refried black beans. This was a 5-star dish! I couldn't resist ordering a side dish though I didn't need to because the enchiladas were really enough, so I indulged myself with fries: these were not your run of the mill French fries. Porfirio's Potatoes -- French fries with chipotle pepper aioli, parmesan cheese and parsley. Finally, if you like ice cream I highly recommend that you order BOTH offerings: 1) "ICE CREAM TASTING" - Strawberry ice cream, chocolate ice cream from Metate, marzipan ice cream and vanilla from Papantla. Served with grated coconut, chocolate grain, M&M's, Oreo cookies and ice cream cones; and, 2) "PORFIRIO'S MOLECULAR ICE CREAM" - served with cajeta Worcestershire sauce in an ice cream cone. I took some notes and this is what I thought of the dishes. Xoajacan Imoladas - The mole is perfection. The flautas, superb. I dream of Marrow everyday. This is a 10/10 Yellow fin Tosatadas - Superb!!! One of the best tostadas I have ever had. The microgreens, the sauce and the square Tostada works well all together. 8.8/10 Salmon - Cooked perfectly. The corn is a great accompaniment. The fish is impeccably seasoned. This dish is heaven sent with a 9.8/10 Grilled Octopus - Grilled perfectly, I can tell by the texture. The mash is superb, they used margarine instead of butter and I absolutely love the contrast from the traditional mash. 9.8/10 Mexican Rice - Its pretty good. It does have a nice seafoodish finish. The pepper was actually spicy. Nice and pleasant rice dish. 8/10 Charred Avocado Salad - Grilled avocado is a bit of a wash. It did make it look good on the plate. The dressing is a little weak. Needs a little more zip, some citrus or vinegar would give this salad some justice. Its a little uninspired 7/10 Service is impeccable and attentive and the atmosphere is lovely.
