Breaded shrimp and fries and a margarita

The Spurr Lounge - A Hidden Gem with Great Vibes As someone who loves discovering local spots, The Spurr Lounge gave exactly what I didn't know I needed! From the moment I walked in, the staff and regulars made me feel right at home. Super friendly, no-pressure vibes, and great service all around. I sat in the back -- there was a slight smell in that area, which I hope gets addressed soon -- but honestly, it didn't take away from the overall experience. The energy in the lounge was upbeat and welcoming, and the ambiance felt like a cozy mix between dive bar comfort and lounge charm. Now let's talk about that margarita! Absolutely delicious and well-balanced -- not too sweet, not too strong, just right. The presentation of both the drink and food was on point (photo attached!). Everything was fresh and flavorful. Parking was a breeze -- located right out front and easily accessible. Looking forward to coming back -- this is the kind of spot that quickly becomes your go-to. Cheers, Spurr Lounge!

Fans blowing the smell of the bathroom around

This place is cool, but the bathroom makes the whole place smell like piss it stinks and as soon as you walk in the bar it's just rotten with mildew and the smell of piss. The place and people are good, the smell just reeks.

My fave local neighborhood bar in our old neighborhood with the best bartenders in the world! Sammy and Tanya
    Ludmila F.

This neighborhood gem was our local watering hole when we lived in Laveen and we still visit hanging on to that "Cheers" bar feeling with our favorite bartender superstars Sammy and Tonya! Terry keeps this place evolving by putting in credit card options vs. the former cash only, remodeling the flooring without losing that old school charm. Ballin' on a budget $1.00 pudding shots made by Sammy and the crew, full bar, burgers, pizza, wings and one of the best patty melts I've ever had on the planet. Reg and I have to take credit for convincing them to start carrying Tito's back in 2014ish. lol. Don't come here for kale sprinkled with caviar foodie pictures and craft cocktails. Come to meet down to earth people of all backgrounds, grab a beer, order some wings and stay for the Karaoke on Fridays or play something on touch tunes. Ken and Barbie aren't going to walk in sporting the latest manolo blahnik pumps. If you're looking for hipster with glitter that's 15 min away downtown at a speakeasy. And I love those too! But if you want real, "it's a wonderful life bar" with strong drinks, worker bees and peeps that will be there for you at your best, worst, no make up, day you broke up with your boo or quit your job, this is the spot. It's my hole in the wall and I wouldn't change it for any amount of glam in the world. Keep rockin Spur lounge and coming up with new pudding shot flavors. Woot Woot! XOXO

But, if you're looking for a really cool bar, KWSC is for you. I stopped by on a week day evening around 8:30 p.m. Located in Roosevelt Row, while there isn't parking, I found free parking on the street a few minutes away on foot. Ambiance (4.5/5): My type of spot. Dimly lit with a speakeasy vibe. There are eight or so seats at the bar, and the rest of your seating options consist of comfortable chairs and sofas. You'll see a lot of photos of people's bums on the walls lol. This is indeed part of the appeal. For free, if you would like, they will take a polaroid of your butt and memorialize you eternally on the walls. While I didn't do that, if that's up your alley, go for it. Service (2/5): This is the main area of improvement. After being seated, I was greeted promptly and got my first cocktail promptly. From there, things fell apart. I had to grab the bartender's attention to order my second drink and to close out. It was a week day and they weren't busy. And there were two bartenders. A lack of attentiveness. When I closed out, I noticed that the cocktails were both $2 more expensive than what was listed on the menu. When I inquired, I was told that the menus were outdated... umm what? If you're not going to re-print your menus, give people a heads-up when they arrive. I understand that most people won't notice, but this is deception. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet. If you're trying to eat here, all they have is snacks. The menu doesn't specify but I'm thinking it's probably chips or somethign like that. Drinks (4/5): A lengthy, and interesting, cocktail list. Similar to a speakeasy, you're going to see creativity and an interesting blend of flavors here. The most popular drink is Fuck Nazis. We're seeing a theme here. KWSC is an interesting spot. For various dollar amounts, you can get funny things outside of the polaroids of your bum. My first cocktail was great. My second one, a tiki drink, not so much. The menu said that there would be some flame action happening. It didn't. Just another example of the service falling short. If the service were better, Killer Whale Sex Club would easily be a five-star experience.

The atmosphere was unique, the bartenders were genuinely engaging, and there was a real sense of community that made every visit memorable. It became my go-to spot to bring friends from out of town and every single person I brought absolutely loved it! Back then, the cocktails felt intentional and creative, not just rushed out for volume. The staff remembered regulars, conversations flowed naturally, and the whole place had this warm, eclectic energy that made you want to stay for hours. Even on busy nights, it somehow still felt personal. Unfortunately, over the last couple of years, the vibe has changed quite a bit. The drinks just aren't as consistently good as they used to be, especially considering the prices now. Service feels far more transactional and impersonal, and the atmosphere that once made this place stand out has faded into something much more generic. It feels less like a neighborhood gem and more like a stop on a nightlife circuit.

