Came here for brunch or a Sunday visit. The place was bustling and the wait was a short 10 minutes for a table. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We really liked the colourful decor and the Spanish influence of their food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got their el porco Benny. The carmelized apples was an interesting sweet addition that was very different from Bennies from the past. I liked how yellow the hollandaise sauce was. The pulled pork was nice, but a bit smaller than I thought there would be. Their house made hot sauce is quite spicy so if you're a hot sauce lover you'll love it. They were delicious and I think mango was seasoned already as it tasted slightly different than fresh mango. The waitress recommended the chef's skillet, so we got that instead. It came with fresh avocado, beans, and quite a lot of mushed tortilla with cheese. I enjoyed it but I'm not a fan of the texture so much. The omelette was probably my favorite out of the three dishes. The cornbread that came with it was also interesting. I didn't pay much attention to it at first since I wasn't very big on cornbread, but the crispy sides were really nice, and I guess that's why people on reddit were in love with the cornbread here. The hash browns were basically fries/fried potatoes to me with some green onion and sour cream. My husband enjoyed it but I wasn't a big fan as it seems super filling. We managed to finish everything with the three of us. The service was good, and they also refilled my hot water once as well. Great chilaquiles (get it with the chorizo): crispy chips and great flavors. Probably not authentic Mexican but who cares if it tastes good! Fuego habanero sauce wasn't exactly fire but balAnced with bell pepper and carrots, a bit like Marie sharp's but milder. Didn't buy a bottle because I would go through it fast, but it lets you control the spice level as you like it. Veggie omelette was packed with a variety of vegetables. We'd tried to come to Fuego Old Town Eatery the day before but showed up when they were closing. Decided to come nice and early the following day. It's located next door to Cafe Mexico. We dropped in on a Sunday morning (around 9:00am) and the tables filled up quickly. There was a lineup out the door when we left. Service was top notch; staff continuously came by to see if you wanted coffee or water refills. The menu is split into all day breakfast, pancakes, eggs benedict, tacos and a couple Mexican entrees. The back page shows all of their vegan and gluten free options. Fun that they have their own hot sauce. - Coffee ($3.50) - strong. B ended up getting multiple refills. - Huevos divorciados ($14.50) - the salsa verde was the better of the two. Found the salsa roja very plain and simple. However, the two strips of bacon were perfectly cooked. - Enchiladas ($16.00) - beans had a smooth texture but it's quite the portion. Would have loved more guacamole. Chorizo was decent but the corn tortillas themselves were a bit dry. Flavourwise, the enchiladas left me wanting more; more sauce, more flavour. Adding their hot sauce helped. After about 15 minutes of waiting in front of the restaurant with benches outside, our party of 3 sat in one of the booths for brunch jut past 11a, and met our friendly server. I happily devoured the full size El Porco Benny with its delicious, savory pulled pork complimented with caramelized apples over potato patties along with perfectly poached eggs and yummy smoky hollandaise sauce. Husband and I came here for early lunch on a Saturday at 1130am. As many people already said, there's usually a wait and we were no different. But it was only 10-15 mins and the process was easy and organized. I got the breakfast burrito with chorizo, and husband got the Chilaquiles. They were both very tasty and we really enjoyed the food - hard to find good Mexican food in the PNW (we are both originally from SF where burrito culture is very serious ;) Service was delightful and friendly. Prices totally reasonable for the amount of quality food you get! This is only a nitpick: traditionally, chilaquiles includes chips that are smothered with chili sauce and then covered with beans, cheese, and meat. Fuego's version does not include chile sauce on their chips - they are plain (but covered with beans and cheese and meat). Not a big deal of course, but if you want chilaquiles set your expectations accordingly. Also: both of our dishes included chorizo - but the chorizo was more like ground pork as the traditional spices were either not present or minimal. It was still delicious, but again set your expectations. The inside of the restaurant was really cute - very clean, new-looking, and fun! Highly recommend coming here for lunch! read more

I came for a Saturday brunch with a friend around 10:45. There's no waiting list to write your name on, so you just have to wait in line. Luckily the wait wasn't too bad; we were seated around 11. They offer a wide selection of brunch dishes, including many Mexican style dishes. My friend went with the breakfast chimichanga ($14) and I got the fried chicken and corn bread ($17). I wasn't super impressed by my dish. The chicken was fried well and had a very crispy outer layer, but the chicken itself was quite dry and bland. The corn bread is served in waffle form, which I've never seen before. This was the highlight of the meal for both of us, but there was a tiny kick that I didn't think was necessary. My friend was pretty disappointed by his dish...the everything was pretty bland across the plate, from the chimichanga fillings to the rice to the beans, and didn't come with hash browns as mentioned on the menu. We asked the waittress about the hash browns after we got our food, and she said it wasn't included with this dish even though it's listed on the menu. read more

