The waitstaff is very attentive and friendly, and are bilingual for any other tourists like us who can't get by on their Spanish. I had the battered fish tacos, which were good, and my wife had the grilled tuna, which was fantastic. They really know what they are doing with their seafood, so don't be shy about ordering the tuna more on the rare side than well-done. To top it off we had their horchata and tres leches cake (they call it their three milk cake but come on, we know what it's really called!) and they were fantastic. This place is located in the heart of the Hotel Zone but on a quieter side street. They specialize in seafood but also have the typical Mexican food as well as American food like burgers and fries. We opted for a fish sandwich with fries, shrimp cocktail and the chilpachole (seafood stew). Everything tasted fresh and delicious with good sized portions. Drink menu was very good as well, with many cocktails to choose from. We had the margaritas, and they were definitely good quality and strong. This place has a huge outdoor seating area and has a low key feel - definitely family friendly. This restaurant is located in a great area and is very inviting. However, I took off two stars as I was forced to leave a review to get a complimentary birthday shot. My waiter was Carlos. He started off doing great; however, I waited about 30-40 minutes between finishing my food and receiving my check. To me, this was unacceptable. Had lunch here with my hubby and our doggo (yes, this place is dog friendly, unlike many others). Everything was amazing: the food, the ambiance, music). We had guacamole with fried shrimps and chicken fajitas. Best guacamole we've tried in Cancun and it's been over a week. And service was even better!!! If you like sea food there are several places in the same hotel strip for a much better experience. After doing some retail therapy in the neighboring shops, we walked by Marinero's and Raul, the waiter, caught our attention by stating that the restaurant was one of the top 20 restaurants in Cancun. That peaked our curiosity so we gave it a try, and we were not disappointed. The chicken fajitas was perfectly seasoned and very tasty, the octopus with garlic butter was tender and moist, and the smoked marlin burrito was very flavorful. The food was lacking flavor and as stated earlier by another reviewer, it is a tourists trap, not authentic at all. Also the manger was very rude. We ordered a seafood enchilada (which states it is cooked in a white wine sauce topped with a house special sauce), when it arrived it was covered in red sauce and when we asked to replace it the waiter suddenly didn't understand English anymore so we asked the manager for help he came and told us that all Mexican enchiladas are cooked in red sauce and if we did not know that, that it was not his problem that we didn't know. We ordered Mariano platter and the burrito with fries on the side. For drinks we got one of the colada and the Havana. Drinks came out first and like most places so far the food take a bit to out. The drinks were great. The colada was worth the try. The Mariano platter fits for 2. So we pretty much over ordered. At the end of the meal our waiter told us dessert in Mexico is tequila. We agreed to getting 2 shots. He brought back 2 kind of ages tequilas. We picked one and tried it. It was amazing. Loved it so much more than patron and any other tequila I've had ever. He asked us few questions and took our order without writing it down, anyways waiter brought our food after 30 min food was not good at all. Now here is a scam waiter bring us a bill on a handwritten piece of paper for $57 USA dollars. It was for 4 shrimp tacos(229), 1 fried fish(498) and 1 cake(89) total 816 pesos, which should be $40 I ask him why it is $57 he told me it is a service fee which is not mentioned anywhere in their menu. My wife and I were looking for a nice dinner somewhere within walking distance of our hotel, so we popped into this seafood and pasta restaurant thinking they would be somewhat upscale. We should have known by the laminated menus that it was just another touristy chain type restaurant, but we were hungry and already sitting down. I ordered the lobster tail; it came plated on top of what seemed to be runny instant mashed potatoes with big chunks of garlic in it and a side of cold ribboned carrots. The color and consistency of the potatoes were so unappetizing. It was like gray baby food. Service was great as hotel zone restaurants tend to be..however, I would definitely say that service was not as exceptional as it was at Mextreme. I'd just had a couple of Mescals at Casa Tequila and Marinero's was right across the road, so before I actually passed out in a gutter I decided I should eat something. Grabbed a table inside (they also have outdoor seating, but I was in the mood for air conditioned comfort) and ordered a coconut martini (70 pesos) and the Fisherman's Plate (269 pesos). The coconut martini was nice - cool and refreshing. Tasted like it was made with coconut cream, not milk. Not sure how much alcohol was in it, but it didn't taste that strong. They bought out a cone of corn chips first with three different dips - mild (green tomato), medium (red chilli) and hot (habenero). The Fisherman's Plate was generous; eight prawns, the same number of mussels, two grouper fillets, four calamari rings, and a huge clam served in its shell with garlic sauce and fried onions. Plus some grilled peppers and zucchini on the side. Everything tasted good. Then I started experimenting with the left over dips. The grouper with the habenero was delicious - although extremely hot, this sauce really took the fish to another level. Excellent pairing. The red chilli and prawn were a good combo, and the mussels seemed to work with everything, but I think the green tomato best. The only thing I couldn't find a home for was the calamari rings, so I just left them. Marinero's walks the line between tourist trap and good food, but as far as I'm concerned doesn't actually cross it. Prices are reasonable for what you get (my bill came to 479 pesos, which included three martinis) and the service is fast and friendly. Also, a 10% discount voucher for their sister restaurant, Mextremes, which is right next door came with the check. Nothing fancy or out of the box, just good, solid seafood. And who doesn't love that? The only thing I'd mark them down on, is they add a 15% service charge which lifted the bill to 550 pesos. I probably would have tipped that anyway, but I'd like to make that decision myself. read more