It is a large dive…read morecountry style dive bar with two pool tables, good bar food, and sell mini snd regular pitchers of beer. They have a touch tunes juke box, live bands on Saturday I believe, karaoke on Sundays and Tuesdays at last check, and a dance floor whenever you want to dance even by yourself. They also have a patio for smoking. Drinks and food are reasonably prices especially for beer and they do have a hard seltzer and cider offering but it is limited. Being in South Phoenix they do have a dress code but mainly for cuts and colors, however I did have to change my baywatch short once because no tank tops. Swim trunks and slides were fine so go figure. They do have a bouncer that pats you down after a certain hour and they are pretty cool. One even gave me a jersey from his car to cover my tank top, but we are familiar with each other and joke around alot so dont expect that service. Wings are great and fried food as well, I cant remember what else I ate when inebriated but good kitchen. There is a good community feel there and a lot of regulars but you also run into a lot of new peeps all the time. They use a quarter system to set your place in line at the pool table and if I remember correctly its $1 for a game, but keep winning and you dont pay, but they do have some good players so dont expect it. The Karaoke DJ Michael is great and finds songs for us but be sure to tip your Dj. I think they start at 7pm, but im sure its dependent on availability. I went once for live music and I think it was Mexican/Country music but dont quote me on it, I was drinking a couple pitchers of Mich Ultra. The pool tournament started late and once fun but if I remember correctly it was bank 8 and maybe ball in hand but that was a long tome ago and I cant remember. Thd late start was on a school night and the next morning was rough so that was a bummer despite getting pretty far in a double elimination tourney. Overall its a great place to visit. Only cons is that the bartender cuts my juke boxsongs when its slayer or other loud metal bands or turns the volume down when I want it loud. Otherwise its a great place where you can expect a lot of 90s or later hip hop and R&B as well as Country music. Its always fun to see if you can get a whole slayer song through but do it at your own expense. Bathrooms are basic but for 99% of the time clean and it can get busy Friday to Sunday

First impression, it's unapologetically a dive. Dark, a little worn in, and not trying to impress anyone. Give it about five minutes though and it starts to click. The kind of place where people actually talk to each other, bartenders keep things moving, and nobody's putting on a show. Drinks came quick and strong, which is really all I'm asking for in a spot like this. Prices were more than reasonable too. You're not getting anything fancy, but that's not why you're here. There was a mix of stuff going on while I was there. Music, people bouncing between the bar and the pool tables, a few regulars who clearly treat the place like their second living room. It had energy without feeling chaotic, which is a tough balance and they mostly pull it off. Only reason I'm landing at four stars instead of five is because it's definitely not for everyone. It leans hard into that dive bar identity, and depending on the night, it can feel a little rough around the edges. Service was solid, but you can tell it probably swings with the crowd. That said, if you're in the right mood and not looking for anything polished, it's a good time. I'd go back without overthinking it.

What an unexpectedly fun night!…read more I honestly had no idea what I was walking into when a friend told me I had to check out Bikini Lounge because they know I'm drawn to all things eclectic. They were absolutely right. From the moment the friendly bouncer smiled and said, "Step right on in," I was hooked. Yoooow!! The first DJ was incredible. He was spinning all kinds of trip-hop, indie, electronic, and remix-style tracks that had everybody partyin'. It wasn't your typical dance music, but every song seemed to connect with somebody in the room. The crowd was incredibly diverse, and it was so much fun watching people of every age and style dancing and nobody cared. The second DJ, a younger woman, shifted the vibe a bit and leaned more toward a younger crowd. It wasn't quite my style, so I took that opportunity to grab a seat at the bar and do what I apparently do best... chat with complete strangers. I'm a talker, and thankfully they seemed just as happy to strike up a conversation. This isn't some fancy cocktail lounge, and that's exactly the point. It's authentic. There were people dancing at the bar, grooving in their booths, bouncing in their seats, and filling the dance floor with great energy. I came by myself, and within minutes a cool group of strangers invited me to squeeze into their booth like we'd all come together. That's the kind of place this is. At one point they even offered me a glass of beer from their pitcher. I politely declined (look at me making responsible life choices... sometimes), but then I realized almost everyone had pitchers! So I sauntered over to the bar. I did have to wait a bit; apparently chivalry doesn't extend to letting a woman cut the line, but once I reached the bartender, the service was fast and friendly. Every trip back to the bar was the same. No complaints there. As the night went on, the energy just kept building. Before I knew it, I was on the dance floor sweating, smiling, and dancing with complete strangers. After a while, I had to retreat to the patio just to catch my breath before heading back in for more. My ankles are still sore... and the glutes? Fuhgetabouttit! The best part of the night wasn't the music or even the drinks. It was the people. Every generation was represented. Every fashion style imaginable. Every personality. And somehow it all worked. There was this genuine sense of joy and community that you just don't find everywhere. If you're looking for polished and upscale, this probably isn't your spot. But if you want great music, a welcoming crowd, zero pretension, and one of those nights where you leave happier than you arrived... give Bikini Lounge a shot. I went in not knowing what to expect. I left wondering why I'd waited so long to go.

I understand it was busy, and I'm not upset about the line. What I didn't love was being told by the host to step aside when I got to the front so that she could check on my order, and then watching her help everyone else in line and forget about me entirely. If you're going to park a takeout customer to the side, you have to come back to them. Around 6:40pm, I flagged down a waitress who was kind and actually looked into it for me. I got my order from her at 6:48pm. They need to fix how takeout orders get handed off to guests. Pickup shouldn't run through the same single host managing a long dine-in line, or if it does, someone has to own circling back. And the food didn't make up for it. The tuna was fishy. I ended up drowning it in soy sauce just to get through it, which is not what you want to be doing with raw fish. When poke is the whole point of the dish, the fish has to be fresh, and this wasn't. The restaurant had a nice moodiness to it with tons of Japanese letters / decor. Other than the ambiance being nice, my experience was not great.
