Not worth your time or money. The tacos were poorly seasoned, and I was surprised to have found the meat quite bland... disappointing considering each taco was $4 and so small too. The tortillas were stale and almost sterile in taste. But the biggest atrocity? The "guacamole" that I paid extra for (both on a taco and on the side) that turned out to be a measly green paste. An injustice to the guacamole legacy, and quite gimmicky considering how much I was charged. It's saving grace: friendly staff. But no matter how friendly... bad food is bad food. First of all, three stars is generous. Depending on the staff you get, you either eating eating or you leaving hungry. Yesterday, a staff member with thicker eyebrows had made my meal and she made sure I was fed. The tacos were made generously, delicious and probably the best shrimp tacos I ever did have. Today it was quite the opposite. A different staff member with very soft facial features had made my meal. It was almost as if my shrimp taco was anemic, lacking in substance and structure. La Taquisa is a perfect grab-and-go Mexican spot located in strip mall just across the Bay St. bridge. It's a casual lunch spot with a couple metal tables and chairs outside, and window bar seating inside. My usual is the shrimp burrito, medium spicy, with guacamole and sour cream. I appreciate that they don't charge trillions for the add-ons like some places do for avo products, and your choice of meats are all the same price as well. If you have a hankering for shrimp however, I would call ahead to make sure they have some in stock, as I've been disappointed a few times expecting to satisfy my craving, only to find that they were out. The regular size burritos are $10, and though they are called "regular", they are MASSIVE! I have a pretty hefty appetite, but the "kids" size is usually more than enough for me, and you save $2 or so, and end up wasting less if you go for this size. The service is quick and the staff are friendly. The only complaint I have is that some of the burrito ingredients are hot, and the veggies are overly cold, which makes the burrito as a whole cold occasionally. read more

My fiancé and I booked with La Taquisa to provide their famous tacos for our wedding reception at HCP Gardens. We eat at their different locations regularly and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Scott was our main contact and did an impeccable job! On the day the servers were prompt, the food was hot, and delicious. All of our (40) guests raved all night (and still do to this day) about how good the food was. We've tried again and again to like La Taquisa. Especially given how close it is to where we live (and the other location is very close to the office), and that Victoria doesn't have a whole lot of Mexican food selections. Alas every time we give it a try, we end up disappointed (and often quite annoyed). The Good: fast prep, funky concept, and fun choices of meat varieties. The Not so Good: slightly overpriced for what you're getting, poor "extras" menu options (tortilla soup is okay there, but not great), food ALWAYS comes out cold, staff seem to care very little about preparation or presentation, and this particular location is always dirty (good luck finding a spot on the bench that doesn't have salsa or sour cream splattered). It's open until 8PM and it's an actual storefront. The menu is actually somewhat larger than that of the cart on Cook Street and they serve FISH TACOS! But for some reason, I don't find my mole to be as flavourful at this location as it is at the cart. Perhaps this is just my perception, as a wooden cart on an empty lot is more charming than a metal and red hued storefront located in a charmless shopping mall. No matter what, it's still delicious and a great addition to my side of the Johnson Street Bridge. read more

La Taquisa on Wilson street has, for the past few years, been my go-to place for Mexican food in Victoria. I have brought countless friends and family members, who were over for a visit, to the restaurant which I talked so highly about. However, in the past few weeks/months, there has been a change. New management? I'm not sure. But what I can tell you is that the end product has suffered. The burritos which were once large and filled to capacity are now limp and half empty. I can vividly remember my first few experiences of going to the restaurant and thinking to myself "WHOA! This thing is HUGE! It must weigh over 1 kilo?!?!''. No longer. Not even close! On top of that, all the products have gone up in price. So, customers are now charged extra for an inferior product. Why? Sure, they still taste great but the value is no longer there. I've been a few times since, each time hoping it was just a fluke or an employee having a bad day. Sadly, it wasn't. La Taquisa has changed and we will not be returning nor bringing any visiting friends and family in the future. What a shame. read more

