I've been going to The Spice & Tea Shoppe for years, even before the rebrand, and it's still one of the most comforting little stores in Reno. It's the kind of place where you walk in "just to look" and somehow end up spending forever wandering through shelves of teas, spices, olive oils, and vinegars because there's always something new to smell or discover. The whole shop just has such a cozy, welcoming vibe. My absolute favorite is their Maui Wowie tea, especially iced in the summer. It's honestly become part of my routine whenever I'm on that side of town. If I'm heading over to Trader Joe's, there's a very good chance I'm stopping here first for an iced tea before I shop. Their chai selection is also incredible. Everything tastes high quality without feeling pretentious. Beyond tea, they have such a great variety of spices, infused olive oils, and vinegars. The oils and vinegars are especially dangerous if you love good bread and dipping plates because you'll immediately want to buy five of them. The staff has always been kind and helpful without hovering, answering any questions I had, and you can tell they genuinely care about the shop and the products they carry. read more

Update time! Great location. Store is loaded with products. The quality is top notch. Organic and USDA certified. The owners have spent years working on perfecting their offerings and it shows. Spices and spice blends. They are all available in a variety of sizes and packagings. Most of them have a tester available so you can taste what you are getting. Teas... my favorite side of the store. They have all the traditional styles along with their unique combinations. Not only do they offer a tester so you can smell the flavors....but most of those flavors are available at the back bar to have made for you to enjoy while shopping or to go !!! I love this place! It's clean, it's organized, the employees have always answered my questions confidently and the teas are top notch. My very favorite tea from the Spice & Tea Shoppe is the Darjeeling (they sell both first flush and second flush --which is a bit more bold). Per the employees it's "the champagne of tea" and I couldn't agree more! Even if black tea isn't your go-to, I recommend giving it a try at least once. They also have nice gift sets for sale, especially around the winter holidays. Oh, and you can even buy a cup of tea made in the store! read more

I haven't set foot in here for years, but I'm glad I did over the weekend. I was greeted upon arrival and asked if they had any blends that might help me with sleep. I forgot how awesome this shop is. I credit my friend Joe for bringing me here years ago for blooming teas. It was our thing for awhile, but unfortunately they no longer carry these. Service was great and if I had a little more time to spare I would have ordered a cup of tea from their tea bar inside; I love that this is an option here. I sampled a sauce that I was hoping had a little more kick. I'm happy to report that the blend I was recommended is helping me relax and unwind at the end of my day. I was pleasantly overwhelmed with the sauces and rubs they offer and I don't know how I forgot about the spices. With BBQ weather around the corner, I can't wait to come back so I can try a few rubs for my ribs and tri tip. I look forward to my next visit and allowing me a little more time that I'm able to slow down and grab some tea here. I received a gift card to this lovely shop...put it away and forgot to use it! Two years later, while organizing my sock drawer (the junk drawer of the bedroom) I came upon the card. I was a little concerned it might have expired or wouldn't be honored but no problem. I've been several times now, eventually used up the gift card, but I happy to spend my own money there! Cooking is kinda my hobby these days. Stir fry is my fall back. Some nights I put dinner on the table with a "Chopped" presentation...dinner from someone who didn't want to drive anywhere and used what was on hand. We record several cooking shows to watch on our own schedule...so having the correct spice (or kitchen implement) is important to me! I'm fermenting my own kim chee, using the blend from TS&TS. I've got 4 or 5 different peppercorns, planning on trying the schezwan peppercorns tonight. I got a Central Asia cookbook for my birthday and of course needed a spice (sumac) and of course TS&TS had what I was looking for. Best purchase the olive oil infused with Myers Lemon..that with a touch of honey and a good vinegar...perfect on field greens salad. The store is charming, well organized and it's neat and clean. Staff (usually the owners) are helpful but not intrusive. The location, near Trader Joe's #1 is great, tho learning the open/closed schedule took me a time or two. I am addicted. As a tea lover with a passion for cooking, I found my home. The spice offering has everything you can think of (blends, variety of salts, hard-to-find spices). I've tried a couple teas (Egyptian chamomile is my favorite) and they have been consistently top quality. The staff is more than happy to assist even if you are unsure of what you are looking for. They have a large variety of loose leaf teas, perfect for drinks. They also have different types of tea pots ceramic and even cast iron! I've gotten many gifts for friends and family from their teas to tea pots even glass bottle infusers, and gift cards! I absolutely love this place. They have the greatest spice, herb at tea collection. And they make them all in house. I go there to get my husband's Bloody Mary spice mix and always end up leaving with way more than I thought I would. Different kinds of salt, including smoked salts, yumm. Salty Savory Sweet is singlehandedly to blame for my overflowing and delicious spice collection. They are a scheduled stop every time I visit Reno from the Bay Area. I make my list to stock up on my usuals and then find three other things to try. Their selection of everything is amazing. A great little spice and tea shop in the same shopping plaza as Trader Joes. Parking is plenty and the selection of loose leaf teas they have is great. We didn't spend too much time in there but I would definitely go back and poke around some more. We bought two seasonal winter teas. One black tea and one white tea. Have since tried both and they are delicious and good quality. They smell great and are perfect with a few tea cookies. I didn't look at the spice section much but they seemed to have a large selection of both spices and teas. If you don't think making a trip there (for tea or spices) is worth it, (but it is), then swing in before doing some shopping at TJ's! read more

