We were in town for a couple days on a short road trip from Seattle. This is a gem tucked away and…read morefound this behind the waterfront pier close to our hotel. This is a fish market with a stand in front and a couple of wooden tables in the street for people to sit. We asked some locals what they were waiting for and by a majority they all said this one of the top places in town for fish tacos and fish and chips. This is also a better deal then what you would get at the pier for 2 pieces of cod and fries bundle it was under 20 dollars. There is a condiments table to gather ketchup, seasonings, and vinegar. They provide tartar sauce. The crispy texture of the batter was on point with a satisfying crunch. It is on the thicker side but not overdone where it takes away from the fish. The fish inside was ohh so soft and tender steaming hot. When vinegar was added, the outside absorbed it well without getting soggy fast. We also got the grilled salmon which was done perfectly and had a subtle smokey flavor. The fish and chip cod was our winner and we actually ran back for a second serving before they closed. When I'm back in town I would love to try the chowder and fish tacos.

What Happened? We are locals and this honestly USED to be our favourite spot for Fish & Chips …read more.. and last Sunday we were so excited to take our out of town guests from the Prairies! Honestly, I was SO embarrassed! First the staff, which used to be so friendly barely made eye contact, and the Halibut and chips we ordered were frankly disgusting ... they clearly had not changed their oil in a very long time -- the fries were all stuck together, nasty, greasy and overcooked. Our meals had that "old greasy diner smell". I can live with non-existent hospitality, but not the poor quality food. My husband is a Tour Guide in Town and often suggest his guests go to Finest at Sea rather than restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf -- he certainly won't be doing that anymore!!! I really wish I hadn't left my phone in the car as I would have really liked to have added some photo evidence. Very Disappointed :(
