This was my second time here and still not impressed. Food tasted like cafeteria food and wasn't even hot when served. The servers were okay, not bad but nothing special either. The pork ribs were on the dry side (as in over prepared) but the peppered turkey stood out as my favorite. It seems el paso BBQ sauces are all on the sweeter side which isn't too bad. First time visit. Easy access, right off the freeway in West El Paso. Parking was easy and our timing must have been right because we got seated for dinner right away. Smelled great as soon as you walk in and large menu to select from. Party of four and we decided to share the 3 and 4 item sampler, with an extra side order. Since my visit to the restaurant, I have gotten take-out 3 times. Each time I was highly impressed with the presentation: inside a sturdy, large white cardboard box, the items are carefully arranged in separate plastic containers with lids, and all meat carefully wrapped in foil. This is highly unusual and quite a pleasure, since there was no spillage in the car or counter at home. w hile some meats needed a slight warmup, everything else arrived well. The distance from the house to the restaurant is just over 5 miles. The servings were large, possibly larger than on the platters. The food is delicious, especially sitting barefoot in pajamas or sweats. Great BBQ! Fresh made bread, desserts.

I was really excited to eat at the State Line when I went to El Paso. Our waitress was nice. I ordered brisket and sausage, however when I received my meal, I had turkey instead of sausage. My friend's order was also incorrect. We told the waitress, but rather than provide us with the correct order, she said "sorry" and didn't return until she brought us the check. The food was good, however, the sauce was the same on all of the meat which made the meal boring. I did enjoy the potato salad. Definitely wasn't what I was hoping for! read more

It's always hard being a vegetarian on the road, especially when dinner decisions are made by the majority. In this case, I found myself at The State Line BBQ restaurant. All of my carnivore friends enjoyed their plates, and even my, the lone grazer, found a bounty. Their grilled vegetable kabobs were wonderful... a Texas sized plate full of onions, mushrooms, peppers, yellow squash, and zucchini all grilled to perfection. It was served with a giant baked potato with a choice of toppings, and a tasty slaw. Beans came with the plate by default, but they had bacon in them (memo to State Line... I'm not sure any meat eaters are going to be ordering the vegi kabobs!). The waiter was flexible and offered me options to replace the side. Very cool... he didn't have to do that! I was happy, my carnivore friends were happy... I'll be back the next time I'm in town! read more

This place was great. We went early for lunch. We tried a little bit of everything and were very pleased with everything we tried. The best thing was the beef ribs. They were freaking awesome. Pretty great bbq joint. Not a fan of their beans, but that's just my opinion. Ribs and pulled pork were delicious, no extra sauce needed! Our waitress wasn't very available after bringing our food-no refills and took a while to get our checks (we were there at 3pm so not busy at all). This just isn't good BBQ, and please don't let it represent Texas BBQ. The meat was pretty amateur, anyone with an oven can make it. That wasn't the worst part though...they have the meat swimming in this nasty sauce. This is TEXAS! BBQ shouldn't need sauce, much less have the meat floating in the stuff. Don't eat here if you are wanting good BBQ, it's not good. I've eaten at atleast 100 BBQ joints in Texas, and this is at the bottom of the list. read more

We stopped here for dinner spontaneously one evening back in Dec 2014. We were driving across country and wanted to eat local. We completely enjoyed our experience. Great service, great Pecan local beer, and great food! The ambiance was fun too. We're heading there to eat now driving back to Cali. It's May 2015. read more

After church lunch. Drove from Las Cruces and we had great and fast service. It was not extremely busy , but got busier as time progressed. Restrooms needed service. I'll say its good eats.. if the beans didn't taste like they got scorched they just add more chili power and made him taste biter.. the potato salad could had too much Mustard coleslaw was OK.. Although you do have another BBQ place up the road from this one, that I though was much close to the real thing as far as great country style BBQ.. I've been coming here since I was a kid... Hasn't disappointed me yet :). The home made bread is the best thing ever... And the sauce... And sausages... And potato salad.. Good food, good drinks. Liked it :-) Tried the State Line restaurant on 1/14/12 while on a road trip. It was easy to find, (on Sunland Park, just a few blocks South of the 10 fwy), and it was close to my hotel in the Western end of El Paso. The look, feel and attitude of the restaurant is clean, and warm, and the service from our waitress was excellent. Fast & friendly. I had the 5 Meat Smokehouse and enjoyed it. It wasn't the best BBQ I've ever had, but it wasn't bad. Unfortunately I wasn't able to try the bread that others talk about because they'd run out of it on the evening I went. Love me some BBQ!!! Brisket, shredded beef, and sausage was good. I was very excited and my mouth started watering when I walked in. That was definitely a good sign for things to come. Place is great I love there potatoe salad best I ever and will ever have.I always order the platter with chicken,brisket,sausage,beans,patatoe salad.But the past few months I have gone 2 times and there quality seems to go downhill as far as the brisket and chicken goes.The brisket "was great" but the past times for me the brisket has been terrible it looked like they just threw me some discoulered scraps from the bottum of the barrel or something.The chicken BOTH times have been slacked no meat on it barely developed and just scrap crap.I took 2 bites and it was gone with not much excitement in there food.I hope it was just these few times I eat there its a great place and the service is always great specially when it's super packed AS ALWAYS. read more

The food here was okay I've had better. For a party of 4 we waited 30 minutes for our food on a Saturday evening. We had to send our steak back since it wasn't cooked the way we requested it but the waitress was helpful. The prices don't fit the experience, for our visit anyway. The only things I can say is that its a nice place, and have great food- bread and meat.

