    Sampling from breakfast buffet

We enjoyed the breakfast buffet all 4 mornings we were there! After our first day, the host greeted us by name. A couple of the days we had Angel as our server. My daughter needs to eat gluten free and although there were things on the buffet that were naturally gluten free, we asked if she could order things off the menu so they would be prepared fresh and hopefully free of cross contamination. She was in heaven - each morning she had gf pancakes and then she had chilaquiles, huevos rancheros and custom made breakfast enchilladas twice, they were so good! The buffet was amazing! All your typical breakfast offerings and then each day, the Mexican/entree side was different. Everything from grilled salmon, taquitos, gorditas, shredded beef, chicken mole, carnitas, beef burrito bites, mixed veggies, refried black beans, lentils, etc. They also had a chilaquiles bar with differnt kinds of yummy toppings - pickled onions, pico, sour cream, panela cheese, green and red sauce. They had the fixings for bagel and lox along with several cheeses and fruits. Lots of pastries and cereals for kids. A sweet lady was making french toast, pancakes, waffles and omlettes made to order. There was also delicious Mexican hot chocolate and coffee as well as a Mimosa and Bloody Mary station. I've had a lot of breakfast buffets and this was top notch!!

Tropical tuna salad with grilled pineapple (usually comes raw but I asked for seared tuna which was sliced and tasted amazing)

Absolutely loved this restaurant menu which was served in the lounge due to hurricane beryl. Kids loved their penne with butter and cheese or pomodoro. My husband got a zarandeado fish fillet that was just perfect and I got the tuna salad (tropical) and asked them to sear the tuna wowzers. It came with avocado and grilled pineapple. The service of the two gentlemen who worked round the clock for servicing meals that were centralized in the d lounge were just the nicest guys and so kind. Anytime we asked for anything they never failed to deliver. My kids wanted extra hashbrowns from breakfast and even though they were closed they did it for us. We loved this hotel and its restaurants but especially their service which is second to none. We will be back!

Buffet is on point! Chilaquiles with beans and cheese! Plus Cava Mimosas with fresh OJ

Good option if you're not trying to leave the Ritz property for breakfast. Side note: if you're staying here there really aren't that many other options anyways, so this is a good one! $36 USD for the all you can eat/drink buffet. I would say it's worth it if you're really hungry so you can really eat everything. Lots of great options! I was starving and also exhausted and had zero intentions of waiting for some of the nearby places to open. Also didn't feel like walking to Starbucks this morning. Some mornings you just aren't feeling it! And on mornings such as those, it's nice to have a buffet option with bottomless cava mimosas. Not to mention their OJ is fresh squeezed ( as it should be!). The restaurant is large with lots of seating and most importantly well spread out so you have plenty of space and privacy. I got a table by the window and as it was still early ( open at 7am and I do like to be punctual!) there weren't a ton of people. I started off with some nice OJ that kept getting filled up by the waiters. And I was totally fine and not ashamed that they filled it easily 10 times, it was that fabulous! They have a section of traditional American breakfast. Waffle station, omelette, etc. But remember! You are in MEXICO! And while I may be a touch biased, there is nothing greater in this world than Mexican breakfast. I did wish they had a few more options of Mexican breakfast, but they did have chilaquiles that were very tasty! They also had a lot of salsas to choose from, but I also go right for the good with the grilled habanero. The mimosa station is nice and I love that they have good quality cava. So I didn't make myself an actual mimosa, I poured myself a flute of chilled Cava and occasionally sipped on my delicious OJ. Sometimes we improvise! The service was awesome and I only wish they had a few more offerings of Mexican breakfast. I'm sure if I had asked they would have whipped it right up! But I was perfectly pleased with my two servings of chilaquiles.

Lots to like at El Cafe Mexicano (open daily for breakfast buffet or lunch) at the Ritz Carlton Cancún including the service, ceviche, and hot chocolate. I didn't take advantage of the buffet, but did enjoy a late brunch and just about everything it brought. If you only eat one thing at the Ritz Carlton, I recommend the Yucatán Ceviche (5 stars) served with Frech Corn Chips and Crisps. It's also available at the Caribe Grill and from room service. Consider, it a perfect compliment to your beachfront vacation. A Torta del Sur with Braised Pork and Avocado (4 stars) on a soft Bread Bun was equally hearty and refreshing. It tasted like comfort food ... and it was. We missed breakfast and the brunch, but since my wife was desperately craving hot chocolate, the server and kitchen were kind enough to find, prep, and serve some. I don't know if it is on the menu or how much it cost, but it was worth it because it was warm chocolaty goodness and my wife was happy. As with anything at the Ritz Carlton Cancun, you should expect 5-star service ... and it's exactly what we found at this restaurant. Because of the stellar service, incredible ceviche, and classic hot chocolate, I'm rounding up to 5 stars for El Cafe Mexicano.

