Although I didn't take any pictures, I felt this place was worth the review. We went here on a whim because the cafe we planned to go to had a line out the door. Someone we passed on the street recommended Avalon, so we gave it a try. The place is small and cozy and we did not have a wait on a Saturday morning. The place had a very homey, family style that I adored. Our server was very busy (she had all the tables to herself) but she was really nice and good at her job. Wonderful and hearty "classic" breakfast with fluffy eggs, generous potatoes, great bacon and an English muffin. The fruit cup I ordered on the side was also nice with at least five different fresh fruits. The server, Casey, was extremely kind and thoughtful about recommendations. We ended up at the Avalon after we decided the wait for Blue Fox was too long. It was totally the right decision. Not only did we have food in our bellies before we would have been sat, it was absolutely delicious. My husband's Benny was avocado, tomato and feta and was lovely. I had a delicious omelet. The real standout for both of us was the oat bread and strawberry/rhubarb compote. We actually took home a loaf of the bread to have tomorrow morning. The restaurant was cute and the waitress was attentive and sweet. I can't speak to lunch or dinner, but breakfast was a real standout. read more

Everything me and my boyfriend had was delicious! I just had the classic with a pancake end he had a Benedict and it hit the spot. I could tell that it was all made with love, especially the housemate bread! Also, our server was so nice and friendly. Make sure you try the hot sauce, it's the best I've ever had!!!! When you're at the mercy of someone else for breakfast choices, you just have to go with it. This was breakfast spot #2 that we went to on my vacation, and while it doesn't bowl me over, it's definitely worth a stop. Nothing spectacular, and I must agree that the potatoes are nothing to write home about, but service is good and it's cozy in here. To be quite honest, nothing was memorable about my meal, which is why the three stars stand. Worth a try, but there are probably better places. read more

Avalon is a nice little restaurant, open for breakfast and lunch on Fort Street. Cozy little place, everythign is homemade there. The Good: The food tends to be really good, as does the service. They always have really yummy homemade soups, and good handmade burgers. They have this really good hotsauce that I think they call TNT sauce, and their homemade bread is really good with the jam. The hollandaise sauce is TO DIE FOR. The Bad: I'm not a huge fan of the potatoes they make. Those, soup or salad are your usual choices as sides and i haven't really found a dressing i like. But again, the soups are always delish. The Ugly: Only thing I can think of is I wish that they were open a bit later. With my schedule, i seem to always just miss them. Very nice restaurant downtown Victoria. It seems like a family owned restaurant. I ordered Avalon skillet and it was quite good. My only complaint is that it had a little too much onion in it. The place makes their own bread and strawberry-rhubarb jam. All the food we had looked and tasted very much home made. The service was very nice as well. read more

This lovely little hideaway is my mothers favourite breakfast spot. I had been here before but never bothered to leave a review until now. The location is great and an easy walk for anyone in downtown Victoria. The restaurant seats only about 10-15 people and has a very open atmosphere. The staff are lovely and always great for a recommendation. The portions are rather large and they offer half sizes. More places should do this, not only because I'm not always hungry enough to eat a full meal but it makes it cheaper for me to go out and grab a quick bite without having to go to a fast food joint. The food is always fresh and always filling. They have a make your own omelette, so you can stuff it full of meat and veggies or just have some simple add ons. I Love mine with bacon, sausage and ham. If you are in the Victoria area for a visit this is a must stop. If you live here, you need to take your special someone or your girls for brunch. Went here on a recommendation. As a benny lover I have manged to find fantastic bennys all over the city. This was not one of them. The bread the bennys were on was fantastic. The hash browns were also perfectly cooked but lacked any spices, i.e. 0 rosemary or additional flavours. So they were decent. The eggs though, perfectly cooked (soft) were completely tasteless with an almost translucent neon yellow colour for the yolk. Horrifically sad eggs with a perfect soft, runny yolk that had 0 flavour :( The egg makes the benny, everything else is icing on the cake. Icing can be great but means nothing if the cake is bad. If the eggs had been a somewhat decent quality and some rosemary added to the hash, it would of been perfect. My wife and I would become regulars. Based on this experience though, I will not be coming back :( read more

This is a great place to come out of the rain to. The breakfast is excellent and there is a Pokemon Go Gym you can battle over your meal. The staff is very friendly and hospitable. The only thing I did not like was the water glasses are too small. read more

The food is all homemade and amazing!, they have this oaten bread maid with oats and honey that comes with this strawberry rhubarb jam that is to die for and there eggs bennys are the best in town. Im so sad. Such a great spot, but I went there for their coffee. Used to be gourmet and now it is a big brand that you get everywhere else. You were unique because things were done to such a great level and now you have conformed. I'm sure this was done as a cost savings measure, but I don't like it. I've been going to Avalon for as long as it's been around: ten years or more. My tastes have changed over the years, but I still go occasionally, mainly because it never has a long lineup and the turnover is quick. The food is cheap, tasty, and consistent, but by no means of high quality. The eggs are not free range, the bacon is the thin and salty mass-produced kind, and the sausages are greasy and characterless. Even the bread, which is homemade, is underseasoned and often tastes of baking soda. Despite these criticisms, I've enjoyed my breakfast more often than not--probably because I don't go often enough for these flaws to sink in (to my stomach, I mean). But after an experience several days ago, I won't be back. It was a small thing--and I should have seen it coming--regarding the hollandaise sauce, which I've always thought one of the better parts of Avalon's eggs benedict. It's uniform, not too heavy, and has a pleasant and slightly eggy taste; not as lemony as I like, but a perfect fit for the food Avalon serves. So when I say I should have seen it coming, I mean that I should have guessed where it came from. I'm just surprised I've never seen the pour-spout tetra-pak labelled "HOLLANDAISE" in the open kitchen before. And that, my friends, is the end of that. read more

Our Server was a youthful gal who gave us plenty of attention and offered fantastic, descriptive serving selections with knowledge of actually stating flavors and textures... Cheap, no line-up, and super fast service! My sister and I decided to go here after the Bluefox lineup was too much for us and we're so happy we did! We were literally eating in ten minutes. I had the smoked salmon benny and fruit plate and my sister had the benny special with garlic sausage, peppers, and onions. They make they're own oat bread that they have for the eggs benny, omg it was so good. Our bill was less than $25, I can't believe how cheap it was. Their menus were a little rough-looking but the food was great so I'm not complaining. The crazy thing is there was only one table other than us in there. Avalon has a damned strong foundation in all three, but I'd say service is really the standout at this small breakfast and lunch place on Fort (just below Cook St..) We arrived at 10 am on a bustling Sunday morning, one of the three lovely waitstaff greeted us and asked if we could wait a few moments while a table of four paid their bill. It was only then that realized we hadn't checked the menu for our fussy children's requirements. Horror, no pancakes, no French toast. I apologized to one of the ladies and explained the sitch and we clear out. After a night out with some friends on a visit to Victoria we found Avalon because it was very close to our Airbnb. The food is tremendous, the server is so friendly and the ambiance is homey and casual. This place is the best for a casual brunch, and the quality of all their homemade offerings is impeccable. The homemade hot sauce is great, and we were actually able to buy some to take home. Also the homemade oat bread they serve as toast is AMAZING.
