Don't be fooled by Xantolo's location and Touristy perception. A local recommended it to us and he was spot on. Best dinner for us in Mexico on our entire trip. Service was a little slower and prices were a little higher but we did not mind. As it turned out, we were in for quite the night. Every dish was flavorful and better than the next. Their Mezcal Ceviche is not to be missed and their Carne Asada was the best we've had by far. The corn bread is also one of the most unique deserts we have ever had and the bonus on top, was the free live music we were serenaded with. This review is on the drinks and the vibes. Every time I visited this location I was full. LOL. The bartenders were great and I requested a Coconut Mojito (Coconut rum vs regular) Which is my favorite. And WE ALL KNOW Isla Mujeres LOVES their mojitos... But it was amazing :)! They also had a professional flute player as live entertainment and that was beautiful. The bar has swings and is very nice to sit at and people watch as all the foot traffic passes. We stopped by while we were visiting because they had some amazing live music. It was busy but we were lucky enough to get a table so we could sit and relax. It was a really fun night and the entire street was filled up to hear this music, people were dancing in the street. Service was good. We ended up staying so long because of the music that we ordered food. I had an espresso martini and Birria tacos. The drink was delicious, cold and the perfect pick me up. Started with ceviche mezcal,light and fresh seasoning and fresh shrimp and octopus Mango, red onion, cucumber cilantro. Simple and refreshing. We started off with the calamari, the breading was a bit strange, not the usual crispy texture; got really soggy when we squeezed a slice of lime on it. My fiancé got the tacos al pastor, they were great the bits of pineape were refreshing. I got the tacos arracherra and I really enjoyed them they had a layer of mozzarella cheese which added extra flavor. Lots of places in Isla offer 2-for-1 drink specials, but Xantolo is far and away the best one. They have 10 or more delicious, handcrafted margaritas, mojitos, and pina coladas to choose from on the happy hour special, which runs until 7pm. You get 2 for about 190 pesos, which right now comes out to less than $5 US per drink. The other thing we love here (not on HH special) is the Tepachito, which combines an ancient Mayan pineapple drink called tepaché with mezcal, and it comes with a burning cinnamon stick in it. It's amazing! The food is also great. We had nachos, a delicious salad, and fajitas. Ambience is awesome with a large covered patio, swings at the bar, and a salsa band at night with people dancing in the (pedestrian) street! Note that Yelp has had this location wrong for years. Came here because it was highly recommended on TripAdvisor and they had the meal I was looking for. We had the guac and the cheese fondu for appetizer. Then I ordered the lobster tacos. My husband had the grilled octopus. He said it was delicious. It was salsa night so they had a live band. I also had 2 very delicious drinks which I can't remember the name. It is on their drink specialty menu. It was the first and last drink. Our waiter was Adolfo. He was very attentive. The loss of the star is that they charge $5 to pay by card. We were in Isla Mujeres for the day and stopped in to grab some food and drinks before getting on the ferry back to the mainland. We saw their menu board and checked the reviews on Yelp and decided on Xantolo. Friendly service and chill ambiance. It is a great location to hang out and people watch. I tried a couple of cocktails and found them to be on the sweet side, but well made. We had the guacamole which we enjoyed; it was much better than the ones we had from the resort we were staying in. We enjoyed one of meat dishes which the menu indicated was meant to be shared. It was served in a cool stone bowl in the shape of a skull and had some grilled steak, chicken, shrimp and cheese on the bottom. It was served with some blue corn tortillas and some cheese quesadillas. Fun presentation and tasty. We had to leave to catch the ferry, but one of the guys said that at 10pm, they usually have live music. Next time, we'll have to plan an overnight trip so we can hang out a bit longer. read more

I wish I could give them a 3.5. Originally we tried to visit but didn't realize the location moved but the location hadn't been updated with search engines. The owner gave me another point to direct me to their location. They are located midway down the walkway from their old location. They are near Rooster so I used that as my guide. We enjoyed our fried fish snapper but I have to admit I've had better. The rice was hard, almost as if it was undercooked. The guacamole was okay. It definitely tasted fresh, both items, but both lacked seasoning. We enjoyed our drinks which were 2x1. We had the strawberry margarita and a pina colada. The flies are ruthless but I've experienced them in all types of tropical environments like Maldives and Tanzania. So I can't fault the restaurant but they did make us speed up our lunch despite the fans that were going around the venue. The server was awesome - very friendly and super attentive. There was 6 of us and we all got something different. But we did start with two orders of their guacamole. It was very tasty and refreshing. All the dishes were plated very nice and I loved my dish. I went with the Cochinita pibil, and I also got to try my boyfriends. He order the Carnitas. Our plates came with a few sides and blue corn tortillas. I did not get to try my friends dishes, but they were all satisfied with what they order. Staff was really nice and attentive. And we also got to meet the owner, Francisco.