Exceptional customer service Donaldo, Guillermo are the best! Buffet for breakfast has a very wide selection of items. Excellent. Tinga and chilaquiles my fav

Somebody needs to be first to review this place so I guess it's me. Tucked away in the Ritz Carlton is an elegant yet very relaxed atmosphere with huge windows overlooking the ocean and sofas at most tables. Champagne brunch is why I'm here. Spanish Cava to be exact but it is brut and goes down splendidly. The selection is not large but it works. Most of the standards and a few Mexican dishes for good measure. If the buffet is not tantalizing enough they also include most of the menu to choose from. Steak and eggs for me. The view, the vibe, the service and the bubbles overcome the smallish selection and I round up to a 5 star rating.

All-in-all it was worth the inconvenience. Very eclectic menu, warm atmosphere and outstanding service. I started withe the Mango-Tamarind: Lettuce, Indian walnut, mango, blueberries, Cotija cheese, mango-habanero dressing and tamarind billet. Unique and tasty. "Swiss Chicken Enchiladas" for the main course was not what you get at a local Mexican joint -- Four tortillas stuffed with chicken, bathed in a creamy tomatillo sauce with melted cheese and a base of refried black beans. This was a 5-star dish! I couldn't resist ordering a side dish though I didn't need to because the enchiladas were really enough, so I indulged myself with fries: these were not your run of the mill French fries. Porfirio's Potatoes -- French fries with chipotle pepper aioli, parmesan cheese and parsley. Finally, if you like ice cream I highly recommend that you order BOTH offerings: 1) "ICE CREAM TASTING" - Strawberry ice cream, chocolate ice cream from Metate, marzipan ice cream and vanilla from Papantla. Served with grated coconut, chocolate grain, M&M's, Oreo cookies and ice cream cones; and, 2) "PORFIRIO'S MOLECULAR ICE CREAM" - served with cajeta Worcestershire sauce in an ice cream cone. (I know it sounds disgusting right? Nope it worked. The chef is just showing off with this dish)

I took some notes and this is what I thought of the dishes. Xoajacan Imoladas - The mole is perfection. The flautas, superb. Everything in this plate is a symphony of what I would expect from Xoajaca. 9.5/10 Barbacoa Bonemarrow - Barcacoa is on point. The Marrow is Sublime. Together with the accompaniments is superb. I dream of Marrow everyday. This is a 10/10 Yellow fin Tosatadas - Superb!!! One of the best tostadas I have ever had. The microgreens, the sauce and the square Tostada works well all together. 8.8/10 Salmon - Cooked perfectly. The corn is a great accompaniment. The fish is impeccably seasoned. This dish is heaven sent with a 9.8/10 Grilled Octopus - Grilled perfectly, I can tell by the texture. The mash is superb, they used margarine instead of butter and I absolutely love the contrast from the traditional mash. 9.8/10 Mexican Rice - Its pretty good. It does have a nice seafoodish finish. The pepper was actually spicy. Nice and pleasant rice dish. 8/10 Charred Avocado Salad - Grilled avocado is a bit of a wash. It did make it look good on the plate. The dressing is a little weak. Needs a little more zip, some citrus or vinegar would give this salad some justice. Its a little uninspired 7/10 Service is impeccable and attentive and the atmosphere is lovely.

Many of the dishes have strange ingredients that the regular gringo hasn't heard of, which makes this even more exotic! I consider myself a mexican food expert, to some degree, and they're serving dishes that are so inventive, so wild, so fresh, so delicious! The dining area is split between a covered outside area, and seating on the grass overlooking the lagoon. Be careful, there's alligators in there! The service was fantastic- the waiter was patient, spoke English, and made excellent recommendations. I got fish with peppers, octopus ceviche, and some mezcal, followed by a honey and anise Mayan drink. All of which were delicious! My dining companion had a strange pepper with some fish- also nom! I will say, right off the bat, this place is loud if you're hear during peak meal time. While the mariachi band was a nice added touch, it only exacerbated the already loud dining experience. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic meal, this isn't the place for you. But if you're ok speaking up a bit throughout the meal, do not pass on this restaurant. I opted to try things that I wouldn't easily find at a restaurant, even in Los Angeles where I live. That meant I tried an aztec corn soup for my appetizer (it tasted like liquid corn bread and I say that as a compliment) and then for my main I tried a Molcajete Mixto. It was absolutely amazing. The best way I could explain it is a Mexican bibimbap. Each of the 3 types of meats were grilled perfectly, the special cheese was mild, but had a really great texture to it. The bits of cactus were cooked to perfection where they were soft, but with just the right amount of bite to it. I gobbled that dish up so quickly and considered asking if I could have another one. If I wasn't already stuffed I absolutely would have. It was probably the single best dish I had the entire week I was in Cancun. I've now made it my quest to find somewhere near me where I can get something even remotely comparable. I also appreciate that they had 'kid cocktails.' All 3 of my boys felt so adult sipping on their special mocktails. Our wait staff was a tad out of sorts, they would often say they were going to grab something for us (i.e. a high chair) and then completely dissapear. In the case of the high chair we just ended up finding one ourselves. But I think this issue stemmed from them just being so busy and slightly overstaffed. When they were with us, they were nothing short of fantastic. Honestly, if I ever return to Cancun, I will absolutely be returning here. It was that good. It makes getting the all inclusive package worthwhile. I will, however, avoid going on mariachi night.
