Came for happy hour on a Tuesday mid-afternoon. Purchased beer on tap and a frozen mangonada. Both…read morewere good! Also got some chips & salsa, and some barbacoa and Mexicanos tacos; both tasted great and high quality. Sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air. Waitstaff was friendly, food came out instantly, and there wasn't anything really to complain about for a happy hour visit.

My cousin brought us here for drinks and dinner on our last night in Victoria. They share a…read morekitchen with Fuego which is a longtime favorite brunch spot of ours, so we knew we'd be in for a treat. They have an impressive tequila and mezcal list, and some really unique sounding cocktails. I went in with tequila/mezcal in mind, but when I saw the Bandera Martini (Condesa dry gin, Noilly prat, pico de gallo juice, buttermilk clarified) it was too intriguing not to try. While not entirely wowed, I didn't necessarily regret my choice. I wouldn't order it again, but it was interesting. I also tried sips of the Prickly Pear Ranch Water (a gorgeous hue but more of a zippy mouth bomb than I expected) and the Besito de Playa (very tropical, both in terms of taste and presentation). All three were very different from one another. Food-wise, they have a vegetarian option under each heading. I had the veggie quesadilla (mushrooms, peppers, corn, nopales, beans, carmelized onion, cheese, cilantro, chipotle crema, serrano-garlic, and avocado). It was very good. Ample portion (I brought home half for breakfast the next morning) and excellent flavors. My dining companions were happy with their food as well. I'd say that's where they shine -- the kitchen over the bar. I'll happily return on my next visit.

La Taquisa is an extremely well-priced, delicious Mexican spot! I was out on a day adventure with a…read moregood friend and saw La Taquisa across the street and simply made her come with me. I've been meaning to try it out for a while (especially after I read all the great reviews!) so walking by left me no choice but to head right in. First off, this spot has a really cool aesthetic inside. A large glass-front restaurant isn't uncommon for downtown Victoria by any means but the way that La Taquisa uses the light to highlight their bright furniture and playful colour scheme is both fun and visually pleasing. Plus, when a space looks nice, I swear the food tastes better! This time around, I went in and got 3 of the chicken tinga tacos with medium red salsa on them and it came out to less than ten dollars. When they take your order, they also get your name so that you can go take a seat and wait until they call you to come get your food. Overall, I thought that my tacos were extremely good with a taco-truck kind of feel about them. However, my friend got chicken molé with the mild verde salsa (and added guac and sour cream) and I preferred hers. Next time around I'll have to try either the baja fish tacos or burrito (since it seems to be a Yelper favourite) but all in all, I was really happy with this meal!

I ordered the 5 for $11.50 deal hoping to sample 5 different flavours. This included beef, fish, chicken and pork. I think the presentation of the tacos could have been much better and was hoping the taste would make up for this. Unfortunately I found the flavours rather bland and had a very difficult time attempting to figure out which taco was which. And two in our group had intestinal issues after the meal...one of them being myself. With such a competitive market for these types of Mexican establishments in Vancouver, I guess my expectations were perhaps a little high. The 5 for $11.50 deal was good value for okay Mexican food, but we have no plans to return.
