First I'd like to acknowledge how he helped to clean Oak Park up I believe he really did try to give us the Black Wall Street feel. Back to the food. I've been getting that smothered chicken meal since forever. It's literally my favorite. I have a gumbo. My grandmother was from Louisiana and I ain't had none like hers since she died. So maybe my review on the gumbo isn't as fair but i don't like it. I didn't say it wasn't good. I just don't like it. The oxtails are okay. The shrimp and grits are good. The catfish nuggets and deviled eggs are good. I'm sure the Kool-Aid is illegal. Mix the red and the blue. If you'd like to hire me as a guide, hit my DMs. My prices are food. You heard me.

If you can get…read morehere without a car, or have someone possibly keep driving around the block until you pick up your food, would be the play. The parking is a premium with them sharing a lot with other businesses. If you do decide to eat here, it's a small place, two tables at most. With all that our of the way, even on my first visit to this restaurant, the gentleman behind the counter treated me like I was a regular. That made a huge impression on me. No nonsense at all. I had to order the oxtail because I saw good meaty (thick) they were compared to a lot of places I've had oxtail from. The sides I chose were corn and Greenpeace. They were generous with the portions and I was grinning from ear to ear. I had to tell the gentleman behind the counter how I appreciate that his oxtail axial had a nice amount of meat and not mostly bone. He told me he butchers it himself and makes sure his customers are treated right. Just writing this made my mouth water and I really should make another trip back.

L.A. had a reputation years ago for rude waitresses in Soul Food Restaurants and I think "In Living Color" did a skit on it. Tammy eliminates that bad rap. The oxtails were enough for two people. The food, especially the yams, collard greens and dressing have that legendary "Mississippi Mary" flavor from Crenshaw back in the day. If you know, you know. That lunch special she had back then saved my life many a day. Sweet Tea? Mph, mph, mph!

Very disappointing to say the least. Never really had complaints about the food so I decided it…read morewould be a good idea to order the catering trays for a get together I was having. The first red flag was when I cane to pick up my pre-paid order I had scheduled for a 1pm pickup. It was not ready and I was told to wait. At 1:30pm I was still waiting and I complained that I ordered and paid days ago, and that this was making me late for my get together. They told me that it was coming out and preceded to hand me a tray to take back to my car one by one. I was in a rush and only verified that all food was accounted for. I should have verified the food was actually cooked! Both the mac n cheese and yams trays were horrible! The mac n cheese was just cheese sauce on macaroni and not baked. The yams were dry and tough as they were not candied at all! My guests barely touched it. Maybe the dinners are still okay but I definitely don't recommend their catering trays. I'll go support another soul food place.

They do have a parking lot, but it is small and can get full so when we arrived it was full. We did find street parking though. They have one side where you can order to go and pick it up, and then the right side will be where you enter and get the seating. There are two seating rooms and a good amount of seats. Not a ton, but still pretty good. They have one restroom that is pretty big and also clean. The menu is pretty straightforward. There's only two pages. They look the same but one side is gonna have a lunch and dinner special. The other side is gonna have a Sunday special. You can only pick from the plates, and you can add additional sides à la carte, but for the main entrées, you cannot add them additionally. So for instance, my man got the oxtail dinner plate. Which comes with three sides, which are actually very generous. Honestly, I figured that would've fed us both which it could have. But I wanted the fried fish, but there is no option to add that separately. You would have to just get another plate of it. So for the first plate, we got the oxtail. That came over a bed of white rice, which we didn't know. It was very good very filling. We also got a side of mashed potatoes with gravy, which was so good nice and creamy. Then we also got the sweet potatoes and that was delicious. Reminded me exactly of Thanksgiving. And we also got the mac & cheese, which I don't normally like mac & cheese but there's looked good. I wanted to give it a try and it was good. Very cheesy. Then for mine I got the fried catfish plate. You have the option of getting fried or steamed I think. And you have the option of catfish or swai fish. For my sides, I got the corn, okra, tomato. That was very good. Then I also got the red beans over rice. Which was so good. I've never had red beans over rice except for at Popeyes and this was like a 10 out of 10. Then we also got the collard greens which that's the only item I was not a fan of. I probably give that one a one or two out of 10. It was just very bitter for me. Our friends also got their own plate, my friend he got the steamed fish and he said it was really good. They also got a side of cabbage which I also wanted to get. They said that was really good so I should've gotten that. The sweet tea was good. It did have a hint of lemon on it if you did like lemon sweet tea. Overall, for the price point, this was really good and big. I can't believe you get three sides. I definitely feel like one box can feed about two people. Wait time wasn't too long and the servers were really nice. I do like that. The food comes in to go containers already because we had leftovers and that way we did not have to ask for to go box. I would definitely come back whenever I'm in the area again.

I ordered 2 dinners short ribs the Sunday special & a vegetable plate at 12:21 my number was 908 they started to call numbers that were higher than minds so I went back over to ask the window where orders are taken the young lady said they forgot to put my ticket in, I asked since they forgot could I get piece of chicken for the inconvenience she asked the manager who had went to help the kitchen and she said no. At 1:21 1 hr later I got my food, and to my disappointment when I got home the food was not good the yams i don't even have words for, the greens no seasoning and a lil under cooked, the succotash the okra not cooked well again no seasoning and a lot of end pieces, the black eyed peas no seasoning very bland, the cornbread was very thick. So sad the state this restaurant is in, they need to revamp too much going on door dash orders, online orders, dine in and orders at the window. So with that said this will be my last time going back to this restaurant.
