I had heard great things about this spot, but wasn't sure what to expect since it's a bit off the beaten path for me. Upon entering, the staff greeted me warmly and made me feel right at home. I was asked if I wanted to take my food to go or eat in, and I chose to eat inside, although most customers seem to order takeout. This restaurant is a labor of love; you can tell they pour their heart and soul into the dishes. I asked about popular items and was told both the chicken and ox tail were well-loved, with a personal preference for the chicken. I decided to try the ox tail, as it's not something I usually order. The Ox Tail Plate ($26) features five tender pieces of oxtail, served with rice and beans, potato salad, and plantains. The small side of potato salad was even better than I expected; it has a sweet flavor with bell peppers for a nice crunch, and it was one of the best I've ever had. The plantains were also nicely moist. Overall, it was a very satisfying lunch. I would definitely order the oxtail again, but I'm also curious to try the chicken plate next time. This is one of those places that if you know, you know. The owner mentioned they've been around since 1983 and don't advertise or use social media. It's all word-of-mouth, and you can tell they don't need it because business is thriving. I initially anticipated paying between $20-$23, so I was surprised to see the final price was $28. While it's on the pricier side, the cost includes tax, and there's no expectation of tipping, as there's no option on the payment tablet. It's still a bit expensive, but I understand labor costs are likely factored in. I truly believe you get what you pay for, and sometimes paying a bit more means better quality. This isn't an everyday splurge, but it's absolutely worth it as a treat! You absolutely have to try this place! You won't be disappointed. We're lucky to live in a city with such great options, but where else can you get authentic, home-cooked Belizean comfort food? Come here for the taste of Belize! read more

Powder bun had the consistency of a Popeyes biscuit dry and tasteless. You will need some water to wash it down that is for sure. This restaurant has the best Jamaican food in Lo Angeles. Large portions and seasoned to perfection.

I come here almost every week because my parents can't get enough of the oxtail. The portions go crazy and the price can't be beat. Everyone is always so nice and friendly and it gives it a family feel. The only reason I knocked off one star is because once I got the chicken and it made me violently sick. This is a hidden gem. The man who took our order said they've been there for years but this was my first time trying it. The service was great, good music, good vibes overall. The food was filling. I believe it was $19 for the plate we got. My friend and I shared it and couldn't finish it so you know you're getting your moneys worth for the portion size. Great sides, good chicken, and the bread with jam was also good. They even gave us two items on the side to try on the house but I can't remember the names of the items. I'd 100% return. This place is oh so good Belizean food, and some of the best Caribbean food in LA! The rice and peas are so flavorful, and the potato salad is a nice side. The brown stew chicken and oxtails are my favorites here. There is plenty of seating but most people take the food to go. There is a little wait to get the food so I'd recommend calling ahead! read more

Everything was amazing! My first time trying this type of food, its right up there with my fave now (Jamaican). That homemade (i believe) hotsauce is soooooo good. Not your typical hotsauce, its got a hint of maybe, mango? I dont like sweet/hot sauce but this was done beautifully as the hear was still the star of rhe show. Do they sell this btw? The price was about $16 which is cheaper compared to other restaurants that sell oxtail. Kind and personal service. Small restaurant and seating available but most people just took their food to go. I should've written this sooner. I had Tracey's for the first time about two months ago and it was very delicious. I had the stewed chicken with the rice and peas and potato salad. Now, Joan and Sisters is right down the street so let me say how they compare. Chicken itself, I will give to Joan and Sisters. Peas and rice and potato salad goes to Tracey's. Tracey's has far nicer customer service. Staff is friendly and they treat you like you like a long lost friends...but they don't take phone orders. Bummer. Joan and Sisters does take phone orders BUT your order still may not be ready when you get there even if you walk in at the estimated time. Joan and Sisters is far more generous with the onion sauce which takes the meal over the top. Tracey's was quite stingy with it. I ordered four meals and they gave me ONE SINGLE FOIL PACKET of the onion. Parking sucks at both locations! read more

I am a first time customer who drove from Long Beach because the restaurant was HIGHLY recommended by a Belizan woman who works in Long Beach but lives in L.A. and is a regular customer. I have had Belizan friends for over 30 years; consequently, I am very familiar with food they cooked and with restaurants currently in business as well as some now closed. In sum, the food is delicious, portions are large, prices are reasonable and the person who took order was friendly. The drive was approximately 30 minutes, parking was not convenient and the restrooms were being repaired. The tasty food, reasonable prices and pleasant employee made the inconveniences minor. Friendly, authentic and a flavorful meal. We ordered 2 oxtail platters and 2 stew chicken platters. The potato salad is delicious!! Definitely my favorite item! I wish the plantains were cooked a bit more. They offer beer, sodas, and an assortment of Caribbean drinks! Pharaoh and Mike are the brothers that offer customers that awesome service. Tracy and Rocks are the ones that deliver the taste!!! Food is addicting. I love the fact that an ATM is provided inside although they accept credit card and debit forms of payment. Tracey's is on Western just south of Exposition is a nondescript joint with a knack for creating delicious Belizean cuisine. Everyone is really friendly and eager to explain the food here. Unfortunately, the dining room isn't open yet, and the aromas on the drive home make you want to pull over and dive in. Stew Chicken: The dark meat chicken is slowly cooked in a brown stew of spices, including annatto seed, allspice, cinnamon, and clove. The spices provide a deep peppery flavor. A Creole meal isn't complete without beans, rice, and potato salad. The stew beans are cooked until the big red kidney beans have an almost mashed consistency and are a bit peppery. The white rice is a bit al dente, which is a nice textural contrast to the soft beans. The potato salad is packed with flavor consisting of baby potatoes, carrots, vinegar, mayo, and black pepper. There are also a couple of plantains. The extra stew gravy overflows into the beans and rice, boosting flavor wherever it flows. Parking: You need to turn off the main streets and park in the neighborhood. Dining Area: The tables are currently closed off, but I was told that they may reopen this weekend. read more

The last time I had Belizean food was in Belize 5 years ago - so I've been trying to find a restaurant with a similar flavor since. My friend and I decided to give this place a try and what a wonderful surprise! We got the stewed oxtail and beef. Oxtail was perfect, so tender and flavorful. I think the beef was a bit rougher for my liking but flavors were still good. I will say this place has one of the BEST potato salads on the market. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I'd recommend taking to-go, as it can get a bit hot/stuffy if you're eating in store during the warmer months. Will definitely be back!