Having been a regular customer since their original shop on California, I'm thrilled Brent and Lindy continue offering high-quality, original spices you can't get anywhere else in town. Like many others, I love the smell of the shop and talking to the people who work there. Everyone is polite and knowledgeable and kind. After having emergency double back surgery at the end of May, this was my first official outing by myself. I stopped in to grab the necessities that I had run through during my recovery. Ginger Peach Tea was at the top of the list. Due to my not being out in the world for a hot minute I was a bit overwhelmed when I walked in the store, thank goodness for the wonderful girl at the counter who was kind enough to point me in the right direction and help me all the way through my trip there. I have always been a heavy tea drinker, but recently caffeine has started to give me issues if I drink it in the evening. She suggested a few low caffeine and no caffeine options for me which have been a god send. I still get my tea fix and won't be up all night! Last but not least, it is right by the cash register... pick up some white truffle salt. You will be shocked by what you have been missing. We use it on our steaks and baked or mashed potatoes mostly in this house. But I also, slightly by accident, have learned that it is amazing on popcorn. A little does go a long way and it is very fine, so be careful! Sorry no pictures, I will take some when I stop in this weekend. read more

Trust the nose! During my Reno trip, I stumbled into Salty-Savory-Sweet Spices and Teas by chance. With my first step into this quaint family owned shop, I was hypnotized with the fragrance of spices and teas. Wall to wall jars filled with every kind of spice, mixes and teas with the majority of it made at their shop. The owners, Lindy and Brent were so helpful and friendly. Since I've been practicing my grilling skills at home, I knew finding some dry rubs would enhance the flavors of my meals. I could have bought half of the store but decided on these mixtures: Kansas City BBQ Smoked Peppercorn and Sage Rub Aglio Olio E Pepperoncino Rosemary Garlic Rub French Lavender These mixture could be purchased by pre-made jars or weighed by the ounce. Since I didn't want to purchase too much, I had her package a few ounces in the baggies to enjoy at home and gave away as gifts. I love this shop! If you like to cook and haven't stopped in, this is a must. It is packed with all kinds of whole and ground spices. They have a variety of blends. All of their spices are fresh! I stopped in recently to pick up some middle eastern peppers that are not easy to find in your typical grocery store. I also got some awesome peppercorns that will blow your black pepper out of the water. Please get your herbs and spices here. They also have a great variety of salts that are not always easy to come by in your grocery store and you know they will be of the highest quality and freshness. If there is something that they don't have they are very happy to accommodate you and order it. Let me talk about their teas. I am a big tea snob. There are places in town that don't have very good blends and tend to lean more towards bitter when you brew them. This place blew me out of the water with their tea. I wanted something nice to have hot so I picked a nice oolong. I also got a few teas to make iced because it is way too hot for hot tea right now. I am currently drinking their Southern Ginger Peach Black tea on ice right now. It smells amazing and it has a nice balance of the ginger and peach. I tried the herbal Strawberry Kiwi on ice yesterday. It was wonderful! It had a beautiful pink tinge and the strawberry was very flavorful. You get a lovely zing of the kiwi in it too. They also offer olive oils, cocoa, and tea accessories. You can also order anything you need online. read more