In the center of the main room, there's a sign that reads "Home of the Big Rib"; below this sign is a large rib made out of wood. I believe this to be an accurate representation of how poorly-cooked their ribs are. This is at least the fourth chance I've given this restaurant, and am more than comfortable saying that it will be my last. Better off going to Famous Dave's. read more

The whole meal was such a disappointment. I have been looking forward to visiting this place based on the reviews. I especially wanted to try the beef ribs. I ordered three meat platter with brisket, chicken, and beef rib. The portion is decent. Definitely not Texas size but not small either. It came with some side items, four small slices of brisket, quarter of a chicken and one strip of beef rib. My entire plate was cold. I really wanted to have falling off the bone moment with the beef rib. It was tough, under cooked, and bland. It had no smoke flavor at all. Chicken tasted like any chicken. Nothing worth mentioning. Brisket had a strange after taste. I am from Nashville so I know about BBQ. This place is not a BBQ destination. I haven't tried anything else, but today's meal was a big disappointment after long anticipated visit. read more

The Best beef BBQ ribs that I've ever eaten. I never forget the first time I went to the State Line. I had the mixed beef platter with ribs, beans, sausage, brisket and cole slaw and a loaf of bread and some ice cream. While all the food was at least good, the beef ribs and the superb BBQ sauce was the best. The meat was melt-in-your mouth tender and delicious. Ever since that first time I go straight for the ribs. i recommend the Big Daddy platter, with enough ribs for two. Outstanding Food, Outstanding Service!!! Ate lunch at State Line yesterday -- this was my first visit after hearing lots of raves. My friend had not been there in years, but remembered incredibly great BBQ, and wanted to try it again. The first thing we noted was the great customer service provided by the staff, and the quality of our lunch was beyond our expectations. I had the pulled pork sandwich, and it was outstanding -- with absolutely no fat (a real rarity). My friend said her cheeseburger was even better than she remembered, and the beans ranked up at the top of best we have eaten. After our meal, we again had excellent customer service, even to the point they opened the door for us when we left. In addition to quality food, the service provided from the minute we walked in the door, until we left was exactly why this restaurant has been in business so many years. We took my husband to the State Line for Father's Day. As always the food was superb and the customer service immaculate. I ordered the peppered turkey and moist brisket. The peppered turkey was moist and the pepper added a zing and made it lip smacking good. The brisket was tender, moist and full of flavor. My husband had the sausage plate. Talk about loading up! The sausage was tasty and has its own unique flavor. It is to die for. The potato salad, cole slaw and beans accompany the meal. All three compliment the meats. Take time to visit the State Line. Father's Day was coming up this year, and my Daddy wanted to eat at State Line on the day. As I now live in Dublin, Ireland, I couldn't pay for (or attend) dinner in person. I decided to get him a gift card so Father's Day dinner would be on me. I emailed State Line directly and then sent me over a form so I could purchase the gift card with ease. Mike and Bobbi were both extremely helpful and made this purchase as easy as it gets. As Father's Day approached, I noticed my Daddy hadn't gotten his card yet. Then Father's Day passed and he still hadn't received his card, even though Bobbi had posted it out to him several days in advance of the holiday. I contacted them to let them know he had not received the card, and they didn't go to State Line for the meal on Father's Day. They were AMAZING! Bobbi contacted her Manager, and he personally called my Daddy to apologize. Not only was that evening's meal complementary, but the Manager also gave my Daddy a replacement card for the one that was lost in the mail. I can't give enough praise for the wonderful customer service State Line provided to correct a problem that was not at all their fault. They went out of their way to make Daddy's belated Father's Day excellent. Our family has been eating at State Line for decades, and we've always enjoyed the delicious food. I wanted to be sure everyone heard my story and knows how much they care about their customers. JOB WELL DONE! read more

Great food, service and price and the bread they make is to die for- I love to take it home to make it into French Toast.

Ambiance? No. Price? Defiantly no. Charm? Sure it has all the charm of a run down slum. We got as far as a glass of bitter ice tea and called it quits there. To be a true BBQ house the first thing you need to know is how to make tea. They handed this bitter brew out and showed no sign of embarrassment. I hear good things about this place, drive over a hundred miles and when I get there I find a dusty, unkempt down in the heels building with all the charm of a ghetto. This place is like a vampire, not too bad when the lights are turned down low but can't stand the light of the day. Do yourself a favor, go to a Burger King or a Wendy's the floors are cleaner and the price is cheaper. Not to mention you won't be sitting on chairs with rock hard seats. I will not be back to this pretentious, overpriced dump again. read more