I tried 5 of the about 10 taco types they offer and felt they were all somewhat lacking in taste. I think the shrimp taco might have been my favourite, and the fish taco my second. I was first introduced to La Taquisa about two years ago by a close friend and every since then it has been my go to for tacos in Victoria BC. the staff is super friendly and have a ultra family vibe. there is always a fun vibe when you walk in and they always create great food consistently. Another plus is that they have great Gluten Free selection. almost everything on the menu is Gluten Free and if it isn't it is marked clearly with a "G". I have lunch here from time to time and often leave happy and always leave full.I usually go for the burritos and the chicken mole and Baja shrimp are my go-to faves,the beef is also quite good but the chorizo doesn't do it for me,too salty and not to my liking. I live in Richmond, BC and was here for a vacation. We needed a place for dinner and so we hopped on yelp and liked the reviews and menu of this place. When we got there, we were not dissapointed. I had the 6 tacos deal and they filled me up nicely (and with a whole lot of kick I recommended the salsa verde it was amazing!). We also split a side of chips and guocamole which was a huge portion, my girlfriend had quesadillas and she also really enjoyed them. We had 2 jarritos (Mexican soda) and it was all under $25! I can't say enough good things about this place. The amount of "regular" customers we saw walk in who were all known by name shows that this place is a frequent stop for locals! read more

A favourite place to eat! The chicken tacos with the medium salsa are SO delicious and the tortillas have the best texture and taste. The tortilla soup is just like I remember down south, the medium size is pretty big too. But I get the soup to go now because I don't like eating out of the old chipped pottery bowl. I question how clean it actually can get with all the cracks and rough texture. Also it's been a struggle to find a clean spoon in the "clean spoon" tin, so I get plastic now. There is hardly ever any seating because it's pretty popular and has limited seats, but outside is nice if you can snag a table. One of my favourite places to eat! The beef and shrimp Gordo is like heaven in a tortilla. The way the flavours work together is incredible. The beef is so tender and the slight crunch of the breading in the Baja shrimp give it nice contrast. The tortilla soup with veggie or chicken rajas is a beauty as well. read more

Great beef tacos, small but tasty. Storefront is small but you're best to eat there, the shell gets a little soggy on the drive home. Salsa is eye-watering spicy when you get to the spicy verde. Mexican is my favourite cuisine hands down, and I am fairly lenient and will rate Mexican food really well even if most think it's sub-par (this is how much I enjoy the cuisine!) I actually love Mexican food so much that I brought 6 of my family members to this location to celebrate my graduation from university. Bad idea - I've never tried worse burritos in my life. Initially I was super excited when I unwrapped the burrito and realized just how massive it was! It definitely would have been more appealing if they offered the option of toasting the burrito, but alas we can't have it all. Unfortunately, The burritos were drenched in sauces and only edible using forks and knives. The protein didn't taste all that amazing... super salty to be frank. I never ever throw away food, especially so if it's Mexican food, but I couldn't bare to eat the full burrito. Taste-wise, it was the least bit satisfying. One of the pork burritos we ordered actually came without pork (when we brought it back up, the cashier looked into the burrito for about 5 seconds, then finally replied "I see a bit here actually." When my sister questioned if that was all the protein, the cashier actually turned around to ask her coworker if he'd actually put the pork in.) If you're looking for a solid burrito, I'd recommend opting for another restaurant. Thought I found a gem of a place based on the Yelp reviews, however myself and the rest of my 6 family members were all greatly disappointed. I remember my dad actually described it as "dog food." This is one of the best places for shrimp tacos! They are absolutely delicious. I like the chipotle mayo that comes with it on the corn soft taco shell. The crunch of the vegetables and the breaded shrimp makes my mouth water as I am writing this. I have to go again soon and experience this again. Staying in the area for work and saw this place had pretty good reviews. I had a beef burrito. I noticed upon ordering that they've had to make signs explaining why their prices have increased which I thought was a bit sad considering the prices seemed pretty reasonable. $12-ish dollars for a huge homemade burrito and a San pellegrino seems normal to me. They also have cheap tacos and deals on taco combos if you're more of a taco person. I highly recommend using the hot sauce they have on the counter. Delicious! read more

Great grab and go place...expect to wait a little bit when it gets busy. I usually order, head to the grocery store or liquor store next door and then come back and enjoy at home. I ordered the baked fish tacos which tasted dry,tough and bland, no salsa was added and there was a side of watery guacamole in thimble. My friend could not even finish her taco..