I have been ordering from this awesome tea and spice shop during the pandemic and they have such a great covid-friendly system set up! Ordering online is super easy and all orders are pickup curbside only, anytime between their store hours Tues-Sat. Just so convenient! I also really love their packaging. They have some really great loose leaf teas, I have tried several and my favorite so far is Sweet Almond. It's so delicious and comforting. They also sell spices and oils and vinegars. On a recent order I purchased the bacon olive oil and tomato basil balsamic vinegar. Ok wow these are amazing!! I have been putting the bacon oil on hard boiled eggs for breakfast, I think it's genius. The tomato basil is perfect on breads, soups, and salads! I am so glad we have this local tea shop in town and highly recommend to anyone looking to purchase teas, spices, oils, etc. they also make some great gift packages! I love that there's a small tester by each tea mix so you can smell the tea leaves before buying. This honestly reminds me of Teavana but without the artificial flavors that go in their tea mixes. I really should have written this back in August!! If you are looking for loose leaf tea, this is the place to go! They have sooo many to choose from that it is a very difficult decision to make. The young lady that at the beginning seemed very knowledgeable about the teas and a delight to chat with. I decided to have an ice tea at their tea bar and was hooked. While I only purchased two flavors that day, I already had another flavor that my daughter had given me. They do do mail orders!! The spice selection is amazing! So after sipping a latte next door at Old World Coffee I ventured in to see if they had anything to add to my collection. Salty-Savory-Sweet has quite the collection of spices and teas. It's a good thing I had a time limit or I would have spent my entire morning in here trying everything. They've got the basics in bulk to stock up on too, but my attention drifted towards the harder to find spices on my list: Za'atar, Ras El Hanout, and ground Sumac. I also picked up a fantastic fine grain Sicilian Sea Salt that I now prefer. The owners are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They even have low cost flate-rate shipping for the out of towners. This store is small, but mighty, with floor to ceiling shelves lined with everything imaginable. Yes. They have salt and pepper... but you'll have to chose from the extensive selection of each offered here! Not to worry. If you don't know your fleur de sel from your Maldon or your Kosher, you will after Lindy and Brent tell you about each one, where they're from, and how to use em! They also stock a number of specialty spice blends too, and they're constantly expanding and changing this lineup too! I've enjoyed their NW Salmon Rub, Vindaloo Curry, and their Jamaican Jerk blends, all of which are incredibly flavorful and delicious. Best part is they even have recipe cards that give you amazing ways to use all these! Need something obscure? It's probably there and if not, they'll see if they can get it for you! Not sure what you need for that special dish or want to know more about the flavors of a certain cuisine, hanging out here will give you a lot of knowledge and inspire you to explore! Awesome place. THE only place I'm buying spices from now on They had everything I asked for. And it was great to buy by the ounce, so you don't have an over abundance of spices going bad in you cupboard any more. The store is well organized and labeled. And in case you're staring right at it, the staff is great at helping you what you looking for. Testers are available to check the aroma and taste. I'm thrilled that they carry some of the hard to find and unique spices and herbs that I used to have to special mail order. The owners were manning the shop the day I was in. I was impressed with their knowledge of their inventory- where it comes from, the best places that supply it and the regulations that govern the growth and harvesting of the products around the world. Perfect place for someone like me. I am afraid "average home cook" is benchmark I hope to attain. I went in with my list of spices and herbs for my contribution to the Reno Cookbook Club (Haricots Verts A La Provencal from the classic Mastering the Art of French Cooking). I had walked by the shop a number of times on way to somewhere else and have always wanted to stop in. My husband (who is an above average home cook) and I entered the lovely little shop and were hit by the tantalizing aroma of spices and herbs and hints of far away exotic locales. All of their items are arranged alphabetically by type - Teas, Spices & Herbs, Sugars, Salts, Peppers and Blends. I picked the jars of spices that I needed and Lindy helped walk me through the process while Brent weighed and measured my purchases. No, I could not buy just one bay leaf and just a teaspoon of Thyme, but I could get 0.5 ounce which was doable, Great bargain. Instead of buying a jar of God-knows-how-old-this-is spice at the grocery for $4 - $5, I can buy very fresh, high quality product for a fraction of the cost. They also had little cloth pouches for the "herb bouquet" that can be washed and reused a gazillion times. Oh steady my heart. Am I actually going to get to the point that I see a USE for "herb bouquet"? Apparently so. I am looking forward to coming back and sampling some of their teas and maybe trying a few of the exotic salts (the pink ones look intriguing) and maybe some of the flavored sugars. I stopped in this cute store after leaving Trader Joe's. I was looking for a green tea (I don't like green tea but was told it's good for my health). I was so delighted that there was someone there with immense knowledge- and she just happened to be the owner, Lindy! She was so kind and patient with all my questions- and I learned SO MUCH. I did find a green tea that I like, but she let me know that all tea has great health benefits, and I should just drink tea I like! On her suggestions I bought a Moroccan Mint tea, and their Scottish Breakfast tea called Brave Heart. I love them and will be coming back in to see Lindy for more recommendations! read more
