Whole snapper with beans and rice. Yummy! Would get again for sure
Jessica A.

Went for lunch looking for a more traditional, authentic Mexican place. Los Abuelos did not disappoint. We started with chips with guacamole and a mescal margarita. My husband and I both had the fresh caught whole fried snapper with beans and rice. Everything was seasoned perfectly and tasted great. Prices were fair and server was attentive. Place is a little hole in the wall off the main strip of restaurants but I say give it a try if you want a more local dish that delivers.

Wow, Nice family owned taqueria. Had the grilled ajo snapper super tasty. Damion was really nice and reasonably priced meals. Don't miss this place.

We have been coming to Isla for many years now. Each time we go it is a requirement that we stop in for a wonderful dinner at Los Abuelos. The family and pets are absolutely adorable. The food is delicious, fresh and at a fair price point for the island. The snapper is my favorite! I highly recommend stopping in for a fantastic dinner made by a lovely family.

Saw this place had some good reviews online so decided to stop by for lunch. Ordered some strawberry margaritas and they were by far the best tasting ones out of my entire trip, they were so refreshing and delicious. For lunch, I got the mixed (shrimp, fish and conch shell) ceviche and it was really good. Definitely a must if you like seafood. The staff was really nice and attentive. Highly recommend this place even if it's just for a drink. Super close to Playa Norte.

Wonderful family restaurant. We had the whole fish three times during our one week stay. Don't expect a "hopping" party environment, kick back, relax and enjoy home cooking...you'll feel like you're in someone's home, complete with pet dog & cat. At first glance you may think to pass it by, don't...wonderful food and drinks! Our last meal was my husband's birthday, they treated him to cake and we took pix. We'll come back to Isla just to go to Abuelos! Thank you Jennifer & family!

Red Snapper for 2, so good!!!

Mariscos muy autenticos (estilo Mexicano). Servicio muy amable. Authentic Mexican seafood! Sooo good. Servers were especially kind and attentive. They have a beautiful terrace too, super relaxing! 10/10 would recommend.

Tequila shrimp with rice and veggies! Soooo good!

The food here is delicious and 100% home cooked! It's a family, an abuela, behind the stove. The daughter or granddaughter was the server and the service was great! I had the grilled conch and my fiancé had the tequila shrimp. it was sooo good!! I'm still drooling over it. You can't get that anywhere else for the price. Super adorable. The plates were perfect! Highly recommend. And please tip them well! They deserve it!

Fish tacos and shrimp nachos

This delicious family run restaurant is incredible. Tucked away by right off the beach, we landed on the island, checked into our hotel and came right here for lunch. We had the shrimp nachos and fish tacos. Everything is fresh and made by Abuela. The upstairs open dining was refreshing as was the mango margarita.

This restaurant was a must during our trip to Isla Mujeres! We heard so much great things about this place from multiple people in our resort that we had to try it- even if it was for takeout since we didn't want to miss our boat! What we got: Fried whole red snapper: yummy Since we had about an hour catamaran ride back to the resort, I decided to open the container and eat. And everyone could smell the deliciousness coming from the food! You could tell they wished they had gotten it! The fish wasn't dry at all, seasoned simply but flavorful, and the sides it came with were also good!

Fajitas with fish

Love this place- the food was delicious. Their spicy green salsa is on point and their handmade tortillas are so delicious! Everything was seasoned well and I loved it all! The cocktails are perfect- fresh squeeze lime juice for both the Paloma and margarita. Lovely family running this place. We'll be back for sure :)

She was walking us a little towards the back, but since it was my first time to Isla, I wanted to people-watch, so I asked about a table up front. As soon as we headed over, I saw why she passed it - it was right next to the saxophone player! Thank goodness his volume level was perfect! Just loud enough to be heard over the crowds walking down the 'lane' out front and the restaurant diners' chatting. But not so loud that we 3 couldn't chat. We loved it! Now these two can EAT - and love to try everything on the menu, whereas I tend to eat smaller portions. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were fantastic - huge pieces of shrimp, so good! The lobster mac n cheese is so good, I would have loved to bring a big container of it home with me! The restaurant is very busy but very clean and tables are well organized for maneuvering a quick trip to the restroom before leaving. Our server, Maylen was attentive and pleasant. The bar area, facing the street, looked like a lot of fun, I'll have to try it next time!

Pro tip with all tacos: you gotta eat it fast or else the tortilla collapses in your hand. They had these amazing chips to go with not your usual salsa but a ketchup/mayo combo and a very very spicy chili crisp. I made the mistake of eating too many of the chips and not having enough room for my tacos. The coconut shrimp was just okay. Very tiny shrimp. My husband raved about the lime soup here for the rest of the trip; I can confirm that it was excellent. Fun casual atmosphere - our food came out pretty fast, even with all of the tables filled. Bonus points for playing music videos of 2010s pop hits on the tv by our table.

This restaurant definitely had I more local vibe compared to some of the tourist places up north. As soon as we got there I could tell the employees or maybe even the owner started counting up how many women are party and started to shuffling the tables around to accommodate us. This was definitely one of the highlights in terms of The food that we had. Everyone was happy with their dreams and their food We got the mixed grill which served for adults. The shrimp, the lobster, the steak, the chorizo all of it was a good mix. There was a lot of vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower as well as a salad. Someone else in our party got the enchiladas and a burrito and they're very particular about their Mexican food and they both said it was the best meal of the Trip. The only item I wouldn't order and not because it's bad just because it wasn't as good was the carbonara. I ordered it to split between the children and they actually loved it but if I were an Italian I would probably be left wanting.

Here are the top three reasons why you should go here multiple times. 1)The food. All homemade and perfectly portioned. The guacamole and cheesy dish was the best appetizer I've ever had. I was pretty full with just that. Even the chips are homemade. For dinner we ate tacos and a quesadilla, both solid and eaten quickly. Earlier we got an omelette and it was perfect with plenty of sides. 2)Price. We two appetizers, two entrees and drinks and it cost about 300 pesos. That's 15 bucks for us Americanos. If you walked about ten steps across the street, you would pay for the same food at about triple that price. 2)People. So this place does not have fancy music, TVs or even nice chairs. It's simple, clean and family run. They were always super nice and quiet, never pushing anything but still attentive to our needs. I hope you enjoy this place as much as we did.

Because we had been on the resort for the majority of the time, we were on the hunt for an authentic taco stand on the island. After passing what seemed like 100 tourist trap restaurants, we walked right up to this place. One look at the handwritten menu and quaint, outdoor kitchen, we knew we had found the place. The menu featured various tacos, empanadas, ceviche, and other traditional Mexican street foods. I ordered three chicharron tacos (because I'm obsessed with fried pork), while my bf ordered an al pastor, a chorizo, and a chicharrón taco, along with three empanadas. The food was made fresh, so there was a bit of a wait, but not too long. Man oh man, was it worth the wait. I honestly wasn't even hungry, but couldn't pass up the chance to eat street tacos in MX. The chicharron was perfectly crispy with a nice fat-to-skin-to-meat ratio. Did I mention that the tortillas were all freshly handmade as well? Additionally, their salsa picante was just that-- picante! It was hot as Hades, which wasn't apparent from the light green color of the sauce. But try some, it's worth it. I was in Mexico for four days and these chicharron tacos were, without a doubt, the best thing I ate. Nom nom!