Favorite breakfast spot in town and has remained consistent over the years! Waitstaff is welcoming and attentive. Very cute inside, but they also have a few tables out back overlooking the square. Servings always take me by surprise appearing small but are actually dense and flavorful. Recommend the huevos divorciados (so simple, yet so good), the chilaquiles skillet (a personal favorite), and the cornbread french toast (with a hint of heat). Some of the component they put into the food might seem strange but super good. Sweet and savoury at the same time. We tried both rice skillet (amazing with their homemade hot sauce especially) and Benny and cake if you wanna try both out. Their eggs are very high quality, orange yolk the pancake is very fluffy. The first time I tried this restaurant was when it was on View street. It wasn't anything worth talking about. When I saw it at its new location Douglas street, right next to "The Russian Tailor" the smell of the place drew me in. My daughter and went in and I'm happy to say that it was very yummy! I was pleasantly surprised. We had pozole and my daughter had taquitos. The next time we went I had taquitos and my daughter had enchiladas. They were equally as tasty as the last time. I'm a Mexican immigrant who's mother was THE best cook of various surrounding neighbourhoods if not the city. She could cook like it was nobodies business. Everyone said that she could make something as plain as a fried egg taste better than anything they could cook. Beans were tastier I mean EVERYTHING that woman cooked was amazing. Although she did say that she couldn't cook potato purée. Well what self respecting Mexican eats that anyway! Lol Anyway my daughter and I had just come back from Mexico from burying my dear departed mother so I was really missing my mother, the woman and the cook! So when I found this place and that the food actually had an authentic smell AND the food was tasty?! Well I was overjoyed. The food was plentiful, rather reasonably priced and it was authentic AND delicious. I highly recommend this place. I have gone to almost all of the new places that claim all of the above but seriously lack either authenticity or flavour. I could name the other places but I don't think it would be in good taste when the review is on "La Fogata" Remember, just because a place is authentic does NOT a mean that the food tastes good. Cakes and benny alllll. the. way. You get a little bit of savory and a little bit of sweet. I always wanted to get specialty pancakes and an eggs benedict at the same time lol, not many restaurants can say they serve this as one meal..you're always forced to purchase something "on the side." My dreams came true at Fuego. I ordered the el porco benny - keep in mind, you get one benedict in the cakes and benny combo. That's all you really need. It doesn't look like much, but I couldn't even finish half of the pancakes. El porco in and of itself is a combination of sweet and savory. So perhaps, ordering the pancakes in addition to this was unnecessary. I'd try it with a different benedict if I ever find myself in Victoria again. The wait for this breakfast/brunch spot isn't as long as other restaurants in the area. Not sure why! It's pretty darn good. So you'll probably be seated in 20-25 minutes. Great brunch here on Sunday! No lineup and fast service. Interior of the restaurant is quite nice, a mexican themed decor and nice high ceilings. Coffee was excellent (I had a decaf americano, and added milk). Curious what kind of beans they use as they were really flavourful. I had the pancakes with pulled pork, apples, onion and blueberries. Awesome flavours although a little too wet (I think from the blueberries - maybe recently defrosted?). My friend had the breakfast burrito which he said was great. A lot of brunch places have the same boring old menus. I see the same few combinations of pancakes, waffles, eggs benny, some kind of meat, and maybe salads and booze, and while I can enjoy it, it's not exciting. But Fuego - Fuego actually has some fun and interesting stuff on the menu, and it's delicious to boot! I would absolutely come here for brunch again! I tried the horchata latte, because that's something I'd never seen before, and it's delicious, a really nice and unique flavour take on the typical latte. And for my meal... cornbread French toast! I've never seen that before, but it was great, with hearty portions, tasty toppings, nice crispy bacon on top, and a nice spread of jalapeño on the side. Fuego's in-house hot sauce is really good too, and went nicely with the savoury-sweet French toast. I got to sample some chilaquiles too, and they were excellent. Not only that, but it's a lovely location with great decor and really friendly staff, and located in a central spot too. MDH and I stopped in for brunch, having read many positive reviews. The interior immediately transported us to Mexico; it's tastefully done and there is a very cool vibe. The menu is original, with many unique choices. We both decided to have the El Porco Benny, with a side of cornbread. We were not disappointed. The food is absolutely delicious! In fact, I'm fairly sure I'm going to dream about El Porco in the future. And the cornbread - let's just say it's the BEST cornbread I've ever eaten. Our server, Frankie, did an amazing job. I was recently in Victoria because for work for 4 days and needed a place to get some good food early in the morning. Since most things in Victoria seem to open late and close early, I was glad to see that this place was open at 8AM and really close to the office. I liked this place so much that I actually ended up going there 3 out of the 4 mornings I was in town. During my three visits I got the breakfast burrito, the Spanish omelette, and the veggie omelette. I've added pictures of the Spanish and veggie omelettes. Every single meal I had here was the trifecta: delicious, real ingredients, and reasonably priced. It's not a bargain basement breakfast for sure, but I'm not a small guy and I left stuffed every single time. The burrito came with the pan fries and some fruit. Yum!. The omelettes both came with corn bread and refried beans. I've never thought of cornbread for breakfast, but it definitely worked for me and I love refried beans at any meal! I've given this place 5 stars so I really don't think I have any complaints at all. I went there between 8 and 8:30am each day so I can't speak to how busy it is during the rest of the day, but there was no wait for a seat and a minimal wait for food every time I was there. If you're in Victoria early morning this is a must for breakfast. Whenever I'm back in town I'll be sure to check it out. read more

Heads up for lovers of the savory-sweet combo: the El Porco Benny may be your dream come true. If you've ever eaten apply pie and thought, "This could really use some chipotle pulled pork and a poached egg..." this is the dish for you. My only caveat is that you may want to save it for your day off. I just had it for a weekday lunch; subsequently, I now am in dire need of a nap. My favourite breakfast dish has to be the Conquistador. It's a perfect combo of flavours and textures: smoky chorizo, tangy pickled onions, crisp and peppery arugula, spicy salsa, a potato pancake, and sunny-side-up egg. The fish tacos are a really satisfying but light lunch. Service is always friendly and fast, and the music is usually a great eclectic mix. read more
