The two of us are always on the hunt for a great sit-down breakfast eatery, and had read so many good things about this place. I sure don't know who the folks are that lavish praise here because our experience certainly fell short of those kudos. To be fair, the wait time was tolerable and service was ok. But that's where our kudos end. It all then comes down to the food offering! Everything starts with a cup of joe, and the beverage they served was bitter and terrible (hello, Starbucks). We then changed to decaf, and unfortunately that tasted of residual pot cleaner with a hint of some form of coffee. Egad. Aside from its mediocre taste, the main dish was also a disappointment: the so-called Traditional Benny with .95 cent shredded potato option. Found it difficult to cut then chew through the muffin base, and the few bacon hunks that were hiding just under the egg and hollandaise sauce were as tough as genuine shoe leather. To add 'insult to injury', the shredded potatoes lacked any sort of taste (other than chopped straw) -- typical of inexpensive (reheated) frozen side-foods. To top it all off, while paying the bill they scattered a few hunks of packaged bubble gum onto the table. Meh, that was barely edible too. I think we were at our table for maybe 1/2 hour and could hardly wait to leave. At $50+ for barely edible food, we can't see ourselves returning to five and dime. read more

This is cute little breakfast establishment on the main street in Sidney. There is plenty of free parking which is always a plus. They are following COVID policies and requested to see our Vaccination Passport and picture ID when we entered. Masks are required to enter and can be removed when at your table....pretty standard practice for all restaurants now. We opted for a booth and the staff quickly came by taking our coffee orders. Great that they regularly topped up our coffees. I ordered the Lumberjack and it did not disappoint. Two free range eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and 3 pancakes. Eggs were cooked as requested and the sausage was exceptionally good. It was a lot of food and I came away very full and satisfied. Our server was pleasant and attentive...there was no issue with the service. It was a very positive breakfast experience and happy to recommend The Five & Dime if in Sidney and looking for breakfast. read more

Had lunch here with a friend while visiting, and was impressed. There was a small lineup, but they gave us a time estimate and took cell #s so we could go for a short walk and they called us when our table was free. Good stuff! Nifty diner decor and a bar with booze (but it was noon so no), friendly servers who were generous with the coffee, and the classic fare that I had was very good -- burger, fries, milkshake. Atmosphere: 70s diner feel. Leather covered tables, booths bar seats available. Latte (2/5) It was bitter. The espresso wasnt extracted well at all. Would not buy again. The Mexican benny (4/5) Great concept. Execution could be improved. Cilantro, "pico de gallo", chicken, banana peppers on an English muffin with medium eggs actually done medium and hollandaise that wasnt overly sour. Good portion. My gripe is that the "pico de gallo" was suspiciously similar to the bulk 1+litre of salsa I buy from superstore and the chicken didnt taste fresh, though it was moist. The chicken tasted like the preseasoned frozen chicken breast I get from Costco but I could be wrong. There was far too much green onion sprinkled all over the hash browns. The hashbrowns were nice and crispy and cooked thoroughly. I would buy this again with the moderation of having fresh pico de gallo. Pulled pork omelette (3/5) Again good concept but it had ricotta and cilantro and too much bbq sauce and green onion. A strange combo. I think it wouldve tasted better with mozzarella or cheddar instead of ricotta. Service was friendly and pretty quick. I'd recommend for certain dishes. read more

I've been here several times with my bf and solo. Staff are always so friendly. Once we even arrived close to closing and they still treated us well and didn't rush us! *tear* I've tried everything from the salmon eggs benny to chicken pesto sammie with soup to pancakes to burgers. I love the sandwiches and soup. My bf always goes for breakfast. He likes their coffee. I do not. But I'm bougie so yano... That's the only minus. Other than that, everything has been tasty, condiments always available if you need a bit more zing. We always return, especially when we visit his family in the hood. A tasty place to grab breakfast or brunch! They always have wonderful service and are so great about accommodating my gluten free needs. For example they always sub in fresh avocado instead of their sausage which contains gluten, or extra bacon I should say! They have gf toast and they bake my potatoes instead of deep frying them. Was in town for our anniversary and wanted a burger, no joke one of THE BEST burgers either of us has eaten!!!! We both ordered the Breakfast Burger (mine without the BBQ sauce). Be warned, they're huge!!!! For our sides I had the salad and my husband had the fries, both were delicious. The fries were crispy and fluffy at the same time and the salad was fresh. Beverages, I had a local IPA ( bit strong, but that's what you get with an IPA) he had a Lemonade (tasted fresh squeezed). Staff was lovely. Our hotel was walking distance from this old school dinner and we ate here twice it was so good. We had an awesome experience right from start with the friendly hostess and wait staff. I had a buffalo chicken burger for lunch the first day and the fries are very addicting. Felt like a breakfast out this morning. Decided to try the five and dime in Sidney. Though I was thinking eggs hash brown etc, the menu said fries. I didn't want fries with breakfast, chose the 3 waffles. What a mistake, when it came it was 3 pieces 3/4 of about a 5" waffle. It was as chewy as leather and wasn't anything nice about it. I paid for my coffee though they did offer it free. I wasn't looking for a free meal ( I ate one of the pieces). I was looking for a decent breakfast. Not there apparently at this place. read more

This is a great little gem in Sidney. The breakfast potatoes are so good. Portion sizes are big. Couldn't finish everything. I had the everything Benny. Hollandaise sauce is very good and great for dipping the potatoes. Service was great. The 3 people working were moving like a well oiled machine. Very efficient. We will be back. read more

We went to the Five and Dime today after the Remembrance Day ceremony.There was about a 20 minute wait as it seemed pretty busy.My oinker eggs Benny was well prepared and delicious.My husband ordered the ribs and they were stone cold.There was a big chunk of meat on top of the ribs which prevented them from properly being heated through.We sent them back only to receive the same chunk of meat on top of the ribs.Of course they were stone cold as well.Go for the breakfast as they seem to do them very well. read more

I was on the ferry heading back to Anacortes, when I realized I left my debit card at the diner. After a quick call, I received my card in the mail with a lovely note.
