Thought I would give this place a go as it was convenient to where I was staying while traveling on business. I decided to go with the two meat platter, picking Sausage and the 2nd cut Brisket. Everything looked good and fresh. Portions were a pretty good size. The slaw, potato salad and beans were good. The sausage and brisket were cooked well, the brisket could have possibly done with a little longer cook as it was still slightly chewy but the big one for me was they both needed a healthy dose of seasoning, especially the brisket. The service was good, my server did a great job and was polite, friendly and professional. I'm old enough to remember when this restaurant was "out on the middle of nowhere" El Paso has grown so much that is there is a wal mart next door. The staff are attentive and more than willing to address your requests. The food is well cooked, the Brisket is tender, representing a solid reliable BBQ. Though, I like my sauce with a bit more spice. The servings are a decent size and we took home a doggie bag. Compared to some of the other BBQ I have had in Texas this leaned more on the bland side. The star of the meal for me was the grilled veggies they had the most flavor. Honestly should be a zero. We got a server who was training and he did great but the food was not. We got this place recommended by my dads boss he claims the ribs fall off the bone every time he goes and we went and it did not ribs were hard and seemed reused just reheated. We turn to other tables and they are not the same. There was a party beforehand we literally think they gave us a burnt ribs that was meant for them and reheated it to give to us. As for when we got the final bill it was horrible! They automatically added a tip themselves of about 35 dollars, i guess they assumed we wouldnt tip and the server LAUGHED when we noticed this odd amount. IT IS NOT CUTE TO ACT QUIRKY! We stopped by for lunch today .. my elderly dad and myself. He's got some handicaps and I'm so grateful to the staff for making it easier for him by fixing up a place to eat in the bar area (after asking me) that was close to exit and restrooms. I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired -- primarily due to poor service and a lack of basic customer care. To start, our server got the order wrong. Mistakes happen, and that's understandable. However, the way it was handled was less than professional. When the customer realized one of the meat portions was missing from an entrée, instead of simply bringing out the missing item, the server insisted that a couple of pieces of meat from the original plate be returned to the kitchen- came with a side plate and asked to withdraw two strands of brisket. This was a strange and awkward request -- I guess they would rather throw it away or maybe put it back! instead of just correcting the issue and returning the entire plate! To make matters worse, the older woman in our group had thoughtfully ordered a child's plate -- which was supposed to include ice cream. When she politely requested the kids' desserts, the server refused, saying, "That's where we draw the line," as if giving ice cream to children would somehow bankrupt the establishment and had been asking for handout from the beginning . It was said in a way that felt curt and dismissive, and it left a sour note on what should've been a simple and joyful. I am not exactly sure what to think of The State Line. I have been here before previous to my yelping days. I don't have a ton to analyze - the meat, BBQ sauce, and bread were good. Otherwise the sides were not the best. I should have substituted for the baked potato. I would return, but I would not order the charro beans, coleslaw, or potato salad on a revisit. I've been coming to the State Line every time I'm in El Paso for 30 years. The ambiance is fun, the service fast and friendly, generous portions and great prices. They do an excellent steak, but I nearly always order the beef ribs. They're super meaty, always perfectly cooked and have a nice crust. The sausage is also really tasty. Tried this place out while working in El Paso. It was ok. I don't know if it's because I really wasn't in the mood for bbq or what? It didn't hit the spot for me. It was just ok. I ordered the brisket and sausage with beans and a side of grilled veggies. I will say that the grilled veggies were my favorite! I loved them more than the brisket and sausage. Service was good. The bartender was nice and attentive. The restaurant itself was clean and quiet. I had a late lunch so there was no one there when I went. It's really neat because once you leave the parking lot and walk thru the archway to the patio you're no longer in Texas anymore, you're in New Mexico, although you feel like you're in still Texas! And Good News, they ALLOW INDOOR DINING Now! (Covid compliant of course) Although you can dine outside but you won't receive waiter service & you're food will be served in to-go containers. So if you do not want to wait in line, definitely think about this option. We did and only waited 10 minutes to get our food as opposed to waiting an hour for a table inside. They have a great outdoor patio set-up, I'm sure with warmer temps coming they will probably start seating out there as well. The turkey and moist brisket were my two favorites. Both were tender and seasoned well. My buddy ordered the baked potato with chopped beef and it was a more than decent size. For the last 14 years I have been listening to my boyfriend gush about this place. So, when traveling from North Carolina to El Paso for the first time together, the first place we went was The State Line. We arrived just as they were opening, and we had our dog with us and it was starting to get warm, so leaving her in the car would have been an issue. They let us sit on the gorgeous patio. I have been going to the State Line since 1983. I have never been disappointed in the food. You do have to select what day and time you go to get the best service. They easily accommodate large parties, you just have to make the reservation in advance. I make out there as least once a year for special occasions. With the new liquor store added in, you can find some rare liquors and the prices are reasonable. read more

The brisket is really good, even the lean is still moist and the 1/4 chicken is the best I've found in the El Paso/Sunland Park area. Their specialty home made bread is always a must before and during a meal. A great bar selection. Their Grande Margaritas are huge.
