Omg......when I tell u slap your mama good. How did we come across this lil grill. I'll tell u how. We took a 15 min walk from the hotel in search of another taco spot and found this place. And I'm so glad. When I tell I I've never been a fan of pico de Gallo this place changed my mind. It came free with the complimentary chips and salsa and it set the mood for the rest of the meal. I've never enjoyed pico de Gallo in the states. Actually hated it. But let me tell u they did it so right. Have to get it here. This is what was left. We had the steak tacos. If you understand what I'm saying then you should bring your friends and family here 3 times every week. If you are put off by this review then you should stay at your all-inclusive hotel and enjoy the crappy food. The food, cold beer and service here are excellent. Steak tacos, chips, salsas, guacamole and everything else is dynamite. You are dining close to the authentic streets of Isla. If you or your significant others are fragile about this concept then you can try something else. Great food and great service. The dive bar across the street is great for dancing off your dinner. We had a good food experience here. Both my wife and I ordered the fish filet Tikinxic. The fish we delicious and expertly seasoned. This was one of my favorites so far on the island. The atmosphere can be a little offputting - there is a karaoke bar across the street and it was loud enough that it was a little difficult for us to talk seated at an outside table. However, the food was good enough to warrant another visit in the future. read more

Everything we have ever got there has been excellent. Wynne gone there a couple times each to the last few years. I strongly encourage you to go. I love the enchiladas suiza and my husband loves the lobster thermadore. The prices are super reasonable. They are closed on Thursdays so don't wait to go! I had a quesadilla, absolutely filled to the brim with steak, and only 2 USD. Only. Two. Dollars! And some of the best steak I've ever had. Everything else was reasonably priced as well. Easily the best restaurant we have been to on Isla Mujeres in the three times we've vacationed here! This is not downtown and not even near the water. It's in a residential area in the middle of the island. After a few days of getting increasingly tired of the highly rated but also painfully mediocre options in downtown Isla Mujeres, we sought this place out on the day we rented a golf cart. We arrived a little after lunch and they weren't even open yet. A lady saw us and told us to come back in 10 minutes. In less time than that, we were seated. We ordered different preparations of the arrachera steak. To be honest, my expectations weren't that high. I tend to stick to seafood options on the island, but I was craving beef. One bite of my steak and holyyyy. Oh my goodness. It was so flavorful! And tender! The beef had a good amount of fat that made it decadent without feeling greasy in your mouth. It also had some parts that had some light char for flavor. The sauce was bright and acidic. It perfectly complemented the beef. We sat there in silence for the most part throughout that meal -- we just made noises to indicate to each other how good the food was. If I'm back in these parts, I'm definitely going back to this place. read more

Don't be put off that this place is on a little residential street nowhere near the water or other restaurants. This was by far the best dinner we had while here in Isla Mujeres but not the most expensive. Service and servings are great! Order a lemonade and they bring you a glass of lemonade plus your own little pitcher of lemonade for refills. I had the garlic butter lobster tail. Hubby had a special beef dish with a strange name. Great prices and great food! We'd come back here again! The server was also very welcoming and friendly. This was a tiny little restaurant on a small street off the main road closer to the northern part of the island behind the Aki super market. I ordered the Tintixika which was a delicious grilled white fish. Which came with rice, salsa and guacamole as well as fresh rolls and corn tortillas. The husby had the mixed grill kabob with chicken and beef, baked potato and veggies, which according to him was, "the best kabob I'd ever had!" My eldest ordered a mushroom and cheese quesadilla which he loved and he hates mushrooms! Just order the appie size, it's huge! He also order chicken taquitas which were rolled crunchy tacos filled with chicken and topped with shredded greens,sour cream and cheese, oh you get three of them too! Very yummy! My younger son ordered the marinated grilled beef with bean tortilla. The beef was super tender and tasty with Mexican spices. All were listed under 'mains' in their menu. I had only been on the island for like 30 minutes, long enough to drop off my gear and head out to eat. We were being taken to what we were told was Trip Advisors #1 rated restaurant on the island. Ok ok, we thought. We are Canadian, most food in Mexico is either really good or really crap. At least from my experience. Basto's Grill is a small joint located off a side street in Colonia La Gloria, just around the corner from the Super Xpress. With about 6 -8 tables inside and 3-4 outside this is a quaint, family run establishment that greets each guest with a salsa plate and bowl of house made chips. The crew I was with all ordered meat. Steak, Chicken and tacos. I ordered the Vegetarian Fajitas. Apparently the carnivores were enjoying their feast as the Yums, OMGs and such were confirming their approval. The fajitas were pretty awesome. No queso, no sour cream, just all veggie goodness. Here is the thing. We find ourselves eating at Basto's over and over again. Veggie tacos, quesadillas, and more. I really enjoy the food and love that they remember us every time we go. The only complaint, breakfast, it was a little less then average. Just got for the afternoon evening food, you wont be disappointed. read more

We visited Bastos early afternoon for a quick small meal. We sat down and were provided a bowl of chips and 4 salsas. They all had decent flavour. My wife and I split a portion of fajitas arrachera. The steak was so flavourful and tender. Its one of the best I have had. It came with great Guacamole and a fresh pico de gallo. Decently priced. We were in Isla for a week in late July '21 and went to this place, unfortunately, only once. I definitely would have gone more times if we had the time, but there are some many good choices to choose from that it was hard to decide which place we wanted to go eat. We went in a group of 9 people and they were able to easily accommodate our larger group. My wife and I shared the parrilla for 2 people. The chicken and the beef were super juicy and tender, and the chorizo and frijoles charros that came with it were also fantastic. My only complaint is I want more and they're too far away from my house in the USA. the servers were very nice and helpful as well as we met the chef when he came out. They were able to chat for a little bit between tables and explained a little bit of the history of the restaurant and its beginnings. If you are hungry and looking for a more local experience, this is the place to come. :0) read more

After a recommendation, my family had dinner here on our last night on the island. I wish we had discovered it sooner - SO GOOD. The customer service was amazing and they even brought a little roll out for my toddler while we waited for our food. My vegetarian quesadilla was divine, especially because of the homemade tortilla.
